Fickle:
As a mother of 2, I am really dissappointed at the comments ladies here are making. I have shifted away from confrontation but I think the ladies here need to be flogged in the head. Is every story that a man puts up here enough to jump at their defense all the time. As cuddles stated, goldie also agreed what happened to solidarity amongnst women. It is this same attitude that is shown in our daily lives that why women are constantly rendered useless in the society. If all ladies agree that majority of women depend on men for money then it means majority of nairaland ladies are gold diggers no wonder most of you are always online all the time, this is where you make your living off innocent & spotless men with no sin. Which thread has been created to address men and their love for the female reproductive organ or all the heart breaks they have caused. Most ladies are under the shackles of men, I pity you all better wake up and smell the coffee. Fine these things happen but why can't the men take their time to associate with responsible girls or wife material. You can keep blaming ladies because you over stepped your boundaries with high profile ladies.

All of the ladies chanting, I am married. Just pray your uterance does not affect your future, when men see that ladies are testifying that naija ladies are like that, they would flee from you all rendering all of you single for life. Keep scaring your gender. Men have nothing to loose with all their wickerdness. Ladies and their stupidity, God help us all.

As for that precious egg that said naija babes that stay abroad are more decent or have better orientation, you are a big dunce. Most of you can't even wash your stinking pants as washing machine & coins has spoilt your lives. Some of you can't cook, don't have respect for elders and move around like bolos. I had to train my niece how to cook because we want her married out, she could not even boil water. So shut up, decency has nothing to do with location but your own self. keep jonzing. keep washing your dirty gutter to foreigners that read Nland and get a wrong impression about the ladies, making the men look like saints. omo ti o ba gbo oro ni ile, wa ko ni ta. Awon omo ti wan fe jasi, ki ni awon omode yi mo. jeje laye
this fickle is so fickle-minded!

so the fact that you are married suddenly makes you better than young girls who are yet to marry?
then you went as far as saying all nairaland ladies are gold-diggers - where is your evidence to back this, madam fickle!

Let them generalize then like they always do on NL. It's just hypocritical that some of these same guys that come on here to complain about our girls will continue to spend money on them in real life. Atleast there are still women with sense and values that won't fall for some sleazy guy throwing money at them.
i have no doubt that there are plenty of women with sense and values. matter of fact, you get to meet those type more often than not. the point is even if you have 10% gold-digging babes prowling around - one would still feel they are too many.

the same guys that come here to complain will continue to spend in real life because they have to. if they don't, they are never gonna get to their promised land! naija boys use what they have to get what they want.

Why wouldn't they demand it if they weren't first used to expecting money thrown at them because of their previous guys? Are you trying to say naija girls are brought up to always demand money or what?
majority are!
they grew up watching their dads giving their mums cash to fix the necessaries in the house.

mind, i did not say all nigerian women act this way. the truth is, the topic is a polarizing one.
even if 10% of the nigerian women are this way, it still represents about 7 million in sheer numbers. people would still generalize based on what 7 million women do - forgetting there are about 63 million women who are not like that.

I completely agree with you OP and I'm glad that you didn't generalize all naija girls. However, I believe some men are just as responsible for creating the current situation that's going on. You've probably seen many threads on here already looking down at independent women and saying we're not "wifey material" just because we choose to be successful. Or threads about rich aristos & married men throwing money at gals all the time, spoiling them completely. . . you get the point  undecided
if the girls don't demand it, i doubt rich aristos and married men would be throwing money at what they can get for free!

@OP, you're right, naija babes are the most materialistic in the world. I just returned from naija, my own experience with naija babes was horrible,  One visited me in my hotel and asked me for 85k to buy a hand-bag without any sense of how difficult it is to get 85k in naija. I initially had the intention to marry back home, but I have seen things from naija girls that made me change my mind. I pity Nigerians abroad who goes home to marry or marry one and dump her in Nigeria with kids,  Many guys abroad are not even responsible for those kids naija babes are carrying for them. More than half of  naija babes are already a waste product that can never be re-circled.

Where were the Aguero, Dzeko, Nasri, Silva, Kolo, Yaya that was screwing all defences in England.

Valencia - I cant even remember anything he did right.
Fabio - he was light-weight throughout.

Defensively, we didn't perform.
We mustn't defend like that against Norwich.
it was the rate at which every player was getting involved in the attack that got me shitting kittens!

naturally, when phil jones makes his bursting runs, somebody in the midfield or in the defence should be tactically sound to cover the hole jones has left. but everyone was bursting forward at the speed of light. . . . .and those basel strikers were excellent. they know where the hole was and they just attacked the space exquisitely! alexander frei is such a brilliant striker. he was very good last night!

all we just have to do is beat the weakest team in the group home and away and we must beat basel in the return leg!
now, fergie must know he needs his strongest team in the remaining fixtures.

