FashionWoman Who Wants To Be Fake Spends £100,000 On Surgery and designer vagina by Cornerstone99(op): 11:09am On Jul 15, 2016
Star has had two boob jobs, a nose job, lip fillers and a designer vagina
Began changing her looks because she didn't want to look like her mother
She appeared on E! show Botched where she asked for another boob job

A woman, who has spent over £100,000 on cosmetic procedures including a 'designer vagina', says she wants to be 'as fake as possible'.
The British woman, named only as Star, has had two boob jobs to take her bust from a 32A to a 32E, a nose job, liposuction on her legs, Botox injections and lip fillers.
She flew to LA to meet doctors on E! reality programme Botched to ask for another breast enlargement operation.

Star said that she began changing her looks because she did not want to look like her mother after a 'horrible childhood'.
'I'm here about my breasts and my nose and I want to be as fake as possible,' she said. 'I hope they can help me.'

'I hate natural. Everything about me is fake, I love it,' she added, explaining that she has lip fillers every three months to maintain her plump pout.
She also told doctors that she had a 'designer vagina'. 'Basically they cut the labia, just to like make it look perfect looking,' she explained.

Star told doctors Terry Dubrow and Paul Nassif that she wanted to have another operation on her breasts to make them larger, as well as corrective surgery on her nose to stop it from 'dripping'.
But doctors refuse to give her another boob job, saying that it could lead to a 'major complication'.
Dr Nassif added that in order to help her breathe better they would have to make her nose larger.
Star refused to have the operation on that basis, admitting that the outcome of the consultation had been 'disappointing'.
She said she would travel to Poland to find doctors who were willing to help her.

Politics“don’t Exaggerate My Sins,” Nigeria’s Most Controversial Police Officer, AIG Mbu by Cornerstone99(op): 10:36am On Jul 15, 2016
Perhaps Nigeria’s most controversial police officer of the modern era, Joseph Mbu, on Saturday formally bowed out of the force after 31 years in service, with an appeal to the Nigerian media not to exaggerate his “sins” and those of his colleagues.
Officers and men of the police bided Mr. Mbu goodbye at a stepping-down ceremony at the Police Staff College, Jos.
The assistant inspector-general of police, who enrolled into the force in 1985, was commandant of the college until he was suddenly retired along with 20 other colleagues on July 1.
At the ceremony, Mr. Mbu described his service years as fulfilling and urged men and officers still in service to always eschew ‘eye service’ in the discharge of their duties.
Mr. Mbu himself is believed to have engaged in excessive ‘eye service’ to please the Goodluck Jonathan administration during his tenures as police commissioner in Rivers and Abuja, and assistant inspector-general in charge of Zone 2, Lagos.
“I am privileged as a police officer to head various formations and commands, including the political capital, Abuja, and the economic capital, Lagos,” he said.
“Other formations and commands I headed as commissioner of police include the Directorate of Police Education, Mobile Force, Oyo, Rivers and the FCT.
“I was also the Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone 7, Abuja, Zone 2, Lagos and also the Elite College, the highest Police institution in Nigeria.”

He then called on the media not to overflog the alleged “sins” of officers and men of the police in the course of duty, but rather to seek and understand their peculiar circumstances and work as partners with them to ensure peace and sanity in the country.
Mr. Mbu, who once described himself as a “radical rebel” and a “lion”, left the force without achieving his ambition of becoming Nigeria’s inspector-general of police, having told officers and men of the Ogun State Police Command on February 12, 2015 that he was working hard to get to the top of the police hierarchy.
At the Jos event, he was sober, and perhaps remorseful. He did not roar like a lion or sound boastful, violent or dictatorial. Rather, he spoke gently, and penitently.
In the past three years, Mr. Mbu had gained notoriety as a brutal, partisan and medieval police officer who had no regard for professionalism and human rights.
The retired AIG bounced to national prominence in 2013 shortly after he was posted to Rivers as police commissioner. Rotimi Amaechi, the governor of the state at the time, soon accused him of partisanship, saying he had taken sides with Patience Jonathan and her husband, who were fighting him.
At a point, Mr. Amaechi petitioned the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), accusing Mr. Mbu of orchestrating a “grave and deteriorating human rights situation” in the state, and requesting the commission to use its “legal power and competencies” to salvage the strategic security formation infrastructures and networks in the state allegedly compromised by Mr. Mbu through his “pattern of actions and utterances.”
Mr. Mbu, however denied victimising the governor. He described Mr. Amaechi as a power-hungry dictator who hated him because he refused to be subservient to him.
Mr. Mbu and Mr. Amaechi remained estranged until he (Mbu) was moved to Abuja as commissioner.
While in the nation’s capital, the police officer recalled his time in Rivers with relish, describing himself as a lion who succeeded in taming Mr. Amaechi, a leopard.
The then Rivers governor shot back describing the cop as “a puppet who completely lacked the steel and strength of character of a lion, and is rather a shameless, corrupt puppet and toothless attack dog of a woman.”
In Abuja, controversies continued to swirl around the police officer.
In June 2014, the #BringBackOurGirls campaign group sued him after he announced a ban on their protests in the Nigerian capital.
The group has been holding daily sit-ins since May 2014 to demand that government does more to free the over 250 girls kidnapped by Boko Haram from the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, in April 2014. But Mr. Mbu moved to halt the daily peaceful gathering.
In October that year, Justice S.E Aladetoyinbo of an Abuja High Court ruled that the police did not have the right to ban protests, saying while citizens were mandated to notify security agencies before protesting, they were not obliged to obtain permission from the police to stage protests.

But shortly after that case was resolved, Mr. Mbu courted controversy again. He ordered that a journalist with the African Independent Television, Amaechi Anaekwe, be detained for describing him as controversial on a TV programme. The journalist was only released after the police headquarters compelled Mr. Mbu to do so.
While several Nigerians, who considered him barbaric and an embarrassment to the police, continued to call for his retirement from the police, the Goodluck Jonathan government rewarded him with promotion to the rank of AIG and deployed him to Lagos as AIG in charge of Zone 2.
While in Lagos, Mr. Mbu continued to attract controversy to himself like bee to honey.
On January 15, 2015, Mr. Mbu threatened to bring down any community where the killing of a police officer takes place.
“Honestly, any policeman who is killed by any community in my zone, I will bring that village down, we have to rise against the killing of policemen,” he said.
About a month later, on February 12, 2015, the AIG said he would order the killing of 20 civilians for any police officer killed during the 2015 elections.
That threat sparked anger across the land, with the Afenifere Renewal Group demanding his redeployment from Lagos, and a lawyer, Tope Alabi, asking a Federal High Court in Lagos to strip Mr. Mbu of his police rank and declare his office vacant.
Months before then, Nigeria’s main labour union, the Nigerian Labour Congress, had described Mr. Mbu as a serial embarrassment to the police.
“He does not seem to represent the mainstream 21st century police if his routine primitive, partisan and primordial outbursts are anything to go by,” the NLC had said in a statement by its General Secretary, Peter Ozo-Eson.
“He is a serial embarrassment to the Police Force we need. The Police Force we need is the one that is concerned with public good, law, order and justice. We doubt Mr Mbu is in the right company.”

All however went quiet at Mr. Mbu’s end after his major backer, Mr. Jonathan, lost the 2015 presidential election and he (the AIG) was redeployed to the police college in Jos.

