juncheng: What did you mean by "better at sex" ? How did these organisms develop the mechanism /tools that gave them the edge with respect to reproduction? I used that term to encompass the tools necessary to facilitate reproduction. As I said before, mechanisms are developed through natural selection ie., any genetic mutation that would encourage the transfer of genes would cause any carrier of that mutation to outperform non-carriers. Over successive generations the differences would become more pronounced in terms of population, the carriers would eventually take over. Any further mutation that encourages gene transfer would follow the same process, thereby building on the previous one. |

butterflyl1on: Smh everything seems to be flying over your head.
You are busy talking about the end result. I AM ASKING YOU HOW?
saying natural selection is just making a lot of noise yet saying nothing.
Break this down! Tell us how this processes occurred. Talking about necessity is an elephant in the room.
Assumptions are not realities and the fact that what we have are definite realities we cannot base them on assumptions such as you are talking about.
Even when we take this to the genetic level we know that even the slightest genetic alteration causes either deformities or huge calamities to its host so how did these changes occur and bypass these deformities or are these perfected sexual organs, genitals, chromosomes all deformities?
I want to know the detailed process. Are you kidding me? I just explained how evolution works and related it sexual reproduction for you here. If you do not understand what I've broken this topic down into for you then I suggest a more basic introductory resource for you to learn from. https://www.amazon.com/Evolution-Dummies-Greg-Krukonis/dp/0470117737 |

iamwhat: Can you see you're just concentrating on only one aspect of a whale-like (Very big) question ?
The intelligent arrangement of chromosomes, The physiological differences between the genders, the reproductive organs....... How people in the same environment under the same influence of everything suddenly have different physiological developments. What created Penis and made it compatible with virginal..... and why does female has womb and menstruate and male doesn't, who created it that way..... What created breast and makes it milky at a point just to serve as food to another organism.......
Why don't you answer those questions? You keep asking these because you misunderstand natural selection. All these traits evolve to facilitate sexual reproduction. The motile gamete (sperm) evolved to transfer genetic information while ovum evolved to select the most competitive genes (fastest swimmer). The male produces the sperm while the female produces the ova. Sexual differentiation occurs for the same reason, male peacocks have bright feathers to show females how competitive their genes are, all for that sweet sweet poon. Women's skeletal structure leaves them with a wider pelvic girdle and sacrifices a great deal of upper body strength in order to facilitate the growth of a foetus, all to pass their genes on. The most competitive genes get passed to the next generation, that is what natural selection is. Sex, reproduction, every trait, even human civilization can be explained in the context of natural selection. It's impossible to know when the first sperm cell evolved but comparative analysis, paleontology, and experimentation can create a timeline of events that makes sense when explained in the context of natural selection. |

butterflyl1on: What you just did here is called "attempting to make common that which is so marvellous to watch at work". You still said nothing.
HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? saying that's it's simply over many years of evolutionary processes is you SAYING NOTHING!
HOW? HOW? HOW?
Details are required. You cannot just sweep it under evolution. Is evolution supposed to be a destination or is it to be a process? I want details of this process. Simple. First, we ascertain why sex evolved. I've spoken briefly on it in my first post bit this link delves into mathematical models supporting the evolution of sex https://www.nature.com/scitable/topicpage/sexual-reproduction-and-the-evolution-of-sex-824?_e_pi_=7%2CPAGE_ID10%2C3198044844 Now that we know that sex is beneficial for survival we can bring in natural selection. Organisms better at sex would continue to out number those that are worse than it, and the disparity becomes more pronounced with each generation. Example: For every 5 offspring A can give rise to, B can only bring 2. Assuming that these genes are retained for three generations. Ist gen A= 5, B= 2 2nd gen A= 5*5= 25, B= 2*2= 4 3rd gen A= 5*5*5= 125, B= 2*2*2= 8 In just three generations A now outnumbers B by over 30 to 2. More than 6 times that of the first generation. This means that organisms that are better at sex outperform those that are worse. Natural selection would favour those that have the mechanisms that enable reproduction. This leads to some form of arms race that gives us what we have now. |

