Lazy pedophiles, sex for grade corrupt lecturers, how will they cope and adapt in a lawful country?
Cos they are used to insolence, harassing and victimizing students here.
So from your analysis, it is safe to deduce that all Nigerian lecturers are pedophiles, and they all go around harassing and victimizing students?

The brain drain Nigeria is currently experiencing is alarming. I personally know at least 6 lecturers who have relocated to the UK and Canada. Even Uganda, Ethiopia and Kenya are currently recruiting Nigeria academicians. Professors who are supposed to be mentoring young lecturers are leaving the country in droves. Don't be surprised if school resumes and more than half of university lecturers are out leaving massive vacuum that will take this country decades to fill. It is well.

Education / UNILAG Leads Mass Resignation Of Lecturers Over ASUU Strike by CzarChris(m): 10:18pm On Aug 30, 2022
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) is leading other public tertiary institutions in the number of lecturers resigning their posts due to the federal government’s poor handling of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU’s) ongoing strike.

Dele Ashiru, the UNILAG’s ASUU chapter chairman recently disclosed in Arise Television interview that about 70 percent of the institution’s best lecturers have resigned from their jobs.

Ashiru in his speech reiterated that the federal government’s disposition towards university professors is disrespectful and insensitive.

“The impact of the government’s insensitivity and deployment of the weapon of hunger might not be immediately known until after the strike. As I speak with you, more than 70percent of bright and promising young academics retained by the university through mentorship have all left the country for greener pastures due to the poor conditions of service in Nigeria.

“Those that are left are on the verge of leaving. No government in the history of Nigeria has been so insensitive, brash, and disrespectful of the best brains in the country. This is unfortunate and a shame,’’ he said.

The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife also is among the institutions affected by this ugly development.

According to Adeola Egbedokun, the ASUU chapter chairman at OAU lecturers have begun to resign and relocate abroad for greener pastures.
However, he could not give an accurate number of lecturers that have resigned from their jobs in the institution,

Similarly, Oluyinka Awopetu, the ASUU chairman at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA)-Ondo State revealed that lecturers are resigning in their numbers and relocating abroad for a better life.

“There, of course, are lecturers that are traveling out of the country in pursuance of further qualifications.”

“It is impossible to say they abandoned the profession authoritatively. Others sought ways of coping in this difficult and trying time as well. One may not be able to say if they are coming back or not! If you were in their shoes and you find a better opportunity, what will you do please?” he asked.

Recalled that Emmanuel Osodeke, the president of ASUU had lamented the mass resignation of lecturers in most public universities due to the federal government approach of ‘no work, no pay’ which the union members considered insensitive.

“So many lecturers are leaving to engage in farming and others; lecturers are tired of the treatment they’re receiving from the government and because of this, they are looking for alternatives. So many more will leave even after the strike too.

“I pity the country; Nigeria will be the loser for it. Instead of coming to the table; look at how they will solve the issue, rather, they believe in punishing lecturers. It’s so sad. Your lecturers went on strike, you believe they will become hungry and come back to beg. Many lecturers will also leave to venture into other areas; some are also looking at becoming self-employed,” Osodeke said.

ASUU embarked on a 30-day warning strike on February 14 to give the federal government the opportunity to address its demands, which the government failed to do, and the strike is still lingering after about 195 days without a clear direction of what comes up next.

I think the government should only make concessions that are realistic.

If ASUU wants to live in the cloud or blackmail government because it is close to elections, let them do their worst.

Whoever takes over would meet the same reality maybe even worse on ground.

Remember, if they strike for 1 year, they'll be expecting the entire backlog be paid.

Students please continue supporting ASUU.
Everything has been agreed to by ASUU, it's just the backlog that is the current bone of contention. FG said no payment of backlogs, ASUU says it's either you pay the backlog or we start a fresh session and scrap the session within the strike period. It's that simple. It's the FG that has been blackmailing ASUU agreement reached since 2017. Haba mana!

Only Dubai tries to accommodate the Rich Black foreigners but now, they're driving them out too.

That's why we need to develop our country. That's why we need Tinubu, the most progressive competent liberal leader among the candidates need to be voted.

Tinubu's legacies as a Lagos governor include..

1. Creation of Agencies (which employed & still employs thousands of employees):
LSDPC, Public Works, LASTMA, LAMATA, LIRS, much more... Other agencies were then created by then Gov Fashola e.g LASRRA, etc.

