PDP: The three horse race against Obaseki

IN the beginning, they were four aspirants that indicated interests in the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). They were Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Chief Solomon Edebiri, Hon. Matthew Iduoriyekemwen and Osaro Onaiwu. However, only three of the governorship aspirants were screened by the Prof. Tunde Adeniran committee set up by the National Caretaker Committee of the party. Onaiwu did not pick the governorship form for yet undisclosed reasons. Zoning dispute The issue on which of the three Senatorial Zones in the state should produce the PDP governorship candidate was long settled by the party which long ago resolved to focus on the Southern Senatorial District. The party took into cognizance the political exigencies of the time in arriving at its decision. It went ahead to zone the Deputy Governor to Edo Central. With a voting population put at about 58 percent and a strong determination to produce the next governor, it appeared the PDP understood that the first step to winning the election was in picking a candidate from the Edo South zone. Political analysts are strongly of the view that with only three governorship aspirants, the PDP will have less post-primary crisis to battle with unlike the APC that had 12 aspirants. The successful conduct of ad hoc delegates’ election last week meant that the status of delegates, who will elect the party governorship aspirants, was settled. The three aspirants also appear more united than their colleagues in the APC as they have vowed to combine forces with whoever among them emerges as the governorship candidate of the party. In a demonstration of this show of oneness among the aspirants, last week, they were all brought together under one roof by an Edo PDP pressure group, Unity League, to discuss how they can foster unity among the aspirants and the supporters. On that occasion, the aspirants once again gave their words to give their support to whoever wins among them will have the full support and cooperation of the others. The candidates Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu appears on the surface to be the leading aspirant in the PDP. The former Chief of Staff and Secretary to Edo State Government of Chief Lucky Igbinedion is said to have political structures in almost every nook and cranny of the state and against this background some of the party faithful are already seeing him as the PDP flag bearer in the 10, September 2016 governorship election. Looking beyond the PDP ticket

Ize-Iyamu is well grounded in the politics of Edo State and people close to him say that he is already looking beyond the PDP ticket and was already plotting on how to defeat the APC candidate in the September 10 election. Vanguard findings indicated that Ize-Iyamu has done the needful to secure the votes of most of the delegates in the Edo North and Edo Central, while he is expected to share Edo South with Iduoriyekemwen and Edebiri. If this permutation plays out, the party’s ticket will be handed over to him despite staying only two years in a party he was disconnected from in 2007. The strength of the Ize-Iyamu aspiration is also in the fact that he knows the strength of the APC having been the campaign manager to the outgoing governor in 2012. In fact, Ize-Iyamu’s political sagacity is seen in the fact that he has been a major facilitator in the victory of all four governorship contests held in Edo State since 1999. Criticisms against his connection with Lucky Igbinedion under whose administration he served have raised dust among some. He has, however, replied that he was not the driver. Indeed, since he left the APC, his role as SSG in the Igbinedion administration has been put under the binoculars, but his traducers have not been able to indict him of any wrongdoing