Hence we can afford to send in Alaba, petersen, Usami and our teenage boyz to do the damage .

enough of your pre-ejacs, city went to allianz arena and they got served!
whether the return leg would be meaningless or not is not city's concern. they must now win all their remaining games at home to qualify.

One average performance and people are already pointing fingers and laying blames
some of the comments i read here are pathetic!
some fans should not be supporting the club,

Why are people attacking Ando and Rio for last nights game? undecided undecided undecided
So cos Rio was the most experienced defender on duty, he should take all the blame? Common now guys.
Yes, we threw the game away and we are all disappointed but I dont buy this unfair criticism labelled at the wrong guys mostly.
what gets me is that rio/ando even had better performances than most members of the team.
valencia caused the penalty. . . . . .phil jones caused the headed goal and the first goal was a corner kick. if one of the full-backs(fabio/valencia) was manning the post, that goal wouldn't have been scored - but lets blame rio and anderson for everything.

trust united fans to come out with the daggers and lay the blame on the front door of their most hated players in the team.
phil jones showed his naivety for the third goal and when evra saw jones bombing forward, he should have stayed back. we had 3 defenders roaming forward like crazy and rio was the only covering defender for the 3rd goal. . . . .but let's blame rio.

Rio was actually our best defender last night . . . or which other defender had a better game than Rio?
thank you, sir!
evra and valencia/fabio and jones had stinkers. they were only good going forward.
they did nothing defensively as they were mostly forward when basel countered!

And I'm still scratching my head on what Ando did wrong in the match also . . . was it his fault Fergie didn't sign a decent CM.
Or what other option do we have? . . . . maybe we should bring Gibson back then or the inexperienced Pogba maybe y'all will be happy.
anderson had a fantastic performance - so was carrick.
united conceded those 3 goals because 3 defenders were always caught upfield and ryan giggs had one of his worst performances ever.
yes, people would point to his 2 goal assists but he gave the ball away more times than any other player on the pitch. with his brains intact, united should have scored 4 or 5 goals before basel decided to turn up the heat! and at 4-0, basel would have lost the will to fight!

The team got complacent . . . . simple! And I dare say that result and the way things happened was a one-off. (Going 2 nil up and conceding 3).
The most important lesson is for the players to buckle up and learn from it.
Putting the blame on Rio and Ando is actually unfair.
the worst performers in no particular order:

--fabio(positional naivety)
--evra(positional naivety)
--valencia(positional naivety)
--giggs(dreadful passes, selfish, shyte decisions)
--phil jones(positional naivety)

man utd 3-3 basel fc and people are about to commit suicide?
just 2 seasons ago, 09/10 for the people who cannot count. . .and people who follow dayokanu's rants with gullibility!

man utd 3-3 cska moscow
man utd 0-1 besiktas

yes, a lowly rated team - besiktas defeated united at old trafford and we needed the calvary of rooney and co. to equalize against cska moscow after they led 3-1 at old trafford in 09/10. i did not see this much bile then. when are united fans going to realize fergie does not take group games serious especially at old trafford? our away results in champions league are better than the home results. i didn't even expect much when i saw the line up with welbeck and giggs in the attack. . . .

as per rio ferdinand, i wonder how rio was to blame for the 3 goals united conceded last night. 2 were from set pieces, a corner kick and a penalty(valencia's foul) in the box. the 3rd goal was clearly evra's fault. evra lost the ball and basel countered the attack effectively and scored. yes, let's blame rio for the inadequacies of evra, valencia and most of all the ageless ryan giggs who does not know when to retire. he gave the ball away more times than any player last night - he wasted many scoring chances when he should have found welbeck with simple passes!

united have no problems at all. i fully expect man utd to win the group.
all they have to do now is to beat basel in switzerland and beat benfica at old trafford. if fergie plays a weakened side against that roman side again, i expect another draw at old trafford. the important games in this group now are the basel away and benfica home. you guys should stop your knee jerks, we have been here before and rio ferdinand was blameless in all the goals scored last night!

This is embarassing.  How can anyone evaluate pass completion rate without knowing the total number of passes made and The number of succesful ones
There is no way you can evaluate pass completion rate without knowing the total number of passes
Pass completion rate = (Succesful passes/ Total Passes)%
which Arithmetic model can you use to evaluate the number of percentage of white books in a shelf without knowing the total number of books?
dayokanu - stop embarrassing yourself. so if deborah completes 24 out of a total of 25 passes and dupe completes 100 of 1000 passes, you are saying dupe is a better passer of the ball than deborah cos 1000 is more than 25? you are a reprobate! this is why i said looking at sheer total passes is not the key - but how many of those total passes were completed!