RomanceHow Controversial Is It To Kiss Your Child On The Lips? by Cornerstone99(op): 2:42pm On Jul 14, 2016
This picture of Victoria Beckham kissing her daughter Harper on the lips has already been liked more than half a million times. But there has also been a backlash against it. Why?

No, it's not the matching sunglasses that people are discussing. It's a mother giving her five-year-old daughter a birthday kiss - on the lips. "Gorgeous picture," writes one person. "Beautiful picture! Shows the love between mother and daughter," posts another, echoing the sentiments of most people.
But a quick glance at the comments beneath Victoria Beckham's Instagram post indicates that not everyone sees it the same way. "It's nice but you're not supposed to kiss you're children on the lips. I'm not trying to be rude but it's true," comments one detractor. Another wrote: "Not a fan of kissing my kids on the lips..That's just me."
While these comments, and others like them, stop of short of full-on criticism of the fashion designer's actions, they express a vague sense of unease about the image - an unease that has, in turn, caused consternation among others.

BBC Trending consulted the social etiquette expert, Liz Brewer. She believes that while kissing a son or daughter on the lips is an unusual practice it should still be a parent's choice as to whether they consider it appropriate or not.
"Normally with a member of your family you don't kiss on the lips unless it's your husband," she said. "With children, I wouldn't have thought it's a particularly good habit to get into but it's her child and she's at liberty to do what she thinks is best."
"I would be uncomfortable doing that and I think most people would be. If she feels it's appropriate, so be it. I wouldn't say it sets a particularly good example."
It's an issue which has caused discomfort before."I find it a bit icky," says one contributor on a Mumsnet discussion thread. "It's only weird if you use tongues," responds another.
This is not the first parent-child picture this year to stir controversy. This image of a father holding his sick son in the shower drew negative and positive reactions with some claiming it is inappropriate at best and at worst has undertones of paedophilia.

PoliticsIf I Were To Do It Again, I Will Vote Buhari by Cornerstone99(op): 2:23pm On Jul 14, 2016
I am aware some people may not be comfortable with my title, but I need to share my perspectives nonetheless. Hear me and hear me well: If I were to do it again, I will vote Buhari. I have few regrets in my life, one of them is not voting for Muhammadu Buhari in 2011.

Why? I was beclouded by ethnic ambitions to vote a shoeless person who expects me to get him shoes by voting him!

The reason I voted Buhari was simple: I do not want to vote Goodluck Jonathan a second time. Mark you; I don’t regret voting for him in 2011. He was the best candidate. But in 2015, the demands and skills required are different. I have to be realistic and I am sure I took my decisions based on every assumptions of rationality!

Voting Jonathan on March 28, 2015 would mean I am deliberately promoting him beyond his level of existing competency, a reversal of the management theory known as Peter’s Principle where managers stop being promoted when they have risen to their level of incompetence. Jonathan was just at that point. This is why I have always maintained that last year’s presidential election more than just a rejection of Jonathan but of saving our country from the brink of total collapse.

For those wondering how I arrived at the conclusion that Jonathan is incompetent, check his records in the fight against insurgency. Our army became so demoralized that a ragtag team of 18 Boko Haram members arriving on seven motorcycles had our soldiers fleeing, ahead of civilians, as it happened in Mubi before the town fell to the sect. I can’t even talk about Baga and the sadness of the massacre coupled with the presidential silence on the matter, especially when he couldn’t wait to express ‘grief’ at 17 people killed in France. Chibok girls were kidnapped and he has no clue as to the direction of whom to believe. My goodness!

Need I ask: How many fuel subsidy thieves have been prosecuted since the scam was revealed in 2012? If my memory serves me right, how does Jonathan rank in managing the economy? What was the exchange rate of the Naira when he came to power? What was it before he left? What was the pump price of petrol when he came to power? What was it before his uncelebrated end? What has become of our external reserves? The Nigeria became the biggest economy in Africa thanks to “Goodluck” Jonathan, not because of Ebele Jonathan!

Enter General Buhari. Since he was elected President, Buhari’s professional critics have settled into their new roles as opposition. Not wanting to be classified as “failures” after their “hero” last the presidential election, President Muhammadu Buhari’s opponents or better still critics appear to be cruising off with an early lead. They “regret” for those of us who voted and supported Buhari in the last election.

They are now in the “Didn’t I Tell You?” mode. They appear to cry more than the rest of us these days on social media. At the comfort of their mansions built from syphoned public money, they give crumbs to some spin doctors to write on why the economy (they crumbled) is now crumbling. Some of them, having no shame, will even go as far as China to manifest symptoms of madness. Good enough we tolerate these madness at home, but what happens when this goes as far as the market place?

Watching from a far, I have come to realize that Buhari’s critics can fall under any of the following categories: First, are the career Jonathanians or Wailing Wailers (apologies to Femi Adesina) as they are now popularly known. Leading this pack is our dear Femi Aribisala. In fact one of these people had openly written that he will not accept Buhari as his President. These people were so sure that their boss or hero will win no matter the costs. They “prophesized” that Buhari will never “smell” Aso Rock. In fact, Aribisala once wrote under the title: How To Lose Presidential Election Four Times in one of his columns stating his reasons why Buhari would lose the fourth time. If wishes were horses, they say, men will ride. How time flies. Anyways, they are foremost among Buhari’s critics!

Not all Buhari’s critics are pro-Jonathan as many may think though it is very difficult to vouch for this distinction. We can have a second group as those having issues either personally with Buhari himself or his party the All Progressives Congress (APC). This group accommodates people like a former Governor of old Kaduna state Alhaji Abdulkadir Balarabe Musa and a renowned writer Okey Ndibe.

One really cannot explain Balarabe Musa’s issues with Buhari considering the fact that they are from the same state, Katsina. He was noted to have criticized President Jonathan vociferously at some points and I am not aware he has rescinded on his opinion about Jonathan. His criticisms of President Buhari is what one finds hard to explain, other than the fact that he may probably know something about Buhari (both of whom come from the same state) that is not to public knowledge. On the other hand, Okey Ndibe’s case can be because he had issues at some point with the way the APC was been run. I am not sure Ndibe will be your first choice of a Jonathanian or GEJite. Either way they constitute a pack of their own.

The third group is perhaps the most reckless. They are nothing but tribal pirates, ethnic buccaneers and religious Vikings. In this group, we boldly include Biafran agitators and their sponsors. They are myopic in views; tactless in approach and reckless in criticisms. On the one hand they urged their “people” not to vote in the election on the other hand they want Jonathan to win in an election they forced their people not to vote. I find it difficult to reconcile these contrasting objectives. More confused was I when I knew that former President Jonathan is Ijaw, a tribe that proudly supported the Federal Army during the Nigerian Civil War. It was only Radio Biafra (a source of dissemination of slanderous messages and propaganda) that broadcast the news that President Buhari authorized the bombarding of “Biafran territories”, by which they mean Cross Rivers and Akwa Ibom. While they told their viewers that “Igbos are not Nigerians”, one is left to wonder at what point did the Efiks, Ibibios, Orons, etc., (which they also claim as part of “Biafran territories”) became Igbos.

Apart from this pirate radio which, I later knew, broadcasts from London, no other credible news medium reported the “bombardment”!

The fourth group can be neglected as mere “professional” critics, wanting no more than mere attention or patronage. Some of them may have good intentions you never can tell!

Now that we have analyzed Buhari’s critics and their intentions, I guess the time has come for us to give them a direct replies to the issues they raised.

