Yes nice observation, you’re right. What actually causes the increased fuel consumption is mainly the compressor. Once the compressor clutch engages and it starts rolling it will put its load on the engine and make it use more power hence the need for more fuel.

What triggers the compressor clutch to engage and disengage is the thermostat. So since you have been setting your air conditioner to a relatively mild temperature the thermostat will only keep the compressor engaged till the temperature inside the vehicle reaches the one you set for it. Once it gets there the thermostat will trigger the compressor clutch to disengage and stay disengaged till the thermometer inside the dashboard tells the thermostat that the cabin temp has changed by a few degrees then the thermostat will immediately trigger the compressor on again to provide cool air.

That you set a mild value for your cabin temperature means your compressor stays on for shorter durations at a time and therefore shouldn’t make you consume as much fuel as compared to if you had set your cabin temp very low.

I'm discussing with a partner on a rental. 40k weekly. Then he wants all repairs on the driver. His reason is that it will make the driver handle the car like his own. But am proposing to handle repair below 15k and we share repair above 15k 70:30. 70% for the car owner.
Also, he want car to be returned for inspection every Saturday morning and I take it back Sunday evening. But am proposing twice a Month for inspection and not weekly.
I need experience drivers and partners to tell me if am wrong.

When he says repairs I hope he knows that monthly oil and filter changes are not included.

If he wants to be inspecting it every weekend then arrange it favorably for both of you. It means there will be serious downtime and loss of productivity from the vehicle itself (since weekends are more profitable). If you still go ahead with his business try to include it in the contract that he will fund the drop off and pickup of his vehicle at his inspection venue every weekend plus renegotiate rent considering the revenue you will both be forfeiting during the duration of inspection.
