DuttyChuks:The discrimination stems from research gaps. They hardly take research seriously in Polytechnics as compared to the University. Also because here in Nigeria, we glorify titles and lecturers with the big academic titles are lesser in Nigerian Polytechnics. You seldom have numerous Professors in the Polytechnic. Most of their lecturers are Master's degree or Ph.D holders at most. This is a big deal in the Nigerian setting where Professors are considered to be Lords over subject matter; they are supposed to be Subject Matter Experts- an authority in their fields. Ask any Nigerian Polytechnic Student (past or present), How many Professors taught him/her in school? You will be surprised. While this is not a correct measure of knowledge base or knowledge transfer approach, it has undoubtedly impacted the outlook of Polytechnic graduates. |
I attended one of the best Polytechnics in Nigeria - where I earned a National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering. I proceeded to pursue a Bachelor's degree & Master's degree at a reputable Federal University in Nigeria. From a man who has experienced it all first-hand, it is baseless comparing the two education systems. The goal of each system are completely different. In the Polytechnic for engineering programs (when I was a student), all your Engineering courses are graded like this: - Examination: 60% - Practicals: 20% - Continuous Assessment: 20% For you to get an A in my school then, you need an overall score of 75% or more, some Polytechnics adopted 80% back then. It is lesser in the University, all you need is just 70% or more. The focus on structured practicals gives you ample exposure to real life scenarios. On the other hand, the University Education graded all courses like this: - Examination : 70% - Continuous Assessment : 30% - A dedicated course on practical which is graded similarly. While the Polytechnic Education trains you to be a handy man, the University trains you to be more! The exposure in the University Education is broader. In Nigerian Universities; You get to do GES/GST/GNS courses in Sociology (Nigerian People & Culture), Philosophy (Logic & Philosophy), ICT and the likes. Whereas in the Polytechnic (when I was there), the GNS was just Citizenship Education, Use of English and Use of Library; which is apparently limited. I read more books in my 3years HND-B.Eng conversion program, than I read in ND & HND program combined, despite doing over 50% similar courses. Emphasis are less on research in the Polytechnic as compared to that of University. These systems are not meant for same purpose. If you want to choose, choose the one that best meet your needs; Polytechnic Education focuses on preparing you to be a hands-on personnel, while the University focuses on preparing you to manage or give direction to hands-on personnel. Lastly, giving my 13years+ work experience in the Nigerian Labour Market, I strongly recommend a University Education. |
dsocioemmy:He is not off point at all. The cumulative installed capacity of our power plants is 13000MW+, Average daily output is 4500-5000MW+, yet this less than 5000MW can't be effectively distributed to Nigerians. Discos reject load (in many areas) just to limit their financial liabilities. ATC&C Losses are on the high and these Discos have little or no investment to reduce the losses, improve the network and improve revenue assurance. Even if generation ramps up to 30000MW today, these DISCOs can't deliver power to Nigerians as expected. |
Kilonje "was given"? You got whatever you deserve. Let's stop this mediocrity. People passed this exam as well. These children should sit up and do better. |
Mariangeles:Bad news sells in media more than good news. You should know this already. |
Mariangeles:Oga, he has spoken out more than your senators. Fact check me |

Ekiti? ![]() When I say the things I say about Ekiti, people used to think I am bias. The calendar in Ekiti state is still in 2001. Na only mouth dem get. |
SalamRushdie:I am not a criminal mind. I am business Strategist and only suggested a way to legally boycott high tarrifs. It is a blessing in disguise to some countries. |

SeaTrade:The warehouse doesn't have to be in one country. I called it "redistribution" strategy. If the two countries can come to a common ground, a similitude will be an alternative. America isn't stupid and other nations, particularly China ain't too. |
SalamRushdie:How? It's pretty easy to boycott. Produce in China, ship to a country with little tarrif, warehouse there and ship from there to the U.S. Won't be easy in the instant but it's a simple redistribution strategy that many would employ. |
NewDigitalWorld:Imagine this with a reasonable subscription rate that comes with free data to stream the movies on that platform. I love brilliant innovations like this. You don't have to pay for subscription and data to stream, it'd be all embedded. That would be a game changer. |
I imagine a Wike on the list, sent to a far away country for peace to reign in Rivers State, while Fubara is returned to his seat of power. That would be a joker! I love the game of politics. |
treesun:That role is a sensitive one. I wish he appoints an Igbo man or woman. He needs to start appeasing other tribes already |
