naijababe: It's definitely smoking in here.

Not here to apportion blames or question anyone's experience, all I know is that men are just as easily susceptible and very rarely live to tell their stories. Most times they get killed by the supposed weaker sex. One of my male cousins was a victim and he did not live to tell his story, unfortunately no one could really help him, he was abandoned to his fate and died as a result. His abuser also died from an accident within a few years of her victim's death rendering 3 young children under 15 orphans cry

Clearly, men are not going share their experiences especially in a strongly patriarchal society like Nigeria for that matter, domestic abuse/violence is serious and should not be trivialised by turning it into an 'us' and 'them' issue.
you make me sad for coming up with this illuminating piece about what men go through underneath! to some of the zombies in this section, it doesn't happen because no one came out to speak about it. the people that came up with the intelligence quotient of the average nigerian as 69 are very wrong! it's far less than the half of that figure with the amount of knuckleheads in this section with their pity-party stories!

surely, i have seen more intelligent donkeys @ chester zoo! you come to the family section and the horrorcore is disturbing! it's always negative news after the other - abeg, people with no happiness in their life should get help and stop spreading negativity about marriage - don't queer the pitch for the single folks here.....if your marriage is giving you nightmares, seek professional help! all i know is marriage is like a garden - tend to it and beautiful flowers would blossom....ignore it and prepare to see weed, stubborn grass and other ugly plants in it!

Ihedinobi: What are you, dude, the village fool? You learn a few words from a dictionary, string them together like a child's plaything and think you make sense?

Do you need to be taught english too in addition to elementary biology and social studies? What part of the op and other posts here suggests that men should be ignored? If that's how good your comprehension is, your degree is not worth the paper it's on.

Anyhow, I've lost interest in you. I've come to see that stuff like this is a game to you. You just need to say something, anything, no matter how stu.p.id, to angle for attention. No point attempting to get through to a non-existent intellect.

And, dude, believe me, you wouldn't last half a minute in that section with your ubiquitous idiocy.
do you know what rhymes with your username? deluded zombie!
you are a product of your environment and i would hazard a guess that environment is an obscure part of ajegunle or the murky waters of warri where domestic abuse can only mean "physical abuse" and physical abuse can only mean the use of muscles and tissues. when your creator was distributing intelligence - you were on a leave of absence!

your argument that men are always the culprits in marital abuse because they are physically stronger than women already tells me you are a simpleton! like i reiterate, you are a product of your environment where the defenceless mama bomboy gets battered by blows and kicks all the time - you have probably never heard of women palming a piece and shooting their husbands - never heard of women stabbing their husbands - and we are still on physical abuse chapter....i haven't even mentioned verbal abuse, emotional abuse, financial abuse which are all under the umbrella of domestic abuse.....i guess you also need big bones and height to verbally/emotionally abuse a spouse! what an airhead!

you are a disgrace to the community that sponsored your education - what a plank! i close my eyes and i see a vision: a man sitting outside a block of flats dressed in khaki shorts and a dirty wife-beater shirt hand-washing the undies of his missus while humming a gospel song! if i ever get interested to visit your religious section - start praying cos i would show you up as a verminous charlatan that you are! you idiotic onanist!

oh, shut up already with your sob stories - your hypocrisy makes me sick....you didn't sob when you lost a loved one to cancer but yeah - you sobbed cos you were reading tales akin to nollywood movies here - well done! keep going, you would get a medallion for sobbing by the end of the year!

Oh yeah, what's with the unnecessary Engilsh from most of y'all? Well,we have to show how educated we are, don't we? I'm new here, and OMG its so much fun already. Haha.

Ihedinobi: Damn! Dude, I finally finished it. Never saw such rank idiocy in my life except in the religion section. It's far more pathetic here because this is real life not philosophical ponderings.

Yo beefin cos men are more the culprits here? What nonsense! Why don't you provide instances of men who got killed by their wives or who escaped from their wives' lethal abuse? I assure you you'll win some award of some sort for it.

Quit being a hater. Men are physically stronger than women, weight for weight. If anyone exerts physical strength to overpower and bully the other to the point of threatening their lives, it's more likely to be the man than the woman. Considering that fact, why the hell is it an issue that such threads as this should be more populated by women's stories than men's? You don't need to be taught elementary biology and social studies, do you?

