HealthRe: Salt Therapy For Ebola- Dangerous Rumour by Dabss(m): 5:31am On Aug 08, 2014
ACCORDING TO WHO
Ways to prevent infection and transmission:-
While initial cases of Ebola virus disease are contracted by handling infected animals or carcasses, secondary cases occur by direct contact with the bodily fluids of an ill person, either through unsafe case management or unsafe burial practices. During this outbreak, most of the disease has spread through human-to-human transmission. Several steps can be taken to help in preventing infection and limiting or stopping transmission.

Understand the nature of the disease, how it is transmitted, and how to prevent it from spreading further.
Listen to and follow directives issued by your country’s respective Ministry of Health.
If you suspect someone close to you or in your community of having Ebola virus disease, encourage and support them in seeking appropriate medical treatment in a care facility.
If you choose to care for an ill person in your home, notify public health officials of your intentions so they can train you and provide appropriate gloves and personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as instructions as a reminder on how to properly care for the patient, protect yourself and your family, and properly dispose of the PPE after use. N.B. WHO does not recommend home care and strongly advises individuals and their family members to seek professional care in a treatment centre.
When visiting patients in the hospital or caring for someone at home, hand washing with soap and water is recommended after touching a patient, being in contact with their bodily fluids, or touching his/her surroundings.
People who have died from Ebola should only be handled using appropriate protective equipment and should be buried immediately.
Additionally, individuals should reduce contact with high-risk infected animals (i.e. fruit bats, monkeys or apes) in the affected rainforest areas. If you suspect an animal is infected, do not handle it. Animal products (blood and meat) should be thoroughly cooked before eating
Infection occurs from direct contact through broken skin or mucous membranes with the blood, or other bodily fluids or secretions (stool, urine, saliva, semen) of infected people. Infection can also occur if broken skin or mucous membranes of a healthy person come into contact with environments that have become contaminated with an Ebola patient’s infectious fluids such as soiled clothing, bed linen, or used needles.

HAND HYGIENE
Either an alcohol-based hand rub or soap and running water can be used for hand hygiene, applying the correct technique recommended by WHO. It is important to always perform hand hygiene with soap and running water when hands are visibly soiled. Alcohol-based hand rubs should be made available at every point of care (at the entrance and within the isolation rooms and areas); running water, soap, and single use towels should also be always available.

why do you think we can't get paid with nigerian paypal? Once you link and verify you paypal account to your mastercard, paypal can transact with your bank account in dollars. (The naira conversion is done by your bank). During the verification $1.95 is withdrawn from your account and paid back after verification.

EducationRe: Federal Universities Should Have Tuition Fees - Pro-Chancellors by Dabss(m): 6:33pm On Jul 06, 2014
iwonbaoko: There is a difference between the COST and the PRICE of thing in this case fees as far as the UK is concerned. What I am talking about is the cost of providing the service by the provider. The fees for home students in England are subsidized partly and 100% in Scotland. I do not like to engage in arguments without facts. The issue is not about whether it would be nice for everyone to have university education. The issue is what does it cost to provide quality education and how many slots can we afford annually. If we decide we want to do that fine but we must budget for it. To admit 10000 people into a school designed for 1000 asking students to sit on the floor is self deception.
We must remember that students are not the only stakeholders.Employers are too.Even if we deceive students and their parents by awarding them degrees that do not pass muster can we deceive employers? Employment is competition. Do we not do our students a disservice if we allow them to acquire degrees that are clearly inferior to other degrees?
We must put a price on education and BUDGET for it then we will know what we caan and what we cannot afford that is how logical countries operate not on speculative guesses that "we ought to be able to" etc all of that is meaningless.
we get your point. Buut the problem is that after paying, nothing will change. Eg how has the money from petrol subsidy changed Nigeria?

$421 indeed! Only a fool will pay more than 45k for this phone. Why pay 71k for this sh*t when you can get a new s4 for 75k?

PhonesRe: Things Samsung's Galaxy S4 Can Do That Iphone 5S Can't by Dabss(m): 2:40pm On Dec 25, 2013
texazzpete: lol. Silly article. Throw in all the gimmicky, me-too features of the Galaxy S4 and use that as a 'my phone is better than yours argument'?

Some of the points are downright silly. If you buy an iPhone 5S, you KNOW it has a 4 inch screen and you like that screen size just fine. Claiming an advantage for the S4 because it has a one inch bigger screen is just lame.

I have an iPhone 5S and a Galaxy S4. Both complement each other. For me, the main differences lies with the difference between iOS and Android. One is more open, one is a closed source, walled garden ecosystem. Each has their advantages and disadvantages. Bringing up stuff like the IR blaster and NFC that hardly anyone uses is just funny cheesy
+1
apple will never burden it's customers with useless gimmicks like smart pause, air view etc.
Touch ID rocks.

