This thread is dry oo Ok, let's drive up the momentum! "Pros and Cons of applying to a test-optional college"—discuss: I brought up this topic, basically because of people like me, who are unable to take standardized tests (SAT/ACT) Amidst the pandemic. Please gurus in the house, have your say. Thanks! |

Chonco: Thank you for your response. I appreciate. My WAEC is okay but have not calculated to know the GPA. I've not taken any language proficiency test. I also got to know that since there's Covid, no need to write SAT but there made a provision for another test. Yes, i have means of sponsoring my application and my parents will sponsor my tfare/travel arrangements.
The issue now is this; i don't know how the scholarship program works. Is there a particular percentage provided by the school?
I'll send a PM to you because I've actually made some researches but i need to know more.
Once again, i appreciate perfecto! |

Curious2020: Well I guess you're newbie here, no worries! There's a trend on this platform, you should have done research of about 75-80% before people can assist you here, I've been there you can't expect anyone to help you with all this from scratch, I spent almost a year researching my options and came up with a list of 20 colleges.
Just google search this keyword "undergraduate scholarships for international students to study in the US"
Once you find out schools giving those scholarships, learn more about the application process e.t.c, come back here and ask questions concerning things you can't find out from the internet i.e specific informations relating to requirements for Nigerians. Which would be impossible to get from GOOGLE
PEACE.....
Good luck! Once you've done your research you can pm I'd help you. Also if you're thinking of getting into the US this year, well let me break it to you—that's a pipe dream, considering the fact that you haven't researched your college options, if I may ask what are your STATS i.e how's your WASSCE result, ur gpa, have you taken the SAT/ACT, do you have Means of sponsoring your application, how do you sponsor your travel if admitted? |

Chonco: Good evening everyone.
I'd be grateful if anyone can wholeheartedly assist me with information. I
I want to apply for an undergraduate degree program with scholarship advantage in any School in the USA.
I don't even know how to start the application or the school to chose because i have no idea on what to do.
I need assistance with a list or a school that accepts international student for undergraduate studies with scholarship or a cheap school without scholarship, but the truth is that scholarship is my number one reason or priority.
The only favour i need is information please.
Thank you and God bless you. Well I guess you're newbie here, no worries! fairheart: I replied in less than 2 hours because you e-mailed me when I was a little free and my computer email app notify me of every incoming message. The whole October is somewhat loosed for me, unlike September. If it is time I have studies or intensive work to do, I might ignore you for 2 months! Again, if you send message to someone and they did not reply, I want you to know it's not always because they are selfish or they don't care; some people are lazy at responding to their emails; some people are not checking their messages; some people registered nairaland with old email address they no longer check or add to their mobile e-mail app. I am going to tell you; without understanding, your adulthood is not complete. Always try to see things from others' perspective. Have understanding. This is not the same as being knowledgeable or intelligent.
You're becoming too assertive in your demand for selflessness from others. I want to assume you're a selfless person yourself, because only an unselfish person have the moral ground to demand selflessness from others. To that, I will patiently wait for the time you'll get your visa and travel. I hope you will always come here to help undergraduate students like yourself. |

Anybodie: Visa Approved
I'll be back with transcript
Interview was scheduled for Friday, 9th October at the Lagos Consulate.
Two windows (VO) were available to interview applicants, both white in their mid 30's - 40's. My interview session was really brief and straight to the point.
VO: Good Morning, I will like to take your biometrics for verification. Me: Good Morning Ok Placed my fingers on the scanner. VO: Please take your mask off briefly for Identification. Me: Ok VO: So, where in the US are you going? Me: The University of Southern Mississippi VO: What are you going there for? Me: To pursue a Masters degree in Hydrographic Science VO: What did you call your course? Me: repeats twice VO: So why Southern Mississippi? Me: The Hydrographic Science program at USM comes with another certification, the FIG/IHO CAT-A certification. It is an industry standard and widely accepted certification. I also want to take advantage of the quality research on Autonomous Underwater Vehicles VO: Ok, tell me about your course (at that time he stopped looking at me, started typing but kept smiling Me: drops some sakamanje about AUVs and underwater gas seepages ..... I was sure he had little or no idea about my course so I confidently said what came to my head at the moment (I read my course description last night on the school's website, this was also helpful) VO: Visibly impressed with my description, So who will be funding your study? Did you get an assistantship? Me: Yes, My admission offer came with full tuition waiver and monthlyl stipends VO: Ok, Are you married? Me: No, I am still single VO: Do you have Kids? Me: (at this point, I was a bit worried because I thought he was trying to establish home ties) I smiled and replied calmly, NO sir VO: Ok, Take this slip to the cashier and make your payments, Keep your I-20 well, it will be requested for at the POE. Me: I was smiling anyhow already, but I used my nosemask as disguise. Thank You!
That's all..... no question on travel history, educational background or professional experience. Brief and straight to the point. I think it is best to answer the questions as brief as possible, and let your answers match what you filled in your DS-160. About three candidates were rejected while I was on the line waiting for my turn. I was able to eavesdrop on their interview session
Rejection 1: He claimed to have a funding offer but it wasn't reflecting on his I-20. He said it will only reflect upon admission(I guess he meant resumption). The wasn't having any of it, he insisted the guy was admitted already and any funding offer must reflect on his I-20, he said he would have approved him but no proof of funding.
Rejection 2: Baba claimed to be single on DS-160 but said he was married when asked during the interview. He started shalaye , According to him, he gave his babe belle and had to marry her . He said he did his traditional marriage on October 10th, but was yet to do the legal marriage. VO didn't but his alaye ....Rejected.
I can't recall the reason for the third rejection.
The second VO asked some funny questions for the other guys while I was been interviewed 1) What's the official mascot of your school? The guy didn't know, he was asking what a mascot was...... His visa was approved regardless 2) Pronounce the name of your school (University of Louisville). The guy tried but not so spot on, VO corrected him and granted the Visa .
Overall, today was a good day for most applicants at the Lagos Consulate. I would say about 80% approval (judging from my time in the waiting hall, i noticed only three rejections). About 30 - 40 applicants were interviewed today, 7 am was the last time on the schedule according to the CGI official on ground, and the last person on the queue (from outside) was already in the waiting hall before I was done with my interview (around 9 a.m.).
Bottom-line, wear something you are comfortable in; It can be a long wait before it get to your turn. Trust me, you don't want to be sweating outside while standing for over two hours. I went in a simple native attire that was free on my body, so I was at ease all through. congratulations |