We voted Buhari, not to magically solve the problems created for more than 16 years of misrule, but to help us keep the goats far away from the yams. If he is doing this job (as we all agree he is doing), I wish to disappoint again that I will vote Buhari again if I have to!

10 Steps to Setting Effective Career Development Goals

When setting Career Development goals, it’s important to clearly define your goals as well as the steps necessary to achieve each and every one. By taking the time to set effective career development goals, you can measure progress and track yourself getting closer and closer to the career you have envisioned for yourself. This will not only keep you motivated, it will also help you feel more self-confident along the way.

The following are some tips for setting effective goals:

1. Be positive. Frame your goal in light of something you want to obtain, rather than in terms of something you want to avoid. For example, set the goal of improving your writing skills in order to start a career as a blogger working from home as opposed to not getting stuck behind a desk at a dead-end job at a large corporation.

2. Set realistic goals that you can achieve and that are in your own control. Make sure your abilities and skills are compatible with your long-term goals.

3. Prioritize. Put your goals in order so that you know which ones to focus on first. This will help you concentrate on one task at a time and keep from feeling overwhelmed.

4. Write your goals down and post them various places so that you will visually be reminded and motivated to achieve them.

5. Be specific. One might say, "I want a better job." What does that mean? Is that a job in your current industry or a new profession? What steps must you take to achieve that goal?

6. Tie an action to each goal. If your goal is to learn more about a chosen field, then the action tied to that goal might be to research online career courses, training opportunities, attending a career fair, shadowing a professional, etc.

7. Break down your goals into smaller tasks. You will feel successful when you accomplish each task and then feel motivated to continue.

8. Make your steps measurable. When you set a goal you must include a time frame for achieving your end goal. You should also specify timelines for each step along the way. For example you can determine “I want to have completed my first online course in 9 months and my internship in 18 months.”

9. Be reasonable. Are your goals reachable within your time frame? Be reasonable - don't set yourself up to fail.

10. Be flexible. Occasionally you will encounter obstacles to completing your goals. Don’t give up; just modify your goals accordingly. However, also recognize that if a goal stops being important to you, it is okay to cross that one off the list. This frees you to move on and pursue only the opportunities that are most important to you.

Palmchat has online users who can who can help you with your career goal.

Wales are preparing for the biggest game in their history when they play Portugal in Lyon on Wednesday for a place in the final of Euro 2016.

Chris Coleman's side have already enjoyed a memorable run to reach their first semi-final at their only major tournament since 1958.

England are the only British team to have reached the final of a World Cup or European Championship, 50 years ago.

"We'll be the underdogs, but we believe in each other," said manager Coleman.

Jonathan Ford, chairman of the Football Association of Wales, told BBC Sport: "It is history in the making, it's a dream come true.

"These players will run through brick walls for us. This has been a fantastic demonstration of team spirit, team morale, teamwork.

"Sport and culture are the two things that really help us define Wales and the Welsh people."

More than half of Wales' population of three million are expected to watch their country take on regular European semi-finalists Portugal - eclipsing the national television record for a sporting event, which was only set on Friday for their 3-1 quarter-final victory over Belgium.

The Prince of Wales sent the team a "huge good luck" message, saying: "I'm sure they have got a very good chance of beating Portugal. Everyone here will be keeping their fingers crossed."

Wales ready for the 'game of their lives' as they look to create history against Belgium

As Wales players tried to avoid causing too many divots during their walkabout on the patchwork pitch at Lille's Stade Pierre-Mauroy, a few placed video-calls to loved ones.
Neil Taylor pulled faces at his young children, Ashley Williams circled the camera on his phone to show those on the other end the venue that will this evening stage the most significant game in Wales' history.
Before heading back down the tunnel, the whole squad united in a huge arc to get a photograph stored as memento. But this was not a grand farewell to France, no last act of tourists about to head home.
Chris Coleman's side have already surpassed expectations yet there remains a hard resolve to extend this journey, to create more moments worthy of capturing through a lens.
It was slightly different the last time Wales reached a quarter-final on their only other appearance at a major tournament. Monochrome pictures show their game against Brazil from the 1958 World Cup in Sweden, decided by a 17-year-old Pele.
Wales were shorn of John Charles for the encounter after the great player sustained injury in the previous round against Hungary through targeted tactics. Coleman touched upon that, revealing Cliff Jones, the wing wizard of that era, had visited the squad before the Euros to share his memories.

'We were talking about the experiences they had,' said Coleman. 'When those players arrived back in Swansea off the train and they were asked if they'd been on holiday because nobody knew about the World Cup.
'Obviously it is a lot different nowadays, but I am quite sure it meant the same to them as us. I don't need to ham this game up, we know what's at stake. It's a positive pressure we've earned. We've experienced the other pressure, which is tougher.'
Just as 58 years ago, health diagnoses have underpinned the build-up. For Wales, Ashley Williams declared himself fit after a sustaining a shoulder injury against Northern Ireland, but Belgium were dealt a blow with Jan Vertonghen twisting his ankle with the last touch of training on Thursday morning.

'I blew the whistle to stop the session and he went down as he controlled the ball,' said manager Marc Wilmots on the injury which a scan later confirmed will lay up Vertonghen for six to eight weeks. 'He has torn ligaments. It is a sporting tragedy. Fate decided that a movement he has done 10,000 times means he is out for the remainder of the tournament.'
There was an echo of Glenn McGrath's untimely injury from the 2005 Ashes in the circumstances and Wales will hope the impact is as meaningful. Wilmots has to call upon left-back Jordan Lukaku, the 21-year-old who has just four caps to his name, with Jason Denayer, also 21 and with seven caps, already in for the suspended Thomas Vermaelen at centre-back.
Vertonghen and Vermaelen have 138 caps between them and you can imagine Gareth Bale savouring the opportunity to test the inexperienced international defence in their place.

Bale has already revelled in calling Wales Belgium's 'bogey team' based on three unbeaten matches in a row and victory from the last encounter a year ago. Wilmots refuted that narrative. 'They are by no means a bête noir,' he said. 'They are a tricky side, they scrap and have two or three players who can go anywhere and that's dangerous.'
A sound summation, but there was a misstep when Wilmots claimed James Collins — without any minutes in France — had operated as a libero in Wales' last game, presumably getting confused with Williams.
Coleman was also up for some tactical talk, perhaps irked that his side have been characterised predominantly as resolute. 'They're deemed an offensive team but if you look at the facts, they've scored eight goals,' he said. 'We're deemed a defensive team and we've scored seven. Five of their goals have come from counter-attacks, two from set plays, and one from open play.

'They'll play the way they play: imagination, pace and power. But we'll play the way we play. When it is time to defend we'll do it for our lives, and when it is time to attack we will attack with our lives. If we do that Belgium will know they will be in for a hell of a game.'
Eden Hazard has shaken off a thigh complaint to feature and conceded his side will have their work cut out. 'We didn't create too many chances against Wales in recent times,' he said. 'They have a large defensive block, five at the back, and it is difficult to displace. And they have a superstar up front.'
As he did in Cardiff last June, Bale is capable of deciding this game. That would mean a semi-final date in Lyon on Wednesday and more messages home. Coleman has been speaking to his mum and sisters back in Swansea.