What's with "fair-minded", "360-degree-perspective" buffoons like you? Why'd you think being having a robust perspective and considering all angles necessarily makes the first party guilty? What the hell do you have in your skull?

Fools like you piss me the hell off. And no, I don't need cyanide, I'm not self-destructive like fools tend to be.
look at this hypersensitive imbëcile and his brainless rants.
this is not the religious section, you would get pulled apart here if you display any iota of stüpidity here...so cos women are more likely to be abused mean men should be ignored?
i have never seen such obsequiousness in my entire life - are you serious? you have never seen or heard of women who killed their husbands? women who poured acid on their partners?

well - one my pet peeves is having to tutor semi-illiterate unexposed silverbacks like yourself - someone should show this obnoxious obese cretin a tv show called "snapped" before he infects the whole nairaland community with his tunnel vision! in the punditry of hard currency, your intelligence at best would be the somalian shillings! you are so poor in spirit it embarrasses me that we can even exchange words! half-baked graduates like yourself should not even be allowed to discuss the weather let alone an intellectual discourse such as this!

you're pathetic!

dayokanu: How many seasons have Oscar and hazard spent in Chelsea?
David Luiz, Gary Cahill, Mata, Oscar, Hazard

I.e Half of the Chelsea lineup yesterday joined the team after Torres yet its Torres who needs time
torres is the one who needs to score - torres is the most marked and his job is the most difficult especially when the creative force behind him rarely feeds him!

Last season it was Malouda, lampard, Drogba, Kalou Sturridge that were the problem, This season Its now Mata, Hazard, Oscar, Cahill etc
the change in personnel couldn't have helped him.....he needs time to gel with OHM to et the best out of him!

We cant blame Torres for his inability to score last season, We cant blame Torres for his inability this season, Its always the other players, coaches, weather, pitch, economy, sexuality thats to blame never Torres
play to his strengths and the rest would be history........
look at the services van persie has been getting from team mates. i am yet to see a pin-point cross delivered to torres feet in the 6-yard box this season from the so-called maestros. it's not only about having good players behind you - the good players must also be selfless in service - not looking for cheap glory! valencia and rooney could be shooting from impossible angles too but they would rather find van persie and let him do the finishing!

RVP- 7 goals
Demba Ba 7 goals
Suarez 6 goals
Michu - 6 goals
Defoe , Fletcher, Dzeko Most of these players have worse creative behind them yet still manage to score but never the DUD
this comparison is as silly as the person who wrote it because like i have said, the quality of the team-mates means nothing if they are not selfless enough to feed their strikers. ordinary west brom lays it on the plate at least 5 times for lukaku - but chelsea gives torres 1 chance per game. it's a disgrace!

dayokanu: Less than a year ago you all claimed malouda, Sturridge, lampard and Drogba are the problems with Torres and once they are out Torres would start scoring

Infact When it was only Hazard, mata and Lampard, Nateevs singled out Lampard as the only one in the starting 11 that was hindering Torres.

Now Lampard is out Sturridge , Drogba Malouda and we have extremely technical players yet Torres still doesnt get goals

Now tell us why Torres has continued to be a failure in close to 2 yrs at Chelsea?
shut up your mouth and stop arguing against logic
hazard and oscar joined only this season - or were they here in the last 2 seasons? so what's the basis of demanding blood for torres when the team/system/manager/tactics keep changing? he needs time to understand the new recruits - which can only be achieved by more games! it's a tad idiotic to blame torres for what has happened before this season - think before you speak!

His godson Torres has been a complete waste so far and he is still yarning megedefegede. They got Torres all the support any striker could ever wish for

Sold Drogba, Anelka, Kalou (Lukaku)

Benched lampard. Played Mata Oscar Hazard behind him yet the DUD cant still hit water if thrown off a boat
the only good delivery torres got yesterday produced a magnificent save from de gea.....
compare the crisp passes valencia kept laying on van persie's feet to the scraps torres got before his sending off and your useless rants up there would embarrass you!

