Jolie also released a statement addressing the divorce:
"This decision was made for the health of the family," the actress' attorney said. "She will not be commenting at this time, and asks that the family be given their privacy during this difficult time."
Jolie filed for divorce from the actor, 52, on Monday after just two years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences. They dated for 10 years before finally tying the knot due to pressure from their kids.

Over 20 houses have been burnt down and several cars were razed in New Netim when armed youths from Odukpani Qua invaded their neighbours in morning of Monday, September 19.

It was gathered that the house of the father of the governor’s chief scribe, Christian Ita, Ntufam Raphael Okpa Ita, New Netim Village Head, was also torched and he had to flee for his life. Investigations reveal that the two communities had disputes in the past over land.
“On Monday at about 1am, the people of Odukpani Qua Town invaded New Netim. They hired cultists and invaded the village yesterday. They left about 20 houses razed. They burnt several cars also. One boy has been killed. Two others were shot but are alive. The origin of the problem is land. There is a dispute over ownership of land and the thing went to court and New Netim won in court. So the Odukpani Qua people are not happy. This is the second time in about ten months. They did something like this in December. “On the 24th of August this year, New Netim Council wrote to security chiefs alerting them to credible information they had that there was plan to attack them. The security chiefs called the two communities together and of course the Odukpani Qua people denied that there was such a plan. But look at what has happened now,”an indigene of New Netim said. Commenting on the development,State Security Adviser, Mr Jude Ngaji, said: “It started at about 1am to 1.30am and immediately we got the call, we deployed security men there, but before the men got there, the havoc had already

Some Benin palace chiefs have disagreed over the purported endorsement of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, for the state’s governorship election scheduled for September 28. According to a report by Punch newspaper, a group of chiefs chiefs belonging to the Egha Evbo’ Nore (town chiefs) had last week adopted the PDP candidate at the residence of the Esama of Benin, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion. But another group of palace chiefs, led by the Obazelu of Benin, Chief Osaro Idah, condemned the action, asked that the palace should not be dragged into partisan

He started going from village to village to meet the elders to vote for the PDP. “We have been looking for him to face the full wrath of the law because he is not a chief. STRONG indications emerged, yesterday in Abuja, that the three-member Election Appeal Committee appointed by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to look into complaints that trailed the September 3, Ondo State governorship election primaries is under pressure to recommend a cancellation of the exercise.

This came as a former chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP and former commissioner for Health in Ondo state, Dr Dare Bada, yesterday, emerged as the governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) An NWC official, who requested not to be named as he was not authorized to speak on the matter, stated that although the party has never cancelled any of its primary elections in the past, certain forces are now hell-bent on creating an antecedent. Jessica Beer, a 19-year-old female student of Dyege Memorial College, Akpehe, Makurdi, Benue State, on Wednesday committed suicide after her boyfriend, identified simply as Labi, impregnated another girl and
subsequently dumped her.
A close friend of the victim, who did not want her name mentioned, told Punch that Beer killed herself because she loved Labi and could not accept that she had been jilted.

The friend further said her late friend believed that after impregnating another girl, her future plans with Labi was in jeopardy.

The source said when she went to Beer’s residence, she met the victim on the floor, vomiting blood.

She said:
“My friend had brought a sharp knife the day before the incident to my house. She said I should follow her to her boyfriend’s house, threatening to deal with him. But I advised her not to take the law into her own hands.
“When I went to see her the next day, I met Jessica (Beer) on the floor, vomiting blood and I quickly raised the alarm.”
Beer was rushed to a private hospital, Yiman Hospital, in the area, where doctors certified her dead.

The Chief Nurse at the hospital, Mrs. Atser Terkimbi, told Punch that when the victim was brought to the hospital, she was foaming at the mouth as a result of the substance she took, which later claimed her life.

When their correspondent visited the victim’s school, many of her classmates were seen crying, while some teachers in the school discussed the incident.

One of the victim’s classmates told our correspondent in tears that she was shocked that Beer would “intentionally kill herself because of a man.”

Another classmate said:
“I was told that the boyfriend (Labi) is a cultist and an armed robber, who had refused to further his education. Why should my friend commit suicide over such a person? I can never do such a thing.”
The proprietress of the school, Mrs. Mercy Dyege, said she was surprised when the news of the suicide was broken to her.

According to Dyege, the news of Jessica suicide filtered into the school while the students were on the assembly ground.

She described the action of the student as barbaric and ungodly, saying she always advised students to focus on their studies and devote their time to God rather than engaging in carnal issues.

Dyege said,
‘’My teachers always pray with the students and teach them the words of God, especially the female students. I also told the girls that when they put their minds on their studies and complete their education, men will look for them. This kind of incident has never occurred in my school and I condemn this behaviour in strong terms.”
One of Beer’s teachers, Mr. Timothy Tyoyange, described her as an average student, who was ready to learn from both teachers and her fellow students.

Tyoyange said,
“Jessica (Beer) was a beautiful young lady and in our last prize giving and graduation day, she contested for Miss Dyege, organised by the college, and won the crown. So, she killed herself at a time she was about to fulfill her dream in life. May her soul rest in peace’’.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident.

“Investigation has commenced. I advise other students to desist from such acts,” he added.