Eden Hazard has shaken off a thigh complaint to feature and conceded his side will have their work cut out. 'We didn't create too many chances against Wales in recent times,' he said. How to Talk to a Beautiful Woman

[Thanks to reader and Fierce Gentleman Chris Behrens for submitting this guest post! – Andrew]

We’ve all been there in the moment – looking at her as she’s looking at you, and not having the slightest idea what to say next. You smile, she smiles, and then – nothing. The moment passes, someone else captures her attention, and the moment is lost – the opportunity to connect is lost. Connection is what we want, whether it’s as simple as a meaningful conversation, or as grand as a lifetime together. This connection is why we endure the rapid heartbeat, the dry mouth, the stuttering and the awkward silences.

This desire to connect is what you must focus on – when you focus on the connection, what should happen next becomes easier. Imagine if, rather than being at a party or another social situation, you were HIRED by an eccentric millionaire to walk up to a woman and connect with her – connect with what she does for a living, what she’s passionate about, maybe just what kind of movies she likes. What would you do then?

Of course, the millionaire paid you to CONNECT with her, not merely interrogate her, so this involves offering something up of yourself. Once you find this point of contact, then you can share a little bit of yourself and deepen the connection. So, the first problem you’re solving when talking to a beautiful woman is:
FINDING A POINT OF COMMON CONNECTION. . . THAT SHE CARES ABOUT

This is the premise behind pick-up lines, and while they generally fail so spectacularly, unless they’re played for a laugh – the premise is that the point of connection is the woman’s vanity: I recognize that you’re attractive, and I’m going to assume that that’s something you’re really caught up in. It’s a big lose-lose – a pick-up line won’t work on the woman you want to connect with, and the woman that it WILL work on, you probably don’t want to connect with in the first place.
ASKING QUESTIONS

Only she knows what she’s passionate about, and you need to find it out. You find out by asking questions…but what questions?

Start with, Hi, I’m Joe (shake hands), and then:

So what’s your story?
I’m here tonight because (single sentence explanation that requires no follow-up). What brings you here?

That’s about as broad a net as can be cast. Ideally, you have a common social context from which to take a cue, such as being at the same school, or place of work, or church.

Pro-tip: Be careful not to ask “Do you come here often?” There’s nothing inherently wrong with that question, but that specific formulation is a very tired pick-up line. You can express the same sentiment with “How long have you been coming here” or something similar.
PROCEED FROM THE GENERAL TO THE SPECIFIC

It’s important to not box yourself in too early in a conversation. If you have that specific social context to work from you can use that, but be careful. For example, in a coffee shop:

You: Hi, I’m Joe (shakes hands). What are you drinking?

Beautiful woman: Uh, it’s a cappuccino.

You: …uh, those are great. (Silence)

Beautiful woman: (Smiles) Well, gotta go…

What might have gone better is this:

You: Hi, I’m Joe (shakes hands). I’m grabbing a coffee in between classes. Same with you?

Beautiful woman: Actually, I just got off work.

You: Ah…where do you work?

Beautiful woman: I actually just started a job at this law firm…

And there you go.

Here’s another example of the wrong way to do it, and the right way to fix it:

In the lobby outside a movie (afterwards)

You: Hi, I’m Joe (shakes hands). I really love the films of Wes Anderson. What did you think of the Royal Tenebaums?

Beautiful woman: I just came here with a friend…is that the director of the movie?

You: Yeah, the writer and the director. He’s got a really idiosyncratic, hand-crafted style…

Beautiful woman: (no idea what you’re talking about) Sure. Well, nice talking to you…

And better:

You: Hi, I’m Joe (shakes hands). Did you enjoy the film?

Beautiful woman: It was kind of out there for me.

You: Yeah, this filmmaker can be pretty wild, I guess he can be kind of an acquired taste. I’m pretty into film…how about you?

Beautiful woman: A bit, I guess. I really liked Rio 2.

You: You like animated films?

And so on. You’ve now moved from the general to the specific, but on terms that she cares about. She is more likely to be willing to contribute the effort required to make the connection now.

You might notice that in the both examples above, we had kind of a false start – we both saw the same movie, you enjoyed it, and it wasn’t her scene. What happened was that we started too specifically (which, of course, was natural – it would be weird to walk out of a movie and ask “uh, do you like movies?”). The fix is to tack back to the general.

Pro-tip: As you can see, I prefer going straight for the handshake. It’s a little bold, but it prevents you from starting with a line that will turn her off. If it feels too bold for the situation, you can save it for later.

Bonus pro-tip: This is a tough one to pull off, but if some time has passed, and you’re feeling a connection, you can storm the castle with:

“So we’ve talked about your job, your x and your y…what are you really passionate about?”

The big risk here is that she’s really passionate about her job, x or y, and you’ve missed that, and it comes off as dismissive. But if it works, it works big. Don’t even consider using this until the second hour of conversation.
SLAYING NEEDINESS

There’s a great line in the movie Broadcast News where a lonely man asks “Wouldn’t this be a great world if insecurity and desperation made us more attractive?”

It’s a powerful observation because it illuminates the nature of what psychologists call “social proof”. A financial corollary to this is “banks only lend money to people who can afford to pay it back”. If we enter into a conversation sending the message that we desperately need to connect (even though we do – every single one of us, though maybe not at the same moment), this is a sign to others that we have trouble connecting. So while our need to connect is true, that time when we’re forging that fragile first connection is not the time to share it.

Just as you move from the general to the specific, share yourself in the same way, a piece at a time. Treat your vulnerability as a prize that she has to earn, just as you have to earn hers. Don’t, unless the social context emphasizes (and maybe not, even then) talk about politics or religion. Don’t spill your heart out to her in the first ten minutes you meet her – that part of your self is too valuable to be traded so coarsely. Treat the interaction as an opportunity to explore whether, when and how much of yourself you’re going to share.
PLAY IT SMART

A lot of communication with a woman is non-verbal. If she’s wearing headphones, if she’s talking on the phone, if she’s in the middle of a conversation with a friend, it’s probably not the right moment. If you’re nervous, you will tend to speak more and faster than you would ordinarily…slow down, and allow there to be space in the conversation. A pause need not be an awkward one, and it can give her the opportunity to contribute energy to the interaction.

Finally, if the connection just doesn’t happen, conclude the conversation gracefully and count the interaction as a skill-development exercise. Keep in mind that a woman can be socially awkward (or downright rude) in how she handles this – just let it go. You don’t need to set her straight – you don’t need anything more from her. Here are sample conclusions in ascending order of terseness:

Her: Well, I’ve got to get going.

You: It’s been a pleasure talking with you. Have a nice night.

Her: I’m sorry, but I’m dating someone…

You: Fair enough. It’s been nice talking with you.

OR, if you didn’t have any romantic intentions:

You: I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to give you that impression. I won’t take up any more of your time.

Her: Who the hell are you anyway? My boyfriend is going to…

You: (chuckle) Goodbye.

The key takeaway here is that there is no “zinger”, no snappy insult. Who cares? The ultimate victory is to not need to salvage your wounded pride. Even if it’s not true, even if your pride IS wounded – the most graceful, elegant way to handle it is as if it weren’t.

Pro-tip: Eye contact is a thin line between connection and coming off as a staring psychopath! Look into her eyes long enough to make a note of their color of her eyes, a second or two, and then feel free to unlock.
SPEAKING WITH HEARTFULNESS

Everything I’ve talked about so far has been relentlessly tactical, so we need to step back for a moment and recognize that we’re employing these tactics for the higher purpose of actually establishing the connection. That is to say, we’re not trying to manipulate her, we’re trying to find what it is that we share, and what of ourselves we can share with each other.