Pipeline bombings: Kachikwu trouble shooting mission to N-Delta

The Minister of Petroleum Resources and Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, spent the week in Niger Delta region rallying stakeholders, especially militants blowing up oil installations, to stop worrying about the things in the pipeline and the pipeline itself, and allow oil to flow unrestrained in the interest of the nation.
If there is anything the Minister has achieved in the last few days, it is the fact that the stakeholders, militants inclusive, are beginning to put a measure of confidence in him to come to the dialogue. But, what is uppermost in their mind is if he had the imprimatur of President Muhammadu Buhari to run the process or he was muscling his way as Minister of State for Petroleum to impress his boss. However, those who doubted his capacity were re-assured that Buhari purposely declared a two-week ceasefire to pave way for dialogue despite the strong opposition to it. The subtlety of Kachikwu and his team is already paying off. As at last, Tuesday, June 14, a week after he pulled a break in fighting, what many of the militant groups were talking about was no longer the next pipeline to attack, but how to participate in the proposed dialogue. However, the delicate peace was shattered Wednesday when the military invaded Tebujor community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West local government area, allegedly hunting for militants. Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, which earlier on Monday, June 13, gave conditions to participate in the dialogue, reacted barely 24 hours later by bombing a gas pipeline owned by Seven Energy Company, the operator of Ibom Gas Power Plant, Uquo in Esit-Eket local government area of the state. However, Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Murtala Mani, refuted the alleged explosion of pipelines at Ikot Osutek, Oruk-Anam, by Avengers, saying the alleged vandalism was an accident caused by a leakage in the gas pipeline. He maintained that it was a technical problem and that some engineers from Port Harcourt were working to rectify the leakage.
Dr. Kachikwu, who was in a meeting with stakeholders in Delta state for several hours on Wednesday, however, is working round the clock to ensure that the ceasefire remains. Saturday Vanguard gathered that some of the stakeholders raised the matter at the Asaba meeting and he promised to address it. Tactical engagement His Niger Delta outing, which was not without its drama started at Uyo, Akwa Ibom, where the Ministry of Information organized a Town Hall meeting. Kachikwu stated that the country would not totally end pipeline vandalism without creating an enabling environment to empower militants in the region. He pointed out that with the avalanche of pipeline bombings by the Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, it would take nothing less than 15 to 20 years to get infrastructure in the oil sector working and full eradication of climatic effects on the environment. He said: “Modular refineries are going to be the answer to our problems in the future. We talk about the militants and their agitations; the reality is that until we begin to put things in place that would have these so called ‘militants’ find opportunities in the sector, the destruction is going to continue. “ “I have appealed to those who are breaking oil pipelines for now, the Niger Delta Avengers and everybody else, and as you know, we are engaging in negotiations for us to find peace this week and be able to enter a truce that stops all the destruction,” the minister asserted. . Uyo performance with Amaechi The drama in Uyo ensued when his colleague, Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon Rotimi Amaechi, took over the podium defending the controversial scrapping of the Nigeria Maritime University, NMU, Okerenkoko, Delta state, an issue that is at the heart of demands by the militant groups and other stakeholders. He said the previous administration of Goodluck Jonathan paid too much to acquire a mere site. In his typical style, he said: “What to do: let EFCC retrieve the money and release the money and we build the university. If they bring the N13 billion, I will build the university for them. That’s for land alone.” “I believe the federal government does not have money. When we have money, we can continue. The minister of petroleum has said he would look for the money. Minister, give me the money and we continue.” However, Kachikwu sharply differed with Amaechi, saying he was in support of the project and this drew a loud applause from the audience. His words: “I disagree with the minister of transport. Any facility in the South-south, we should work towards developing it, I do not care the circumstance. It is not my business whether land was valued at N19 billion or N10 million. We will deal with the issues, but the university will be developed. If he (Amaechi) does not want it in maritime, I will take it in Petroleum.” IYC slams Amaechi, hails Kachikwu Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, umbrella body of Ijaw youths, slammed Amaechi and thumbed up Kachikwu for his sincerity of purpose, saying, “We strongly commend the pro-Niger Delta position taken by