Any Nigerian who celebrates this either has a very short memory or does not know the history of athletics in Nigeria.

At a time, Nigeria was considered a major force in international athletics. We were actually at par with countries like Jamaica, Barbados etc. America actually feared us at short distance events, this fear was actually bought to the fore then when American Olympic medallist Carl Lewis called on American Universities to stop giving sport scholarships to Nigerian athletes as we were becoming a major threat to them.

This is a country that once paraded the likes of Chidi Imoh, Innocent Egbunike, Olapade Adenekan, Fati Ogunkoya, Seun Ogunkoya, Bisi Afolabi, Mary Onyali, Akinremi Sisters and many more I cant even remember now. These were all winners and medal haulers for Nigeria at international events. We once had two Nigerians in the finals of the olympics 100m mens event. We were sure of carting away medals at any event we went to. Foreign countries like Portugal and Spain were poaching our stars.

But now the situation is very bad. A friend of mine, a former athlete went to the Mobil track and field event that was used to select our reps at this world championships. He came back very sad and told me that the time that the guy who won the mens 100m had would not have qualified him for the finals of the same event some 10 to 15 years ago. And you guys are celebrating 5th position?

This only shows the level we have degenrated to.

Check university of lethbridge, university of manitoba and university of regina. The states with the cheapest tuition in canada are alberta, manitoba, saskachewan, new foundland. I suggest you check the universities in those states if they offer HRM. I hope you have a 2.1 sha or your gpa is very close to 2.1.