2. Building of Public facilities: Standard Millennium Schools, Markets across the state, LASU projects and LASU Teaching Hospital, Other Major Hospitals/General Hospitals includes:

a. Ifako-Ijaye Hospital
b. Alimosho Hospital
c. Somolu Hospital
d. Mushin Hospital
e. Ibeju-Lekki hospital etc and several health care centres.

3. Massive Housing Estates across Lagos.

4. Development of Lekki Ajah axis and others.

5. Conceived the BRT project and constructed the dedicated BRT lane from Island to Mainland. BRT operation started fully under Fashola.

6. Massive Infrastructural development: Construction of Road networks all across Lagos. He invited President Obasanjo to Lagos to commission roads in Surulere, Yaba and other parts of Lagos.

7. Providing IPP to Lagos State Institutions, from General Hospital Lagos Island to Secretariat Alausa

8. Focus on IGR by making several economic policies which led to enormous increase in Lagos revenue today. Ensured Lagos thrived despite Obasanjo seizing Lagos allocation for years.

9. Development of Lagos State Public Service & Secretariat Alausa encompassing many MDAs. Employment of Technocrats to head MDAs.

10. Another big achievement was the conception and starting of Lekki seaport, Eko Atlantic, Lekki Free trade zone and other multi billion dollar projects on the Island.

11. In addition, Tinubu also brought in the First telecom into Nigeria.

Above all, ABAT brought in technocrats into the State Public sector as Commissioners, Heads of MDAs, which has continued till now. He recruited across tribes..

In summary, ABAT is the architect behind the modern Lagos.

Let each candidates list their legacies in relative to how they would improve the country or shut up their noisemaking. Simple as ABC. We're not gonna ride on blind faith like before. Let us improve the country. Tinubu is the only one who can.. The only progressive competent liberal Leader among all the candidates.

Now this is what I'm talking about, an issue based campaign, not the throwing of mud at your opponent and smear campaign. This is the most sensible and non tribal charged campaign I've ever seen online.
Please advise others to follow this method. We are divided enough as a country as it is now. Let's not add salt to injury.
Thanks.

Politics / ECONOMIC CRISIS: Governors Advise FG To Pay Off Civil Servants Above 50yrs by CzarChris(m): 11:41pm On Aug 04, 2022
Federal Secretariat, Abuja

EXCLUSIVE: Nigeria’s Economic Crisis: Governors advise FG to pay off civil servants above 50 years
The governors also ask the government to raise taxes across board and levy anyone earning N30,000 and above monthly.

By Oladeinde Olawoyin

August 4, 2022
Reading Time: 3 mins read

Nigerian governors have advised the federal government to offer federal civil servants who are older than 50 years a one-off retirement package to exit the service, as part of coordinated efforts to instill fiscal discipline and prevent the nation from imminent economic collapse.

The governors made the proposal at a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in July, PREMIUM TIMES gathered from sources privy to details of the meeting.

The proposal also urged the government to begin implementation of the updated Stephen Oronsaye Report, which suggested merger and shutdown of agencies and parastatals with duplicated or contested functions as a way to address bureaucratic inefficiency and reduce the cost of governance.

Officials familiar with details of the meeting, who spoke to PREMIUM TIMES, explained that the governors were concerned about the deteriorating state of the economy and a proposal to restore fiscal discipline was presented to the federal government.

The federal civil service employs just about 89,000 people but will spend about N4.1 trillion on personnel costs this year, from its N17 trillion budget for the entire country. It is not clear how many workers are above 50 years of age, or how much goes to them.

The suggestion comes as indications emerge that the nation may be teetering towards the cliff of economic collapse.

PREMIUM TIMES reported Wednesday that Nigeria’s external reserves amount to only $15 billion, well below the $36 billion balance on the gross external reserves claimed by the bank. With the nation spending N5.9 trillion on imports in the first quarter of the year, reserves of $15 billion would barely cover four months of import.

Last week, details emerged that the balance in Nigeria’s Excess Crude Account had depleted significantly from $35.37m to $376,655, leaving the nation with no buffers to stabilize the economy and its currency. Yet another indication emerged recently that the nation was broke as debt service surpassed revenue.

According to details of the 2022 fiscal performance report for January through April, Nigeria’s total revenue stood at N1.63 trillion while debt servicing stood at N1.94 trillion, showing a variance of over N300 billion.

TEXEM Advert
‘Fiscal Discipline’
As part of measures to restore fiscal discipline, the governors advised the federal government to reduce expenditure immediately by eliminating petrol subsidy and NNPC-funded projects, cap the Social Investment Programme (SIP) and National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy (NPRGS) budgets to N200 billion, eliminate extra-constitutional deductions from FAAC, and reduce SWV items for SDG and NASS Constituency projects.