the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu.” IYC spokesperson, Eric Omare, who tore Amaechi’s position apart, said: “Mr. Amaechi stated that N19 billion was used to acquire empty land for the establishment of the Maritime University, Okerenkoko and that he is not part of negotiation with militants in the Niger Delta region. Mr. Amaechi’s comment about the acquisition of land for the setting up of the Maritime University is completely wrong and deliberately made to justify his unpopular and anti-Niger Delta opposition to the establishment of the university.” “The permanent site of the Maritime University is at Okerenkoko town in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South West local government area and the land for this site was acquired from the Okerenkoko community at an amount less than N2 billion.” “After work commenced at the permanent site, the Federal Ministry of Transportation approached Chief Government Ekpemupolo, who owned a Diving School at Kurutie, another community in Gbaramatu Kingodom to acquire his private diving school to be used as temporary site for the Maritime University. “It is important to note that this Diving School at Kurutue was an existing school with state of the art facilities and structures completely built. In response to the request of the Ministry of Transportation, Chief Ekpemupolo did his own valuation and arrived at about N15 billion, while the Ministry of Transportation did its own valuation and arrived at N13 billion,” the council added. . Calculated harm IYC explained: “The completed Diving School was then sold to the Federal Ministry of Transportation at the valuation done by the ministry. Therefore, it is deliberate mischief for Mr. Amaechi, who is now the Minister of Transportation and has access to all relevant documents to claim that land for the Maritime University, Okerenkoko was acquired at N19 billion to justify his unreasonable and unpopular opposition to the establishment of the Maritime University, Okerenkoko.” “The land for the university was acquired for less than N2 billion contrary to Mr. Amaechi’s claim. It was the temporary site, which is a completely built up land with structures and world-class facilities that was acquired for about N13 billion, which again is far less than Ameachi’s N19 billion claim,” it said. Omare added: “The IYC is of the strong view that Mr. Amaechi is aware of the facts but only deliberately misrepresenting the facts to justify his anti-Niger Delta position.” His words: “We strongly condemn Rotimi Amaechi’s anti-Niger Delta position and commend the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu for standing with the people of the Niger Delta region and endorsing the development of the Niger Delta region. Mr. Kachikwu clearly demonstrated to the world that he is a worthy son and representative of the Niger Delta region.” “It is surprising that Amaechi who opposed former President Jonathan for not developing the Niger Delta region is now leading efforts to undo the Niger Delta region in the present administration. “We wish to also state that Amaechi’s opposition to negotiation as a way out of the renewed militancy in the Niger Delta region shows that Amaechi is against the success of the Buhari administration. The IYC knows as a fact that it is some top federal officials and party chieftains of Niger Delta origin in the Buhari administration like Amaechi, who are against negotiation as a way out of the crisis that are frustrating government efforts to negotiate with Niger Delta stakeholders. “We call on President Buhari to completely disregard the claims of Mr. Amaechi on the Maritime University, Okerenkoko and on moves to settle the renewed militancy in the Niger Delta region. Amaechi’s position is not in the interest of the federal government,” IYC said. Buhari committed to dialogue In Bayelsa state, Kachukwu, who visited the governor, Seriake Dickson, in the company of the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP, Major General Paul Boroh (retd), said Buhari was committed to dialogue. He explained that he was in the state to listen to major players and find a lasting solution to the issues surrounding pipeline vandalism, adding: “The President has not focused on the allocation of oil blocs because we think there are more fundamental issues to deal with. We first have to stabilize the sector (and) we are doing a lot of work on that. “Over the next couple of months, I think more towards the last quarter of this year, then we will focus on looking at bloc opportunities and at that time we will be able to address what we need to do in terms of that resource. “I hear loud and clear the call within the Niger Delta community that there is a very urgent need in those allocations to ensure that opportunities get either to state governments or to citizens in the areas where oil is being produced. “I’m sure that is an area that the President is listening to very carefully and we are going to be working with that,” Dr. Kachikwu said. Governor Dickson applauded Buhari on his stance for dialogue, advising that nobody should politicize the process of peace building and conflict resolution, while Boroh revealed that the dialogue process with militants and other stakeholders have begun producing desirable results.

