Visa approved @ the US Embassy, Abuja yesterday.

Got there around 6:30am packaged like a Jehova's witness with my documents' bag.

@7:30 am, we were checked in and did the biometric stuffs.
Fully composed waiting for my turn to reach, I was suddenly thrown off balance with the way people were denied espcially in window 8 (young white lady). Anyway, I decided to catch some fun with some funny stuffs going on there in order to regain my confidence.
(a woman pretended assumed to understand and speak only Igbo language, but when her visa was approved; she asked the attendant/usher why the VO seized her passport 'in pure English' grin ). .........
...It was certain that I would be interviewed by the 'window 8' lady, I tried using the 'toilet formula' but she was still very busy arguing about 'domestic violence' with one man there (for my mind.."oga no gree oh"wink.
The lady @ window 7 then called..

VO:.... (still smiling due to her conversation with the lady she just approved).
Me:....(confidence loading...99%)
VO: Good morning
Me: Good morning ( passed my documents)
VO: Have you been to US before?
Me: No
VO: Why this school?.
Me: It offers excellent research opportunities which tallies with my research interest.
VO: I can see you are going for masters in chemistry.
Me: Yes ma
VO: Why this program?
Me: I intend to be a lecturer upon the completion of this program,..( she starts nodding, still looking @ her computer...then continued typing).. so this program will equip me with the knowledge and research skills necessary for me to succeed as a lecturer.
VO: ...(glanced through my I-20 )..Wow! You got a very nice funding from the school.
Me: Yes ma
VO: May I ####
Me: Pardon.. (..didn't hear what she said)
VO:....(..comes closer to the mic now).. May I see your funding letter please.
Me: Ok....(passed the letter to her)
VO:.....(she perused it, then started nodding like agama lizard)
Me:...(hmm...Obago!!!)
VO: Your Visa has been approved...(she kept on talking but I didn't hear any other thing apart from when she was showing me the resumption date...)
Me: ..(now nodding like the real agama lizard cheesy , ... trying to make sure she doesn't mistakenly pass me my passport) Thank you!!

Very big thanks to Slimmy (de living saint), Seedord (Mr incredible), Profojah( Honorable Professor/Prophet), Bbdd(Mr 'who send you work' cheesy ) Bigfrancis (Chief chef), Walspring, Darklight, Kennyrony, Imperioux, MsNas, Zee..... abeg una plenty!! God bless you all.

Thanks a lot bro. But for Spring 2016 admission, when can I start sending all these to the school? Can I start from now for the spring 2016 next year admission?
Also, all these documents (recommendations from my profs, transcripts, certificate, gre,TOEFL, etc) will all arrive the schools at different days and dates, does it not mean? Or must all those documents gets to the school all at the same time?thanks

Bro please check out their graduate admission page and you will see everything there, from the school/departmental application requirements, application procedure and application dates(starting date (not always) - deadline) for international students...even when to expect their admission decision. You have a lot to do bro (especially if you are a tyro in this aspect), check out other schools according to your interest. As for the documents, just create your application account with them and send any document that is ready (although they will give you guideline on how to do everything).

PLEASE try to carry out some simple tasks OYO before someone will use some painful words on you. Hope I don't sound disrespectful (and I never meant to).

Hope it helps! smiley

These gurus in the house! Aha! You people are bless and rich. U are bless and rich in the sense that u can share part of what u have with people and still have more. Why are u doing this I asked mysef ? You are doing this only to help people both rich and poor to achieve their dreams. Many are happy reading these threads especially mysef. I keep wondering about what brought this forum, I highly salute u people, I give my respect. I started following nairaland like eight months ago and the advise giving here is priceless. Thanks to this forum, here comes my fear; I was given admission(fall 2015) for Chemistry(MSc) with 50% scholarship in one school in US. But I have to defer d admission(Spring 2016) due to the fact that my financial document wud not be ready on time. I deferred, a form was sent and I filled the form and mailed back to them. My fear is I have not heard from the school and I don't want the scholarship to be forfeited. I have mailed the school twice but no response. A friend told me I shouldn't bother that once it has been deferred, the scholarship award is intact. My question is many of u wud have passed thru these processes and I believe u cud help, kindly help me out to relief me of fear. Thanks, am really expecting your reply.

I guess the scholarship is still intact because it's base on academic merit. Please when you email them and get no response, then call them (worry them shocked) smiley

Hope it helps!!

People are really getting a full funding and partially funding financial aids for masters in the US
Pls how are they doing it ? All I have is 2m, and I desire an mph in the US
Pls how can I do it ?

