Mayowa95:Chairman......did you mean...how you can apply for the scholarship that just ended in Jamaica or how you can apply for the one that is yet to be launched in Nigeria? Either ways.........LMAO.......would share updates as I get them. You can also listen to BBC radio at all times to get infos like this. |
@Okijajuju1.........LOL |
The sensational American rap artiste 2Chainz made a statement some time ago; about organising a scholarship program for students in the US, NIGERIA and JAMAICA. However, several people thought this was a media stunt despite the fact that he supported the claims Live on BBC radio during an interview. So far, the aforesaid scholarship program has been unveiled in Jamaica and 65 students out of a total of 135 students who applied for the program; got rewarded with a scholarship grant of $2,000 each (over 300,000 naira equivalent). Below are some pictures as gathered from the program which took place in August, as it even had the presence of Usain Bolt to spark up the reward presentation event and also to motivate the attendees with some inspirational words. The American rapper himself however, made another media statement on BBC pertaining to this so as to buttress his intentions; "No one believed it at first, but I guess they all needed to stick around a bit before they got to realize its true. Just as we did good to all those kids in Jamaica, we are going to be doing same in Nigeria in a couple of months time. I can say we are ready for that. I just hope they turn up for this 'cos the turn up in Jamaica wasn't much apparently 'cos its the first time such is happening under my watch. I hope they come out big time next time 'cos regardless of their numbers, there is enough to go round for all." When asked why the rapper wasn't at the event, he said; "I have been doing quite a number of shows lately, and its a hell of a demand. But I have the program in capable hands, so I am rest assured its going be having a smooth ride nonetheless. Besides, I gotta be here to do the shows so I could have enough to go round out there (says with a laugh)". The program handlers however obliged a local Jamaican TV station; their presence, to discuss the achievements of the program introduced by the renowned rapper. This is indeed a good news to Nigerian University, Polytechnic and College of Education students...#Anticipate GET UPDATES ON THIS SCHOLARSHIP VIA SMS AND EMAIL FOR FREE HERE: http://fs30.formsite.com/ScholarshipAlertNairaland/corperscorner/index.html UPDATE - Still waiting for this as we havent heard anything.....abi oga chainz don change hin mind?

kayusbrown:That is exactly where the government is supposed to step in and sharpen the edges. But instead, what do they do? nothing. Basically, what they are concerned about is the funds being generated from these institutions. Little wonder why they only get to reach an agreement on paying the salary of lecturers whenever a strike action goes out of bound. Selfishness still retains its way in this issue. |

kayusbrown:Dont keep us waiting for too long...lol ![]() |
kayusbrown:The madness had since gone out of hand. Apparently, what makes the matter worse is the useless rants amongst their university counterparts; who claim they are superior. Superior in what sense? that they feel insecure should the inequality be abolished or that they do not look inwards to develop themselves and instead, hope on securing a white-collar job in an establishment that was probably set-up by a layman who never attended any institution. People are just not ready to embrace the truth. I must say, during my stay at the polytechnic, I was made to take courses like Chemistry and Psychology despite being a Business administration student. All that was just to keep us in the know of things happening across other spheres. I am not a computer programmer, but the ICT orientation I had alongside my course in the Polytechnic, has gotten me exposed to things that any programmer or web designer just can't come out to speak jargons to me. I was given exposure to stuffs. Show me the Universities that offer courses like Chemistry/Physics to students studying Business Administration at the moment; before telling me about standards. I have been to both. I know what true standard is. The Government is just not serious. |
This thing has been going on for years and here we are, still contemplating the outcome of one ridiculous hearing at the house of assembly. Whatever they come up with wouldn't alter the future of a determined youth. Just so you would know. Its time we all face this as ONE. How would the bsc holders have felt if they had been the ones being discriminated against? |
Whether its a bsc, phd, msc or hnd. I support the notion that what really matters most is individual development. Without it, there is a limit to what one can attain in life even with an Harvard doctorate. Education is different from certification. Seun Osewa is a living example. Nigeria has had thousands of computer science graduates that keep coming out to discriminate their fellow counterpart from the polytechnic, but the question is...to what end. None of them can say they've attained a feet such as Nairaland. If anyone here has. I dare the person to come out and share the success story or invention. It goes beyond going to school and getting a certificate. Look deep within yourselves. Apparently, that piece is highly encouraged at polytechnics. |