A man, once married, instantly becomes better at talking to women, I think. It’s tempting to attribute this to simply having the pressure off, but it’s more complicated than that. The most important thing is that now the man (assuming that he’s a decent and honorable man) has no agenda. The reason why a married man can do this better is that he’s not carrying the additional emotional baggage of trying to get something from the woman.

Have you ever had the experience of slowly realizing that the person you’re talking to is not at all interested in the conversation, but is trying to sell you something? How did that make you feel? No one likes to feel that they’re being manipulated, or being used.
FOCUSING ON HER

A big mistake that men make is trying to impress. Of course you want to impress the woman, but it has to happen organically – if you reel off your resume (or worse, your bank balance), you’ll either fail catastrophically or connect in a problematic way. The key is to try and keep the focus on her. The number one thing that you need to communicate is that you’re interested in her.

You might ask, “didn’t I communicate that by walking over to talk to her?” Not at all – you might be interested only in yourself, and merely using her as a platform for that. You might be interested only in going to bed with her. You might be interested in using her to get over your last girlfriend. It’s complicated – women pick up baggage the same way that we do.

Imaging the coolest, most interesting person you can think of, living or dead – and imagine the general flow of the conversation. How much would you want to talk about yourself, and how much would you want to talk about that person? If I were to have cigars with Winston Churchill, he would leave knowing next to nothing about me.

Pro-tip: don’t take this too far and rebuff a question – remember that this isn’t an interrogation; it’s an attempt to connect. It’s all about energy – share enough of yourself to connect, and focus on learning about her.

On the eve of the election in Great Britain in 1886, a woman dined with the two men vying for the post of Prime Minister, William Gladstone and Benjamin Disraeli. When asked her appraisal of the men, she replied, “After dining with Mr. Gladstone, I thought he was the cleverest person in England. But after dining with Mr. Disraeli, I thought I was the cleverest person in England.” Which would you rather be?

USA 0-4 Argentina: Lionel Messi sets new national goalscoring record as Tata Martino's side reach Copa America final

A pitch-invader sprinted onto the surface and headed straight for Lionel Messi. Reaching the Argentine star, who became his country's all-time top scorer here, he hit the deck and bowed down several times at his feet. He was the only man who got close to Messi all night, and he spoke for the stadium.
The No 10's gravity-defying free-kick sent Argentina flying into the Copa America Centenario final, and Messi set up goals for Ezequiel Lavezzi and Gonzalo Higuain as well, pulling the strings as he closes in on the title which will make his legend undeniable.
The USA were forced into several changes by suspensions to key players Jermaine Jones, Bobby Wood and Alejandro Bedoya, who had started every game thus far, but it wasn't the reason they were taken to pieces by Argentina. No - that was the distance in quality between the teams.

Jurgen Klinsmann's team didn't have a shot all night, on or off target. It was more of a chasm than a gap.
From start to finish this was Messi's game. In the fourth minute he played a superb chipped pass into the box which confused the USA backline and left goalkeeper Brad Guzan without a clue what to do.
Lavezzi ghosted in and, in an ocean of space, headed the ball over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net. The NRG stadium exploded. Argentina fans celebrating wildly, US supporters awed by Messi's pass.
Almost everything positive came through the Barcelona No 10. In the eighth minute he fired over, then eight minutes later sailed past three players before Guzan fielded his strike from the edge of the box.
The next time Messi ran at the United States' defence, it ended up in a goal. Chris Wondolowski took him out on the edge of the box and picked up a yellow card for his trouble. Which was only just beginning.
Messi placed the ball and stared at Guzan's goal. The space was to the left, the stopper almost inviting him to put it on that side. But never one to shirk a challenge, Messi launched a simply unstoppable free-kick into the top right corner.
It was one of the very best goals of his career, a fitting way to surge past Gabriel Batistuta as the country's leading goal scorer. Batigol has 54, which Messi equalled in the previous round against Venezuela.

6 Best Topics to Talk About With a Girl

1. Books, Movies, Music and Art

Let’s face it. You’re not going to have a woman bearing her soul to you and sharing her hopes, dreams and deepest fears with you from the get go. You’ll need to build a whole lot of comfort and rapport before you get there. This is why you need a few conversational topics that are low effort and still engaging to get things started. Getting a woman talking about her favorite books, movies, music or art is a great way to do so.

The trick here, however, is to not ask for too little. For example, if a woman tells you that she loves music, don’t just ask her what her favorite band is. Ask her for two songs from her favorite band that she thinks you should listen to and ask her what those two songs mean to her. Or if a woman tells you that she loves to read, instead of just asking her who her favorite author is ask her to recommend a book to you and get her to tell you what it’s about.

Not only will this allow you to coax her into putting more conversational effort into your interaction, but it’ll also help you find out things that you both are into.

2. Relationships

I swear to God, relationship related topics are like conversational crack for most women. And if there’s one thing that women love more than hearing relationship stories, it’s coming up with solutions to relationship problems.

So the next time you hear about your little cousin’s problems with her boyfriend, or hear about your roommate complain about his overly possessive girlfriend, make a mental note of the story and use it in conversation. You’ll be surprised with just how into these topics women can get.

3. The People Around You

Sometimes I hear a lot of guys complain saying that they run out of topics to talk about when they’re with a girl that they’re interested in. But here’s the thing. If you pay close attention to your surroundings the chances are that you’ll find more than enough conversational ammunition to last a whole day.

For example, there’s a fun little game that I love playing with girls that I’m out on dates on. I call it the “what’s their story” game. When you’re out on a date with a girl, pick a stranger at random and talk about what you imagine what their story must be like. And then ask your date to tell you her version. Once she gets the hang of it start getting more and more imaginative and ridiculous with your stories. I guarantee that you’ll both have a blast.

4. Travel

Whenever I’m interacting with a woman I always try to direct the conversation in a direction that’s fun and imaginative. I hate conversations that drab and uninteresting. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned through my experiences with women is that talking about travel always gets them feeling happy and excited.

You see, people love to travel, and those who aren’t able to travel daydream about having either the time or the money to do it. The key here, again, is to ask for more than just an impersonal list of travel destinations.

Ask her where the most exciting place she’s travelled to was and what she loved about it. Or ask her where she would go if she could disappear for an entire month without having to worry about her work or any other responsibilities. These types of conversations will get her imagination firing on overdrive and put her in an uplifted emotional state; both feelings which she will start associating with you.

beach-camera-hand-5314-824x550

5. Observations About Her

There’s a school of thought among some men who teach attraction skills that a guy should never compliment or show interest in a woman. I disagree. I believe that to truly attract and seduce a woman you need to make her feel as if she’s won you over. To do this you need to find out things about her that are unique and appreciate them. Being curious about women can significantly improve your dating life!

You see, a woman’s observational skills are often much more keenly tuned than a man, and being with a man who notices things that other men usually don’t will have a powerful effect on her.

Does she have a fashion sense that you hardly ever get to see on other women? Does she circle words that she thinks sound cute when she’s reading? Let her know that you notice these things and ask her about them. And when she tells you these stories let her know that you find these things attractive about her.

6. Her Passions, Her Dreams and Her Goals

Do you remember the last time someone showed genuine interest in your dreams and goals? It’s always such a nice feeling to talk about things that you are passionate about with a person who’s genuinely interested in these things. And here’s the cool thing. Once you’ve built up a certain level of trust and rapport with a woman, all you need to do to find out these things about her is to ask.

You see, sometimes being a great conversationalist is like learning to become a mirror. The point isn’t to grope about blindly in search of things that your conversational partner to talk about.

