SportsIt’s Coming Home To Rome, Italians In England Predict Euro Victory by Cossybob(op): 7:54am On Jul 10, 2021
Were it not for the grey skies and threat of rain as they sip espressos and talk football outside La Piazza Caffè, Luciano Lambiase and his friends could be in Naples or Rome.

But the retired factory engineer, 66, and his boyhood friends Pasquale Spadaccino and Franco Bulzis, both 73, are discussing the upcoming Euro 2020 final in the southern English town of Bedford, home to one of the country’s largest Italian communities.

“It’s coming home to Rome,” Lambiase told AFP, predicting that his national team would beat England in the 2020 UEFA European Football Championship final at Wembley on Sunday.

“It’s always been a mystery to us what ‘It’s Coming Home’ means,” he added, referring to the popular anthem written by comedians David Baddiel and Frank Skinner that England fans sing at games.

“This is the first time they’ve played in a (Euro) final, and we’ve won four world cups,” he added.

Liberato “Libby” Lionetti, 55, who runs La Piazza in Bedford’s market square and whose customers include fans in England shirts, was more diplomatic in his predictions.

Hoping for a modest 1-0 win for Italy, he said that whatever happens, football was “definitely coming home to Bedford”.
Ahead of the game, the atmosphere in the town was “very tense, everybody’s excited”, Lionetti said.

Whatever the rivalries during the game, afterwards “everything will be all right”, he added.

“It’s only that 90 minutes, or however long it takes for your team to win. And then that’s it and the next day is another day. You just get on with it.”

The older men drinking coffee outside the cafe said they hoped the match would pass without incident.

But they acknowledged that a final between Italy and England brings back memories of the abuse they suffered as young men at international games in the 1960s and 70s.

Lambiase, Spadaccino and Bulzis arrived in Bedford as children in 1956 after their fathers left Italy’s southern Campania region to work in the town’s then-flourishing brick-making industry.

PoliticsSecurity Agencies: Ruthless On Agitators, Pampering Bandits, Killer Herdsmen by Cossybob(op): 7:18am On Jul 10, 2021
Secessionist agitations and insecurity are rising across the country but security agencies’ approach to tackling them appears divisive, ADELANI ADEPEGBA reports
A notorious bandit operating within the precincts of Zamfara State forest recently boasted about his operations and exploits against the Nigerian military.

In a trending video, the bandit who was identified by his alias, Dankarami, was holding a rifle while surrounded by a crowd.

He granted an interview to some persons suspected to be government officials, including policemen. In the video which lasted four minutes, 40 seconds, the dreadlocked bandit was heard boasting about his ambushes against military convoys in Zamfara State.

Narrating his deadly exploits, Dankarami said, “After three months, they brought in soldiers and took them to Dumburum. I allowed them. My house was under the road they passed; I let them.

“I relocated my wives and stayed alone with my boys. One evening, on the fourth day, on their way from Gusau, I dealt with them (soldiers).

“They sent another team and I killed half of them. Another evening, they ambushed my brothers who were bringing me supplies and seized their motorcycles. They joined forces with Niger State. I dealt with them. I’m still here till tomorrow.“No one can arrest me unless I let them. Whatever they (my boys) want to do, they won’t do until I say so. The other day, they went to Zurmi and kidnapped children, small children. I was sleeping at home; they said there were 40 people. I took them back. Since our parents pleaded with us to return the children, did we collect a single naira? Did anyone give us anything?

Apart from Dankarami who relished the killing of security operatives and abduction of innocent people, there are hundreds of other gun-wielding outlaws holding sway in different forests in the North whom the government has tacitly given the licence to kill, steal and destroy.

In Katsina State, bandits have killed over 1,500 citizens, and rustled thousands of livestock while Governor Aminu Masari appears helpless.

He had been pictured with various bandit leaders, who, after collecting huge sums, abandon the so-called amnesty offered by his administration.

The Secretary to the Katsina State Government, Mustapha Inuwa, revealed in July 2020, that the government spent N30m on the last failed amnesty programme.

The fund was used to buy surrendered weapons from ‘repentant bandits’ who went back into crime after deceiving the government.

Five months after vowing never to negotiate again with the bandits, Masari hosted two gang leaders, 30-year-old Sale Turwa and 33-year-old Muhammed Sani Maidaji at the Government House.
Promising a change of heart, the two men surrendered 10 AK-47 rifles to the governor during the meeting which was also attended by the heads of security agencies in the state, including the police, the Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Speaking at the state police command headquarters last month, the governor asked the residents to defend themselves, noting that the people should not rely on the security agencies to protect them.

Not a few Nigerians were annoyed by the statement from a man who was elected and paid to protect his people.

Rather than tackle the bandits, the Muhammadu Buhari regime appears to be indirectly encouraging an Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, to meet with the bandits frequently.

The cleric has been demanding amnesty for the hoodlums, while also suggesting that they should be engaged to guard the forests.

In Zamfara, rampaging bandits have prevented farmers from going to their farms. This has worsened the famine situation in the state.