groovychik: Anyone that is serious about studying in the US or any foreign country, would have to cultivate the habit of reading and research and quit thinking anything would be offered to them on a silver platter. That is what entitlement means. Some people here have read this thread from start to finish to find answers, intact reading just 10 pages of it might give you answers and when you do not get the answers you seek, you ask persistently until someone knowledgeable in that aspect answers. Attitude is everything and I just saw an unfortunate person abuse @lagosismyhome, who we all know doesn't need to be here, but she comes here to advice and on countless occasions assisted applicants with application fees, GRE fees, Toefl etc all on this thread. That is how someone might abuse their helper and blame village people all in the bid to chase clout. I hope you do understand what I mean. OK thanks! Let me ask you, because I asked a question does it mean that I haven't done my research? And besides you should have meticulously read what I wrote before you quoted. I didn't ask questions that showed that I havent done research. So person wey choose 20 schools no do enough research abi? Come and see my browser search history. I asked if "I can pay for the css profile using a Nigerian Bank account. + anyone who gained admission for UG studies", I wanted to remove One college whose application is giving me headache. Unlike some random nairalander who'd just say this is my stats; GPA bla bla... chances getting admitted? Biko read wella before you quote |

fairheart: Your attitude is very annoying. You may be academically sound, but you need to learn to be understanding and listen to those who knows better than you. Most of the people who have been on this thread for a long time, contributing, advising, giving listening ears and even supporting strangers financially, are not your mates. Lagosismyhome is trying to correct and educate you, yet, you remain defensive. This manner will likely make more people ignore you. Classroom education should not be subtituted for manner. Cocao: . Your second question is pointless. Your circumstances are unique to yourself. Even if someone has finding in one school it doesn't apply to you.
First narrow down your school search based on the course you want to do. Read the school and department website, if they have funding, it will be stated there. Further questions should be directed to the admissions coordinator.
If you now have a specific request, state here ok thanks that's why I asked pls can I pay for the css profile using my ATM card from sterling bank? |

Cocao: See, this application knowledge is not gotten in a day. It takes hours of research. Nairaland is just to see if anyone has any alternative idea or if you have a unique situation, but the bulk of the work has to be done by you.
The questions you are asking seem easily gotten from Google. I don't know the answers but I know that if I want to get it, I'll find it.
Put in research first okay Bro I've done my research, I'm applying to 20 colleges 10 reach 5 target 5 safeties. Also I submitted my application to 3 early action program yesterday, i want to apply for funding before the application deadline November 1st that's why I'm asking questions some accepted the ISFAA, some don't, a 19 provided me with an application fee waiver and about 15 provided me with a css profile waiver code simultaneously. Only my profile shows that I've made enough research OK, see my name CURIOUS2020 |

Aderin0la: You need to relax. Nobody owes you anything, not their time, not their advice, nothing!
So many people here are busy with other things and only come here in their free time. You don’t expect them to answer every single question. At the same time, you should understand that so many people like me have been waiting the whole year for the embassy to open up. They just did and all of my attention is on that. Maybe you should be patient until all the visa interview rush ends, then focus would be returned to admission applications. Ok so application deadline should be a month before I start asking abi? you started well but ended with a funny statement. |

I also recall asking if there's anyone who gained admission for UG studies, if yes, did come with full funding and the name of the school, finish... no answer again. |
