Please enlighten me:

Are there any charges/costs for making deposits or withdrawals from Domiciliary accounts? Do any of these Domiciliary accounts earn interest?

Born again christians still sin because

2: you still have the root of sin in you that can only be removed tru sanctification of ur heart......not all churches know about the 3 christian experiences. Salvation, sanctification and the baptism of the holy spirit confirmed with speaking in a new tongue and not gibberish( a language spoken on this earth)

@ Adjoviomole,

You mention in number 2 that the root of sin is removed through sanctification of the heart. Does this mean the person now attains "sinless perfection"?

Business / Re: $20billion Dollars Idle In Few Individual's Domiciliary Accounts-cbn by Crownvillar: 2:48pm On Mar 05, 2016
Please note, that not all of this $20bn is stolen money. For example, I opened a Domiciliary account on a whim, about 7 years ago when I holidayed in Nigeria.

Although I've been back to Nigeria about 3ce since then, I haven't traveled to my hometown where the domiciliary account is held. My Dad also opened a £30k domiciliary account last year to fund a building project. He later discovered that he had enough Naira to complete the project; which was more convenient than withdrawing £ sterling and converting to Naira etc.

The diaspora is littered with Nigerians, who work hard to earn a living and who remit savings to their Dom accounts. They do this, in anticipation of the day they will eventually return home for good. Till that day comes, these funds are likely to "lie idle" as CBN Boss Emiefele puts it.

I think the FGN via the CBN should introduce, promote and sell $ nominated bonds to Dom account holders at generous interest rates to fund the Power industry and agriculture. A win-win situation in my humble opinion. Another poster on this forum has already suggested that the govt should introduce $ nominated Treasury bills; another brilliant idea in my opinion.

Meanwhile, does anyone know whether or not Nigerian banks pay interest on Domiciliary accounts? Any figures or examples, please?

65,000 naira to 30,000 ex-militants amounts to 1,950,000,000 naira. That is 1.95 trillion naira. So the government actually believes she has no way of tackling of militants but resort to being taken as hostage? I still don't understand this. If these guys are that powerful, maybe we should pay them to help us decimate boko haram & bring back our girls once & for all. Is this really investigative journalism undecided

65,000 naira to 30,000 ex-militants amounts to 1,950,000,000 naira. This is equal to 1.95 billion naira. Not trillion.

obailala:
Why is it always the same old story all the time?... The government claims they issued eviction notices, the traders claim they never saw any notice and then the government comes in the middle of the night to demolish. This trend is too common in Nigeria but who is really to blame undecided

You have highlighted a very important observation which is valid. In this particular case and others, it is difficult to identify the party to blame. However, if the government did issue eviction notices, they should have gone a step further by publicizing this on the state radio, TV and any other means of communication via the State Ministry of Information.

For example, in Jan 2016, you decide that a market has to go. Go to the market and issue quit notice for say, the 6th June 2016. Carry along all traders and market leaders reminding them of the deadline. Publish this in the Newspapers and run regular reminders on the State TV and via radio jingles. On the June 6th, visit market again to remind them deadline has expired and demolition can start at any time. 7th to 9th June increase media campaign to remind anybody still trading there, that they do so at their own risk, as the deadline has expired. On the 10th June move in with bulldozers.

Of course, all of the above should be underpinned with a concrete plan beforehand for an alternative site where trading can be relocated to.

I believe that a united Nigeria can be the greatest black nation on planet earth; if we collectively deal with the real issues keeping us back - corruption, greed, lawlessness, religious/ethnic rivalries etc

However, if any part wants to exit Nigeria, I'll be sad to see them go. My main concern is that its done in a democratic, civilized manner by negotiation and consensus. War and bloodshed profits nobody.

A few countries have split after negotiation, referendums and "what have you". Those seeking an independent Biafra should explore this route.

It is obvious that the glue that holds the entity or zoo as some call it called Nigeria, is one thing: Crude oil. The north have been the major beneficiaries of the gains of this major resource since the creation of Nigeria. It's also obvious that without oil this entity cannot survive. More obvious it should be then, to the discerning mind that the solution to this fundamental gap is implementation of the major recommendations of the last National Conference which include decentralisation of the government and aggressive diversification of the economy. The only other option is to split the entity and let the regions be separate nations. This is the simple but obviously impossible panacea to the multitude of Nigeria's challenges. impossible because the hausa fulani will not want this to happen for obvious reasons, the latter option will even be met head on with full acrimony and animosity. We are truly doomed.

I agree with most of what you have written, but the part I don't get is: Why do we have to wait for decentralisation, regional government or true federalism? What is stopping any Governor/State government from diversifying and maximising their own internal income in the present political climate? Is it impossible for the states to create wealth in present day Nigeria?

Politics / Donu Kogbara Kidnapped In Port Harcourt This Morning by Crownvillar: 8:17pm On Aug 30, 2015
Popular Columnist/broadcaster, Donu Kogbara, was kidnapped in front of her house in the Nkpogu area of Port Harcourt on Sunday morning.

Although details of her abduction are sketchy, THISDAY gathered that armed men in police uniform, who drove in a CRV jeep, accosted and abducted Kogbara in front of her house.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ahmad Muhammad (DSP), confirmed the incident and said investigation was already on to ensure her safe rescue.

