PhonesHow Nigerians Can Force The GSM Operators To Serve Them Well by CompuEsther(op): 4:50am On Nov 19, 2013
I want to say this here: We Nigerians are responsible for the poor services and the rip-offs we are getting from the GSM operators in this country. We are just too soft on them.

But how can we get them to do as we want? The simple weapon in our hands is called 'number porting'. Do you know you can transfer your line to any network you like and still retain your number? That is what 'number porting' stands for. If your service provider is messing up, you were usually helpless about switching to another network all because your family, friends, business associates and acquaintances already had your number. But, it's no longer so. You can now transfer your number where you want it to be.

These are some of the key points based on which you can judge a particular service provider before you port your number to them:

1. Network coverage and strength

2. Customer service

3. Tariff

But instead, most Nigerians use other less important parameters as bases. For, instance, in my area, the poorest network is MTN especially in terms of network coverage and, may be, customer service while the best in these respects, is Etisalat. But, to my surprise, MTN is the most popular while Etisalat is the least popular. So, recently I had occasion to conduct a little research on this: I saw an MTN subscriber going around to get network signal whereas in my Etisalat, I had full bars everywhere. So, I asked, 'why do you guys like MTN so much in spite of their poor services, and the response I got was 'they do Who Wants to Be a Millionaire' to which I retorted, '...and how many times have YOU won it?' I marvel that someone is helplessly doomed with an annoying network because of something he might never get whereas he is sacrificing daily benefits.

So, since the above points affect you on daily and hourly basis, they should be considered before a promo benefit you may never get to enjoy, after all, every network has got such promos.

Now, I'll like everyone to rate his/her best network below based on the three points above (between 1 and 5) and give brief reviews (or reasons) for your rating. Let me start with my favorite network as a sample:

Favorite Network: Etisalat

1. Network Coverage: 4.5, Wherever I go, Etisalat coverage is full even in remote villages. I would have given them 5 but for about a day and half down time I experienced last week.

Customer service: 5, Each time I call customercare, I don't wait for more than 5 seconds unlike when I was with all the other networks where they would use that as an opportunity to fill my ears with their advert jingles. During the down time I experienced, I was totally satisfied with the speedy response I got. This is one reason I'd say of any service, 'give me a good customer service and everything else you do can be managed'.

Tariff: 3.5, Etisalat tariff (like all the other networks in Nigeria) is high compared to global rates. Indeed, Etisalat seems to be slightly higher than other networks in Nigeria especially in its data charges. But, while this is not quite a problem to me is that, I at least see they are investing much in customer service. I see what the money is used for. I would have given Etisalat just 2 or less here but for their new Easylife 4.0 where after spending N25 in a day at 40k/s, all your calls across the networks drop to 15k/s, that is, N9 per minute.

Just to correct an impression. I'm not wishing that the strike continues. After all, what do I stand to gain if it does? I'm also praying perhaps more than you are doing, that the strike ends soonest. But, we all know our country. While you pray, you should also be realistic or you might be risking HBP. Moreover, my suggestions above don't have to be relevant only during strikes. Thank you.
EducationASUU Strike Latest: Honest Ways Nigerian Students Can Make Money While It Lasts by CompuEsther(op): 10:36am On Nov 08, 2013
It is said that an idle mind is the devils work shop. The lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is no doubt bad news always. It is undermining the future of our country not only by denying our young people their right to education and self actualization, but also by tempting them towards making wrong use of their young blood. So, below are my suggestions of how Nigerian students can keep busy earning a living legitimately with the opportunity instead of getting involved in crimes and risking police arrest and even endangering their own life.

1. Take advantage of online opportunities. You can see my recent thread detailing on this and people's testimonials about it here: https://www.nairaland.com/1499756/thank-nairaland-how-made-n48300

2. Conduct lessons. Conducting lessons will serve a triple purpose. First, it will earn you money. Two, it will keep your brain alert even if you are not attending lectures. Three, it will be an opportunity to repair indirectly what ASUU is destroying directly: since the strike is denying you the opportunity to add more to your own knowledge (that is, power), you can use it as an opportunity to add to the younger ones and by so doing, you are rescuing parts of the collective future ASUU is destroying.

3. Write a book. If you had been using the opportunity to put something you know into writing, it should have become an enviable book by now. This will earn you, not only money, but also fame and respect. Is Chimamanda Adichie not a young Nigerian like you?

4. Write blog posts: Just go to www.blogger.com and start making posts that 'd be useful to someone out there. This might take time before it begins to yield good money, but it's better than nothing at least.

I will add more as I get them. So, you can follow this post to keep getting more. Thank you.

