CrimeRe: Guns, Cash Recovered As Gunmen Abandon Their Vehicle After Accident In Anambra by COMPAQ(m): 10:07am On Dec 18, 2025
IzunnaOkafor:
By Izunna Okafor, Awka

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have recovered firearms, suspected stolen cash and other incriminating items after a vehicle conveying suspected armed criminals was involved in an accident while being chased by security operatives in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.

The recovery, according to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, followed an offensive security operation carried out by operatives attached to the Commissioner of Police Special Patrol at about 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16.

According to him, the suspects, while attempting to evade arrest, abandoned their operational vehicle after it crashed during a hot pursuit by the patrol team.

He revealed that items recovered from the abandoned vehicle include one pump-action rifle, one locally fabricated single-barrelled rifle, an ash-coloured Toyota Highlander with registration number UWN 680 PE, suspected stolen cash amounting to six hundred and thirty-six thousand, seven hundred naira (₦636,700), as well as other incriminating materials.

The PPRO further disclosed that the suspects fled the scene immediately after the accident, prompting an intensive manhunt. He also confirmed that intelligence-led operations have since been stepped up to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

“The Anambra State Police Command reassures the Ndi Anambra of its commitment to proactive policing, maintaining law and order, and safeguarding lives and property in the state,” he concluded.
With that plate number, I hope the security operatives will be able to track them down.

However, if the vehicle was stolen for the operation, i hope the original owner reported it stolen.

Price war and competition will definitely bring prices down.

But from what I'm seeing many players in the oil sector will fight tooth and nail to maintain status quo
Enjoy it while it lasts o. Cos It wont last for ever. Eventually someone will win this price war and prices will rise to recover losses during this period.

Also let's all pray crude prices don't go above $80 or Naira devalue materially, cos those will send prices higher.

Nigeria is the best country in Africa.
Calm down!!

What will you say of South Africa, Morocco and Tunisia. I have personally been to SA and Morocco and they are better. Ivory Coast and Ethopia may even have a case to be better sef. Even Rwanda.

However, I do agree that Nigeria may seem like a small London to some of the poorer African countries.

I was in Cameroon last week and their capital Yaounde is prettly low level. I'd rate Ibadan, Enugu and Kaduna above. Talkless of Lagos and Abuja.

And we should appreciate what we have. We say things are expensive here but when you go to these countries, you will appreciate. In fact on my flight to Cameroon, there were plenty people from there who had come to buy stuff in Lagos. They had plenty bags of goods. Petrol in Cameroon is like N2200 equivalent. And ordinary pringles that is like N3.9k here converted to like N5.5k there. Even toothpaste and body cream were like twice the price of what we have in Nigeria. And they do not look like they are paid better than we are.

Plenty big words and corporate talk. More likely than not NEPL took over another asset and added the volumes to say they have increased production. Otherwise it should be visible in the national volume.

With the amount of times Tinubu has visited France and met with Marcon of recent, surely the least Marcon can do is offer French intelligence and technology. Along with equipment, weapons and training.

I saw a video of a group of soldiers advancing in the bush today on X, and if thats really how our Army operates, its no wonder why we are struglling. No tactics, no coordination whatsoever. They showed poor training.

Nigerian Army should conduct counter terrorism by posing as travellers in mufti in fairly rickety vehicles and set ambush for the terrorists too.

Nigeria needs to do better in terms of intelligence gathering. We should have a network of 'spies' in the rural areas - folks like goat herders, shoe makers, vulcanizers etc who will monitor local gist of bandit and terrorist movement and relay info to a central control room in a coded manner.

You can't tell me the locals don't see these guys when they are riding around with heir multitude of bikes.

If we are serious in Nigeria, we should have done much more by ourselves.

its only in Nigeria that you will hear that millitants attacjked an army base for 5 hours. The same 5 hours that i will use to fly from Lagos to London! So in that time, they couldnt get Air Force support?

There are cheap Turkish drones that are like $5mln and can stay airborne for 24hours loaded with pricision guided missiles. Left to me, we should buy like 20. 15 fully armed (3 each for NE,NW and NC) and 5 with high tech cameras, infrared etc to surveillance gathering. We can then partner with western countries to place a sattelite permanently over Northern Nigeria. A sattelite can have 100 high definition camera, constantly monitoring movements in notorious bandit areas.

Then we should have like 5 attack helicopters ready to go at short notice at all times. Station 2 in NE and 2 in NW and one in NC. These helicopters will be fitted with our elite Army fighters on rotation to support ground forces with mop up operations after drone strikes.

If we keep at this dilligently for 1 year, we will decimate these terorists significantly. At least they wont roam around with impunity.

The problem with guyz like you is You dont shut up where necessary,

Presently in Nigeria, almost everyone is embracing "cashless transactions" opay, moniepoint e.t.c So what problem is higher domination notes coming to solve

of what benefit is a higher note in an economy drowning in hyper inflation ... we have #5, #10, 20, 50 and # 100 all uselezz n valueless already even 1000 the highest currency cant feed a child 3 meals a day

After Cbn waste our little resources to print higher 10k n 20k notes what do you think will happen to the smaller notes then inflation skyrocket again ... why do the rich hate the poor so much, if you must spend millions in a day do transfer, why cash anyways

Proposing for Higher note is a call for Final burial of " naira" no benefit, zero advantage
I advocate for cashless and infact 99% of my transactions are cashless, but once in a while you still need cash. As it is now you cant even gift anyone N1k. Even a 5 year old will be like what is this...it can't buy jack!!

And the cost of printing the N1k may be N400. The cost of printing N10,000 note may be N500.

Even CFA has 2000, 5000 and 10,000 single notes without your SUPERSONIC INFLATION fears and emotion.
Mind you a 5000 naira note will not even have the value of a 2000 CFA note.

2015
1000 naira = 3100 CFA

2025
1000 naira = 388 CFA

The argument being made is not about the value of the naira, we all know naira is not even worth the paper it's printed on.
The argument is about the portability of the naira.
Know the difference.

Textbook -wise, you score A+, But applying this to Nigeria, unfortunately, its Zero
Ok since 2005 when we had N1000 note has massive inflation not ocurred? Inflation is a function of more serious macro and fiscal indicators, not the absolute denomination of the currenct.

Your economics teacher in secondary school will be in severe pains reading your comment.
Im curious...so N1000 note was introduced in 2005. Twenty years ago. In that time that the highest denomination has remained the same, have we not seen inflation? So where was that inflation coming from?

Printing N22trls ways and means is more dmamaging than increasing Naira denomination
Corruption and loose money in the system does more damage than increasing naira denomination
Operating N20trln deficit and having excess money in the system does more damage than increasing naira denomination
Depreciation of the Naira, does more damage than increasing the naira denomination.

Personally id say we need N5,000 and N10,000 for now.

I put N20k in my wallet and it can barely handle any transaction, even though I don't use cash much. And I cant put more than that cos it makes my wallet too bulky, so whats the point.

Bro. When it comes to Nigeria, it is never a beer parlour gist. Why? The regulatory body hardly follow-up on their duties in this nation. Good example: ever since prices of edibles don go up, I observed something which is = Increase is price, decrease in quantity and quality. Then the question is why increase the price when you know that you will reduce quality and quantity. Let them bury the idea of higher denominations
Reducing quantity while still increasing price or at least keeping price stable happens everywhere. Its called shrinkflation. Some companies looking for 20% increase in price may have felt Nigerians cannot absorb it, so rather the increase price by 10% andnr educe quantity by 10%, thereby stylishly achieving their 20%