SPURS 2 -1 CHELSEA(2006)
From 1990, Chelsea went 16 years without losing a league game to Tottenham, their dominance so pronounced that Chelsea fans knew Spurs' ground as 'Three-Point Lane'.
Then, on Bonfire Night 2006, everything changed. Jose Mourinho's Chelsea were beaten 2-1 at White Hart Lane and captain John Terry was sent off by Graham Poll.

Terry's dismissal sparked a furious reaction from Mourinho and his players, who launched a campaign to discredit the referee. Poll explains how the FA's failure to defend him was a major factor in his decision to quit refereeing at the end of that season. Chelsea had drawn a controversial Champions League game at Barcelona a few days earlier and arrived at Tottenham in a bad mood.

It was obvious in the early stages of the game that Jose had been up to his tricks and that his players were going to be difficult to control.

I sent off John Terry for two yellow cards, the second when he hauled down Ledley King. Terry came to see me immediately after the game, the first time in my career any player had done that.

He seemed happy to accept my explanation of the two yellow cards. But the day after the game Ashley Cole accused me of having told Chelsea's players I wanted to 'teach them a lesson' and Terry said I had said one thing to him on the pitch and another in the dressing room after the game.

These two claims were as damaging as they were ridiculous but Brian Barwick (then FA chief executive) and the FA failed to stand up for me and, by extension, failed to stand up for the integrity of referees up and down the country.

A fortnight later Chelsea withdrew all of their allegations against me and Terry was fined £10,000 for what he had claimed. But I was still dismayed at the way the FA had reacted and that dismay contributed to my decision to retire.

The sad thing is that the whole furore overshadowed what was a magnificent performance by Tottenham.
like i said yesterday, chelsea are a useless outfit - this is not their first time of accusing match officials of rubbish - and it is always after a loss! i hope the book gets thrown at them if they withdraw their allegation later.....

debrief08: I have a thread on male domestic abuse and verbal abuse why not go there and share
https://www.nairaland.com/1059020/men-please-talk-verbal-mental
It ran for weeks, you mostly came in, liked, left some nice videos, so i really dont get the anger here
that's the point -
doing it separately produces zilch - have you ever seen a defendant and a claimant situated in different court rooms? everyone should come together - the issue affects both sexes - why the segregation? men would lie on the other thread and women would lie here and then what? i reiterate, if this was designed to be a pity-party thread where woes of tales can be shared then it's achieved that already but if you are all seeking solution, analysing issues and putting a stop to marital abuses in marriages then this method would not cut it!

it's my opinion - you don't have to follow it!

.
what an odious tool - only a nigerian male would put a claimant and a defendant in separate rooms and judge their cases! some of you men are what is wrong with that society!
Thread Title - Debrief and Cotton 101 and those that came out alive. Got a few questions for you.

Did Debrief come out of an Abusive relationship? Yes.
Did Cotton come out of an Abusive Relationship? Yes
Last I checked, THOSE is a determiner for THAT and it has never, ever been GENDER SPECIFIC. So please, please, please how is this not general enough?

Oh because Jenny mentioned two women's names, then it means only women are allowed to share their stories? Please how many men have come on NL to detail the abuse they suffered like these women have done? How is Jenny going to know what name to mention. . .if the mentioning of the names is the issue here, if she does not know who they are?!!
so because men have not come on NL to report abuses, then they have not been abused? the fact that men don't talk about their domestic abuse means it doesn't exist? i can't work this out in my head!

jenny does not need to mention names - she could have just called out all the victims of domestic abuse(men and women) to come and share their stories!

I'm sorry but I have to reiterate my point that thinking this thread is an indictment on all Nigerian men because of a few is wrong and an apology needs to be tendered to the None Abusive Nigerian men.
it is - there's no amount of reiteration that can move my position. both parties need to be heard or encouraged to come out and share their experiences! this is a pity-party thread where tales of woes would be shared and nothing conclusive would be reached. if that is what this thread aimed to achieve from the onset, then goodluck to y'all ..... all that is missing is for you guys to hold hands and sing kumbaya!

ileobatojo: Ok, I'm going to leave you with this example from a website about stages in pregnancy.
So by your reasoning, all people who visit this website for education are either having girls or will have girls at the time of delivery. Or, those who are having boys should totally disregard this information right?
wrong analogy!
i don't think the baby described here blinking her eyes is committing any crime or doing anything repulsive.....but to qualify an abuser by definition with a specific gender is very wrong! don't argue against logic!
Coogar. angry angry

You're derailing this thread. Don't be the proverbial cat let loose among the pigeons. This thread is for victims of abuse to share their experiences, and not about your crusade to champion the cause of "victimized" men.