Too much Apple is also not good for the teeth,
It can damage the enamel four times faster than carbonated drinks.
The damage is less when it is eaten during meals.

StarFlux: It's extremely good in low-light conditions (indoor, night etc when most other phones go black or noisy). I've taken some landscape shots with it that are better than the One X's 8mp camera which I had in the past. All in all a very good all-around camera. Doesn't capture the most detail, but it's hands down better than most 8MP cameras out there, and beats out all competition under low light conditions.

In my opinion it's a better phone than the S4. iPhone 5 doesn't deserve to be on the list. Apple hasn't done anything special since the release of the first iPhone, the 5s is just another iPhone that doesn't really bring anything new to the table.
you are joking right? apple hasn't done anything to be on the list?
First of all, the ip5s camera is better than the one's camera. yes, even in low light.
Apple introduced the first ever 64 bit mobile processor, that's not meaningful? Do a little research before spewing trash here dude.

Les: in addition, someone said something on the thread about phone accomplishment, he said he made an inter state journey with his phone but he missed road small, that wouldn't have been possible if he used"Here drive" application because it tells you what to do through out the journey and bring you to your destination with voice navigation, very sweet application(I don't know if it's on android but I don't think so) most great applications are not functioning in Nigeria, major disadvantage. For Facebook?? My phone is Facebook and Facebook is my phone, only Lumia users know what I'm talking about. I don't need to type my msg on Facebook, I speak it, my phone types and send on Facebook o. Imagine when you don't want to type, you just read your msg, the phone types and send. I love my Lumia

PhonesRe: This Airtel Backlash Is Misguided! by Dabss(m): 12:28pm On Dec 05, 2013
texazzpete: Opinions, how do they work?

My opinion is that this is misguided. It IS my business because this is a discussion forum and I choose to opine and discuss on this issue.

The exploit works now, but for how long? For all you know, it's a slow migration/rollout that will take time, and the December 3rd date may just have been the commencement date. We don't know.
if they decide to block non Bb access fine!
Fact: more than half of their current subscribers don't use their sim cards for calls so I don't see that happening but Let's watch and see.
PhonesRe: This Airtel Backlash Is Misguided! by Dabss(m): 12:04pm On Dec 05, 2013
texazzpete: Thank you for mirroring my very words. If you don't like Airtel's service (including their data plans) move away from the network. It took me less than 2 hours to port from Airtel to Etisalat.

This has nothing to do with me 'having change in my pocket'. Airtel BIS was never intended for use in Android phones. People were taking advantage of an exploit that has now been closed. This backlash IS unwarranted.

That said, my OP addresses the main reason why the exploit was so vigorously pursued in the first place. People wanted cheaper Internet for their Android devices. The real conversation here is the provision of more affordable data bundles to the people who aren't exactly high income earners. That discussion is best held at the level of the NCC, or with all the carriers taken on at once (Glo, MTN , Etisalat, Airtel).

Targeting Airtel alone is unfair, unreasonable and useless.

Do you people know that if everyone here contributes a minimum of N1000, we can take out a half page ad in Guardian Newspapers to write an open letter to the NCC and all the carriers? But please, don't let me stop you from making one more thread about breaking your Airtel SIM cards cheesy
I never posted in any of the Airtel threads but I still think it's non of your business since u don't own nairaland or Airtel.

Ps. Airtel Bb plans still work on android. So maybe their insignificant noise was heard after all wink
PhonesRe: This Airtel Backlash Is Misguided! by Dabss(m): 8:24am On Dec 05, 2013
texazzpete: Guys, we get it. You're upset that the exploit you've used to use BIS data on your cheap Android phones is being closed by Airtel. You're upset that now, you'll have to start paying for your data bundles like the rest of the populace. Yes, data plans are not cheap.

But please, can you people STFU for once and stop this incessant whining?
just because you have a little change in your pocket, gives you no right to insult those who complain in the only way they can.
If you don't like a topic, simply ignore it.
IslamRe: A Muslim's View Of The Ban On Alcohol In Kano State by Dabss(m): 7:41pm On Dec 04, 2013
Sissie: We do not have to turn everything into a Christianity vs islam thing. Destroying the bottles affect some Muslims too.
it affects Muslims how?
Sissie: You are comparing alcohol with sugar really!!!!!!!

Alcohol does not only affect the drinker it affects others too, I.e the innocent bystander that gets killed by a drunk driver, the wife that gets molested, etc. The list is endless. Alcoholism is a disease and should be treated as one.

One does not need to be religious to be anti-alcohol.
In other words, everyone that takes alcohol should suffer for the crimes of a few alcoholics?
I agree!
I also agree that the Hijab should be banned in kano too because some girls use it for exam malpractice.