He however expressed concern that the hoodlums used police uniform in their operation.

“We too are suspicious because we have gathered that the abductors were in police uniform and using a private jeep. We (the police) do not operate like that. We are investigating the matter and hope to rescue her safely,” Muhammad said.

Donu Kogbara is a writer/broadcaster and has a weekly column in Vanguard newspapers. She is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of African Access Limited, a public relations outfit. She was also a member of the board of the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority from 2009 t0 2015. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/gunmen-kidnap-donu-kogbara-in-port-harcourt/218914/

Devaluation is good and bad. It encourages investment. Foreign investors can get more for their money locally and it prevents capital flight. However, it is also a double edge sword. It can also make some investors nervous. Nobody wants to invest in a country today only to be told tomorrow that the investment is worth 25% less in few weeks.

The stock mkt rose 3% just on the conclusion of the election. If there in confidence, in the political climate, it goes a long way in bringing more players to the table. The more the players, the better the currency.

When Buhari promised that $1 will equal N1 in a year, i hate to burst your bubble. IT WON'T HAPPEN. At least, not in a year. There are lots of things that will need to be in place for that to happen. Otherwise, South Africa, Canada would have done it by now.

It takes more than just word of mouth. But things should improve a lot in the next year in respect the value of the Naira. Investors confidence is coming back.

You are totally mistaken with your statement that Buhari promised that $1 will be equal to N1. He NEVER said that!!! A newspaper used it as their headline (I think the Vanguard..can't remember for sure. But when you read the body of the story Buhari only lamented the weak value of the Naira as opposed to what it used to be in the past.

When we told people that GEJ did a lot in the power sector generating and distributing all over Nigeria, some people deceived you and said it was not true. When we said the then opposition hired hoodlums and paid them to constantly destroy gas pipelines so that there would never be gas to power the power plants provided across the nation by GEJ, some people deceived you to say it wasn't true. Now that the opposition has taken over power and withdrawn the pipeline busters', are you not enjoying the hard work of GEJ? Of course you cant tell me that Buhari has installed even one pin in his 30days in office so, don't even try giving him the credit. GEJ did a lot for the this country. Propaganda and lies from APC was preferred by some Nigerians but, we knew the truth and that was why we stood by GEJ. However, the powers that be still rigged him out. It is well !

If GEJ was aware of saboteurs why didn't he tackle them with the full force of his powers as C-in-C of the Armed Forces? That singular failure invalidates the whole of your argument.

denitro:
Yes. It happened to me opposite Ikeja Airport Hotel.
I changed some dollars to the tune of N150,000. The guy gave me a bundle of N1000, which I counted
it was 99 pieces. He then gave me 1 N1000 to add to the bundle, which I did. He then gave me another bundle
of N500, I also counted it and again it was 99 pieces, I found it strange, but wasnt suspicious.
He gave me 1 N500 note which I added, I gave him the dollars and was on the way. When I got home I noticed that
the N1000 bundle was short (N32,000) and the N500 bundle short by N16,000. I fainted....

Till today I strongly believe the 1 note he gave me did the damage....

About 4 years ago, I was walking along the road, opposite the self-same Ikeja Airport Hotel when a guy appeared from nowhere offering to exchange Naira for Pounds. I was slightly amazed because I'd only just arrived from the UK about 3 days earlier and had about £4k that I wanted to melt down into Naira. I asked the fella his exchange rate and I was pleasantly surprised when he offered a rate far higher than other black-market rates. To cut long story short, I got his phone number with the intention of asking him to come to my friend's pad off Allen where I was staying to exchange some of my money. When I got home I told my friend...he told me clearly "don't try it, those guy are crooks and scammers" and I took his advice.

A few weeks later, an Uncle came from the US to stay with us at my friends place. He narrated how he exchanged some money the previous year, opposite the Ikeja Aiprot Hotel. According to him, they counted the money in his hands. He also counted it again by himself. By the time he got home...hey presto, money don short by several thousand Naira!

@ Bigfrancis21, yes, you are very correct. The Bus driver was clearly sitting on the fence instead of doing something. However, If I were in her shoes, I would've politely asked the Bus Driver to intervene as I've paid my fare but can't proceed to a seat because of the man blocking the path. If she'd done that, the onus would clearly be on the Bus Driver to sort out the problem.

I'm sure the Bus company would severely reprimand the Bus Driver when they see the video.
Politics / Re: Nigerian Woman Slapped By Jamaican Guy In London. by Crownvillar: 10:01pm On May 29, 2015
The guy seemed to be in the wrong from the video uploaded. Having said that, she made a massive blunder by saying something along the lines of "Jamaicans like looking for trouble". That is a sweeping statement which tars all Jamaicans negatively. Just like any other nation on planet earth, there are good and bad Jamaicans.

When he refused to let her get past, all she needed to do was tell the driver the situation and ask the bus driver to deal with it. The video clip doesn't show what happened at the very beginning of the incident. All said and done he shouldn't have slapped her. I wonder why we humans make life difficult for each other. We need to practice more of a "give and take" attitude.
