Mojoy88: When the previous administration was selling NEPA to private owners, we were all smiling not knowing the scam will backfire. The truth must be told, we can't blame the government for power anymore as much as we can't blame the government for Glo poor network. The Gencos, and Discos should be held accountable.
Now, the question we should ask is 'why is so much money still allocated to the power sector by the government?' Thank you jare. A well thought comment. |

BluntBoy: You people are just throwing blames up and down.
Do you even know how many Nigerians are short-changing the distribution companies by using illegal connections and enjoying electricity without paying a dime. And the sad thing is that even some universities and big industries too would be owing electricity bills running into billions of naira.
That is why I tell people that Nigeria's problem is not just a problem of leadership. Change must come from everyone.
Fashola has made efforts, aggressive and passive, to deal with exploitations. Perhaps you are not current. But it is an open secret that the businessmen running the DISCOs don't like Fashola. Thank you jare brother! Let them keep blaming the wrong person(s). |

Reference: They are just keeping afloat. They are not making much. You will know any sector that has 'free' money, business sharks will be swimming around to takeover and devour. Remember the subsidy regime, overnight every one money bag had a tank farm constructed. Banks were falling over themselves to finance. Today no money is going into power because nothing is coming out. Returns are poor and venture capitalists such as Geometric that was heavily leveraged by banks.... well you know what is happening with Diamond.
And please, no matter how 'rich' some entity is if a venture does not make business sense, it does not, simple. Big money is not symptomatic of financial carelessness. I have done a feasibility with some of my friends to do independent generation and it does not work, simple, the tariffs are too low. This was the mistake made during the privatisation regime. They bought into the process with a promise rates will be incrementally raised to meet up with set targets. Fashola has tried, the rates have been raised but not quickly enough and not high enough to ignite investor interest.
Believe me if it is attractive you will have heard a lot of M&A's since the privatisation, even political interference. The power sector is tough. You are right with your points & I am right too. Fashola is right to some extent likewise. I appreciate people like you that have understanding of the sector before talking. In all, I have said it before and I am saying it again, the privatization of the power sector is not good for Nigerians, at least not yet. |

He is right to some extent. The folks who invested in the power sector are not serious people, all they just want is profit even when they are not investing enough. Almost all the power system infrastructures are still the old ones they bought from FG. How many new injection substations have the discos built? How many distribution transformers have they bought? How many prepaid meters have they deployed to customers? How many equipment do they have for fault identification and fault rectification? What's in the store of these discos? ECN/NEPA/PHCN had so many things working for them but for poor management, all of those equipment and infrastructures were sold to people who are not "rich" enough to sustain the industry. He is right to some extent. #IMO |

Olumyco: Na wa oooo. Is it the various social happenings of the world that have turned the mind of people to something else like this where they misinterpret simple messages?
First of all, according to the message sent by the lady, there is no iota of any wooing related message there. How does a request to be part of Mount Zion Film Ministries equal wooing?
Secondly there are many of such messages I believe the guy would be receiving everyday. And he ignoring it does not mean arrogance or pride. Do we all respond to all DMs?
Thirdly these are Christians and the message is that you can never know what God is planning for you in the future even when you dont care about a particular happening at present. The mesaage also means God orders the footsteps of His Children even when we dont get or catch His move at the present. God moves in a mysterious way, what you think does not matter now or important may become important and matters in the future. What you think is small today may become big tomorrow. Its all about God. We are very limited as humans, we dont know the future and God is not offended by that, but the testimony will always be that I never knew this was what God was getting at. Oh! I never knew this was why this happened then some years ago. There are testimonies of people who were not looking the direction of the person who ended up as their spouse. Its always a testimony because it means you did not influence it. Infact you discarded it but because God is in it everything worked out as planned by God at the end.

olujastro: Somehow I blame Fashola but I also pity his situation. The discos have a ten year licence with additional 5yr renewal clause. Fashola has to choose between respecting agreements between past govt and the new power companies or cancelling the licence. He's chosen to work with the discos where they have challenges instead of telling the world that Nigerian govt doesn't respect agreements. But there's only so much that he can do as these companies are now privately owned. It's a 5years license that ended on October 30th sir. Maybe FG have renewed their license sha. |
Politics › Re: Nigerian Power Firm To Sell Electricity To Burkina Faso by CrystalMax: 8:37pm On Nov 30, 2018 |
Let them sell it for their organizational sustenance jare. Haba! Our Discos have failed us! They reject energy all in the name of energy management claiming they can't collect the money for energy distributed to some areas, they all (the 11 of them) owe these Genco guys in billions. Most of them have invested little or nothing into power system infrastructure, majority of all injection substations (if not all) were built by FG in time past, even the new ones are NIPP projects, they don't even give distribution transformers to public users yet they don't remit as they ought to MO. They are selfish and thieving investors that don't care about Nigerians, all they care about is the payment for the "darkness" that they give. Privatization of Nigeria's power sector wasn't really good for us at all. I support this idea of them selling their idle energy to countries that will utilize and pay for them accordingly. A business is a business! |