If they didn't even look up when you enter the room, they were allocated to Security.
If they tried to tell you it's not as bad as it looks, they were assigned in Marketing.
If they were wearing green sunglasses and need a haircut, IT was their niche.
If they mentioned what a good price we got for the table and chairs, they were sent to purchasing.
If they mentioned that hardwood furniture does not come from rainforests, Public Relations would suit them well.

Early in your course you should look at the Work Experience open to you. As well as allowing you to earn money, they may allow you to gain relevant skills and perhaps an insight into the types of job you are interested in, putting you at the head of the queue when you eventually apply for jobs.

The Careers Information Room has a wide variety of booklets, reference files, books, DVD's and computer programmes you can use.

You may like to enter Postgraduate Study instead of directly entering a job, or it may be required for a particular career such as law or teaching. Here it may be important to apply early in your final year and to look at whether funding will be available to pay for the course.

INFORMATION FOR SPECIFIC GROUPS
We try to cater for all Kent students whatever their needs: Mature Students, Students with Disabilities, International Students, Ethnic Minority Students, Women Students. Sometimes this may affect your career choice - for example, mature students often enter public sector jobs and the helping careers where greater life experience may be to their advantage.

Making Decisions
The computer programs below allow you to put in a number of factors on what you want in a career (such as helping others, promotion prospects) and will give suggestions of possible careers which might match these. Regard these as useful suggestions rather than gospel truth, but they should bring up some possibilities that you haven't considered before.

Prospects Planner www.prospects.ac.uk/links/Pplanner is a powerful program to help you choose a graduate career. It allows you to answer questions about your values and interests and then to relate these to a database of hundreds of occupations to get suggestions on appropriate careers.

Alternatively Careers Explorer is a quick and simple program which will also suggest graduate careers

Talk to graduates already working in your chosen career area. You can use the Kent Alumni Careers Network to contact a graduate directly. Work shadowing (spending a day with) a person in the career you are considering is the next best thing to actually doing a job, to find out what it is like. If you have done this, you will come across as much better prepared at interviews.Ostrich

Of course, the other important part in making decisions is discussing it with other people. Friends, family and tutors can all play an important part here . The Duty Careers Adviser is available every day without an appointment for a short discussion and can often help to inject reality into your ideas for example, pointing out that you may need to fund your way through a postgraduate course to enter your chosen career.

Taking Action
This is the final process of career planning. It involves:

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

Northern Ireland have won only twice in 14 meetings with Germany (D4, L8).
Those two wins came in qualifying for the 1984 European Championship. That is the only time that a team has beaten Germany/West Germany both home and away in a qualifying campaign.
Current Northern Ireland assistant boss Jimmy Nicholl played in both of those fixtures.
Northern Ireland's 1-0 away win in November 1983 remains their last victory against Germany. Norman Whiteside scored the winning goal that day.
This is their first meeting at a major tournament since the 1958 World Cup. They drew 2-2 in that encounter in Malmo as both teams progressed to the quarter-finals.
Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland have lost only one of their last 14 internationals (W7, D6).
They have not conceded more than one goal in their last 15 internationals, since they lost 2-0 in qualifying to Romania in November 2014.
Seven of Northern Ireland's last 10 goals in competitive games have come from set-pieces (four from corners, three from indirect free-kicks).
Northern Ireland went from two shots (zero on target) in their Euro 2016 opener against Poland to 13 shots (seven on target) in their second outing against Ukraine.
Germany

The last time Germany failed to make it out of the group stages of a major tournament was at Euro 2004. Since then, they've made the last four at every single major competition.
Germany have won 12 of their last 15 games at major tournaments, drawing two and losing one - that was a 2-1 defeat to Italy in the Euro 2012 semi-finals.
Thomas Muller hasn't scored or assisted a single goal in seven games at the Euros. He's had just one shot on target in 180 minutes so far at Euro 2016.
Muller has scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 13 World Cup games.

RomanceRe: How To Talk To A Girl You Like by Cornerstone99(op): 11:44am On Jun 20, 2016
How to Talk to Girls You Don't Know

Every guy has been in the same position at some point in his life: He sees an attractive girl and wants to strike up a conversation, but he's just too afraid or nervous to waltz up and jump right in. The more beautiful the girl, the more difficult it is. Yet for many men, just talking to any girl he doesn't know can be an ordeal worse than giving a public speech. This need not be the case, however, because once you know a few rules of thumb, there is no girl in the world you can't approach.

STEP 1
Approach the girl armed without fear of rejection. If you are rejected, depending on your taste, there are still other potential dates. Rejection does not mean the end of your dating life, but staying focus on the fear of rejection can limit your confidence Don't fear rejection -- embrace the possibility of acceptance.

STEP 2
Learn the secret of confidence. When walking up to talk to a girl, exude confidence. Walk with your shoulders back and look her in the eye as you approach. Talk without fumbling and mumbling, no matter how nervous you are. Confidence shows that you are assured in yourself, but also sends the message that you are certain that you're interested in a girl you're approaching.

STEP 3
Make a girl laugh -- if you do so, you can get her to talk to you all night long. Many women admire a man that can make her laugh. Making a girl laugh is more about peppering the conversation with witty observations than telling jokes. You must learn to integrate your humor into the flow of conversation by making funny remarks about what she says and humorous comments about your surroundings.

STEP 4
Give an original compliment to spark interest. Be creative. Approaching after you have heard her laugh gives you the perfect opportunity to tell her what a great laugh she has, but be sure to have something funny to follow it up with so you get her to laugh again. Comparing a girl to a great beauty can be dicey, so you don't want to tell a girl she looks like a certain celebrity if she thinks that celebrity isn't attractive.

STEP 5
Act like a gentleman. While it is true that there's a girl out there for every guy and deviant behavior is all around, the odds are in your favor if you act like a nice guy instead of a total jerk. A gentleman isn't crass or crude, and he treats a girl with respect. The odds are also in your favor that a healthy helping of the guys who have approached this girl in the past were less than classy, so you have that going for you.

Time for Daniel Sturridge to deliver on the biggest stage for England with striker set to start against Slovakia in Group B clash

England's most talented centre forward will be in Roy Hodgson’s starting line-up in Saint-Etienne and that should really be a cause for great comfort. But with Daniel Sturridge things are never that straightforward.
Sturridge is the player that nobody really feels they know and as such Monday’s Group B meeting against Slovakia may go some way to tipping the argument regarding his merits one way or the other.
The Liverpool centre forward is in the team partly because of others’ failings, most notably Tottenham’s Harry Kane. He is also playing because of the way he created and scored the winning goal against Wales last Thursday. That passage of play summed up perfectly the attributes of a footballer of rare gifts.

What we cannot be sure we will get, however, is a 90-minute performance of note from the 26-year-old. Nobody has been sure of that for a while. Not Hodgson, not Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and not his predecessor at Anfield Brendan Rodgers. Maybe not even Sturridge himself.
Since he finally returned from injury in the latter half of last season, Sturridge has presented flashes of his capabilities and some of them have been quite memorable. His goal in the Europa League final against Sevilla in Basel was a beauty and went some way to edging him in to Hodgson’s final 23-man squad.