The pope’s early service on Wednesday was held in the chapel at St Martha’s, the boarding house where Francis stays and where a photo of the late priest was set upon the altar. “Today the Church has more Christian martyrs than in the first centuries,” he said in his sermon which was delivered in Italian but translated into French for the visitors. Christians were currently suffering persecution through being “imprisoned, tortured and killed because they refuse to deny Jesus,” he said. “This cruelty which demands apostasy is, let us say it, satanic,” he said. Apostasy is the renunciation of one’s religious beliefs. Earlier this month, Francis met with French President Francois Hollande over the attack, and on September 24, he will meet relatives of the 86 people killed in a jihadist truck attack in the Riviera resort of Nice on July 14.

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari, like every other leader, has a style of governance that is peculiar, and this style is admired by some, while others loathed it. It is the style of talking to Nigerians about national burning issues, more when he travels out of the country than when he is in the country. This style was applied again few weeks ago in faraway Nairobi, Kenya, about how to deal with the Niger Delta militants. The President warned the Niger Delta agitators to move fast to the dialogue table and succumb quickly in accepting whatever is offered them by government, else he would give them “the Boko Haram treatment”. In other words, he was already running out of patience with them and was fully prepared to bomb them out of existence, like he did with the Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East of Nigeria. President Buhari is a no-nonsense man in character by all purposes and intents. In all things, the old soldiering habit in him makes him speak less but act much. He could destroy. He could dis-organise. He could dis-orientate the camp of the “enemy”. He could shoot to kill if the need arises. It is all part of his training as a military man. Such a man must be dreaded at all times. This was the message he put across to the Niger Delta Avengers. Ditto every agitator with whatever claim of legitimacy from the geographical Niger Delta region of the country, or so he believed. Of course, the President would have “genuine and legitimate” reason to issue that threat. He is the Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces and President and in that capacity; all machineries of the Nigerian State are concentrated under his command – which includes machineries of destruction and coercion. To exercise this power, most importantly in the person of Buhari’s character, recognition of other tiers of government; like the Judiciary and Legislature, and living in obedience to the checks and balances that emanate from them [the judiciary and legislature] may be non-existent. In Buhari, the tendency of absolutism is always an attractive temptation. Any one in doubt can go and check out previous court orders and Buhari’s reaction to them. The question remains however, if the President was right by comparing the Niger Delta issue to that of Boko Haram in drawing up his conclusion. It is my candid submission that both the Niger Delta challenge and the Boko Haram of the North/East issue are not on the same template.

The Nigerian Army on Wednesday said that troops fighting to rid the North East of remnants of Boko Haram terrorists have arrested one of the group’s wanted Commanders. This disclosure was made in a statement from Army headquarters signed by Col Sani Usman in Abuja.

It reads, “The Boko Haram suspect on the wanted list number 105, Muhammed Bulama, has been arrested by troops on Tuesday 6th July 2016 in Yobe State. “Bulama was arrested along side 2 other suspected Boko Haram terrorists; Ardo Abba Muhammed (elder brother to Bulama as claimed) and Muhammadu Kaigama, in Azare community, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, with the help of the local vigilantes in the town.
“They were arrested riding on horseback and bicycle shepherding some sheep towards market. “During preliminary investigation, the suspected terrorist personally confirmed his photograph on the wanted list and further revealed that he specialized on rearing animals for the terrorist group. “He further confessed that they came to the village to sell the animals as they had ran out of cash in their hideout and would also get some food items back to for the upcoming Sallah festivity.”

Lionel Messi has finally revealed why he dramatically switched his look and bleached his hair this summer.

The Barcelona star was first spotted with his new hair do in late July, turning heads with a platinum blonde look after his partner Antonella Roccuzzo posted an Instagram picture of the transformed star.

And after returning to his home country and appearing on Argentine television, Messi addressed the question of why he’d decided to ditch his usual brown locks.

“I made a change to start from zero,” he said.

Harrowing images of child victims of ‘napalm bombs’ have emerged after suspected government warplanes carried out several airstrikes in Syria's Hama province on Thursday.
A large number of children injured by incendiary bombs were taken to the Syrian-American Medical Society hospital in Hama, president of the aid group Dr. Zaher Sahloul said.
One of the shocking photographs shows a young boy sat upright on a hospital bed with horrific burns. His hair has been singed and his clothes have been cut away from his body.

Mr Muhammad Bello, the FCT minister has approved the review of the 2016/2017 academic calendar for all primary and secondary schools in the territory.


Bello made the disclosure in a statement made on Wednesday, August 31.

The statement was signed by Anthony Ogunleye, an assistant director and head of information (Education Secretariat).

According to the statement, the review affects all public and private schools in the FCT.

It said that First Term would begin on Sunday, September 18, 2016 (for boarding schools) and Monday, September 19, 2016, (for day schools) and end on Friday, December 17, 2016.

Similarly, Second Term would start on Sunday, January 9, 2017, and terminate on Friday, March 31, 2017, while Third Term begins on Sunday, April 23, 2017 and ends on Friday, July 21, 2017.

The statement directed all schools to take note of the review and comply accordingly.

NAN reports that FCT schools were hitherto scheduled to resume on Sept. 4, 2016, for boarding schools and Monday, Sept. 5, 2016, for day schools.

According to the statement, the Eid el Kabir celebrations coming up in the second week of September necessitated the review of the First Term resumption date.