10 Tips on How to Start a New Career

A career change is exciting, but it can be worrisome. A vision and system for starting a new career can make it easier and efficient. If you take time at the beginning to discover what you really want to do in your work life, you can then explore possibilities and move forward.

Whether you are tired of your current work and just want something different, or you have a specific career in mind, an organized approach will serve you well. Whether you want an entry-level job or a completely new profession, these steps will help.

Know what you do best. Make a list of what you enjoy doing and what you do best. They are usually the same things. Don't think about jobs yet, think about your talents and interests.

List all the things you like to do, including what you think doesn't earn money.

Think about what other people tell you about yourself. If friends say you are good at identifying birds, for instance, put that on the list.

Make a list of the talents and skills those activities require — identifying birds requires observation skills and attention to detail, for instance.

List your training and experience. Volunteering counts. Unusual classes count. If you know a little bit about a lot of things, list them all.

Now think about jobs. What occupations require your talents?

Search the Internet. Try terms in such as job skills, career skills, skills assessment, and whatever else comes to mind.

Narrow the list to a few possible careers — no more than three or four. Keep changing your list until you feel confident that you'd love a job in those fields and that you would do it well. Then narrow your choices to one career and focus completely on that one.

Learn all you can about your chosen new career.

Search the Internet.

Visit your local library. Reference librarians are terrific at helping you find information.

Check with your local government employment office to learn about job possibilities in your new career. Ask about training programs, too.

Interview people in your chosen career. Remember, you're not asking for a job, you are learning about the career itself. What do successful people like about it? What skills are most important? What is it really like?

If there is a union, ask the local office for information.

Changing your mind? That's fine, just go back to step 3 or 4 and start over. It will be worth the time in the long run. When you are sure about the career path you want, move on to the next step.

Keep your old job if possible.

Strange but true: you are more likely to be hired if you are already employed. Think about taking a lower-level job in your new field to learn what you need to advance.

Do you need more training?

Check out vocational schools and colleges in your area. Learn about specific training and what job placement services they offer. Ask about classes you can take while still employed. Night and weekend programs are often available.

No training or classes in your area? Contact the human resources departments in companies that hire in your new career and ask about on-the-job training. It won't be a job interview, but treat it like one. Put your best foot forward, dress appropriately, take a resume, have questions prepared, talk about your skills and experience.

Join a union or professional organization. There are organizations for people in just about any career. One more Internet search can lead you to local or national groups.

When you have the skills and training you need, polish your resume and start your job search.

9 Secrets To Wooing A Girl The Right Way

1. Hold the door for her.

Whether it’s the building door, elevator door, car door (big one), or even the revolving door; YOU HOLD IT. You put your strong, firm man hands on that door, back up your cute, toned butt and instruct her to enter. Say, “After you,” or “Come on in,” or “You may enter, sexy sugar mama,” or don’t even say anything at all. Stand there, look at her, and smile like you wouldn’t rather be doing anything else but standing there, looking at her, and smiling while holding that door open for her. This moment right here is often one of the first opportunities you have to show a girl what a gentleman you are. It seems so obvious, yet many men either forget that this rule exists or feel as though it’s too pretentiously courteous to actually do it. But take my word: this says SO much about you, and as you walk around to the driver’s side to join her, she will sit in your car bubbling over with joy. You will have set the tone for the entirety of the date.

2. Act happy.

Nobody likes a moody sourpuss. Unless both parties are moody sourpusses (sourpi?), because misery loves company and all that stuff. Males often believe that girls like mysterious, brooding men, so they speak very little and talk mostly with their eyes and seductive half-smile smirks. This works if you’re pursuing a one-night rendezvous, but anything beyond that requires your true personality to shine through. Smiling is contagious, and people gravitate towards those with upbeat, joyful personalities. Act like you’re happy to be with your girl (which is much easier if you actually are happy to be with her) so that she absorbs your happy vibes and projects them back onto you. You will be a blissful couplet of smiling faces prancing around glowing with delight.

3. Pay for her.

I took my boyfriend out for a congratulatory dinner one time because he got a new job. I told him I wanted to pay. I begged him to let me pay. Guess who ended up paying? “It’s just how things are done. You’re my girl,” he said, signing the check, and then I fainted into the breadbasket.

