By Olasunkanmi Akoni LAGOS – Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved a N50,000 relief package for workers across the state for the month of May as part of efforts to cushion the impact of rising economic pressures. The governor announced the measure on Friday during the 2026 Workers’ Day commemoration held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos, themed “Insecurity, Poverty – Bane of Decent Work.” Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, said the payment would be added to workers’ May salaries and would be subject to further review. He said the initiative was part of the state government’s ongoing commitment to supporting workers across all sectors, noting that Lagos continues to depend on the contributions of teachers, health workers, artisans, and civil servants to sustain its growth. “Lagos is great because of you—the teacher who stays after hours, the nurse who takes a third shift, the artisan who passes on their trade to the next generation,” he said. Sanwo-Olu acknowledged prevailing economic challenges, including inflationary pressures and global energy shocks, stressing that government must continue to respond with practical support for workers. “For this May, there will be an additional N50,000 for every worker in Lagos State, across board, irrespective of grade,” he announced. He added that the gesture would be reviewed as necessary in subsequent months. The governor also used the occasion to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare, infrastructure development, and public service delivery. He said the state government remained open to dialogue with organised labour, noting that engagement with unions is essential for sustaining industrial harmony. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2026/05/hardship-sanwo-olu-approves-n50000-relief-package-for-lagos-workers/?utm_source=chatgpt.com |

*BREAKING NEWS* Ogun NLC Suspends Strike, Work to Resume Immediately The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Ogun State has officially suspended its ongoing strike action. This decision comes after intense negotiations with the state government. All workers across the state are directed to resume work with immediate effect, bringing relief to residents who have been impacted by the industrial action. Details of the agreement reached between the NLC and government officials are expected to be released shortly. |
Other grievances leading to the declaration of the trade dispute include: i) Consequential adjustments to the minimum pension, which prompted the establishment of the Olufunmilayo Dada-led committee. ii) Consequential adjustments on the minimum wage, as Ogun State has the lowest basic salary in the Southwest. iii) Immediate financial benefits for public servants who are eligible for promotion in 2023 and 2024, as promotions serve as a motivation to enhance productivity. iv) Payment of eight years of leave allowance to deserving officers. Leave allowance is not a bonus but a provision of law. Many beneficiaries are now retired, deceased, or have left public service. Distinguished Ogun State Public Servants, the fight against corruption in public service may be difficult to win if public servants have no sense of security for their future. We demand that the government demonstrate an exceptional commitment to the welfare of workers in the state. It seems that our multiple appeals have gone unheard, and ironically, the government has benefited from our understanding the most. Our patience has run out. We cannot allow our suffering to be dismissed with excuses. Let us continue to fight and strive for victory. Success in our struggle is achievable when leaders and members are sincere. We can only succeed if we speak with one voice. You have placed considerable trust in us, and we will never betray your mandate for trivial gains. We request your support and cooperation in this struggle. The strike continues! |
BREAKING: Ogun Labour Unions Declare Total Strike July 15 – Pension Arrears Hits ₦82bn! Organized Labour in Ogun State has announced a total and indefinite strike beginning on Tuesday, 15th July 2025, following the state government’s failure to address key labour demands. The decision to embark on the industrial action was taken at a meeting of labour leaders held at the Arcade, Oke-Mosan, on Monday, 14th July 2025. According to the unions, repeated letters and engagements with the government were ignored, leaving workers with no option but to down tools. Top on the list of the workers’ demands are: Payment of ₦82 billion in 16 years’ unremitted Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) deductions. Review of the current minimum wage, which workers describe as unfair compared to other states. Issuance of recently approved promotion letters and resolution of other pending labour issues. Labour leaders stated that the strike would continue until the government “shows commitment and takes concrete steps to resolve these long-standing issues.” Workers across Ogun State are expected to comply fully with the strike directive by staying away from offices and other government establishments. The State Secretary of Organized Labour, Comrade Suraju Alabi, stressed the importance of solidarity, saying: “This is the only language the government understands. We urge all comrades to stay at home until further notice". The strike is expected to ground activities in the state if the government does not act swiftly. |

ikem50:BREAKING: Federal High Court stops CBN from releasing allocation to Rivers State The Federal High Court in Abuja has stopped the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, from further releasing monthly financial allocations to the Rivers State government. The court held that the receipt and disbursement of monthly allocations since January this year by Governor Siminalayi Fubara is a constitutional somersault and aberration that must not be allowed to continue. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, who issued the order on Wednesday, held that the presentation of the 2024 budget by Fubara before a 4-member Rivers House of Assembly was an affront to the Constitutional provision. Specifically, the Judge said that Fubara action in implementing unlawful budget smacked gross violations of the 1999 Constitution he swore to protect. The judge therefore restrained the CBN, the Accountant General of the Federation, Zenith Bank and Access Bank from further allowing Fubara to access money from the Consolidated Revenue and Federation Account. |

The defamatory claims made by VeryDarkMan (VDM) against Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Femi Falana and his son, the rapper Falz, stem from allegations surrounding Bobrisky's legal troubles. VDM claimed that Femi Falana and Falz were involved in arranging a settlement for Bobrisky's case, allegedly paying N10 million to resolve legal issues related to Bobrisky's money laundering case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). These claims, made in audio recordings, suggested that Falana and Falz contacted Bobrisky before his release from prison and facilitated his pardon. In response, Falz issued VDM a 24-hour ultimatum to retract the defamatory remarks and apologize, clarifying that neither he nor his father had any involvement in the case. Falz also threatened legal action if the claims were not withdrawn. |