CareerUnemployment And Unemployability: Which Is Your Own Problem? Here Is A Challenge by CompuEsther(op): 12:21pm On Nov 07, 2013
HERE IS A CHALLENGE TO PROVE WHERE YOU BELONG

I am really inspired today. I am responding to some emails from my online audience in a program where I give career advice. These emails are really inspiring lots and lots of ideas in me. And, I can't think of a better place to share these insights but here on NL. I've just read a mail from a bloke who says he's an engineer and needs a job. Throughout his email, I could detect he is hardly serious in life or his IQ is far below average (judging from his very poor grammatical constructions, punctuation and general linguistic expression and foibles). I mean no one has it all, but there is a limit to what any employer can take. If I was looking for someone to employ, I'm sure this guy wouldn't have made the list forever. Does it sound like the reason many Nigerian graduates are unemployed? Well, answer that question yourself.

The super market is where you go to shop for products as the labor market is where you go to shop for competences. Do you ever enter a supermarket to buy what you are sure you don't need? In like manners, don't expect an employer to buy (sorry, employ) you if you can't show him/her you can be useful to him/her. Then, if you are able to prove you could be truly useful to an employer (like contributing in uplifting his company) he'd have no option except to employ you. Really, you are supposed to use your only as a means to pay yourself (and not to be paid by anyone whatsoever). And you should be the one to pay your employer for this.

In these days of the Internet, there are countless opportunities that prove that the real issue is NOT unemployment, but unemployability. They are opportunities in which you simply prove yourself on the job. Here, it's absolutely impossible to be a ghost worker (do they exist?). Here's my challenge to you, if you are sure you are employable (even if unemployed), visit www.igube.org, click on 'make money now' study the page, and you'd be making millions of naira in few months. If you can't do this, then you have to admit you are unemployable rather than unemployed. What's your take on this?
CareerHow Can I Make Money To Better My Life And The Life Of My Family? by CompuEsther(op): 9:49am On Nov 07, 2013
I have a program in which I give people tips on how to make money especially in Nigeria. Today, one of the members of my online audience sent me an email in which he asked me the above question. As I read the one liner, I felt a lot of pity for the asker. It was as if I immediately got right into him and felt it exactly as he feels it. With this when I went ahead to reply his mail, I felt I was writing under special inspiration. I wrote to recommend an earning program on Nairaland to him. But, as it turned out, what I wrote to him could not have been written by flesh and blood because even I, the supposed writer, have learned a lot from what I wrote. Knowing that many are also asking this same question, I feel like sharing what I wrote here:

START>>>>

Making money is far easier than many people think. First off, don't be anxious about it. Instead replace anxiety with faith (read and pray with Philippians 4:6). Here and now, believe you can be rich by God's power which is already in you HERE AND NOW. The people who are rich are humans like you. Many of those who are rich were once poor (I am a good example). So, even if you are poor now, you can be rich. Believe it now. Visualize a lot of money in your bank account now. Yes, have it here and now. See it with your mental/spiritual eyes and your bodily eyes will soon follow suit. Eventually, when you make this money, it will be like a dream (Read and pray with Psalm 126. Better if you observe a little fast alongside).

Then take ACTION immediately because faith without action is dead (cf James 2:14-26 pray with this scripture also). I recommend highly that you visit www.igube.org and click on 'Make Money Now' where you can learn for free how you start making money even TODAY. Especially, I recommend that you study the SUB 1 section first. Use it to raise money before you go to SUB 2 and 3. This is clear as day.

One inexorable law of wealth is that you must GIVE out something (no matter how small) before you can GET more. What to give out could be labor, money, respect, care, service, etc or a combination of these, and GIVING is not something anyone is naturally cut out to do. It is supernatural (not natural) to GIVE out, but it is natural (not supernatural) to RECEIVE. It is in the creator's essence to give and in the creature's essence to receive. So, when a creature gives, he is taking up something of the Creator's essence into his. So, his creatural limit receives something of the Creator's limitlessness. And the more you sow, the more you reap (2 Corinthians 9:6) is another divine law. That means the more you work on the program I recommend for you, the more you will earn. It is very very clear. 'Show me a man who is diligent at his work; he will live and dine with kings; he shall not be consigned to mean positions (Proverbs 22:29).

As I write this, $1 equals N159.31. So, multiply $8,090 by N159.31 and that's Seun's estimated DAILY earning. I believe NL should be quoted on the floor of NSE.

But don't begin to envy him, he really worked and worked and worked to achieve this. And he was able to take a visionary risk when owning a forum must have been looked upon as such foolishness, he ventured in and remained focused.

