Music/Radio / Re: K16 - New track 'Oya' Can Somebody Post The Download Link Please by DaBlaze: 11:53am On Mar 10, 2010
How una dey? Just wanted to drop a quick line in support of this record. Too busy to be commenting daily these days. As you all know, i discovered K16 on this site and as of that time, he wasn't popular here at all. I could see the point of view of some of the commentars about his style and so on, but with this record, i firmly believe K16 will be a household name by this time next year.

I've also noticed that the regular posters are more or less ignoring the record almost intentionally. This i can't understand. This is a hit track. Very good beat, good unique flow and a party jam as well. These kind of records don't come out everyday

It is one of the reasons i stopped coming here. There seem to be various camps of artist promotion who only comment on their own artists and ignore everything else.

In closing, i will say well done to K16 for finally coming of age and more grease to his elbows. I am a fan and if you need any help promoting or otherwise, i will be very willing to help. kudos

@ Rhymstein. I know these tracks and i acknowlege that they are some rappers doing it. I don't like the IGHO one though. It almost sounds condescending.
I saw Mode9's interview, he doesn't fake when he's talking normally. It's only when he's rapping. Out of all of them, as per keeping it real, i will say Ruggedman is the realest. He raps exactly the way he talks and he dosen't try to fake an accent. Take him as you see him.
I like K16 as well, but i haven't heard him talking,so i don't know what he sounds like. Also like Oshamo/i know send you, Suspect dey try. He doesn't do any fake stuffs.

Anyway, to break through and appeal to the world, we still have to come with something different. Be it the beats or the flow and subject matter. Trying to sound like Yankee rappers won't get us anywhere. They have enough of those in Yankee already.

Dey dream for da grin there,he no fit break into southern n northern nigeria n u believe an average american kid wld buy or hail him,evn cypress hill n fat joe that r latinos rap wit english

Thanks for the reply Rhymstein. Please, give me the name of one of these albums let me go and listen. I personally do not know of any recent ones that are like that. Or better, recommend a couple of tracks. I'll promote them

Yes there is the language barrier for DaGrin. You have to be Yourba to appreciate it. But like i said, at least it's different. A lot of the rappers i hear these days (i will admit, i haven't listened to their full albums, just singles), all try to sound American and don't rap about Naija proper.

Junkie's mixtape was good though. I enjoyed a lot of those tracks.

Music/Radio / Re: Is Rapping In Vernacular Whack? by DaBlaze: 11:28am On Feb 11, 2010
This is a good topic. Although we think a lot of Nigerian rappers with their fake accents are the greatest, take them global and they will fall badly. At least lyrically. Anyone remember Papoose? Cannibus? Cassidy? These guys will murder any Nigerian Rapper on their so called punchlines, but even they can't get a deal, talk less of the MI's and CArtair's.

Rap is an opportunity for you to talk about yourself, where you come from, your trial and tribulations and maybe even some social commentary thrown in. All our rappers seem interested in, is who can outpunchline the other or who has the most money.

At least pidgin rappers and rappers like DaGrin offer something different. I believe like Junkie said that they will have a better chance of cracking the market, than the people that just copy the accent and try to make the words sound clever.

But in my opinion, the rapper that will burst through, is the one that raps well with a good flow, but talks about Nigeria. Punchline, similes everything.
something like, i flow faster than the niger river/pack more punch than barrow pushers (sorry i'm not a rapper, but you get my point)

even just day to day life in naija. something like that. Just my own say anyway.

Why is she sueing? Everyone knows she's a lesbo. She will have to prove she's not a lesbo to win the money. Does she really want that?

Personally, I think if Asa got enough publicity in the US, she'd have won a Grammy or two.

I agree with you on this. Her record label is not doing enough to push her.

Not that i give a sh*t, but Blaise should get it on the lyrical alone. Eva and some others coming up worth watching as well. Sasha is an EVE clone. She's fallen off just like eve has. QED

If any Nigerian has a chance of winning a Grammy, it will be Nneka. Original music, Original lyrics, original voice. Not the recycled songs and flows that everyone praises on this site like their the best thing since sliced bread.

mailmalc:

Chris Brown (Talented & Skillful, he's got the whole art running through his veins, very unpredictable steps, he could dance like e'ry other but the others dare not try to pull his kind'a stunts!)

Usher (He just learnt how to dance jor!)