iamwhat: I didn't say what you're saying is not correct, it's correct but it didn't answer the question.
Allow me to give you an example: In one of our tests back in secondary school, our biology teacher told us to draw and label plant cell, a colleague drew and label animal cell perfectly. The teacher gave him 1/10 for the neat job and perfect labels, the same I did to you.
No matter how good your answer is, it just didn't answer the questions.
Go back and read the OP's question about the physiology (Virginal, Penis, bread, womb....) of the gender and the intelligence in chromosome distribution and then the reproduction itself; Do you think an unintelligent nature or nothing just came up with something so brilliant, HOW ?
Have you seen the crossbreed of Tiger and Lion, Donkey and Zebra, Horse and Zebra...... Why don't they last, why do they have several health issues and die in no time ? Am not saying they cannot be improved to last longer but definitely it won't come from nature and we are sure the early man wasn't scientifically oriented. It's rather simple, the BIG question OP asked is the origin of sexual reproduction and sex. Once sexual reproduction and its purpose are ascertained, the other things are more like fluff because they are just the specialized mechanisms for efficient sexual reproduction. So,gametes, sex organs, intercourse, are tools which have been selected overtime to facilitate that same gene transfer I talked about in unicellular organisms but adapted for multicellular organisms. If you ask about the evolution of the human eye, I'll have to start with the most primitive forms of sight before I show you the progression from that to the modern human eye. That's because once you understand the necessity of sight to survival along with natural selection, then you'll see that the human eye is just a specialized tool for animals that evolved under the conditions we did. Saying that it occurred by accident is a bit inaccurate because while chance is evolved, these processes have been refined over generations for millions of years. |

butterflyl1on: The focus is on HUMANS be it male or female gender BUT HUMANS and not on other so called "similar processess". Even the so called similar processes are still not explained. You simply sited them as an example and not an explanation.
If you knew anything about sexual reproduction you would know that you have said absolutely NOTHING. Where in the OP was it mentioned that the focus was on humans? Furthermore, anybody with even basic knowledge in this subject should know they asking about the evolution of sexual reproduction in man only is flawed reasoning since sexual reproduction evolved a long time before man did. Third, it would be completely asinine to try to answer this question without mentioning the earliest related processes for comparative analysis. If you were looking for the exact time and date with longitude and latitude of when sexual reproduction started then you do not know anything about evolution. |

iamwhat: I manage to score you 1/100 because you mentioned Sex; Please answer the question and stop perambulating. You obviously didn't understand what I wrote. I detailed similar processes to sexual reproduction that existed before it. If you know anything about the subject at all, you'll see how that fact shows that gametes in sexual reproduction are just a relatively modern vehicle for gene transfer. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Do Atheists Desist From Answering This Question ? by CoolUsername: 3:49pm On Feb 23, 2018 |
Sexual reproduction helps to improve variation of genes in organisms, it also reduces the occurrence of deleterious mutations.
There are unicellular organisms that practice conjugation without any need for an embryo or eggs. While not sexual reproduction strictly speaking, it still involves transfer of genetic information between two individuals.
In fact, all forms of horizontal gene transfer can be seen as sister processes to vertical gene transfer (parent to offspring) and most likely the precursor. |
Christianity Etc › Re: What Is The Source Of Morality by CoolUsername: 8:41pm On Feb 22, 2018 |
jamescross: like i said interaction breeds morality, but does that really answer the question of the source of morality
if morality means right values, and from your post i sense you support evolution has the source of our morals. evolution is about survival, creation is about purpose.
another question is why do we have right values, why do we need morals? is it because we need to respect what we depend on. if what we depend on changes so does our morals.
it's all still down to what a man believes his source is, that is where he gets it. Like I said, the source of our values comes from the need to survive - at least empirically speaking - which we need to sustain our society. Society is always changing - due to interactions with foreigners, advances in tech, etc - and morality follows suit. Morality then influences society in turn, causing a feedback loop. Won't you agree that morality I'd different across different times and places? If so, then isn't that consistent with the view that humanity is the source of its own morality? |
Christianity Etc › Re: What Is The Source Of Morality by CoolUsername: 4:07pm On Feb 22, 2018 |
jamescross: our reasoning is based on what we are taught, religion is basically traditions of men as claim to have gotten it from their gods.
i pick neither, why! lemme explain. it's also connects to where we believe our origin is from i.e who first taught us. here's a question can an isolated(without interaction) human, learn without being taught? so did our reasoning self evolve or where we shown by an all knowing God. our morals is based on what we value.
what made man gave man his values. Every social animal has positive actions that are rewarded and negative actions that are shunned. Lion prides, wolf packs, even lobsters (according to clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson) show display some form code. Man is no different, hunter-gatherer societies of cavemen had a code of conduct, as society grew more complex, morality also evolved. In summary, morality is driven by the need to survive when living in a group. |

Seun: Educate everybody about consent: Men (and women) should be taught to immediately stop doing whatever they are doing when someone says no. Women (and men) should always say yes when they mean yes, and no when they mean no, so that no rapist would have any excuse. As citizens, we must stop behaviours that blur the line between consensual sex, which is awesome, and rape, which is a very serious crime.
The government should convict rapists under the existing laws. 99% of rapists will not rape if they know that they will be imprisoned for it.
Since the government is slow, companies can do what they are doing in USA, which is to fire employees who are found to have raped someone. You're quite right, but a line has to be drawn somewhere, especially with your last point. We don't want to fall into the same errors of the west where men (never women) lose their livelihoods, and are kicked out of college just because of an unverified accusation on Twitter. |
