Abeg o, those that did their industrial training (SIWES IT) in 2014, have you been paid your IT allowance?
Cos some said that they have been paid; I need the money too no matter how small it is

Do they really pay IT students? I have always head speculations about that, yet from my first year until my fourth year when I actually carried-out my IT and graduated a year after till date, I have not met anyone (including myself) who claimed he/she has been paid.

Its always the same old stories.... THEY HAVE PAID SOME PEOPLE. So then, who and where are these some people that we can't meet by face?

I have always suspected that the people at the helm of affairs of SIWES are responsible for this propaganda as a way of protecting their reputation.

I don't think that is a good idea. Whatsapp has many limitations in comparism to this forum. Some of them include:
1. Communication is limited to your jurisdiction -people with your contact.HOW ABOUT OTHERS WHO DO NOT AND ARE NOT WILLING TO HAVE YOUR CONTACT?
2. You cannot easily recall pages in Whatsapp as with this forum
3. Joining a group often a times is limited to the goodwill of the Administrator whereas in this forum, you can decide not join (like I formally did) but still keep in touch with the times.
4. Not many of us like the idea of getting disturbed by update from Whatsapp group members (if you've ever join a group of 30 - 50 people, you'll understand what I mean, let alone the population in Golden City)
5. etc.

THAT TO ME IS A NO-GO AREA!

I don't think that was only what he meant. He was giving a date when they may consider uploading a finished job.

As a matter of fact, they were doing that in the office. So there is a tendency that if you check inbetween, you may smile sooner than Thursday

Latest updates from school....
A lot of people has issue with their name been misspelt,Jamb no wrongly written and some had ommission problem(their name is not on the list at all).
For those that want to do correction on one thing or the other, we've(myself included cos my jamb no was not completely filled) been attended to and the correction has been done! For those that had ommission issue, their case is presently on going as the DSA staffs are doing everything possible to make sure that nobody is sidelined.
According to the vice dean of the DSA who is personally supervising the whole work,they are suppose to have gone to Abuja with the final list for uploading but because of various complains,they are chilling to today. By tomorrow, they will be on their way to Abuja...However,he didn't say when they will upload the list on the NYSC portal.
Finally,make we just dey chillaz and wait for them to upload the list afterall we have 2weeks for that but I hope they do it before the end of this week.

Did I hear you say we have two weeks for the upload? I thought 30th January 2016 (which happens to be on Saturday) is the last day for schools to have student's data uploaded?

Conventionally, Matric. No. starts with the year of admission - which usually are numbers. If that be the case, then there is no call for alarm.
But whether or not it is an issue,it is adviceable to visit your DSA and lay necessary complains.

Green card is what you print out after you register and pay the 3k. Endeavour to print it coloured cos the words their are written in green colour.

My brother, this is the same line of thought I was expressing to my neighbour. He insist I will be wasting money given the fact that I am in the same City as my school, when obviously I know how Unical procrastinate over vital things

Yes. If u pay the 3k, u will print your Green card with ur call up number on it. If u didnt pay the 3k, u will check ur call up number in sch when NYSC sends it, it may be after the closing date for registration and b4 call up letters arrive.

I guess most people that ve seen their names online ve really felt elated and are seriously thinking positive. Hopefully, others will see their names soonest esp my FUTO brothers. H/ever, there are oda stages that can bring out the laughter or anger in you. Hopefully it will be laughter ( lets be positive) . They are:

1) After succesfully registering and u receive ur call up no: After getting ur Call up number u re 80% assured of ur 7/7 uniform. I guess u will start shopping with happiness after that ( remember the experience could change if that ur Uncle in the village is too stubborn ).

2) When you get ur posting letter : This is actually the most anticipated part of ur service year, as many will be hoping on Abj or Lag as it is normally called or 042 ( Enugu) or even Akwa Ibom ayaya or my dearest Calabar ( because many people think Cross river state is all about Calabar not knowing that its just the capital) or Kano or the oil rich Portharcourt. H/ever, that letter can actually fulfil your months of dream or give you nightmares before eventually heading to camp. We pray the former will be your portion though.

3) When you arrive at Orientation camp: I will actually not say much here because i believe experience is the best teacher. H/ever i will simply define the orientation camp as a regimented area. It can be fun if u are resilient and obedient but no matter what, you must surely check your calender.

4) When you get registered after thumprinting in Camp: Hitherto, this was no big deal until the new thumbprinting scanner was introduced. You will actually not value passing this stage until u see sbd that travelled all the way from Lagos to Calabar and has posted he is serving in Calabar on facebook only to be sent out of camp cos his thumbprint didnt match that on the database. I think only NYSC headquatres in Abuja has the solution to this. Please don't allow anybody thumbprint for you during registration unless your parents wanna force you to serve and Real Madrid wanna sign you this summer.

5) When you get ur Internal posting letter: For me, i ve always taken this as the most important aspect of NYSC as you will spend about 10 months at ur PPA. No matter, whether you are in Abuja, Akwaibom, Cross river, Enugu, Lagos or the prestigious industrial Kano, if u get a bad PPA in a bad location , a person serving in Ebonyi, Osun, Kwara, or Jigawa with a good PPA will enjoy the service yr more than you.

6) Arriving at your PPA: Actually, most PPAs, capitals, Locations are actually over rated or under rated. The happiness or sadness you experienced when you got ur internal posting letter may not be same when you get to ur PPA. It is actually subject to change.

As for the rainy season in Calabar, just get prepared with
1. a family sized portable umbrella that can fit into a bag,
2. good leather shoes that can withstand being soaked in water,
3. good leather bag for hand luggage,
4. additional clothings and inner wears that can serve you for 2 weeks if possible
5. et al

because most times it rains here like in Noah's time; i.e., it could rain round the clock continuously for a week or more. And in addition to the poor drainage system in many places, if you are not prepared at all times, frustration from waiting for the rain to subside can steal your productivity for days and even weeks, while the smart informed ones are making ways through with it.

GET PREPARED FOR AN UNCONTROLLABLE RAINING EXPERIENCE!