Omarion (Too much energy and nearly all his steps are pedictable, no thanks to his Choreography)

Ginuwine (He's got crazy moves but lacks that composure)

Based on current form, i'll agree with this list. But Usher won't be there for much longer.
Music/Radio / Re: Is This Song Not Good Enough To Be On Notjustok? by DaBlaze: 4:56pm On Jan 21, 2010
@ Frijos. In my opinion, the song is okay, but nothing particularly groundbreaking. I think demo 47's comments are very well constructed and you'll be wise to listen to them. It's their site. They decide what to put there or not. When you start your own site, You can post as many of your songs as you like.

I don't think starting this campaign against them is the way to go. What if they decide that they will never post anything you do again nko? What will you do then? Take out an advert?

It's better to have friends than enemies in the music business. Put your ego aside. It's not by force.

Neither do i, but he just made Kilode talking about how people are hating on him for the Jay-z flow. So if the flow isn't real to start with, Anyway, he's on the map now, so lets see what happens

Music/Radio / Re: Vector On Jimmy’s Jumpoff by DaBlaze: 7:32pm On Jan 19, 2010
Not bad, but notice how he no longer sounds like Jay Z when he's freestyling. Which means he's faking the Jay-Z flow. He sounds alright with his own voice. Why can't he just use that and be himself.

whats happening folks? no one is talking about lady gaga here?

If you start a topic worth talking about, maybe we will. I'll help you

When Beyonce senses a threat from another female artist, she does a duet with them, so people can make a direct comparison and choose her. Do you think that was the case with the Video Phone duet with Lady GAGA?

have your say guys.
. who's the best?
. who's got more swag?
. who's the most sexy, charming and respectful
. who's more creative
. who can win a grammy?

It's not about best. Their styles are different.
As for swag, i'll say Naeto. He's stood out to me for a long time
Question makes no sense, are you gay?
Creativity is in the eye of the beholder. Depends on what the music does for you
Don't you mean, who can get in the top 100 of the billboard charts, before you even start talking of a Grammy?
I think Naeto C anyway, because he's more commercial. MI sounds too much like exsisting rappers in yankee. There's nothing that will distinguish his flow. And while his punchlines are good, those guys will wipe the floor with him
Music/Radio / Re: Ruggedy Baba Is Back. by DaBlaze: 7:29pm On Jan 17, 2010
Didn't like the previous single "bangin", but this one is really good. I guess Ruggedman has stepped up his game to compete with the newwer cats. IcePrince is good, but i think Rugged sounds more naija which i like.

Webmasters / Re: Hand Coding And Dreamweaving. by DaBlaze: 2:05pm On Jan 15, 2010
I notice no one is mentioning CMS's. In a way, Dreamweaver is old news now. For anyone starting from scratch, i'll recommend learning XHTML, followed by CSS, followed by Joomla, Drupal, Wordpress (take your pick) and then top it up with Flash and some actionscript in the mix.

You'll be making absolutely stunning websites in about a year to 9 months. Get a good graph guy as well if you're not good at that. The web is very visual these days.
Music/Radio / Re: Why Do Nigerian Artists Have Poorly Written Songs? by DaBlaze: 12:37pm On Jan 15, 2010
asha 80:

Funnily it is the poorly written ones that get recognition in the country eg terry g's songs, timaya's songs,Ofokasibe, etc

Music is the opium of the masses and in a country with the level of suffering as Nigeria the dumber it is, probably the better. Don't think, just chineke me, moet, champagne, unu ga ebgu madu le, swagga, etc the list is endless.
If the song actually has good lyrics and a good melody, nobody will want to buy it.

Or if your a rapper, you need a fake american accent as standard. It's ridiculous
Webmasters / Re: Hand Coding And Dreamweaving. by DaBlaze: 12:22pm On Jan 15, 2010
@ topic.

Depends on what kind of webdeveloper you are. I personally use Dreamweaver as my code editor, especially when i'm writing CSS code, cause it helps me a lot when i'm stuck + i can view my results on the fly. I primarily work with Joomla and amend the default (or bought) template with CSS, but i started webdeveloping with Dreamweaver.

Hope this makes sense
Music/Radio / Re: Why Do Nigerian Artists Have Poorly Written Songs? by DaBlaze: 12:16pm On Jan 15, 2010
songman:

hi guys, ladies,

i believe the music here can improve if artists try and get some music education!

what do you think.

Music is now being treated as a business in Nigeria. It's not about songwriting or making a classic record, it's about making a record quick and making as much money as possible. There are a few good artists out there releasing really good material, but they are very few.
The truth is, most of the people in the business can't even sing talk less of write a good song. Autotune has now become a blessing, but also a bad curse at the same time.
Take it away and most peoples careers will be over