If you've got a story to share with us, then by all means do so. Else carry your fight elsewhere jor.
and i am saying the tales have been overcooked to vilify men folk! even if it's a thread for victims of marital abuse, we should then swallow the tales by moonlight line, hook and sinker? how can solutions be proffered if the victims don't accept their own faults and put all the blame squarely on their partners? na wa for una o - i am out of here then.......
I am not sure I understand why some see this thread as the vilification of Nigerian men?! undecided

We are talking about men who abuse their wives, that they happen to be Nigerians is just an aside. Again the ABUSIVE part of these men is what is being vilified not their Nigerianess or are we indirectly admitting all Nigerian men are abusive, so talking about a few automatically means talking about the whole? huh

Well if that is what some believe. . .that all Nigerian men are abusive, so talking about some is an indictment on all then it is those people who should be called to order because they are obviously WRONG. There are many, many, many Nigerian men out there who are not beastly to their wives. There are many, many, many men who find these beastly men appalling. Many of the women here on NL are married to such men, many, many, maaaaaaany of the men here on NL are those men.

So thinking this thread is about ALL Nigerian men is a complete insult to these men who would never hurt a female fly let alone their wives and honestly, I think an apology should be tendered by those who have lumped them up with these beasts being discussed.
the logic here is a bit distorted!
setting up this thread is an INSULT to the nigerian men who are not beastly to their partners, it's an insult to the nigerian men who find domestic abuse repulsive, etc.....why not put up a general thread where all the victims(male and female)of domestic abuse can come together and address the issue - by doing this, we can hear from the men and the women at the same time and strike the balance!

you were not defining abusive men - you defined the word "abuser"!
go to the dictionary and see how words like murderer, thief, serial killer, etc are defined. there's no gender-bias in the definition. the "subject" is always "someone" or "a person" not "he/she" like your copy n paste job!

ileobatojo: Lol. Again, an ad hominem at it's best. In fact this is the textbook definition of ad hominem.

You: That means you're saying that the woman must be a saint.
Me: Bwahahaha! grin grin You're funny!

One thing i just understand as a guy is that We are sometimes too aggressive..
speak for yourself....

Let any Nigerian guy come out and confront me that he and his friends have never discussed about disciplining their ladies...
having a measure of control does not connote physical abuse......

That's where it starts from.. It's popular knowledge in the society that ladies ain't easy to tame so they think you have to use

force or aggressiveness to get them to fall in line.

I was shocked at a friend shouting and calling his girl all sort of names just because she forgot the sim pack

he wanted to use for his welcome back request at home...Can you imagine someone been worked up on sch trivial issues??

I can imagine what he had do if they were married....

But most ladies dont watch all these signs....they believe trying to avoid offending him is the ultimate solution

instead of getting him therapy or moving on...Any form of abuse should be spoken against.

I have 5 lovely sisters and i am waiting for the day one punk ass nigga would hit any of them..

but Thank God my sisters are all married to responsible people who value them. EOD!!!
then your duty as their sibling is to advise them to respect their husbands the way they would want to be treated. if they fall out of line, someone out there would hurt them and beat you join.....who you be? grin

Kai coogar, if didn't know you any better here I'd have started vexing, my dear its not always like that o.
You think well educated guys can't abuse a woman? How is a girl supposed to know automatically that the guy she said yes to will behave that way few months into the relationship if he didn't show any signs before? What if the beating as a result of the sms is the first sign of abuse\abuse itself?
No one sees inside another's mind, so don't expect me to know at first glance that the handsome, intelligent and rich dude is a potential or full blown abuser.
this matter is simple then....

since women cannot discern between gentlemen and sadistic tools, i suggest women should only date/marry the men they can physically overpower.....
better still, join karate, taekwondo or boxing classes for self- defence.

ileobatojo: Yes it was. Here's the premise of your post and one of the very first things you said. Now if you can show me where it said in that definition that the woman was a saint, I will withdraw my claim. But don't bother, you won't find any such thing in that definition. If your post was not an ad hominem, I don't know what is.
hahahahaha - you are such a troublesome fellow!
look at the definition and the pronoun used to qualify the abuser....do you get it now? now if the copy n paste says the abuser is male, who would the saint be in this case if not the opposite sex? ileobatojo, i need you to be at your sharpest when sparring with me!

