Following the release of the kidnapped Dapchi schoolgirls by Boko Haram terrorists , a father of one of the abducted girls, Sheribu Nata, has disclosed that his daughter, Leah Sheribu was not released by Boko Haram terrorists because she refused to abandon her Christian faith for Islam.

Nata, in an interview on RayPowers’ political platform programme, said he had spoken to about six parents who are already with their daughters, stressing that he is happy that his daughter did not denounce the faith. He disclosed that the girls were dropped in Dapchi town just before 9am on Wednesday morning.


His words, “Right now, I’m not in Dapchi. I’m in my duty post. I called the parents who are in Dapchi. I was informed that my daughter was not released. All of them have been released but they said some were dead there, but my daughter is alive. They said she was a Christian that’s why they could not release her. They said she cannot be released until she becomes a Muslim. And my daughter said she would never be a Muslim.

“I spoke with about five to six of them whose daughters have been released. They are presently with their daughters in Dapchi. They were dropped by the Boko Haram people in Dapchi town this morning. I am happy because my daughter did not denounce her faith. They refused to release her because she refused to convert to Islam.”

“We want the world to come to our assistance before these Fulani exterminate us and inherit our land. We have lost confidence in the security agencies posted to us. From their actions, we believed they have been instructed to adopt ‘siddon look’ while we are being massacred. “Right now a coordinated war is raging simultaneously in most villages in Omala, Dekina, and Bassa local government areas. Our people are being killed and houses burnt down, even as our women are being raped while many children who ran from the theatre of war are still missing.

“Since the attacks begun, we cannot go to the farms while markets have been closed. Hunger has come to stay on our soil. If drastic measures are not taken to quell these mad killings by these herdsmen, food insecurity will take over our land,” a resident said. On Saturday, Governor Yahaya Bello visited the crisis prone area of Oganenigu where several lives were lost, while houses were burnt. Over 45 motorbikes and food were carted away the invading Fulani herders, with a promise to take the attack across the state.

Presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, says President Buhari’s scheduled visit to Rivers state is as a result of the repeated killings and beheadings happening in the state.



Recall that on January 1st, an attack carried out by some militants/cultists in Omoku community in the state led to the death of 20 persons who had just returned home from church where they had gone to usher in the new year.



Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, last week questioned the reason for the presidential visit. Governor Wike in a state function, said his state is peaceful and that there was no need for the presidential visit. He also alleged that the presidency is yet to inform him on the planned visit.



Reacting to Wike’s comment, Femi Adesina in an interview he had over the weekend, said that President Buhari wants to condole with the families that have lost loved ones during the various killings in the state.

“If Governor Wike doesn’t understand, the rest of the country understands. We understand, other Nigerians understand. Even people in Rivers state understand because on New Year Day, a minimum of 24 people were killed in Omoku. So, is that not crisis? And can you count the number of people that have been beheaded in Rivers state in recent times? People will be killed and heads will be cut off and the assailants will go away with the heads. So, can anybody say that there is no security issue in that kind of place? It’s left to the governor. He’s the chief security officer. If he says there’s no security crisis in his state, good luck to him.”

Asked what will happen if Governor Wike fails to welcome the president during his scheduled visit, Adesina said ‘‘I’m sure he will be formally informed of the date. So, if he now says he doesn’t want the visit, it’s left to him and the federal government to decide the next step. But the president is visiting so that he can condole with people who lost their loved ones, 24 people minimum, were killed in Omoku. So, those people are the reason. Those people and the many beheaded; relations of those beheaded and their heads taken away, are the reason why the president is visiting the state.”