The governors also asked the government to reduce duplications (e.g. empowerment programmes) and waste, reduce 1% granted to NASENI to 0.2%, amend the Act in 2022 Finance Bill, reduce personnel costs of federal government MDAs, and expedite privatization of non-performing assets like the NDPHC power plants.

Similarly, the governors urged that the 2023 – 2025 MTEF should reflect the suggestions and government’s commitment to restore fiscal discipline while the planned 22% increase in salaries in 2023 be reconsidered. They added that the fiscal deficit should be reduced to no more than 2% of GDP in 2023 – 2025.

Foreign Exchange and Reserves
To conserve foreign exchange and grow the reserves, the governors suggested that foreign trips by MDAs, including budgetary-independent agencies such as FIRS, NPA, NIMASA and NCC, be put on hold for at least one year. They also urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs not to issue requests for Visas to foreign embassies for federal government officials and their families, unless express approval is granted by the presidency.

READ ALSO: My govt has re-engineered Nigeria’s economy – Buhari
They also suggested the movement from State Income Taxation to Consumption Taxation, adding that with the introduction of 3% Federal Income Tax, state-level PIT should be abolished. Similarly, they suggested that state Sales Taxes (flat rate of 10%) should be enacted for the 36 States and FCT, VAT levels increased to 10% with a timeline to raise it to between 15% and 20%, as well as re-introduction and passage of VAT into the Exclusive List. It was not clear whether all governors agreed with the position on VAT being moved to the exclusive list.

To improve tax revenues, they suggested that the federal government should introduce a flat 3% Federal Personal Income Tax on all Nigerians earning more than N30,000 per month, adding that persons earning less than N30,000 per month whether employed or not, including farmers and traders, should pay a monthly FPIT of N100. Similarly, telecoms firms and NIMC should collaborate to ensure deduction of this from phone credit of individuals and linking to NIN and BVN.

The governors also suggested centralization of the collection of all federal oil and non-oil taxes in one agency, the FIRS, while Customs, NPA, and others assess and issue demands. They suggested that the Federal Government improve crude oil and gas production, resolve lingering issues of ownership of gas in PSCs (eg Nnwa-Doro, OML 129) to help position Nigeria to take advantage of the gas needs in Europe, and provide incentives to expedite development of vandalism-resistant deep offshore fields like Bonga SW (Shell), Preweoi (Total), Zabazaba (ENI) and Owowo (Exxon).

The governors equally advised the government to encourage (and pre-finance, if necessary) Dangote Refinery to early completion to reduce massive future outflows of foreign exchange.

Are they fighting for their selfish interests or that of the students?

Personally, I don’t get seduced by the facade of fighting the government every time in the name of strike and people will willingly pull their strides behind ASUU. It doesn’t always move me. I want to ask the question; is ASUU really fighting for the well-being of the students, or are they using the fact that Nigeria is a failed government to clone as a facade to pursue their selfish interests, because they know that people will always fall behind them?

If ASUU is fighting for the welfare of the students, why won’t they also consider the welfare of the students and return to school? Why are they so comfortable that our students are at home since February, 2022 up till now? That is a period of 5 months and they are not even ready to move.

They don’t even care. As for me, I don’t support the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) joining ASUU in the strike. If ASUU is fighting for the welfare of the students, and they want us to believe that they have no ulterior motive, why haven’t they come out with their templates and convince Nigerians of their demands? Have they explained to the students exactly what they are fighting for and how it will benefit the students when granted?

During my days as a student, up till now, ASUU have always gone on strike and part of their demands have always been met, but I have never seen any significant improvement in the services they render to the students. The lecturers still trade sex for marks, they still sell books, handouts and collect inducements before a student passes their courses. And most importantly, they have not improved their teaching modules to enhance the education they offer.

So, how exactly is their protest in the interest of the students?

I want to know, and would be glad if anyone can help me out.

Cc. Mynd44, lalasticalala Dominique Seun.
This statement is nothing but a failed attempt to white wash a failed government. A country where a professor earns 335k monthly as salary? Even with regular publications in journals both local and international? No provisions are made for research grants, so you do your research from your own pocket. Suffice it to say that Nigerian lecturers are one of the least paid in Africa. I wonder why ASUU is even fighting for revitalization funds. Let them continue giving lectures to 3000+ students in 500capacity halls, let students get to the point where they have to get lectures under trees, since they can't afford the luxury of paying millions to private universities. Let our laboratories remain obsolete and in the stone age while the world continues to advance technologically. Let just fight for their salaries and allowances which a few billions will take care of and leave the Nigerian students from poor homes to their fate.

