The point being that it was America's entry to the war that gave the Allied actors a break.

The Nazi were already in Russia, occupying their cities except for the strength they showed in Stalingrad where about 16 or so German Generals were eliminated.
This is not to say the Germans had won though. More like a stalemate between Hitler and Josef Stalin.