The recent media sprout pertaining to the long lasted discrimination between holders of Bsc and Hnd degrees have successfully passed through to the second reading in the House Of Assembly. However, the nobel Laurette; Professor Wole Soyinka was invited to Channels TV to share his opinion on the aforesaid issue. And he gave clarification on the matter by saying the Government is the root cause of the discrimination sprouting across all industries. "Basically, looking at this, one would agree the cut off marks for these institutions are clearly not the same. But who sets these cut off marks? What would it cost the Government to ensure the appropriate bodies charged with the sole responsibility of setting the yardsticks into these institutions; get to review the measures. These are pertinent things we shy away from. I can tell you I have been across products from both institutions and you should know they both produce quacks and good products. So its a question of individual development to an extent. But as regards the nomenclature of the divide. Most people claim, perhaps if the Government can put in facilities to upgrade the polytechincs, maybe they can measure up. But that is pure rubbish. When was the last time facilities were installed in universities across the nation? All these rants need to stop, because its like planting a seed of enmity among these two categories of students. When reliance is totally placed on a government on issues like this, the society fails to move forward. I personally think its high time students across both divides started looking forward to what they can do for themselves as individuals than what some certificate can do for you. Geniuses are made and not born, but apparently, we have a government that isn't ready to scrutinize the frustrations being caused by the educational sector to these children at the early stage. When I pass Jamb a couple of times but refused admission several times at the university just because I didn't make them both my first choice and second choice, won't I opt for a polytechnic. Or must I keep trying till I wield grey hair? We need to think deep about these things. The government has really neglected its checks and balances on that. A BSC holder and an Hnd holder should be equal given that they were both able to squarely take-on whatever that was thrown at them during their cause of study." He was quoted saying these words Live on Channels TV. Perhaps its time we rethink the whole fracas we are brewing across threads on this topic. |
This argument is totally unnecessary... I am surrounded by university graduates, of which, none of them is yet to secure a job at the moment. Now, they are thinking of starting a joint business venture, printing of recharge cards to be precise. Bliv me, they will be the last set of BSC graduates to join in this type of conversation 'cos they haven't achieved anything tangible with the so called BSC. However, you guys should realize that those that attended polytechnics never intended that for themselves. So, if you really want to take out your frustration on anyone, blame the government and the mediocre educational administration. I maintain my stance that Bsc/Hnd are just certificates. What makes you unique is your personal drive and development. Plus....I have had the best of both worlds, and I can say from where I am right now. Polytechnic graduates are being continually discriminated despite their exposure to a more sophisticated learning environment. If you come across a polytechnic graduate who graduated with distinction. Then perhaps, he or she might let you know its like a jungle where you are being taught to hunt and not get fed by some hands. |
Be jonzing yourselves..... In the Nigeria of today, the most reliable employers (banks) will take you in based on a different kind of merit that would not put your course of study into consideration. I personally know someone who studied theatre arts and has made it to the top in one of the leading banks today; earning 7 figures. If we are talking about personal development and entrepreneurship. I'd rather Business Administration or Marketing. But the problem with the youths of nowadays is; when they hear Marketing, the first thought they get is "I'll go from place to place in search of customers" NO. Its not that way. Everyone does a form of marketing or the other. Thanks to social media, it has made things quite convenient for everyone. Think twice pals. |
Wow. |
Honestly! I don't know what to say to this. But its funny.....how our politicians behave. Like primary school kids. The metaphor is killing though 'cos a sunflower seems to be the true YELLOW I know. Lol |
Obanikoro who recently paraded himself as the hopeful Governor of Lagos state made a wreckless statement insinuating Bola Ahmed Tinubu's teeth is more yellow than a sunflower. "How would you believe words uttered by one Jagaban who speaks and kills houseflies with his aura whenever he does. Even a sunflower would struggle to be yellow wherever his teeth stands." He was quoted saying this while his supporters rejoiced and clapped for him as he continued his speech. What is your take concerning this politics of "abuse your opponents" being practiced in this country? |