This causes many fights in many relationships. It’s hard when two people who don’t have the means to spend a lot go on dates that require spending. But, guys, if you can afford to pay for the date, do it. It is such a sweet, genuine gesture that shows her that you care about her. It tells her that money isn’t something that she’ll have to worry about with you, and that spending time with her is such a delight that no amount of dollars and cents can lessen the happiness it brings you. If you end up marrying the girl, it’ll all be worth it; if you don’t, it’s worth it for your reputation as a Really Great Guy.

It is such a relief for the girl knowing that he’s probably going to pay, and there’ll be no awkward “So, about the bill…” moments. Not because she can’t afford it, or because she told him to, but because he wants to treat her — because he thinks she deserves it.
Now girls, this doesn’t mean that you’re off the hook. Offer to pay sometimes; it’s only fair. If he’s like my boyfriend and actually refuses to let you pay, make up for it in other ways later, like buying him a package of double stuff Oreos, beef jerky or some other #ManFood. Don’t let his chivalry go unnoticed.

4. Put your phone away.

This cannot be stressed enough. If you want your girl to be with you, act like you want to be with her. Checking your phone throughout the date is a nonverbal way of saying, “I am more interested this little box of false reality than looking at your face.” Make sure she knows that’s not true; put your phone in your coat, man purse, shoe, what have you. Just get it out of your face and look at hers. Be engaged in the moment.

5. Introduce her to your best friends.

After you’ve been on a few dates and you’ve covered the background bases (where she’s from, what she likes, what she does for work/school), take her over to meet the guys. If she’s a guy’s girl (S/O to my fellow tomboys), she will LOVE meeting your friends. She’ll want your friends to be her friends. She’ll leave thinking that if guys who are that cool hang out with you, then by association, you must also be cool. This is a pretty subconscious thought but it definitely runs through her mind. If she’s not a guy’s girl, it’s still a good idea. Meeting your friends will show her what you’re like with your buds, what your personality is like in a different context, and (most likely) your true sense of humor. And it’s a great warmup for #6.

Euro 2016 matches are being increasingly decided by those coming off the bench... it's not how you start, it's how you finish

Don't forget to get Palmchat to make your prediction. Get now: WWW.PALMCHATNOW..COM

The language of football is changing; no longer can the word ‘finisher’ be used to talk exclusively about a striker. It has a crucial new meaning.
Is the team that ends a game — ‘the finishers’ — now more important than the team that starts? A significant theme is developing at Euro 2016 and that is matches being profoundly influenced by those coming off the bench.
Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge turned England’s clash with Wales upside down but the same was true with Antoine Griezmann and Paul Pogba when France squeezed past Albania, Hal Robson-Kanu in Wales’s success against Slovakia and Niall McGinn against Ukraine in Northern Ireland’s greatest night at a tournament since 1982.

No longer is this game just about the 11 men who start. This is a 14-man contest, one in which everyone who sits on the bench must be sharp, wise and alert to come on and make the decisive contribution when called upon.
This statistics emphasise the point. Thirty-four goals had been scored in this tournament by the end of play on Thursday night but 10 of them did not arrive until at least the 87th minute. With more space and players tiring, it is in the final moments when the substitutes can wreak havoc.

Gerard Houllier used to preach that message when he was my manager at Liverpool. When he used to tell players they were going to be substitute, he would make a point of saying: ‘You have got 30 seconds to be disappointed, then you must be ready.’
He hated the idea that some individuals would sulk if they were not in the starting XI and would be furious if that led to a loss of focus. Houllier was adamant that substitutes would, more often than not, win you a game.