The stats provided shows that Drogba has more assists than Torres which means he makes better decisions with the ball than Torres
a direct pass to a goal-scorer is not the only way assists stats are recorded. other factors apply and this is why key passes is a better measure.
besides, drogba has always had better team-mates than torres. torres probably makes better passes in the danger area with tools like babel, kuyt and rieri fluffing their lines. drogba has anelka, malouda, etc who always find the net!

@ Nateevs

I think you've moved away from your original proposition. . . .as I understood it, you were arguing that Torres does more for the team. The stats don't bear this out when we look beyond overall passing. As cases like Denilson have shown, the sheer volume of completed passes may not be a good measure of a player's team contribution.
it does!

denilson is a defensive midfielder. he's the first to make himself available to the centre-halves to retain possession as the full-backs push forward.
denilson's passes are mostly in the area of the pitch where the pressure from the opponents is the lowest.

drogba/torres operate where the pressure from the opponents is the highest.
they have split seconds to make decisions as their markers breathe on their necks.

Yes Torres has scored more goals than Drog, but is much poorer when it comes to assists.
If Drogba is creating more goals (i.e. assists) than Torres, then he is a more productive team player than Torres.
assist stats are overrated and it depends on what you mean by assists anyways.
so many things are counted as assists these days that pay little or no contribution to the goals scored. drogba shoots, almunia parries, lampard scores - that's drogba's assist! drogba hits the post, kalou scores, drogba assist! which of those means drogba is a good passer of the ball?

If we take into consideration your argument about Torres playing for a lesser side compared to DD, we may be able to determine who is a better team player provided statistics about chance creation are available.
Do you know if such stats are available  - i.e. chances created by both players to facilitate a comparison?
i will dig for it!

In the 09/10 season, Torres made 416 passes. - Suc 272, Unsuc 144. . . . . . . 34% unsuccessful pass rate.
drogba is poor.

2011/12
drogba has completed 20 out of 32 passes - 63% pass completion
-torres has completed 97 of 133 passes - 73% pass completion

in 2010/11
drogba: 439 passes completed in 785 passes - 56% pass completion
torres: 431 passes completed in 639 passes - 67% pass completion

the difference is clear, drogba has the first touch of a rapist!

What are succesful passes? Someone has more assist and you are still on this succesful Denilson-Mikel passes?
passes retain the ball and since we all know torres operates in the final third of the pitch where there are more tackles, his ball retention ability should be applauded. denilson and mikel are defensive midfielders. unless you are suggesting when torres receives the ball, he passes it back to the defenders/goalkeeper, this comparison is daft as well.

you have made quite a lot daft excuses tonight - it seems you are not in form!

Can you tell us how many penalties Drogba took? ARe you also forgetting that Torres played more games in those 4 yrs than Drogba?
the number of games torres played has no bearing. we are calculating ratio.
drogba took more than a dozen penalties and almost the same number of direct freekicks at chelsea. if you deduct that from his tally, drogbahas the lowest productivity amongst his peers. even lower than berbatov!

Dude. I will not go on arguing like you do. I will concede to Drogba having more assists than Torres.
That said, it is the only thing Drogba has on Torres. Only thing. Assists sometimes can be overrated.
that drogba had mote assists than torres even means shyte!
is that what dayo and ibime wanted to use to say torres doesn't possess a better football brain than drogba? laughable.

torres was in a 4-2-3-1 system at liverpool, drogba has always been in a 4-3-3 system.
drogba can find duff, joe cole, kalou, anelka, malouda and robben and make goals.
torres is all alone - a one man soldier who relies on the passes of his midfielders to bang goals.

this is why his goals is 66 and the other strikers are lower than him in that respect!
talking about creativity, would ibime and dayokanu(2 polarizing phat phools) argue that iniesta is not creative because of his poor assists in comparison to errrrr, lampard or gerrard?

Torres makes more successful passes than Drogba and Torres has outscored Drogba in the league 58 to 53 goals.
All Torres' goals come from open play. No penalties and no free kicks. Torres is a pure striker. Not saying that Drogba isn't.
Therefore I can conclude that potentially Torres is a better team player than Drogba.

I've said many times that Alonso and Mascherano is as good as anything in their position. This is during Gerrard vs Lampard debates. Liverpool midfield was equivalent to Chelsea midfield jor!
very daft comparison considering the fact chelsea won 3 league titles and liverpool won nowt.
besides, lampard had makelele, essien, ballack as team-mates whilst gerrard had alonso. mascherano was shyte in his first 2 seasons at pool!
matter of fact, he was shyte throughout in liverpool!