The state governor, Bello Mattawalle, hobnobbed with the outlaws, gave them vehicles and money in what appeared like futile efforts to buy them off.Sadly, reports have since indicated that the bandits have been using the donated resources to further their noxious business.

While the government and security agencies are pampering the outlaws who have become more emboldened, the regime has been going after propagators of secession in the country, especially in the South.

Many Nigerians thought the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN, was about announcing a major breakthrough in the security crisis facing the nation during his hastily arranged press conference a few days ago.

But an apparently happy and satisfied Malami had something else to share.

Sitting behind a battery of microphones, the Minister of Justice triumphantly disclosed that security agencies had apprehended Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra. The news which was short on details brewed speculations on how and where he was arrested and the manner of his extradition.

Some applauded the government for apprehending the Biafra leader, but a huge number of Nigerians argued that the Federal Government should focus on the urgent security situation instead of chasing gnats while the nation implodes.

Mass abductions of students and large-scale killings have assumed pandemic proportions under the Muhammadu Buhari regime.
About 110 female students of the Government Girls’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State were kidnapped on February 19, 2018; on December 11, 2020, over 300 students of the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State were abducted by bandits.

CrimeOgun Okada Rider Stabs Tricyclist To Death Over Right Of Way by Cossybob(op): 6:48am On Jul 10, 2021
A commercial motorcycle rider well known as okada rider, Denis Nwambam, has been arrested for the alleged murder of a tricycle rider, Wasiu Osinowo, in the Matogun area of Ogun State.

Nwambam reportedly stabbed Osinowo to death in a fight over right of way while they were both plying the road around 11pm on Wednesday.

City Round learnt that Nwambam and Osinowo had struggled over right of way, leading to an exchange of words.

Some minutes later, Osinowo was said to have flagged down Nwambam along the road and challenged him to a duel during which the latter stabbed him in the stomach. He reportedly bled to death.

It was gathered that the police at the Agbado division were alerted to the incident and the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Kuranga Yero, led a team to the scene to arrest the suspect.

On Thursday, some angry youths reportedly took Osinowo’s corpse to the police station and demanded that Nwambam be released to them.

A resident, Deji Gabriel, told our correspondent that it took the intervention of some elders in the community to prevail on the protesters.

He said, “The deceased’s friends protested at the station. They brought his corpse and demanded that the suspect should be released to them. It was a community leader called Fatai Asiwaju and others who pacified them. They later left with the corpse.”

Narrating what transpired that night, Nwambam, a 36-year-old father of three, admitted to have stabbed Osinowo but said it was not intentional.

He said, “The man (Osinowo) and I were coming from the same direction. He was riding a tricycle while I was riding a motorcycle. He nearly hit me and I cautioned him to keep to his lane. We exchanged words and parted ways. I didn’t know he and his friends had gone to lay in ambush for me.

“As I approached the spot where they were, they descended on me and beat me up. I abandoned my bike and fled. They chased me to a bar and I picked up a knife to defend myself. I just held the knife. He wanted to get hold of me when the knife struck him in the stomach. That was what happened.”

CrimePolice Allegedly Torture 33-year Old Breadwinner To Death In Bauchi by Cossybob(op): 6:37am On Jul 10, 2021
A 33-year old breadwinner has allegedly been tortured to death by a combined team of policemen attached to the Yelwa Division and a vigilante group in Bauchi State.

Saturday PUNCH learnt that the deceased, Dauda Danladi, was arrested by the team of security agents in front of his shop located in Yelwa Kagadama, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis around 9pm on Thursday.

He was said to have been taken to the Yelwa Division, where he was allegedly tortured to death.

When our correspondent visited the house around 6pm on Friday, family members and several sympathisers were seen weeping.

An eyewitness, Liatu Nuhu, who sells groundnut milk and rice gruel close to the shop of the deceased said the police and the vigilante arrived in Gestapo style and started arresting people indiscriminately.

Nuhu said, “I was doing my business when, suddenly, the police and some vigilantes came, more than 10 of them, and started arresting people. The Divisional Police Officer got out of the vehicle and directed them, ‘Arrest him! Arrest him!’

“And that was how they arrested the boys playing snooker, others who were chatting and the deceased who was standing in front of his shop. We kept telling them not to arrest him, we told them that he was our neighbour here and we knew him to be someone of good character. We asked why they would arrest him, but they still took him away....Readmore

EducationRe: What Is The Worst University Course To Study? by Cossybob(m):
Damn nigga
It's political science for me
I don't know why we need to study that course in Nigeria, the course is a theory itself and it doesn't have anything to do with the practical aspect of life, you can't further your education abroad cos it's a whole different theory there...
Again, studying a political science doesn't guarantee you to any public office I mean don't think because you have a BSc certificate in political science so you are eligible to be in a public position, other BSc degree holders are also entitled to hold a position in the public. Political science needs to be scrapped ASAP, not useful not useful

Thinkfree:
political science and sociology which one is better?
To be honest with you, they are almost the same, it's best you study something that deals alot with the practical aspect of life

A doctorate degree holder in medicine and law can aspire to be the next president While a doctorate degree holder in political science can't legally own a hospital or a court