Are you happy now?

In civilized countries, the rate at which your students pass out and graduate is testament to how great and efficient you are as a lecturer and so a professor in harvard would say I AM A GREAT LECTURER BECAUSE ALL MY STUDENTS PASSED AND GRADUATED.

This is the bragging rights of any professor in civilized countries.

Meanwhile this failure of a professor in Nigeria bragging right is how many students fail his class and drop out of the department and get kicked out of the university. This is the bragging right of this failure who is too brain dead to understand that if most of your students are failing and being kicked out of the university it is a testament of how bad of a lecturer you are.

I hereby henceforth submit that all Nigerian lecturers should be put on a salary of 200 thousand a month because that is what they deserve. They dont deserve more than that until they can make sure that all their students graduate and know what they are doing after they graduate.
I don't know how I missed this topic. Well, your display of ignorance is quite amazing I must say. Anyway, continue.

Head-to-head, Obi might perform slightly better than Shettima.

It was during Shettima time that the infamous terrorist group, Boko Haram gained ground.

Obi, on his side, aided the Awkuzu SARS headed by CSP Nwafor that killed hundreds of people. So in terms of security, they both flopped.

Economically, Obi seems to outshine Shettima. To talk education and infrastructure, Shettima is ahead.

For me, they will share percentage as 52 48 (with 52 in favour of Obi).

But in all fairness, it isn't okay to be comparing a vice presidential candidate to a presidential candidate. Obi should be compared with Tinubu.

Are you people forgetting that Obi left as governor of Anambra State in 2014. Years before the SARS issues especially SARS awkuzu matter came up? Or is this a case of selective amnesia?

It's textbook tribalism, Prof. Wole Soyinka is national asset and pride to all black Africans no doubt, but twisting it this way is very wrong that's my point.

NB: where's the hypocrisy there? I'm Igbo a thorough around Igboman, with royal blood flowing in my veins. But I cannot and can never support evil. My fiancee is not Igbo, best friend is a Yoruba Muslim from Oyo, my childhood friend jamiu is from Ogun, my business partners are from Benue, Kano, Bayelsa and Delta States, and yes spent my 1st formative 22years in igboland, but work has taken all over. So it pains me whenever I see people like us killing ourselves over tribal sentiments. I've dinned with most of these people you call top politicians. Believe me they don't care about religion or tribe, but they use it to tear us apart. Take it or leave it. There somethings I know about these people that will shake the average Nigerian to his/her bone marrow. So that's why I'm pained whenever I see us killing ourselves over absolutely nothing.

Nothing concerns Achebe in this whole debacle, but his name was mentioned. Address the issue not another person or group of people that it doesn't concern. That's my point. Even Prof. Wole Soyinka has never in all his speeches I'm aware of insulted or redeculed the Igbos, so why would he go down to that level?
Tribalism has really eaten deep into this country and the politicians are reaping bountifully from it. We must outgrow this.

Well, feel free to throw insults at me if you like, I just said my mind.

Even your Achebe or whatever cannot match Soyinka brother in achievements and that’s the younger brother.

Professor Wole Soyinka is greater than Achebe anytime!
Why on Earth do you have to be tribal with everything? He never compared Soyinka with Achebe, he never spoke out of tune of being Igbo, Hausa, Ijaw, Ughrobo or even Yoruba. Why are you this insecure? Is Wole Soyinka not one of the founding fathers of Pyrates Confraternity? Which was a cult group that gave birth to the hydra-headed monster destroying the youths of today? Agreed, they probably didn't mean for it to play out this way, but it did. Even though they've stopped recruiting undergraduates, which ends the cultism narrative, but what's done is done.
So please stop this tribalism nonsense and face reality. HABA!!!

Do have a lovely day
Woman, you can practice your lesbianism in peace and stop this toxicity you display on every thread against men. Yes you hate men, I get it. Some of us also have terrible experiences against women, but it didn't turn us gay nor did it make us women haters. Enough of this.

ASUU is a selfish body that should be disbanded
Oga, go and disband it now, when public universities go the way of public primary and secondary schools, and the masses can no longer afford university education because of the high cost of private universities, then your eye go clear.
Ungrateful human being, if it was because of just the welfare universities would have been opened a long time ago, but ASUU leadership decided to fight for better facilities, well equiped labs through the revitalization fund for ungrateful people like you.
Have you even done your research to find out that Nigerian university lecturers are one of the best in the world and one of the lowest paid in Africa?
To hell with you and your likes, I'm leaving this accursed country to where my services will be appreciated.