EducationRe: ASUU Strike May Last More Two Years. by CompuEsther: 8:40pm On Oct 31, 2013
This post has been too eye opening as well as poignant. I'm thinking of the future of this country. I'm sure what is happening here is being teleguided from a political motive from somewhere. Who says this government has not done well in this negotiation? Can't ASUU be patriotic for once? Does ASUU want to render the country insolvent? Even if some government reps signed the MoU or whatever under duress, where does prudence now go? Our president is humble, yes. But his humility is becoming a fault. Some people made overt statements to the effect that they'll make the country ungovernable for him. Now those same people are taking an advantage of our president's humility to foist all sorts of woes on this Nation ranging from terrorism to other subtle ways of undermining the commonwealth - like this strike. It's only under this humble President that someone can make an express statement against the sovereignty of this state and instead of cooling off in prison for treason and felony, that same person is forming all sorts of political mergers with the obvious sole aim of grabbing power and parading himself as a possible successor of the President. If only those fools learnt how to play politics from Americans, they'd have used this opportunity to score a political point, by intervening in the situation if only to give a semblance of patriotism. But how can their wooden self-centeredness let them? I'm actually weeping here. We want no more of this spineless President nor do we want any of his demonic detractors. We need a true leader. We need a Mandela in Nigeria. Someone ready to make a sacrifice for the Nation. Someone who is a philosopher king rather than these bundles of flesh. Who might that person be?

Meanwhile, if you are a student, instead of involving yourself in crime as a result of this madness going on, you could be busy making some money for yourself. I recommend that you visit this page www.igube.org and you'll start making money even from tomorrow. It is absolutely free. This is the only way this strike period would be advantageous: if it can provide an opportunity for you to contribute to the economy and help your family. Let's just pray and work towards uplifting this country especially ON INDIVIDUAL BASIS. Thank you.

AdvertsThank You Nairaland: How I Made N48,300 Here Last Week! by CompuEsther(op):
I want to seize this opportunity to thank Oluwaseun Osewa and the entire Nairaland Team for making it possible for us Nigerians to link up to great opportunities through this forum. I call on the Federal Government to confer a GCFR on Honourable Seun for this Nigerian trail blazer called NL. Then, as for those who have chosen to abuse this privilege, I am very sorry for you because over 95% of NLers are people who have a lot of experience on the web which means we can easily tell the true from the false.

I discovered Nairaland through Alexa.com as the most popular site in Nigeria after Facebook. It just occurred to me that there must be a good but totally home-grown way to make money online in Nigeria without having to pay to learn it, without the hassles associated with Paypal, dom account, waiting for payments for weeks and all that. Not that I didn’t want to pay but that I couldn’t trust the sellers (there were many of them and there was no clear-cut means of telling the genuine from the fake except if you can find someone who gives it all out free. Such a person would have no need to deceive and I knew deep down that there must be such a person on NL). My thinking was, ‘if NL is the most popular local Nigerian site, then it must be a kind of an online version of the country itself. That means this is where I have the highest chances of connecting with opportunities locally.

The first thing I did after I joined was to start following topics that promised me money everywhere I saw it on NL. Almost everyone of such threads was trying to sell stuff to me, but I refused to be swayed by their sugar-coated sales pitches. I remained focused and kept searching while praying until Friday 18th October, 2013 when I came in contact with this NL thread:

https://www.nairaland.com/1465906/jobs-nigeria-today-online-marketing

I just wanted to check it out the way I always did. At first, it looked half real and half unreal, but I was encouraged by the saying ‘readers are leaders’ quoted somewhere along the line. I told myself it’s better I have to study than to pay for what I’m not sure of. After all, if this was an e-book that I bought, wouldn’t I read it? So, I spent a whole day studying before I started (I actually had to print out web pages on Words). Within six days of working, I had N48,300 added to my bank account, and still counting. This is the highest amount of money I’ve ever made in a week! Sorry if you are disappointed, but I'm not as rich as you might be.

I’m so excited about this that I’ve been sharing it with everyone both online and offline. Now, I’ve decided to start a thread on this. If you are reading this and you are a seeker like me, I advise you to stay here on NL but ‘shine your eyes’. Just as it is everywhere – in Nigeria and overseas; online and offline – there are fake people and there are real people. You must find what suits you. Remember, what worked for me may not work for you but as long as you seek you must find. But while you seek to find, don’t forget to ask that you may receive (Mathew 7:7). Thank you and the best of wishes to YOU.

Christianity EtcRe: Do You Believe In Prayers Posted Online? by CompuEsther: 11:45am On Oct 31, 2013
Whether online or offline, what gives prayer its power is the faith in it. Before you shout 'no! it's not faith but God', faith means confidence in God. It means an awareness that there's someone bigger than you who can do what you - in your littleness - think impossible. On the other hand, faithlessness is like an ant thinking it's impossible for anyone whatsoever to carry a bucket of water simply because it can't do so itself. Isn't that foolishness on the part of the ant? So, faithlessness is foolishness.

I saw this saying somewhere: 'God answers prayers, he has many ways of doing that'. Don't ever think 'how can God do this one?' Just know he can do it. And if ever you feel you could be an answer to someone's prayer, don't hesitate to do so. That's another way of praying: by acting in faith; by doing something for God's sake. With this in mind, let me share this with you: if you have been praying for a good source of income, this might be the answer to your prayer: www.igube.org. It's an NGO helping Nigerians to succeed financially. If you don't need this, you can look around you and see that someone needs it. Tell someone and you'd be blessed.
