I don't want to say that today is messed with regards to my job search but honestly, I feel discouraged. I've been applying for job in schools in my neighbourhood since last week. Some said there are no vacancies while others simply collected my cv with the usual "we'll get back to you". Today I visited another school, the routine has been the same. I'll park my car anywhere around and my kids will wait inside for me; this takes just few minutes. Note: they are not attending summer lessons because we travelled earlier when lesson started.
There was enough space in front of today's school and I parked there as instructed by the gateman. I went in, was told that test held last week but there seem to be vacancy left. After few questions by a three-man panel, I was sent to see the Principal at the secondary annex. While leaving I was advised not to leave my kids outside, so they came into the reception including my 7mths old baby. After a short interview and waiting for LONG over there, i started my written test. Because of the elapsed time while waiting, I got uncomfortable and worried about my kids esp the breastfeeding one. I was still writing when a staff was sent to call my attention that my kids were crying and disturbing. I lost concentration immediately and they said I should go and attend to them that they will get back to me. I have never been this angry with myself for long. I'm sitting here blaming the kids and myself. If I had known a test will be conducted immediately, I would have arranged for them to stay with a relative or friend. Do you people think they will call me back? Sorry for the long story

Relax , I believe everything happens for a purpose. Don't feel discouraged, if its your job they would definitely get back to you.That should not stop you from applying to other schools. Keep the hope alive, one day e go be... and that day is soonest.

pls dont drop ur cv alone, infact drop anything dropable i. e application letter n also photocopy of ur cert., nysc cert, n oda necessary documents. reason bn dt, trust me no b only u go drop cv so u nid to strategize oo. (anoda strategy i learnt on dis thread.)
speaking frm experience i encountered wen i dropped my cv like a month back. i swear d amount of cvs i saw on security man's table on dt day was alarming. wishing you d best.

I actually need a little clarification as to some concepts bothering me as far as teaching is concerned.
1. What is the difference between a school with british based curriculum and nigerian curriculum? (once taught in a school that claimed to be a british based curriculum but saw no difference as compared with other regular schools around)
2. The folkowing attachments to school names such as '"comprehensive college, high school, int'l sch, etc." Do they have any relevance as to how the school operates or its just a figure head title?
3. The general advice on this thread is to search for schools around one's localty, don't you think moving out of one's comfort zone might actually propel huge success?
4. For an individual with degree in education, which should be the next, masters in edu or professional exams.
I appreciate your opinion...always ready to learn till the last breath.

Nice question, those attachments to school names dont have any relevance on how the school operates. As regards to working outside one's comfort zone, I am a strong advocate of that...I believe while working far from your base, you tends to meet different people with different orientation...
When I was teaching in kano state, the orientation of the students I met there is quite different from students down here in Lagos..

If you have the intentions to lecture someday in a higher institution, I will advice you to go for your Masters...
