Nigeria is a funny country.we will never do the right thing unless it involves an influential person.ohh this is the reason why investigations are been lunched on airport officials. Some many innocent souls have gone down just like that but as usual they are sons and daughters of nobody ,so they deserved it.let us all condemn evil even if it's not directed at us because we don't know when it will be our turn. |

I will like to commend the writer of this great piece of art. I came across a post where a guy was criticizing this work but he wasn't constructive in his criticism. I might not be a professional writer or an editor but no one can convince me that this particular work is not a great work.I enjoy your work and always look forward to your updates. Just keep doing what you are doing and at the same time keep on improving on your art. If we continue to wait to be perfect before we can write then we may never write.we can never allow what happened in the past where our fore father's failed to pass down their knowledge and thoughts down to the next generation or wait for the white men to dictate to us about our own philosophy and thoughts or even allow men like Hegel and co to tell us that Africa has no philosophy and thought. Let us tell our story in Africa context if we can. Once again keep on keeping on. 4 Likes 1 Share |

tactius: Inasmuch as I don't condone neglignence, there are a lot of issues with this story
1.Exactly what illness brought her husband to the hospital?? Was it something that could have been treated?? What was the prognosis?
I am asking this quesiton because oxygen is not given as a cure all...it is given as a part of what we call 'supportive management'. Patients have died on oxygen not because it was lacking but because their illness was terminal.
2.Doctors and nurses are not responsible for oxygen...it is the hospital's procurement unit. And this being a government hopsital...they probably did not have enough cash to buy enough oxygen
The thing is, we spend less than one trillion naira for over a 100 government owned hospitals. Recently, the head of one teaching hospital was quoted as saying that he gets six million for overheads...while the actual cost is 11million. Where is he going to get five million from.??
In my opinion, government should privatise tertiary healthcare and make primary and secondary health care its focus.
3.
I am a doctor, and I have told patient';s relatives several times 'there is nothing we can do'. Let me tell you of two such times
The first time was to the parents, and then grandparents of a newborn baby who ended up with severe brain damage due to obstructed labour. The child was rushed to the teaching hospital where i was with severe diffculties. If we had a ventilatior for infants, the child could have survived...but the thing is, the child would have been severely disabled...and may have died eventually. Telling the relaitons was the hardest thing I ever had to do...and it still hurts to this day, some ten years later.
Another time was a girl with a dilated cardiomyopathy. Heart was just a flabby mass...could not pump well. Everything had been done..all she needed was a heart transplant...not available in Nigeria. She died. 22 years. I nearly broke down.
Some of you people who insult and curse us doctors don't know that each death affects us too...and there are some we remember, even years later. And there are times when a patient, in grief...like the relation who blamed us for her mother's death...her mother's kidneys had failed...she was on lifesaving dialysis when she died on the machine...and it was all our fault. (We did everything by the book).
So, to the guy who said that the woman should slap us....well, I cannot hate you or curse you. All I can promise you is that we will continue to do our best regardless of the condtion. I do not expect your thanks when we succed...it is my job, and a postman does not celebrate when he delivers the mail...so therefore I won't celebrate when I save a life.
I love my work as a doctor. I have run , shouted, advocated, spent money for, cried over, lost my social life, worsened my health, so that patients can be comfortable, and lives can be saved. I am prepared to keep on working long hours, to keep on fighting, to keep on suffering, even if I do not get your gratitude, even if you slap me.....because it is my job, and if I and my colelagues walked away, things would be much worse....much much worse.
Every death affects me, and every death hurts me. I always find myself going over the possibilites. What could we have done,? What could have been done.? Sometimes I blame msyelf, and sometimes I never stop blaming myself. Sometimes I cry, sometimes, I cannot stop crying.
But that is the job. Some body has to do it.
So, I;ll keep doing it.
Thank you and good evening. thanks doc for your insight on this issue.if you chake my post well you will see when I mentioned that their are still good doctors out there and from what you said I could deduce you are one of such.I won't mention any name of a hospital here but the truth is that their are somany reported cases of doctors negligence in our country.some are so snuhish, the humiliation they give to patients and relations is so grave.most especially to peaple they see as poor ones. Once again thanks, and continue with your good work. |

PeacenLove2: The problem is not limited to Nigerian Actors Guild. The whole nation has a health crisis. People are dying of absolutely treatable diseases.
Some ailments especially those who come naturally with ageing, with the poor health care and health insurance system, everybody is vulnerable. This is a nation with high rate of poverty which means in an unfortunate event of coming down with these diseases, it's an instant death sentence or one resorts to begging for fund.
It is so inhumane to have to go through that, friends and family members feeling useless and hopeless. It goes back to this government. Health care has to be made priority. If the proper facilities were available in our own country, maybe treatment won't be so expensive and more people will be able to afford their own care. But this that people resort to in order to survive, not sustainable and a threat to the idea of human dignity. It is very unfortunate. God help us. Thanks for your insight on this issue, the nations health sector is indeed in a state of emergency just as most other sectors.if only the government of the day will sincerely do something about the health sector.back to the issue at hand.what you don't undastand is that we Nigerians can take advantage of situations.don't be suprise if this whole issue continues like this peaple who can afford their bills will still come online to beg simply because Mr A and B got assistance. Another funny thing about all these is that peaple who in one way or the other in the past, who ought to have contributed in the development of the health sector will now come as a messiah just for political intrest or public praise.sometimes when I remember about my kid and other kids out there I will be scared for their future.I really pray for a better Nigeria and I think we can only get there when we do away with religious and tribal sentiments.may God guide and protect us.one love. |

The way this whole celebrity sickness in Nigeria is going is very wrong o.let me make it clear that am not against peaple who are willing to help, but it's really getting out of hand.the actors guide should do something about the health insurance of its members.what happens to the common man who is not a celebrity. If everyone who is sick comes online for financial assistance that means we will loose count.I wish him quick recovery. |

MissRaine69: How do fellow insomniacs cope? I can stay awake for three days easily, not keen to explore pharmaceuticals been down that road it causes more problems than its worth. Ideas welcome. I have been there.I was almost going mad.it took me weeks to get back to my normal life.I never took any sleeping pills.it's a gragual process but if you try this steps you might be ok.make your bedroom a sleeping place and very clean and conducive. What I mean by sleeping place is don't spend too much time in your bedroom.make sure once you are there it's for sleeping and the room needs to be clean and sezy. You also need to rely on good musics at night.get a good earpiece and music's you like but let it be low turn.music they say is food for the soul. You can also try reading novels while listening to your music's.it will help you alot.and remember don't go to bed too early. Their is this vitamin c our family doctor prescribed for me then.it's 10 or so in a container and you disolve it in a cup of water.you must take it once daily but it must be before 4pm. Another thing that helped me during this period is camomile tea.I got it from shop right then.I use to take it about an hour before going to bed.this tea can go with 3 to 2 spoon Of original honey.it work like magic. I must tell you it's a gragual process.the first day or time will experience about an hour or some munutes sleep.don't panic.if you want any questions or to talk you can ask for my contact.I wish you all the best. |