Many people have pointed out that woman can be abusive including myself. There should be mutual respect between two parties. Where have I disputed that?
i disagree - you don't stress it enough!
as much as i think johndoe and richkvnt are clowns on this section, you women gave them the opportunity to say some of the things like cabal n stuff. the general perception here most times is that men are evil and women are disadvantaged - which is far from the truth! your comments would hit the bull's eye if you can be more balanced.....

Here's what I said You don't really want me to go into the role of the word if in sentence construction do you?
if is hypothetical........none of the complainants here married white men so don't even cite such examples - if my aunty had tësticles, she would be my uncle!

ileobatojo: Lol. Your entire post to me was an ad hominem attack from top to bottom. But nice try though
no, it wasn't - i only pointed out how biased your comments were.....

I copied and pasted the post as it was. Once more, are you okay?
next time, improve your copy and paste skills! endeavour it's more balanced. a lot of people come here to read some of the comments and it's imperative we point it out that women can be as abusive(if not more than men).....a woman who verbally abuses her partner to the point of the partner assaulting her physically is as guilty as the husband. there should be mutual respect between the two parties!

Why are you feeling persecuted? Who is talking only to Nigerian men? So if someone comes with an abusive white husband, will we ignore her because her husband is not Nigerian and we are only interested in bashing Nigerian men?
cotton101 and debrief had nigerian husbands, no? all the responses from every poster on this thread were geared towards the actions of those 2 men.....so what are you talking about? which of the women here married a white guy?

That's not a very clever thing to say to be honest and I'm disappointed you are sinking into new lows just to try to prove a dumb point.
i give up......#sigh#
Apply that analogy to the men too, if not moreso.

How many pot bellied Naija guys do we have in Nigerian restaurants (here in London) sweating it out over a bowl of goat leg pepper soup? You gonna tell me that such men don't suffer from gluttony too? Abeg source another form of argument here coogar!
at least, these men are spending their own money - they don't rely on the women to pay their life-bills. i am talking about women who choose men based on the size of their pockets and totally ignoring his other issues........people don't just become beasts overnight! i don't just buy such stories- abeg!

freecocoa: Wow Coogar kilo happen? Take it easy na.
Well from what I understand on this thread, we are not saying(atleast I'm not) that woman are completely without fault.
Its more like No one deserves to be beaten and treated in such manners by their partners, the women on this thread sharing their stories (Debrief especially) has explained what led to the abuse in her own case.
It is not fair to say its their personality and silly choices they made that led to the abuse.
The fact that some abusers have deep psychological issues cannot be over emphasized.
Agreed that it takes two to tango, should my boyfriend beat me black and blue because he saw an sms on my phone of another man telling he loves me, without even waiting to hear my side of the story?
why would your boyfriend beat you because of sms/bbm nonsense if you carried yourself with high esteem, respect and grace? where do you women choose your boyfriends sef? when the good guys are doing the wooing, you ignore them and go for a typical money-miss-road agberos - and when the cookie crumbles we start seeing gnashing of teeth!

ileobatojo: Are you okay? Why are you getting defensive? Are you guilty of abuse or planning to abuse your wife in the future?
ad hominem sniping - what i would expect from a breäst displaying market woman.......

I did not make up that definition and you can always replace woman with man and the quote would still be the same.
exactly my point - if it's the same, why didn't you do the replacement?