Now the excuse is that Torres wasn't playing with assist King (Lampard). Well Torres is now playing with assist King and does not like the kind of chances Lamps creates. Mind you regardless of Lamps poor form, he was still top of chances created with 14 before last weekend (Ashley Young second with 11). That means maybe Torres would not have scored even with assist King.
by the time torres joined chelsea, lampard had seen better days in his career.
another daft comparison!

Nwaanyi muta ite ofe mmiri mmiri, di ya amuta ipi utara aka were suru ofe
(If a woman decides to make the soup watery, the husband will learn to dent the fufu before dipping it into the soup).

Torres could not dent his fufu to eat Lampard's soup so I don't think he would have done better than DD even if he was at Chelsea.
he would have done far better than drogba in drogba's shoes - that is pretty much certain!
torres carried liverpool in benitez's years. drogba did not carry nada in mourinho's era. terry, robben, joe cole, lampard, essien etc did at one point or the other.

You can deduct Dtogbas penalties if you have the figures. I am still certain he would bag more points cos Lampard is the 1st choice penalty taker for Chelsea
lampard is the first choice but in the games where lampard got substituted, drogba takes the ball and tucks it in.
i cannot count the number of direct freekicks drogba has hammered into the net - even with that, drogba's ratio is just a bit higher than torres'

if you take out drogba's pen kicks from it, he would be the lowest!

Torres had a more priviledged background

Torres grew up in an academy and his parents introduced him to football at the age of 5 in a proper academy

Drogba probably saw a proper football field at the age of 15. I read that he actually started off as a defender.

At the same age of 15 Torres was already representing Spain

We can say that if Drogba has the proper environment Torres had he would have been wayyy better despite the bad background he is still better than Torres.

Between age 23- 27 actually within 2 yrs Drogba went from an $80,000 striker to a $24m Striker and the best striker in the whole of Europe in 2004.

Anyone who followed marseille in 2004 like I did would know that.

DIDIER DROGBA GOALS + ASSIST 2007/2008 till date (53 + 38 =91)  Appearances 114

DIMITAR BERBATOV GOALS + ASSIST 2007/2008 till date (56 + 32 = 88) Apperances 135

WAYNE ROONEY  GOALS + ASSIST 2007/2008 till date (52 + 37 = 89) Appearances 120

FERNANDO TORRES GOALS + ASSIST 2007/2008 till date (66 + 18 = 84) Appearances 122

http://www.premierleague.com

Drogba that doesnt contribute to team play has 38 assists in 4 seasons while Torres that contribute to team play has less than half.

Trash talk comes in different way and I think nateevs has carved a niche for himself in senseless argument

Not minding the fact that Drogba is 4-5yrs older than Torres and his performance would only decline from now.

The period in consideration Drogba was between age 29-33 (When attacking players are in decline) and Torres was 23-27yrs (The age where strikers are at their peak)

Drogba goals + assists per game ratio is 0.8 While that of Torres is 0.7.
except that in the statistics drawn out, only torres has not scored from the penalty spot/freekick in his 5 seasons in england!
dimitar scored few pens and freekicks for spurs.

drogba and rooney are perpetual set-piece takers - rooney scored a hatrick of set-pieces against arsenal last month!
drogba and lampard fight regularly to boss set-pieces

torres is a pure goal-scorer. all his goals in this league were copped from open play. his statistics is the best as far as creativity is concerned
followed closely by dimitar berbatov. . . .

go and deduct the number of penalties and direct freekicks from drogba's goal haul and let's have a proper argument.
goals scored from penalties can dope up a players' statistics to make him look scary!

Show me one top class striker who has never been top striker in any league for almost a decade of pro soccer.
wayne rooney has never been a top striker in any league - he's better than any striker in bundesliga.

Show me a striker who has to be stuck to the bench for his team to win the World cup
coming from spain, it's expected.
if torres' parents were german, he would start for germany!
are you gon' tell me torres won't start for england, france, italy, germany or portugal?

Only example is Fernando Torres
How can one play ahead of Xavi and Iniesta and still turn in such horrible numbers
it means shyte!
torres did it when it matters. scoring in a european final game!
that alone is enough to prove he's world class!

Disagreed! Primarily the role of a CF is to score goals not get involved in teamwork though that doesnt mean he should turn to be a shyte statue on the pitch.

Torres has always been a great striker right frm his days at Calderon, recked defenses on his coming to Anfield {Ask Vidic more on this}, so putting up a comparison of any sort of him n DD doesnt to me make any sense!

DD just like everyother african has got the energy to put up team workrate that could be found missing in El nino but on a good day he aint Skillful and Clinical as ma Madrid bruva!
don't pay attention to ibime, he's a charlatan!

he will tell us soon kevin davies is better than berbatov cos the bolton striker copped more yellow cards than any premier league defender last season thus he's a team-worker. grin