‘You set a bar, a level and if you don’t reach that bar straightaway people start to question, “what’s going on here?”
‘Players go through ups and downs in their careers… it’s inevitable.
‘It’s about bouncing back from adversities and believing in yourself, and keeping believing in yourself.’
Some footballers can use slights and criticism to drive them on through their career, to help during big games. Hodgson’s No 2 with England, former Manchester United full back Gary Neville, was one such player.
This does not seem to be the case with Sturridge. It would appear that he needs to feel fully at peace to perform at his best.
A natural goalscorer, Sturridge, who started his career at Manchester City, can be an effective substitute. He can adapt to the rhythm of a game quickly. He doesn’t need time.
His challenge is to prove he is better than the role of a substitute. Those among the Liverpool support who criticise him would do well to remember the part he played in partnership with Luis Suarez the season Rodgers almost led the club to the Premier League title in 2014.

EDO APC: How Obaseki won seki-won

It’s victory for all of us — Obaseki I’m fulfilled — Oshiomhole •It’s time to unify everybody — Masari By Simon Ebegbulem THAT Mr. Godwin Obaseki, yesterday, emerged the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was hardly surprising. With the full support of the outgoing governor and the majority of his government behind him, Obaseki had been in pole position to beat the 11 other aspirants in the contest to succeed the outgoing governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. Votes polled Obaseki, chairman of the Edo state Economic and Strategic Team, emerged winner with 1,618 votes. His closest rival, the deputy governor of the state, Dr. Pius Odubu polled 471 votes, Mr. Kenneth Imasuagbon polled 247 votes, Dr. Chris Ogienwonyi 137 votes, while Gen. Charles Airhiavbere polled 11 votes. Prof. Osarhiemien Osunbor 9 votes, Tina Agbarha 3 votes, Peter Esele 8 votes, Austin Emuan 7 votes, Emmanuel Arigbe Osula 10 votes, Prof Ebegbue Amadasun 8 votes and Blessing Agbomhere 5 votes and 41 invalid votes. The results were declared by the chairman of the Election Committee and governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Aminu Masari at about 4 a.m. yesterday. A total of 2,582 delegates were accredited to elect the party’s flag bearer in the exercise which held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Benin City. Voting commenced at about 5:30 pm due to the delayed accreditation of delegates from the 18 Local Government Areas in three designated centers in Benin City. When it became clearer that Obaseki was coasting home to victory during the counting of the votes, Dr. Odubu, the outgoing deputy governor, Ogienwonyi and Imasuagbon left the stadium looking disappointed. Gen. Airhiavbere, Prof.Osunbor, Esele and the others, however, remained until the end of the exercise. Path to victory

Obaseki’s path to victory was cemented by the division in the ranks of those against him who believed that they could individually have outsmarted Obaseki with the huge support of the incumbent behind him. And unfortunately for Odubu, Ogienwonyi and Imasuagbon they failed to come up with a consensus candidate, so while Obaseki enjoyed his block votes from Edo North, Oshiomhole’s domain and also captured majority of the votes in Edo Central and South districts, other aspirants shared what was left, which enabled him to inflict severe defeat on Odubu and others. Inducement Of course, the influence of money as a factor was widely widespread. However, as the comrade governor said last Wednesday all of them were involved in the utilisation of money. As one of the losers admitted, he had put delegates on a pay roll for months through his foundation which was used to woo delegates to his cause. In the course of the campaign, there were also mutual accusations among the aspirants of the mopping up of the Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs by the aspirants. How the PVCs were used by the aspirants to trap the delegates was an issue yesterday. While a source said that the mopping up of the PVCs of the delegates before the election was done to prevent them from collecting incentives, the comrade governor said yesterday that all the media assertions about the PVCs were unfounded. Another strategy used by one of the major aspirants was to sequester his delegates under heavy security away from the public. One of the aspirants, who lost complained yesterday that the decision to vote in the open was also a disservice as he said that some of the delegates complained that they were monitored as they voted.

Roy Hodgson is ready to take a huge Euro 2016 gamble by resting captain Wayne Rooney for Monday night’s clash against Slovakia.
The England manager is contemplating making six changes to the team that started Thursday’s win over Wales for the final Group B clash. Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling, Dele Alli, Kyle Walker and Danny Rose are all set to be left out despite England having to win to guarantee finishing top of the group.
But Rooney is the biggest casualty as Hodgson looks to refresh his team ahead of the knockout stages. Daniel Sturridge and Jamie Vardy, who both scored after coming off the bench against Wales, are poised to take the two attacking positions up for grabs.

Jack Wilshere and Jordan Henderson are set to start their first game of the Euros, replacing Alli and Rooney, while Nathaniel Clyne and Ryan Bertrand are expected to start as Hodgson rotates his full-backs.
It is a huge gamble by Hodgson as wins for Slovakia and Wales (against Russia) will leave England qualifying in third place and facing a tougher last-16 opponent.

Three Things Recruiters No Longer Look For (And Three They Still Do)

WHAT RECRUITERS CARE LESS ABOUT
1. Your cover letter. In the past few years, some have declared cover letters obsolete—apparently justifiably so. "I haven’t read one in a long time," confides Judi Kruger, director of talent acquisition for global sales and services at Cisco. That’s mainly because they just aren’t an efficient way to comb through high volumes of candidates quickly (and with minimal unconscious bias).

Instead, companies and recruitment firms are adopting increasingly powerful software for screening job applicants. And it’s thanks to those software programs that a good resume is becoming more important as cover letters fall by the wayside. There are risks to cramming your resume with keywords in order to get picked up by an applicant tracking system (ATS), but according to Susan Vitale, CMO at the ATS service iCIMS, one simple trick can help you get noticed: Acronyms.

Remember get palmchat. WWW.PALMCHAT.COM

If you’re a sales professional who’s "familiar with CRMS"—customer relationship management software—"spelling it out and including the acronym," she says, "is important because that’s how resumes are being searched and parsed for information. That may not have been something that you’d have had to worry about five years ago."

2. Where you went to school. "Hiring managers are caring less about where somebody graduated from school," Vitale adds, "and are focusing far more on the pure skills that may be transferrable." While academic pedigree is still important—Vitale cites STEM and finance as two noteworthy holdouts, especially at the entry level—she says recruiters are generally giving less weight to an impressive alma mater than they used to.

Instead, Vitale advises, "you want to dial up the skills . . . those things jump out far more than your grad school."

3. Where you used to work. "We’re seeing more cross-pollination among industries than ever before," says Vitale. One example: Many design firms and design-heavy fields are now seeing Uber as a top competitor for talent, thanks to the demands of the digital consumer market. "You need a product that looks really good whether you are a software designer or a shoe manufacturer," Vitale explains.

"UX and UI are now prevailing across multiple industries where in the past that used to be more pigeonholed." And it’s for similar reasons that "software and systems proficiency are also more pervasive than they were a few years ago." Which means that the employers you worked for previously may now matter less to recruiters than what you did there, how well you did it, and what you learned in the process.
WHAT RECRUITERS STILL CARE ABOUT
So if that’s what’s changing, what’s staying the same? And which are the familiar standout qualifications that are actually gaining cache?

1. Your research chops. Jim Stroud has been involved in recruitment since 1997, consulting for Microsoft, Google, Siemens, and MCI, and since then he’s seen younger workers’ research skills get shakier as access to information widens. One of the first opportunities for a recruiter to spot that gap is in salary expectations.

Now senior director of RPO recruitment strategies and support at Randstad Sourceright, Stroud says that "in the past, people would pitch a salary based on where they worked before," and that made perfect sense to recruiters at a time when reliable, industry-wide salary data wasn’t so available.

2. Too much job-hopping (in most cases)
. Some say job-hopping is losing its negative stigma since it’s now common to spend three years or less at a given employer. Others disagree, and the strongest endorsement of job-hopping that recruiters seem willing to make is basically a resounding, "it depends."

