Beyond your pocket, know that some organizations are grappling with high operating expenses.If you can afford to make some sacrifices, why not try a symbiotic relationship where both partners gain.

Let me share this story.
Some years ago, I managed a team of 2 female HR personnel with about 60 core staff and over 100 auxiliary staff

This may sound unbelievable,both became pregnant a month apart. Both came to me looking worried,“how were we going to manage the pre-natal, delivery and maternity phases”, without any HR personnel.

We thought of temporary staff deployment for some people but felt “HR confidentiality” of information would be eroded by bringing someone outside the team even temporarily.

The next strategy was to get an intern. We weighed the options, cost & implication. While still ruminating about this, one of them said a lady has been persistent about volunteering as an unpaid intern but she had always turned the lady back.

I was taken aback,“really! how can! in this tough economy”(as if we are still not experiencing this)

She has recently graduated from a UK university with a MSc. in HRM, and served in the HR unit of one large organization where she was exposed to some key HR functions

I asked why she wanted to work for free and she told me rather than stay at home, she would use the opportunity to learn more and moreso, her brother still pays her an allowance.

She started working with me directly when the two went on leave. She struggled initially but with patience and coaching, we moved along on her career journey. This was a position that was manned by two professionals with more working experiences than her and here was I, managing her among my other oversight functions aside overseeing the HR unit.

At the end of the 6 months, was proud of her achievement and her learning experience. My work ethics and drive fueled her growth. Guess what, we ended up paying her full money from month one, made her position permanent and she stayed for a year.

During her stay with us, she got an offer as an HR Officer, which i encouraged her to take. Some months later, she called me that her Team Lead had resigned and she was asked if she could step into that role or if they could get a replacement.

Honestly, i told her to step into those shoes, that if she could work with me and had succeeded with so much challenges, the many insights and learning curves, her manning this new role shouldn’t be a problem and that she could reach out anytime, that i would always be there to carry her on my wings.

She did this and in less then a year, dropped by at my place to show her official car.

Growth is intentional!
Growth is easier when you have someone walking alongside with you.

A lot of people have reached out to say it is difficult to get a job without having an influential connection, I totally disagree.

The problem is most of us sit down and expect jobs to come to us.

Employers don't owe you any jobs

See below Strategies that may help your job search;

1. Don't sit at home , move round, attend events

2. When you meet people, do not just greet them and leave, make a connection by striking a conversation and do not be shy to say you need a job.

3. Nurture the connections you make and keep in touch.

Don't expect that once you tell someone once you need a job, they ll always remember.

Keep in touch and don't be a nuisance.

Most people prefer text messages.

4. Do unsolicited visits to companies- A lot of mid sized businesses need employees and they will be willing to hire you.

5. Be well dressed as you move around.

Don't because you are unemployed look tattered and unkept, no employer wants an untidy employee. There are a lot of cheap options.

6. Volunteer, do internships even if the pay only cover your transport & feeding.

Offer to work for free rather than sitting at home. No experience is a waste.

7. Looking for a job is a full time job, so give it your best. Don't be tired of applying for jobs in 2023

Pls I need to get a job, but the experience requirement had made it like one can't get a job. It's like I will design my CV and indicate I will like to work for free to get an experience.

I'm currently there now at Yaba for interview. Will update afterwards. So it's a new company though, it's into real estate consultancy. And he asked we resume for training after documentation. Our remuneration is commission or 50k monthly.