It is not even from a Nigerian website, abusers' mentality are the same everywhere so what the heck are you talking about? Who cares if an abuser is Nigerian or otherwise? So if Debrief's hubby was a white man, we would not have the same opinions of the situation? What tosh!
what a daft thing to say....
nigerian women mostly marry nigerian men - so if you are here casting aspersions at the menfolk for being domestic abusers you are directly talking about nigerian men! you women should be more careful when choosing your partners! material wealth and what comes with it seems to be the main priority for most of you nigerian women. if you end up with a werewolf because you ignored the alarm bells - then the blame falls squarely on your shoulders!
What has fried rice and chicken got to do with this?
You saying it's only ladies from poor backgrounds that get abused??
gluttony knows no class - it cuts across...
majority of the aristo chics in naija came from wealthy backgrounds!

chamotex: ^^^^ Watch Fergie drop him for Smalling/Jones in the name of giving them games to boost their fitness.
he would be dropped in some games - rafael and evra in the same team limits our aerial prowess in defending and even attacking. they get aerially dominated especially against teams who love to lump it in the air. jones/smalling can put in some shifts in such games but he's clearly our best right back now.......his desire to get back when he's dispossessed is exemplary.....he makes evra look like the laziest bum in the universe!

ileobatojo: What is Abuse?

Abuse is fundamentally a mentality. It is a mindset of entitlement. The abuser sees himself as entitled. He is the center of the world, and he demands that his victim make him the center of her world. His goal is power and control over others. For him, power and control are his natural right, and he feels quite justified in using whatever means are necessary to obtain that power and control. The abuser is not hampered in these efforts by the pangs of a healthy conscience and indeed often lacks a conscience.

While this mentality of power and control often expresses itself in various forms of physical abuse, it just as frequently employs tactics of verbal, emotional, financial, social, sexual and spiritual abuse. Thus, an abuser may never actually lay a hand on his wife and yet be very actively terrorizing her in incredibly damaging ways.

Abuse in any of its forms destroys the victim's person. Abuse, in the end, is murder.
you are criminally biased!
fücking hell, tone it down a bit so your points would seem balanced. even in your definition of abuse, it is the man that is vilified and the woman is the saint which is far from the truth.......experience has shown women can be as bad as the men in domestic abuse issues so shut up already. i just don't think any man would wake up one day and become a joe fraizer by beating his wife on a daily basis. people who believe such tales by sunlight need their heads checked! women are excellent story tellers.....i remember chaircover propped up like spartacus to defend a woman who reported her husband had beaten her.....on getting there, chaircover was told it was the woman that actually threw a hot cup of coffee on her husband!

all the women coming here to tell porkies - if you bring their partners here to share their stories, we would learn new things the women systematically removed from their tales of woes! it takes two to tango! if you are romantically involved with a grizzly beast - it says something about your own personality and the silly choices you make.....men don't just metamorphosed into beasts - the red flags are always up all the time but the love of fried rice and chicken of our gluttonous nigerian women would not let them see the warning signs......

this witchhunting and the vilification of nigerian men should stop - if we are that demonic, stop marrying us - there are men of other races, pet animals, silverbacks, etc as options!

Ujujoan: Okay granted, he 'was' a great striker. Why else would one of the biggest clubs on EPL buy him for 50mil pounds huh

At a point when Chelsea was on a bender, a lot of us thought Torres would be our savior . . . But alas, we learnt that there are some problems money can't solve. Little David Luiz sure did prove to a better buy!

Initially, we thought it was the pressure. I mean 50mil is no small money. Maybe (just maybe) he's bewildered by how much he's worth and is slacking from the fear . . of course no one expects a 50mil buy to slack for too long . . . But we were patient with him during his goal drought. We gave him time . . . but NOTHING changed!

And then DD left and we said, YES. Now he's got to pick up the slack cos he know he's ALL we've got now (no offence to Daniel S)!

He did recover from his goal-drought, thanks to Roberto DM (I think undecided ) . . . But I'm sure we can all agree that his occasional goals does not quite make up for his constant blunders!

To think he was once rated as one of the best strikers in EPL . . . How did he achieve that?

He plays like a 10-year old, learning how to tackle!

I think it's time Chelsea realize their mistake and buy themselves a REAL striker! FT will be our doom if we don't do something ASAP.

So 50 mil is down the drain . . we win some, we lose some!

Better late than sorry . . .
