The National Security Adviser (NSA) office has issued a disturbing alert that Boko Haram insurgents plot to launch attacks in Lagos. Specifically, in Lagos seaports, Vanguard reports.

The alert was made after the US Embassy had lamented over the security situation at the sea ports. The notice triggered the increase in the level of security checks and imposition of additional restrictions.

Port Facility Security Officer Forum on its part ordered the body members to enhance surveillance and limit access to the premises.
An increased number of clearing agents have been observed at the Nigerian Ports Authority since last week.

Zeb Ikokide, the Forum vice chairman, warned Customs to stop delaying cargoes at the gates, noting that all the work with documentation should be finished before the items reach the exit gate.
Olayiwola Shittu, Customs official, urged Nigerian to be vigilant and assist security agencies in ensuring safet at the ports.

A Senior Magistrate’s Court in Benin, Edo state yesterday ordered the remand of Prince Rich Arisco-Osemwingie, in prison custody, for unlawfully coronating himself as His Royal Majesty, Ogiamen of Utantan in Benin nation.

Arisco-Osemwingie, a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was arraigned along with his brother, Patrick Osabuohien, on a six-count charge of felony and misdemeanour before Chief Magistrate M.C. Ojobo, (Mrs.), in Charge No. MOR/148c/2015.

The accused persons were alleged to have conspired together on the 9th day of September 2015 at No. 97 Sakponba Road in Benin City to commit the unlawful coronation, an offence punishable under Section 517 of the criminal code, Cap 48 Vol 11 laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976 now applicable in Edo State.

They were both remanded in prison custody till the next hearing which comes up on the 29 th of September, 2015

President Muhammadu Buhari has purportedly submitted the list of 36 ministerial nominees to the Department of State Services (DSS) for screening.

The Punch obtained on Wednesday, September 9, that at least 20 of the candidates had already been vetted by the agency.

The screening procedure reportedly involves career background check and examination of records with anti-corruption and security bodies.

Although the names of the nominees are yet to be provided, a corresponded said the it includes mainly those who had worked with President Buhari when he served in the military and was the chairman of the Petroleum Trust Fund.

When contacted, the presidency however gave a sketchy reply to the question whether the nominees list had been directed to the DSS.

Buhari’s media aide Femi Adesina said:

“Security screening is naturally a behind-the-scenes matter, thanks.”

One of the All Progressives Congress chieftains who pleaded for anonymity explained:

“The truth is that the President is someone who believes in due process.

“His choice of Daura (Lawal Daura), a member of the old guard, as the DG DSS should tell you something; even those contacted for screening know that any leak of information traced to them could ruin their chances.”

It should be recalled that Buhari has several times stated he will appoint ministers in September. This followed criticism by Nigerians that after 100 days in office he had still failed to name cabinet.

Speaking last Monday in Ghana the president referred to his previous pledge saying:

“When cabinet ministers are appointed in September, it will be some months after I took the oath of office… “After I was sworn-in, I said I will have my cabinet in September. I expect that Nigerians should ask me questions after the 30th of September if I do not do so.”

Later on, in his interview with BBC Hausa, Buhari stated categorically:

“I said within this month. Therefore, I still have three weeks.”

Meanwhile APC national leader Bola Tinubu yesterday addressed journalists after a closed-door meeting with Buhari. Regarding the cabinet issue, he lamented over the pressure put by some adding they could not afford making mistakes by rushing things.

In the epic battle of the Williams sisters, it was Serena who came out on top in a tough three-set match, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3, and continued her march to the calendar Grand Slam Tuesday at the US Open.

Serena looked to be on her A-game to start, coming out with a dominating performance in the first set, breaking Venus twice and not yielding a single break point opportunity. It looked as though Serena would power her way through to the semifinals with relative ease, but Venus bounced back in the second set.

Venus broke Serena twice in the second set as Serena's game began to look vulnerable. Serena, after just two unforced errors in the first set, had 11 in the second. Those loose points, coupled with excellent service games from Venus -- winning 19-of-24 points on her serve -- allowed Venus to cruise to a 6-1 set win.

While momentum seemed to be on Venus' side heading into the third set, Serena quickly put her disappointing play behind her. Serena held serve in the first game and then got a much-needed early break to put some distance between her and Venus in the third and final set.

Last week, President Buhari and the vice president, Yemi Osinbajo publicly declared their assets which was made known through a statement released by Garba Shehu, the senior special adviser to the president on media and publicity. The report showed that the president, prior to his inauguration in May 29 had N30 million which is equivalent to $150,000.

In a report by The Washington Post, the declaration showed that the president is not in the league of rich African leaders. “By the standards of sub-Saharan African leaders, Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari is dirt-poo”.