Amumaigwe:How you people come to your conclusions is always amazing |
Timinho23:One of his biggest mistakes. He has a lot of biggest mistakes. You made a very reasonable point. |
[quote author=Dapagun post=134606213] keep saying this, the destruction of this HOA complex was absolutely unnecessary. It was an abuse of power. I know this building very well up to a few days before demolition, nothing was wrong with that structure. It was a beautiful edifice. Why destroy it in bid to show the extent of your power? |
Peterobiisathie:Some revelations there! O boy! Thanks for sharing |
Be careful of anyone who cries quickly, or talks too much in his/her favour. While I condemn any form of sexual harassment; this woman's case is highly suspicious and malicious on many fronts. Why didn't she report the case at the instance of the alleged crime/misconduct? According to her narrative, why did she conceal the truth when her husband repeatedly asked her what went wrong that night? Was she truly guilty of the misconduct the senate unanimously penalized her for? If yes, why the sudden diversion of attention from her misconduct to an old story that was not reported at the instance of occurence? Her manipulation game is so glaring. She simply played the sexual harassment card to gain public sympathy, knowing fully well that people would assume she was being penalized for claiming that the SP sexually harassed her. Fear women! |
Jumm233:I hope this response isn't too late: When you/she submitted her passport, the officer that attended to you/her must have asked if you/she wanted an in-person passport collection or a courier delivery. For in-person collection, the procedure is pretty simple and easy. - Print the email advising that the passport (decision envelope) is ready for collection at the VFS Lagos office. - Go with the slip that you were given when you went for passport submission. - Go with your mom early to the VFS Lagos office; don't join the long queue for biometrics; simply approach the security that you are there for passport collection; they will direct you to the passport collection office at the back of the building. - Present the document, and the officer in-charge would stamp acknowledgement of receipt on the slip, and then your mom will sign that she received the passport herself. She could go alone too (but it's advisable she has a company that could help her around, if she's aged). The entire process of in-person passport collection takes about 5–10 minutes. Provided there is no long waiting queue (hardly is there one, anyway) For in-person passport collection, you cannot do it for her without her being there; she has to be there physically herself to collect the passport. Alternatively, if she doesn't want to go there in-person, just pay for the courier services. Congratulations to mama! |
Zionmdde:The problem with your comment is the examples you cited. If you have plied these roads lately, you won’t be here citing irrelevant examples. Ask anyone who have recently plied these roads to know if serious works ain't going on there. We just like to condemn good thing. We magnify failures above successes. We justify our displeasure through the lenses of "what" we think isn't working. Laudable works are ongoing in those roads you referenced. Learn how to use correct references when criticizing the government. |
Macphenson:This is what Peter Obi saw? Yet he accepted to be the running mate of the party's flag bearer in the previous election. Can we all accept for once that Peter Obi is like every other politician? He knew about these and still chose to stay. He accepted to be the running mate of the person that Dele Momodu is likely talking about. He is no saint like y'all make him look. All politicians are the same. Trust them at your own detriment. |
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! |
alphonsojaybaz:No better parody name for her than Amaka The female gender deserve utmost respect for the wicked things they are capable of doing. Obinrin? FEAR THAT GENDER!!! |
She en gbo were? If you are helping her or if you are committing sin. God must be having a good laugh in heaven ![]() |
TheWinterBird:When a woman does a similar thing, it is not abuse. ![]() |
Obinrin? Mtcheeeeew! Most of them are all the same. I like how men are speaking out now, prior to this time, they make the loudest noise on men been cheats even when research have said otherwise. Most women's love are subjective. Often times, she's stays with you only for the advantage she gets. Her mind wanders more than yours and would go to places if given a chance. Obinrin? |
BeautifulSolace:I am a guy and I was in a long distance relationship with a lady for about 2years and I never cheated. I was true to her even when I doubted hers. Loyal guys exists. Sis, if you are sure that he is loyal to you, kill the doubts! Loyal guys exist, yes we do! I hope you'd stay loyal too while you guys work on getting married. |
ValCon888:This is backyard opinion with little or no knowledge of the downstream sector of the industry. Oil business is not Agofure Conglomerate. |
Ibtxxo:Never too late to start! Start from learning a skill. Money don't fall from trees, money is earned when value is exchanged. Go and learn ! Earning will be easy for you. Marry when you are stable. It is never too late to start! |
