Goals scored is not a basis for determining how much a player earns or is worth. It has never been never. Izaghi was never a top earner as far as I know. Let Chicharito score above 20 goals every season, he will never be a top earner because of his little contribution to general play.

When we bought Rooney from Everton, he had just 15 goals in 67 appearances. Yet he was rated very high. Watch a player general play and his overall contribution. When a player like Wayne Rooney adds so much goals and assists, it's a big bonus.

So they said he was finished in early part of 2010/2011. From August to December 2010 Rooney scored only 2 goals (a worse record than whatever measure used this season). The whole world wrote him off, and I was one of the few who stood by him, same with Alex Ferguson.

In the second half of the season, Rooney scored 14 goals including a goal in the UCL final vs Barca. The following season he went on to score 27 EPL goals and over 30 in all competitions.

Van Persie went 10 matches without scoring any goal in 2012/2013 season. Droughts do happen.

I see Rooney who is still very balanced on the ball and contributing very well. The goals will come next season if he doesn't get injured playing for England or preseason.

That stat is wrong. I have just given you the games Rooney played as a lone striker. 5 goals in 12 games. Then as a centre forward, 6 goals in 13 games- plus the QPR game. He also has assists there to complement.

Again, Rooney played in the striking position when our midfield isolated the number 9. The other teams allowed United to do whatever they wanted with the ball in midfield as long as they wouldnt be allowed to find their free in the box. Our number 9 was caught between two centre backs all the time as teams parked the bus against us. This was why none of our strikers could score once we settled into our passing game. The number 9 is the victim of the system.

I absolutely do not want to see Rooney as a number 10 or in midfield. I'll be happy to be proved wrong but unless you're advocating Rooney being sold which isnt realistic and wont happen then I dont see how you want to play Rooney next season if you buy a new striker.

Ideally, I would like a new world class striker but that isnt going to happen because Rooney has to play ( according to LvG). I can only accept Rooney in the starting lineup as a number 9. I dont like it when he plays anywhere else.

For that to happen, RvP knows he must now accept a place on the bench as the sub for Rooney upfront. Wilson either on loan or enters the rotation with either.