If a candidate has worked in a startup environment, says Stroud, "they’re doing more than one job. The way you handle people, the way you’re solving problems, the way you can communicate with other folks"—these are things recruiters tend to expect candidates with startup experience to excel at.

Kruger agrees that job-hopping is less of an automatic red flag than it was a decade ago, when it "was considered a very negative thing" across the board. "I see that trend has almost flipped," she says—going the farthest on this question of the four recruiters Fast Company spoke with.

But "almost" may be the operative word here. Vitale cautions that switching jobs too frequently is still more a liability than an advantage due to simple economics: The costs to employers of backfilling positions usually far outstrip any skills a candidate might have picked up by jumping around a lot. Evidence of "commitment and loyalty," in Kruger’s words, just makes for a safer investment.

3. How you talk about your career. Particularly as those attitudes toward job-hoping evolve, it’s putting more pressure on job seekers to do one thing well: control the narratives about their careers.

"A job seeker has to be able to tell their story and tell how one thing relates to another," says Kruger. That’s arguably always been important, but getting it right may set you over the edge more quickly than it has in the past. In Stroud’s experience, candidates’ oral and written communications skills alike are deteriorating, and employers still need people who have both.

Not incidentally, both of those stand out in a recent PayScale/Future Workplace survey asking hiring managers to list the skills entry-level job seekers most lack. So if you want to get a leg up, these tried-and-true communication skills might be a great place to start.

9 Things I Wish I Knew When I Started My Career

1. WEIGH THAT CAREER "GROWTH OPPORTUNITY" CAREFULLY
"I was six months into my first job out of college in the mortgage industry and flourishing. I was making great money while living in Dallas, and before long, I was offered an opportunity to join the New York branch. On paper, it seemed like a great chance for growth and it included a healthy raise. I was so excited that I didn’t ask the questions necessary to understand if the opportunity was a fit for me and where I was professionally.

By the time I reached New York, that $8,000 raise all but disappeared, and based on the cost of living, I was actually making less money. From a cultural perspective, I traded a nurturing environment full of seasoned professionals who were invested in my professional success for a bottom-line-driven environment full of young sharks trying to make their mark.

[I learned] it’s important to carefully evaluate every "growth opportunity" against your skills, values and personal opportunity cost. Sometimes when opportunity knocks, we have to look through the peephole before we answer."

—Brian Lawrence, 32, career counselor, St. Louis, Mo.

2. START SAVING YOUR PAY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
"Like most young professionals, I heard this message but thought, I’m young and still have time, and instead told myself I would start saving consistently when I earned more or finished paying for this or that.

In retrospect, I should have saved 10% to 15% of every paycheck. I’m actually a very frugal person, but frugality doesn’t necessarily equate to money in the bank if you’re not actually putting it there. I could have saved thousands upon thousands of dollars by now at age 35!"

—Chaz Pitts-Kyser, 35, author of Careeranista: The Woman’s Guide to Success After College, Alexandria, Va.

3. ACKNOWLEDGE WHEN IT’S NOT A GOOD CAREER MATCH
"When I was in my 20s and working at my second job out of college, I realized three months in that it wasn’t the right place for me. But when I was offered a great opportunity to move from the Bay Area to Boston for another opportunity that I was excited about, I decided to stay at [my current] job because I thought [leaving] would make my résumé look flaky or noncommitted.

My advice to my younger self? If a job really isn’t working out, find something new and change. Life is too short. It’s the random experiences that make life exciting and will lead to new opportunities."

4. FIRST IMPRESSIONS MATTER
"I started my first business, specializing in entertainment for weddings, out of my college dorm. I was setting up meetings with my clients at McDonald’s because I didn’t have an office, and I also dressed like a typical student—less than professional. I didn’t understand why I wasn’t getting any business, even though I was one of the best DJs in town.

Then a mentor suggested I lose the college attire, and meet clients in a more professional setting. To my surprise, my business started booming: I booked over 4,000 events per year before I sold the business. I have since launched nine successful companies—and I am forever grateful to that mentor."

—Clay Clark, 33, CEO of Thrive15.com, Tulsa, Okla.
5. JOB-HOP MORE THOUGHTFULLY
"The biggest mistake I ever made was grinding through my 20s thinking that a job would ever make me [feel] ‘wealthy.’ I’ve worked several horrible jobs, including selling timeshares at a resort and corporate real estate jobs that were absolutely soul-sucking. However, they did serve a purpose in my journey to doing what I ultimately desired to do: write books, mentor people and speak on the topic of personal development.

If you feel stuck or are growing resentful of your work situation, the solution isn’t to simply quit your job and find another one. Suck it up for a little bit longer, and research what it is you actually want to do. Once you’ve identified your dream situation, begin working toward that end result—while financing it through your existing job."

—Brenden Dilley, 32, self-help author and life coach, Phoenix
6. IT’S OKAY TO FOLLOW YOUR GUT
"I started my first successful business when I was a junior in college with my roommate. We were driven and passionate about our idea, but we hadn’t finished our undergraduate degrees, so we were working with advisers who were older and all held MBAs.

What I should have known was that no amount of education would replace the insight my friend and I had into our business because it was our business. But I was young and lacked confidence, so I was too often swayed from my common sense by people who I assumed were smarter because of their degrees. I’ve since learned to trust my instincts because they’ve proven more valuable than an MBA ever could."

—Sara Sutton Fell, 40, CEO of FlexJobs, Boulder, Colo.

7. DON’T FORCE YOURSELF INTO A BAD CAREER MOVE
"One of the biggest mistakes I made was allowing an employer to decide my career direction. I really liked the company that I worked for, but there were only two possible mid-level positions [that I could be promoted to]. Instead of taking the leap to look for more fulfilling work elsewhere, I convinced myself to squeeze my talents into one of the positions.

After a few months, I realized that I had made the wrong decision—and I had to change jobs almost immediately after the promotion. I could have saved myself and the company time and money if I had been honest with myself."

—LaTisha Styles, 31, investment analyst, Atlanta, Ga.

8. NEVER SELL YOURSELF SHORT
"I went to a state university and majored in economics, and my GPA wasn’t the best. Because of that, none of the major financial companies would take a second look at my résumé. When I was just entering the job market, I assumed the candidates with high GPAs who got the high-paying jobs were smarter than me—and I convinced myself that I should be satisfied with getting any job out of college.

It was a big career mistake, because I then limited myself to the types of jobs I pursued, effectively accepting lower salaries and doing double the amount of work as those who were making more than me."

—Yi Wang, 30, financial consultant, Westchester, N.Y.
9. SUCCESS ISN’T JUST FOUND IN THE BIG POND
"As a new college graduate, I chased the money and the title, partially because I thought that it was proof of success—and because my student loans weren’t going to pay themselves. Over the next ten years, my income grew, the bonuses were bigger, my title was more superior, and my work was more fulfilling. However, with all of that came a tremendous amount of stress and worry about succeeding at the next level.

Then I started a family and my view shifted. I previously commuted over an hour each way, so I could have the better salary and opportunity with a larger company. I was on track for senior-level management, but I saw my family less and less. Earlier this year, I came to the end of my rope.

Recently, I accepted a position with a smaller company, just 10 minutes from my home. The salary is less, the company is smaller, and there is no ‘race to the top’ because I am already there. The stress is less, and I am truly happy with my decision to make this fundamental change. Now I just wish I had done it sooner."