The report pointed out rhetorically if the president was telling the truth with his declaration considering that Nigeria has been riddled with corruption for a long time.
The report however said that Buhari was elected due to his promise that he would rid the country of the culture of corruption and his declaration already showed a sense of transparency.

“The question on many minds is this: Is Buhari, Nigeria’s former military ruler and ex-head of the oil ministry, telling the truth?
Corruption, after all, is a major problem in Africa’s largest economy. Buhari himself has publicly said that more than $150 billion is missing from the government’s coffers. Still, the public declaration appears to be an attempt to show some much-needed transparency. Buhari was elected in March largely by promising that he wouldn’t tolerate corruption.”

Buhari’s action was considered a clear move which many African leaders have not done before.

Reports have emerged on how a certain ASP Afolabi has allegedly led a gang of hoodlums to kill an apprentice barber. According to Rotimi Akinde, father of the 20-year-old boy barber, Bidemi Akinde, the ASP popularly called Jagaban, attached to the Sango-Ota Police Area Command, Ogun state, led the touts, who are notorious for unlawful possession of parcels of land, to kill his son.
The Punch reports that the young man was reportedly shot dead in the Oke-Ore, Atan-Ota area of the state by one Segun said to be one of the hoodlums loyal to a certain Alhaji Owoeye.

The father of the deceased noted that his son was supposed to gain his ‘freedom’ from his master before the community was invaded around 10pm on Wednesday, August 19 and the young man was killed.

The culprits reportedly fled when they discovered that the late apprentice, who was coming from a canteen, dropped dead from one of the bullets from the gun of the hoodlum.
Some soldiers reportedly arrested Owoeye, who was later handed over to the police for proper prosecution.
Rotimi, father of the deceased, has now stated categorically that he wants justice on the matter and that ASP Afolabi and others allegedly involved in the killing of his son, duly prosecuted.

“It was Owoeye who hired the policemen, led by Supol Afolabi, from the Area Command to follow him and other land grabbers to our community. He is their chairman in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.
“Afolabi had called a landlady because of the notice pasted on her house. It was shortly after then that people rushed to tell me that Bidemi had been shot dead. How can a police officer be leading thugs to victimise residents? Owoeye is not an indigene of our community.
“I learnt that he had been arraigned in court. I urge the state judiciary not to compromise. The officer and other land grabbers at large should also be brought to book,” he lamented.
Speaking also, mother of the deceased, identified as Sarah, urged police authorities and the government to ensure that justice was done in the case.
“Bidemi’s death has left a huge gap in my heart. He was obedient, gentle and respectful. He finished his secondary school education two years ago and had been disturbing me that he wanted to further his studies. I pleaded with him to complete his vocation first because we didn’t have the means yet.


“His boss certified him some months ago and we were already planning for his freedom when these heartless people killed him,” she noted.
The late Bidemi was described as a very hardworking and intelligent young man by his Olugbenga Omoleye.
According to Omoleye: “I am still battling with the fact that he is gone. I had left the shop under his care that morning and went to Owode with a friend. Soon after I got there, I learnt Owoeye and his boys had started their trouble again and I called him on the telephone to shut the shop and go home. A few minutes later, I was called that he was dead.”
Residents of the area told The Punch that the suspect and his accomplice had always used policemen to oppress them, with a landlord particularly stating that he saw the exact person who shot the young man.
“I was taking my son to an Islamic class that day when I saw them and policemen trooping into the community. We had to hide somewhere. It was Segun who shot that boy,” he revealed.
Reacting to the allegations, the Ogun state police spokesperson, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, denied Police involvement in the attack, explaining instead, that the police had escorted some bailiffs to the community to execute a court order.
“A man got a court order on some landed property. The police went with the bailiff to the community to serve; the court order. The policemen and the bailiffs had left the place before the hoodlums came. It is not true that policemen led the hoodlums there.
“The ASP was there officially to do what the law says he should do,” he stated.

The beauty queen turned baby mama finally shared throwback photos of when she was pregnant with Flavour's child. The 20 year old former MBGN queen welcomed a daughter with the high life singer about a month ago. Flavour also has a daughter with another former beauty queen, Sandra Okagbue.

The world’s shortest man has died at the age of 75 after falling victim to pneumonia. Chandra Dangi of Nepal passed away at the Lyndon B. Johnson Tropical Medical Center in Pago Pago in American Samoa in the Pacific early Friday morning following a brief illness.

Family friend Sujit Dilip, owner of India's well-known Rambo Circus, based in Pune, said: 'Today, our circus is flooded with tears at the loss of the world's smallest man...whom we lovingly called Prince Chandra. Mr Dangi, who was just 21.5ins, broke the record in 2012 when he was crowned by Guinness World Records in Kathmandu, India.
