Politics / Re: FG Makes Fresh Offer, ASUU Insists On UTAS by CzarChris(m): 9:49am On Sep 30, 2022 |
egunna:Yes this is the truth, but now they've discovered that their services is worth nothing to the country they are slaving for and many who had any form of patriotism(believe me I know academics, over bookuru comes with a lot of illusions ) whatsoever believing that things will be better someday are now disillusioned. Japa things on everybody's minds right now. Within the next 6months, the number of professionals that might have left this country might be enough to form a new geopolitical zone. Just saying. 1 Like |

MUTERIKA:I totally disagree with you on this, what ASUU is doing is for the best. IPPIS has been proven over and over again to be a scam. Just last week the FG discovered over 54,000 fake/ghost workers in the system, that's hundreds of millions if not billions of naira in the pockets of a few people monthly. This week alone another 800+ fake workers were discovered in ippis itself. The embattled AGF was discovered to have stolen over 200billion naira, through this same ippis. HABA!!! Who do us this thing for this country? If not for ASUU's insistence and probing would all these loopholes be discovered? The country owes ASUU a debt of gratitude for these discoveries. On your other point, I don't think you understand the scale at which Nigerian professionals are needed abroad, how did that happen? Did the Nigerian professionals jump out of the sky or where taught by somebody? If someone taught them, then who are those people? I'm even afraid for our university system right now. After the 2020 strike, the country lost over 250 lecturers to other African countries (google this). As at today in the university where I work over 12 lecturers have left the country(a few weeks ago here I said they were 6 o), and these are the ones I know personally, now let's think of what will happen when school resumes, some departments will be almost empty. A country where our politicians and corrupt civil servants are opening private universities, what do you expect? They just want to destroy public tertiary education the way they did the public primary and secondary schools. Do you know that FG requested to increase school fees to the tune of 500k in public universities and ASUU refused in other to give the children of the poor a fighting chance in this country? And people say ASUU is only fighting for themselves. Well, let's continue, by the time the best of the best are all gone for the country, then we go dey alright. For people that will come to mention me and say they should go, so that young graduates can come and take over, I pray that happens. But also know that there's such a thing known as mentorship in the academia, when all your best hands have left the country, and all you have are greenhorns, and behold our tertiary educational system has gone to the gutters. 17 Likes 3 Shares |

Odoctor: No mind them, when they start complaining of liver/kidney failure due to excessive use of antibiotics, then they'll borrow sense. BTW, I heard from a friend not a doctor though, that men in particular should avoid antibiotics like Beecham, Ciprofloxin etc. at least for 6months before intercourse to avoid impregnating their lady with a disabled/deformed child. I brushed this away, but now, come to think of it how true is this hypothesis? 1 Like |

Victoronah1:I wanted to have a meaningful conversation with you, but clearly you want to take this conversation to the gutters. Well, good luck with that, I'm out of the trenches and you can't bring me down to your level. Infact all public Universities should be closed down and money to be used to pay the staffs should be channeled to something else. People like me are already out, so continue. |

Victoronah1:Let me say that you are not speaking from a stand point of understanding. How many directors of level 16 are PhD holders? Of primary school teachers that are Masters degree holders? Remember that those specialized doctors are also taught by professors in that field. You spoke about Indian professors, but I thank God you corrected yourself by hinting on the devaluation of our currency, our money has absolutely zero worth as it is right now. Do you know that you keep publishing in journals, both local and international, you do research with zero support from our government or industries in the form of grants. So you do your research from your own pocket, you pay for your publications (most times in dollars) from your own pocket. And you say 800k is too much? HABA!!! Get small conscience nah, I published 2 papers in international journals last year the cheapest cost me $100. By our current exchange rate, that's around ~71,000naira now, don't get me started on my ongoing protons exchange research, that's costing millions of my personal money, I send samples to labs in Canada and Netherlands because we don't have the needed equipment in Nigeria here. A course mate of mine who lectures in the UK was given a €2,000,000 grant by the EU. TWO MILLION EUROS!!! Do you understand where I'm coming from now? Well, not that it matters to me anymore now. I have been disillusioned by this country as it is right now. So goodluck to y'all. 8 Likes 1 Share |

galantjoe:And the youths won't have any mentor to guide them in their careers as lecturers. Well, you can discern the result of that. Nigerian lecturers are currently the lowest paid in Africa. We are in a country where a LGA councilor earns more than a professor and you accuse ASUU of being gluttonous and being greedy. No problem, when Nigerian public tertiary education goes the way the public secondary and primary schools then our eyes go open. So continue |

Kingharzyz:I smiled at this, I'm not saying that there are no bad eggs in the Universities, of course there are. But it's the generalization that I really don't personally like. Okay, let me give you this challenge. Go to your niece's school, go to the HOD's office and request for her results, any results you see there that you are not comfortable with request for a remark of those courses and watch your niece beg you to overlook it. I have seen my fair share of rubbish in the university, you'll see a female student dress suggestively to your office begging you to upgrade an exam that the results are not even out yet, because she knows that she didn't do well in the exam. My students know better than to approach me with such rubbish, because I've publicly embarrassed a few that tried that, staffs that don't have selfcontrol will want to take advantage of that situation and you'll see that same student come out to scream blue murder. There avenues provided to students to report such behaviors by staffs even anonymously. Take advantage of it, or you can PC me and I'll guide you on how to go about it. 1 Like |

Well, personally I currently have an offer from a Australian Engineering firm which I'm about partnering with as a consultant. I'm currently dotting all the iiis and crossing all the tees. So screw the strike, after my wedding this December God willing, I go leave this country for una. BTW, in my field we are only about 15 in Nigeria, and we are few worldwide, I know how much in revenue I generate for my university yearly in terms of international students that come to Nigeria for my classes, don't get me started with the IOC staffs that come on short courses here, I know my worth dude, so goodluck. 2 Likes |