It also used to enrage Houllier if he saw any player on the bench not celebrating when Liverpool scored. He promoted the value of everyone being in it together and that came to my mind when I saw all of England’s players sprinting down the line to engulf Sturridge.
Even Harry Kane got involved. He could have easily stayed behind, having endured the disappointment of being taken off, but he was in the thick of it and that points to an outstanding team spirit.
When substitutes have the impact of Vardy and Sturridge, is a manager a tactical genius or did he get the team wrong from the start? The second part of that question was asked about Roy Hodgson in Lens but I couldn’t say he picked the wrong side.
Look at it another way: if Raheem Sterling and Joe Hart do what they are supposed to in the opening 45 minutes — convert a straightforward chance and keep out a shot in the middle of goal — England go into the interval leading 1-0 and no questions are asked about the selection.

How to Find the Best Topics to Talk About With a Girl

Step 1: Let Her Do the Talking

Even though a lot of guys try to impress the women they are dating with all kinds of things, that they don’t really want to hear, the truth is that women don’t want men who are constantly talking. On the one hand, it is far more attractive to be together with a guy who reveals a little bit about himself, while maintaining the image of a mysterious gentleman. The other reason why women don’t want you to talk all the time is because they absolutely love to talk about themselves.
When a woman sits next to a man who encourages her to tell him her whole life story she will do it.

The only problem is that a lot of women are afraid of scaring you away by talking too much. We all have seen the annoying chatterboxes in movies. She doesn’t want to appear like one of them. That’s why it is so important to tell her directly that you want to find out more about her and that you want her to talk.

The huge benefit of this approach is that you will have more potential conversation topics by listening to her for ten minutes than other guys by studying whole books.

“I really want to know what kind of person you are. Tell me a little bit about yourself.”

Even if you ask her to tell you a little bit about herself, she will probably tell you a lot. Some women use their monologues to tell you exactly what they like and dislike. Others need a helping hand to reveal those things.

Step 2: Find Out What She Likes
How do you find out what a girl likes?

Use the information she gives you and ask her deeper questions according to that topic.

Let’s say she tells you that she loves to have fun, but that she is also a very caring person. I think I don’t have to tell you that this information is extremely superficial. A girl who wants to have fun can have this feeling during a Group Intimacy party or while she is feeding her hamster Freddy.
You want more details and the best way to get those details is by asking the right questions:

“What are the things that you like to do for fun?”

“Is fun for you more about excitement or about contentment?”

“Is there someone in your life who you take care of right now?”

“What does it mean for you to be caring?”

The answers to those questions will reveal what she likes and why she likes it.

Congratulations, now you know how to find topics to talk about with girls. All you have to do now is to make sure that you won’t Bleep it up.

Talk to girls. Wherever you interact with women on a regular basis – work, school, clubs, or elsewhere – make an extra effort to engage in small talk with them. This will teach you that there is nothing to fear about talking to a girl, even if you have a crush on her.
Start with people you already interact with a little bit, like coworkers. Ask them how their week has been going, and use short questions to encourage them to talk more. Most girls will be glad to talk with you for a moment.
If a girl asks about your week after she's told you about hers, do the polite thing and tell her, in about the same level of detail she used when talking to you. (Leave out the fact that you're trying to get better at talking to girls.)
Be friendly with project partners. At school or during community service, you will often be paired with a partner. When your partner is a girl you don't know very well, a little geniality will go a long way towards making things comfortable for both of you.
Try talking about the project rather than asking about her. If she responds well, continue on, and mix in small talk and simple questions as you go along.
Don't ask her about herself or her life. Instead, ask her what she thinks of another person, such as the teacher, or an upcoming event you both know about.
Don't talk too often. Show that you're primarily interested in being helpful and completing your project together. Speak as thoughts come to you, rather than pushing the conversation along.

Make your approach. Whenever you see a good opportunity to speak to your crush alone for a moment, even if other people are around, step up and do it.
Get her attention. Call her name and wave at her while smiling. Look happy to see her.
Meet her. Start walking up as soon as she's acknowledged you. Don't wait for her to come over to where you are. Show you're proactive and confident by closing the distance yourself.
If she looks upset or bothered by your greeting, or tries to pretend she doesn't hear you, she won't ever be interested in you. Cut your losses and move on. You deserve someone who will be glad to see you.

