Sisi_Kill: How can you say NO TRIBALISM on a thread titled IGBO GIRLS HAVE LOST THEIR WAYS because they marry Yoruba guys??!! ileobatojo: My sister, the tin shock me o! The topic is tribalism from head to toe especially because of that title and the fact that it only focuses on 2 specific tribes vs all the multitudes if intertribal marriages in Nigeria. God help us o.I meant culture-wise. Apologies. I have re-edited the thread title. |
jidegirl12: And what's your defination of an 'Average Igbo man' o let me hear... I repeat HARDLY you see a Yoruba gal settle for Igbo man, they rather marry Hausa they don't know from Adam.... or elope with a foreignerAs someone who has lived in both Igboland and Yorubaland for years and who is neither from both tribes, I can assure you that the Igbos take marriage and family very seriously compared to the Yorubas due in chief part to the Catholic thing and the fact that wealth is measured in the number of kids and how well an Igbo man takes care of his wife. A lot of Yoruba married men sleep around. Not all though. I especially respect the religious ones |
2mch: Like this damsel:One out of a million. every tribe and culture has such tales. c'mon!!! |
jidegirl12: OP have you ever thought of this? 2mch: OP,You both seem angry. the reason i opened this thread was to know if being in lagos presented a cultural or socio-economic reason for this trend. matured minds please |
ileobatojo: I'm sorry but I don't see how you can attempt to take a moral high ground after your OP. you feel Igbo girls have lost their way solely based on the fact that they marry Yoruba guys and in the next breath try to decry tribalism? I don't think they go together.I was referring to the culture thing. Most inter-tribal marriages "in Lagos" are heavily Westernized. In my own opinion I should add. |
Look, for the record, am not a person who practices tribalism. Neither am I from any one of the 3 major tribes of Nigeria (Igbo, Hausa & Yoruba). I have lots of Igbo and Yoruba friends. There is something I have noticed in Lagos. Lots of Igbo ladies marrying Yoruba guys. I haven't seen a Yoruba lady marrying an Igbo man. If that does happen, I bet its rare. I know there are a lot of hardworking and educated Igbo men in Lagos so I wonder what gives. Everyone should try to protect his/her culture. Kids these days don't even speak the parent's native language. Disturbing. Just went through facebook and got an invite from my friend, she's Igbo, marrying a Yoruba guy. Oh well. God weaves as he wills I guess. Please your comment will be highly appreciated so as to give me more insight into this. Please no tribalism bull$hit. Not the intention of this thread. |