It's all about packaging and endurance bro, because it can't just land on your doorstep like that (depending on the school, your course/program and your profile (ie your academic background and work experience). Hence, just like Walspring said , you have to do vigil all day and night trying to do the following:

(1) Get a school of your choice.
(2) Check out for professors you can work with in your department as a Graduate Assistant (either Research Assistant or Teaching Assistant** although the TA is mostly for PhD students).
(3) Study the professor's profile. Know his/her research area if you are going for RA position, or you go for TA position if you have the required skills (both academic and personal).
(4) Construct a concise email that you will send the professor. Please don't make these mistakes at this stage:
(a) Sending "....... please I need funding" or sending something that looks like a generic email. Present yourself properly and don't go straight to funding like Bigfrancis said earlier "don't be direct....". Talk about the knowledge you will gain and not the funds.
(b) Don't email two professors in a department @ a time(a week interval is OK), because you don't know if they are close & also their discussions. It can show that you are just desperate.

Then you have to expect snubs, rejections (out of funds) and acceptances from the different profs you emailed.
However, in some PhD programs, you don't have to contact any prof before getting a Graduate Assistantship (tuition waiver + monthly stipend & others) but as for masters, you have to do it (in most cases) or all you can get is just 50% scholarship base on your academic background.

NB: Most funds (full) are given in Fall and I guess you are running out of time. But nothing is impossible bro, maybe one has been waiting for you.

Hope it helps!! smiley

what @bbdd meant is dat ur internship serves as work experience. You also don't have to check any of those implicating questions or else... My housemanship and medical officer job during my NYSC plus my present job all served as work experience for me. Hope u clarified smiley

Who send you work?
Is a pharmacist a chemical weapon specialist?
Don't cause problems for yourself that will cause administrative processing forever.

Just list your job as pharmaceutical intern and move.
Don't go and overdo so they won't flag you.
They take terrorism issues seriously.

Don't cause problems for yourself pls.

I only asked a question and I don't why you have to respond harshly.
When someone is undergoing training, does it mean that the person has been "employed"??
I only seek advice in order not to implicate myself and not criticism please angry .

Thanks for the information smiley

I served as an intern in a pharmaceutical company; should I list it under previous employment or specialized skill (chemical) while filling the DS-160 form, because it is related to my course of study.

You are welcome, boss. That's why I advise people to wait for their I20 forms so they can confirm their schools' codes and sevis numbers because when these their schools' codes and sevis numbers are been sent through email, mistakes might happen by either omission or commission. Are you a Giant(Alumnus of Unizik)?

No....just a fan smiley

Boss, if you are having doubts about your school's code, then I will advise you to either contact the school or you wait till Wednesday. But how did you know that your school code was wrong if you don't have the I20 form yet? Maybe the school sent you its code and sevis number. As regards to Sevis fee, create a coupon by logging into this website: www.fmjfee.com. When a coupon has been generated then send it to the person in US that will pay for you. As regards to filing of Ds160, log into this website: https://ceac.state.gov/GenNIV/ and start up your application. The house is ever ready to guide you.

Thanks a lot Darklight. With respect to the school code issue, the "__214F__" is fixed on school code's space while filling out the SEVIS form, "3 letters-214F-5numbers-3numbers". You can check out yours. Even the 3 letters they sent me were "N0L" instead of NOL ie the code for TN.

Thanks again De Great Zikite

Advice please,

My I-20 is still on transit, but the school sent me the necessary information to book for a visa interview. However, I realised that they made a mistake on the school code (instead of __214F___, they sent ___213F___). So, am I to wait for the I-20 or just proceed ??(despite discovering such reckless mistake)

Secondly, can I fill the SEVIS form myself and someone in US pays, or will the person fill the form for me and pay? And how do I get this DS-160 confirmation number??

#Tyro

**The I-20 arrives next week Wednesday, but I want to book for interview before then**

please answer me nah; is that where the available interview dates is checked? On the left hand side of the page, that reads "First Available Appointment is Tuesday June 23, 2015"? I chose Abuja.
You only see the "first available date" there, but when you 'really' want to book for the interview, you can then pick any other date (just like your GRE & TOEFL). That "June 23..." is the closest/first available date out of all other dates.
Hope it helps smiley

Hi please how do I view available interview dates? I have logged in to the CGI website, is it that "the first available appointment is Tuesday 23 June 2015" on the left hand side of the page?

Also how do you guys present evidence of sufficient home-tie? Or rather is there anything like that?
.
23 June 2015? pls which place is that..... Abuja or Lagos?? because what I'm seeing here is 13th July for Lagos and I need a closer date.

Hello, I want to verify if I can use My GRE account's score print out go for visa interview in place of my original GRE scores sheet from ETS, since it will take time to get that. Also, I would like to get a comprehensive list of things I need to go with, and likewise advice from you guys. I am counting on you gurus!!