How to Talk to a Girl You Like.

Talking to someone you're attracted to can be nerve-wracking, especially if you have no idea what you're doing. If you're having trouble communicating with your crush, read on and learn how to find your voice on Palmchat.

Develop your interests. You don't need to be a brain to find things to talk about, but you do need to have passions and interests. A person who can talk naturally about things he's interested in is always better conversation than someone armed with pre-written prompts and a vague hope of getting a date.
Make a short list. List everything you're interested in. Go for more detail rather than less. For example, instead of “music,” write “playing classical guitar, going to concerts, collecting old funk LPs.”
Expand the list into topics. Using the example above, you might think about what brand of guitar you own or rent versus the brand you wish you could have, what concerts you've been to, and what funk bands you enjoy.
Make a mental note of your opinion on each topic. This will help you to know yourself better. When you talk about any subject you have an interest in, you'll be able to speak confidently about it and explain why you're interested in it, which makes for good conversation.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is looking to become the first man to score at four European Championships when he plays this afternoon.
Can he reach that historic achievement with a goal against the Italians?
Sweden will certainly be hoping so, especially given their hugely disappointing display against the Republic of Ireland. The presence of John Guidetti may help Ibrahimovic to improve from that performance.

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque may decide to change things in his forward line after Alvaro Morata missed several chances against the Czech Republic.

Aritz Aduriz, who impressed off the bench, could come in and midfielder Thiago Alcantara is also pushing for a start.

Turkey coach Fatih Terim had two absentees in training this week.

Midfielder Mehmet Topal has an injury to his right leg and defender Gokhan Gonul has a stomach problem.

MATCH PREVIEW

The overwhelming feeling emanating from the Spain camp after their win over an obdurate Czech Republic side was one of sheer relief. Despite their recent success, it was the first time they had won the opening game of a European Championships or World Cup since Euro 2008. Getting three points on the board was vital for the squad's confidence.

However, it was a far from polished performance and did little to dispel pre-tournament fears that they lack the firepower to see teams off.

Turkey face an uphill battle to end a 62-year wait for a victory over Spain, especially given how disappointing they were in their opening defeat against Croatia. Coach Fatih Terim said that his team had "dropped physically" and they will need a significantly better display if they are to avoid going defeat.

They have come in for heavy criticism back home, with star man and captain Arda Turan singled out. The Barcelona player was hauled off after 65 minutes after an ineffectual display and subsequently went on Turkish television to apologise and ask for "forgiveness".

England 2-1 Wales: Martin Keown's big match ratings - Wayne Rooney leads the way as he pulls the strings in Lens

Daniel Sturridge and Jamie Vardy were Roy Hodgson's super subs as their second-half goals rescued a 2-1 win for England over Wales at Euro 2016.
With England trailing at half-time to Gareth Bale's outrageous free-kick, the two strikers were introduced at the break and made the difference.
Vardy soon levelled the game up before Sturridge struck in added time to win the game.

ENGLAND
JOE HART: Joe will be disappointed with his error for Bale’s goal. He’s a top keeper and after the Welshman scored with a very similar effort against Slovakia, he should have seen this coming. 5
KYLE WALKER: One of England’s best players, along with Rooney. He really carried the fight for us with his superb drive and energy down the right. I’ve not seen a better right back at this competition. 8
CHRIS SMALLING: He is really growing into his role as a senior England player and his understanding with Cahill is improving. Neither centre half had a great deal to do, but they dealt with what came along. 7
GARY CAHILL: I can't fault either of the centre halves and Cahill looked very composed. They came out on top in their battles with Robson-Kanu and also nipped Wales’s counter-attacking in the bud. 7
DANNY ROSE: Rose was solid defensively and I love his tenacity and positive mentality. Needs to work on his quality in the final third, though, and could perhaps get forward even more.7

