temmypotter It has been resolved |
Good day everyone, and big congrats to all aspiring undergraduates that were affected in the new jamb eligibility regulation. I can assure you all that the matter has been resolved as we have finally gotten an order from the Federal High court, compelling Unilag and Jamb to include any students that scored 200marks &above. Other universities have also effected the change. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has repealed its earlier decision to redistribute candidates that sat for this year’s exams to institutions they (candidates) did not initially choose while filling their forms. JAMB has come under criticisms lately since it announced the plan. Some days ago, some candidates who chose the University of Lagos, UNILAG, and their parents staged a peaceful protest in Lagos both at Unilag and the Federal High Court. Professor Dibu Ojerinde, JAMB Registrar, had explained that the redistribution was to help cushion the effect of spill overs from top class institutions, which insist on not reducing their cut off marks, including UNILAG. JAMB had announced cut off marks of 180 for universities in the country, while 150 for polytechnics and colleges of education. But the body has now rescinded its decision and has asked candidates to proceed to their first choice of institution for their post-UME exams following the court's verdict. Though I wasn't in Lagos to attend the hearing but my reliable source says the judge delivered his judgement at exactly 12.20pm today & asked both Jamb & Unilag to revert its sudden policy wit immediate effect. A copy of d judgement has also been released. More news on this will be updated. Big shoutout to everyone that lent a voice and those that participated in the protes. temmypotter:Really, I still don't have a clue on that one. But my best bet would be him going to any Jamb officr nearby |
tete7000:Sorry, but you are getting things entirely mixed up. Laila never said you shouldn't bargain but bargaining hard is where the problem lies. When you are in shoprite, do you teach your child how to bargain? Do you take him/her to the cashier and start pricing goods, NO! So what's your point? |
ajalaolanr:Stop making noise jare. When was your time? |
Most times when we walk into big malls, boutiques, supermarkets, we never question their prices. We pay exactly what we see on the price tags and even hand out tips to the staff. But the moment we are out of these shops and want tobuy banana, our bargaining game gets off to the roof. Poor widow with 12 hungry children at home tells you banana is N100. She even takes out her time to explain how difficult it wasfor her to even buy it, how the economy is so tough. But we insist that if it's not N50, we are not paying. Some of us even step back into our cars and make to drive away. But because 'half bread is better chin chin', this woman is forced to call you back and sell to you at little or no gain. In her heart, she cries, she's worried about how she'll survive with her children. She silently reassures herself that 'It's well. God will definitely provide.'' While you happily chop the luscious banana. Take some seconds out and think about this, guys. Please don't bargain hard with small vendors like this. They do business not to buy designer bags, Gucci shoes but to LIVE and EAT! Love, Laila Ijeoma Source: http://www.lailasblog.com/2015/07/something-really-urgent-to-ponder-on.html

President Muhammadu Buhari has finally revealed what will be the fate of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, saying thenational oil company will be divided into two successor entities under his administration. The President, who stated this in an interview with journalists in Washington DC during a four-day visit to the United States, an extract of which was made available to Saturday PUNCH,explained that the decision would form one of the key steps of his reform of the country’s oil and gas sector. The NNPC is considered a cesspoolof corruption and fraud sign posted by the non-remission of revenues from oil sale to the Federation Account. Hence, one of the first reform moves by All Progressives Congress –led administration is expected to start at the NNPC. There had been insinuations that Buhari would unbundle the NNPC into four companies but the President, in the Washington interview, said rather than breaking the NNPC into four companies, it would be divided into two – regulator and investment vehicle. While one of the successor companies will be an independent regulator, the President said the second would operate as an investment vehicle for the country. He said, “I am reforming the oil and gas sector, breaking up the NNPC into two parts – the first willbecome an independent regulator for the sector, while the second will act as an investment vehicle for the country.” Buhari also said there would be a new bid round for oil blocks in the country, adding that he favours transparent auction process. “I will also end political control of the awarding of drilling and exploration rights by introducing a system of independent, transparent auctioning for licences,” the President said. Senate President Bukola Saraki had, recently, described the NNPC as the engine room of corruption. He lamented that none of the perpetrators of illegal deals in the corporation had so far been apprehended and brought to justice. “You hardly see where people who are the real engine room – which is the NNPC – where most of thesecorruption cases on oil are, being put on trial,” he said. Similarly, Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, had last week called for the setting up of another national oil firm as he argued that the present NNPC would kill Nigeria if it was allowed to continue running.