ERIC DIER: Has become important to England’s solidity. Does an excellent job in front of the back four and used his pace to good effect. Would like to see him show more creativity with his passing. 7
DELE ALLI: Great energy and was willing to break. With him alongside Rooney and Dier, we have a bit of everything in midfield. It was reassuring to see him running back to tackle Bale, too. 7.5
WAYNE ROONEY (captain): Was excellent pulling the strings and I think we take him for granted. The way he punched the ball from sideline to sideline reminded me of Paul Scholes, and it was punishing for Wales. 8.5
ADAM LALLANA: Showed good creativity and linked well. Did unseen work in winning the ball back, but it was the right call to take him off. May come under pressure for his place from Vardy or Rashford. 7.5
DANIEL STURRIDGE (on for Kane at HT): Took a while to get into the game, firing a few efforts off target, but never lacks confidence. Superb footwork for the goal — no way he should have been able to score from where he started. 7.5
JAMIE VARDY (on for Sterling at HT): His hot streak in front of goal — and his fairy-tale season — continues. Showed excellent predatory instinct in the box. Gives Roy a headache whether to start him against Slovakia. 7

STARTERS
HARRY KANE (off for Sturridge at half-time): 5.5
RAHEEM STERLING (off for Vardy at half-time): 5
SUBSTITUTE: MARCUS RASHFORD (for Lallana 73): 7
ROY HODGSON: Roy could see his players had lost their way in the first half and I was impressed with his decisiveness to change things at half-time. Gave his team belief. 7.5

WALES
WAYNE HENNESSEY: He had a painkilling injection in his back before the game and did well to put in a solid performance. Made a good save from Rooney and didn’t really have a chance with either goal. 7
CHRIS GUNTER: Will be disappointed he was outmuscled by Sturridge for the winner when he could have saved his side. Remains an important player and got forward well to support attacks. 6
JAMES CHESTER: Solid performance. Kept his discipline and pinched the ball off England’s forwards a few times, though he struggled to bring the ball out of defence in the way he did against Slovakia. 7

ASHLEY WILLIAMS (captain): He will wonder if he could have prevented his header falling to Vardy for equaliser but I’m not sure there was a lot he could have done. Made a couple of really good challenges. 7.5
BEN DAVIES: Tough afternoon with most of England’s attack coming down his side, but he kept his shape well. Lucky to get away with two handball appeals around the box. 6
NEIL TAYLOR: Had a chasing by Walker and suffered for having no protection in front of him. Once Walker realised he was quicker, he kept darting to the byline and outpaced Taylor time after time. 5.5
JOE LEDLEY: It was remarkable he made it on to the pitch at all after his broken leg, let alone the starting XI. Struggled with the pace of the game but could not have done much more for Wales. 6
JOE ALLEN: One of Wales’s better ball-players but they couldn’t get the ball to him as much as they would have liked. Outnumbered in midfield with Sterling and Lallana moving inside. 6.5
AARON RAMSEY: Typified Wales’s gallant effort. He was everywhere, making a real nuisance of himself by closing down England’s midfielders and defenders. Good on the ball — where he has improved a lot. 7.5

HAL ROBSON-KANU: Battled manfully against Cahill and Smalling and chased a lot of loose balls. Bought free-kicks to relieve pressure and won a couple of balls he had no right to. 6.5
GARETH BALE: I don’t know what he was doing shooting from there! It should have been saved but take nothing away from his free-kick. It took a tag-team operation by England to stifle his threat. 7.5

SUBSTITUTES:
DAVID EDWARDS 6
JONNY WILLIAMS 6
CHRIS COLEMAN: He didn’t have a lot of say in his team’s goal, but he makes Bale and Ramsey feel 10 feet tall. He will be gutted they couldn’t see the job through, though. 6
REFEREE - FELIX BRYCH: Did well to spot that Williams's header meant Vardy wasn't offside. Let the game flow – it’s always a good sign when you don’t notice the referee! 8