“If you don’t kill the NNPC, it will kill Nigeria,” el-Rufai said. Buhari, as part of the ongoing reform of several strata of the country, said his administration would merge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practicesand other Related Offences Commission into one strong and more effective anti-graft agency. He said, “Corruption is one of the top three issues facing Nigeria, along with insecurity and unemployment. We must act to kill corruption or corruption will kill Nigeria. I am determined to lead that fight.“My government is already taking several steps to cut out the cancer of corruption that has been eating away at the state for so long.“We are reorganising the existing plethora of anti-corruption bodies into single powerful agency that will have the focus, power and budget to clamp down on corruption at the federal and statelevels.” The President said ministers would no longer have power to award contracts while announcing the introduction of a new system of plea bargaining to encourage looters of the government money and oil thieves to return the people’s stolen commonwealth. He said, “I have already acted to remove political control over awarding of contracts away from ministers who use them to get political favours and kickbacks.“I will introduce a new system of plea bargain, that will allow those who have stolen assets and funds to return them – but if they do nottake that opportunity we will pursue them through the courts.” Buhari insisted that his administration would not relent in asking foreign countries, including the US, to help in returning stolen funds that are sitting in private accounts abroad, but rightfully belonging to the people of Nigeria. The President lamented that the country had become over-dependent on oil because of the incompetence and corruption of government that concentrated on “how best to steal oil revenues instead of how best to use our oil windfalls to invest in a modern, growing economy.” Rather than continue to depend on oil, Buhari said Nigeria must become a manufacturing giant. “I will not be satisfied until the label ‘Made in Nigeria’ is as common globally, as the label ‘Made in China,’” he added. (What an awesome news to wake up to this morning. More jobs and more transparency. Time to separate the goats from the sheep. I know a lot of people are already shaking and wetting their pants. Thumbs up Mr. President.) Source: http://www.punchng.com/news/buhari-to-split-nnpc-into-two-plans-fresh-bid-round-for-oil-blocks/

Parents and candidates of Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, set to be stopped from sitting the forthcoming post-UTME, University of Lagos, by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, are dragging the board to the court today (Friday). They will be praying the court to stop further sale of post-UTME form in public universities. Hundreds of UTME candidates had on Wednesday stormed UNILAG toprotest against the decision by the institution to stop them from sitting for the post-UTME. The candidates alleged that the authorities of the university, in liaison with the JAMB, had rolled out a new admission procedure that prevented them from taking the examination to secure admission into the ivory tower. UNILAG and JAMB had defended their different involvements in theexercise. While the Head of Public Relations, JAMB, Dr. Benjamin Fabian, said the board did not intentionally exclude any candidate, the Registrar, UNILAG, Dr. Taiwo Ipaye, said the university was only working with the post-UTME screening list sent by JAMB, adding that only candidates whose names were forwarded to UNILAG by JAMB were eligible for the 2015/2016 post-UTME screening. The President, Association of Tutorial School Operators of Nigeria, Mr. Sodunke Oludotun, who led the Wednesday protest to UNILAG premises, told our correspondent in an interview that the affected parents and students had agreed to seek redress in court on the matter. He said their lawyer would file the suit against JAMB at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi today (Friday). Oludotun said, “We have decided to go to court. We will be in court on Friday. Mr. Femi Falana is aware. Our lawyer too is going to file the court process on Friday. On Friday, all the students and their parents are following us to the court in Ikoyi. We are going to protest there. On our way to the court, we are going to block the Third Mainland Bridge before getting to the court. Our lawyer said all the people that heard of the case in the court were very angry when he went there today (Wednesday). It is annoying. That is one step we are going to take.” He added that the protesters would also involve Falana, a human rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria on the matter. The protesters had on Wednesday alleged that the university raised its cut-off to 250 marks against the recommended 180 marks by JAMB. JAMB had, on July 14, after its sixth consultative meeting with stakeholders in Abuja, pegged the cut-off mark to 180 for candidates seeking university admission and 150 marks for those seeking places in polytechnics and colleges of education.
