firearcher:
You think an amount like 60k will not make a world of difference to some people who have no job and no alternative.
If it is easy to create businesses, jobs and pay people salary, most people will own a business
So will an amount like 5K or 10K. So let's make those the minimum wage??
Point is, there is a threshold of an amount you pay an adult to work full time. The argument sholud never be because a ridiculously low amount makes a difference to them!

This is another point to consider.
Right now I can’t afford to pay more than 60k to my staffs oh!
Then reduce staff or shut down. It is inhuman to be paying someone 60K a month with the kind of prices we have today.

Also consider this below. Minimunm wage in US is $30K a year and a Senator's pay is $174K.
While a Senator's package in Nigeria is 37.5M while minimum wage is (let's even say) 100K!!

Politics › Re: How Is Minimum Wage Calculated ? by DaddyCoool(f): 10:25pm On Jun 06, 2024
adioolayi:
Not nonsense....one thing is clear...All FGN workers will get an increase in salary once minimum wage is increased.

It's private sector that can tell certain cadre of workers that they won't be able to increase their salary and there is nothing they can do about it
FG ONLY has to increase salaries of those making less than minimum wage, so as does the private sector.
They don't have to do anything beyond that, and you can't sue them. They'll be quite within the law and their rights
Politics › Re: How Is Minimum Wage Calculated ? by DaddyCoool(f): 9:37pm On Jun 06, 2024
dreamxhaser:
Okay, so how is it calculated?
There's no calculation at all. Never mind all the nonsense you've been reading.
The law simply says you can't pay lower than a certain amount. THAT’S ALL!
Any other salary above that is by negotiation - what you're willing to accept and what the employer is willing to pay

adioolayi:
No...

There is wage structure that will be used.

The only cadre that will enjoy full 70% increase will be those at Level 1 Step 1....others, there will be increase..but not 70%....it reduces as the level and steps advances
Another nonsense

This NLC is not serious . Less than 1% earn their salaries from FG. Over 96% are not in public sector. Is NLC really working for Nigerian workers? 15 states like Abia , Anambra, Delta, Bayelsa etc are still paying #18k per month. What is the benefits of ordinary Nigerians not working for govt but earn a living daily through their nano businesses?

Dude, the same Senator made it clear it was N700k, and that is the salary. The DOLLAR amount referenced in the news report is putting it in perspective for foreign readers.

You are actually an illiterate if you think your Senators ever earned in dollars.

Nothing else mentioned is their salary, but what do I expect from a beer parlour analyst to understand the difference between a salary and funds given to run the office of a Senator.
Is this guy MAD? Whoever implied in any way that a senator earned in dollars?!! They were paid the EQUIVALENT of $2000 PLUS 13M a month, while minimum wage was 18K, the equivalent of about 30 bucks!
Politics › Re: This Is The Pay Slip Of A Personal Assistant For May 2022 Salary(photo) by DaddyCoool(f): 9:42pm On Jun 05, 2024
StOla:
You are too dumb if you think your Senator's salary is quoted in dollars.

The dollar amount there was for international readers to understand the value, and that was at the prevailing exchange rate then.

That's how your type spread misinformation on social media.
Like I said you're showing all the signs of a drunk person. A senator confirmed in 2018 that they were being paid equivalent of $2000 base salary plus 13.5M, while minimum wage was 18K. Instead of being outraged, all you're focused on are ridiculous, nonsensical semantics!
If that's not a drunk person I don't know what is!
Politics › Re: This Is The Pay Slip Of A Personal Assistant For May 2022 Salary(photo) by DaddyCoool(f): 6:09pm On Jun 05, 2024
StOla:
And I am sure you saw that the monthly salary is quoted as $2000, which was actually 700K as reported by Senator Shehu Sani.

You would do well to read the full report, which was corroborated by a Premium Time expose on the matter.

Their monthly salary was below N1m, and that was from 2015 to 2019, by the last assembly from 2019 to 2023, the monthly salary became N1.5m.

Or you want to claim the allowances used to run their office as Senators or employ assistants is part of their salary?

Or is it the constituency project funds of N200m that you want to claim is part of their salary?
You're talking like you're drunk. Are you? How much is $2000?? Or how much is that 700K in today's Naira.
Stop defending grave injustice just because of a meaningless NL argument.
See the big picture - we ought open people's eyes and rile them up enough to hit the streets. That's the big picture!

You can lie!

Chai!

Many of you are too ignorant because of the rubbish you feed yourselves on social media.

As at the last assembly from 2019 to 2023, the salary of a Senator is below N1m monthly.

I know you would want to claim all sorts, but you will never prove that the salary is up to N1m.

But I dare you to prove the rubbish before I will strip you naked and show how ignorant many of you are who just lament aimlessly out of ignorance.

I repeat, no Nigerian Senator had a monthly salary of up to N1m in the last assembly.
Is the below from BBC proof enough for ya?
And it's from 2018!!

I don’t care about the ratio.

The reason why I compared it was simply to tell people that a political appointee could earn more than the highest level civil servant by configuration.

The premise is that irrespective of the year of experience, it is not an anomaly if a political appointee earn more than the highest paid civil servant with 29 years working of experience.

Now who is less sensible between me and you? Ya’ll just jump into argument without factoring context.
That guy just let you get away with talking crap.

You don't don’t care about the ratio. What a stupid thing to say in a discussion like this.
The entire discussion is about ratios and comparisons my friend.

Minimum wage in US is $30K per year. A US senator makes $174K per year.
While in our Nigeria a senator makes 37.5M per month while minimum wage is 30K!!!!!

See all the RATIOS AND COMPARISONS below!!

Are you so mentally handicapped to see that a mere political appointee is earning $150k to $180k and beyond, while the average professor is earning $100k, even when that average salary is due to pay from schools that are not public and the professors are not civil servants?

Yet you lambast a Nigerian political appointee salary because he earns above the pay of public servants which is the very thing I have shown you happens in America when political appointee salary is compared to civil servants salary, and higher than even most professors that are tenured in universities that is not civil service job.

Keep running around in circles.
Ok, I've now seen what your problem is, so I'm no longer as angry with you. It is not that you are a total IDIOT. Nope, it's just that you simply don't know. There is no university funded by the FG in US as obtains in Nigeria. And what you term "political appointees" have salaries conmensurate with other employees of the FG of same rank.
As you have seen, a career civil servant like head of FBI makes more than a senator.
See police officer (civil servant) salaries below.
Also see below, average salaries of CIVIL SERVANTS!

Now compare that with N30K minimum wage in Nigeria vs. a Senator's package

A state public college/university or a privately funded Ivy league University?

You want to convince yourself that a professor at Havard is a civil servant?

Are you a clown or what?

You think the school teachers at BIS, Meadow Hall and Greensprings, and that fancy school that just opened in Lagos, do not earn more than your most senior civil servants and public university professors?

Why not show us the salary of a public school principal in the US, or a fire Service or Prison/Correctional Service head?

How many of the top civil servants in US still earn way less than the US private sector, while mere political appointees in the white house are earning more than these professors of yours?

Exactly same scenario on the payslip we are debating.

Senior Civil Servants in Nigeria earning N400k to N600k monthly in 2022, while a political appointee at that same 2022 was earning about N1m monthly in a country where some entry level Engineers in the private oil industry were earning N1.5m as at 2010, with some experienced Engineers already earning circa N3m as at 2011?

Daddy Cool down.

What you have shown should not be allowed in terms of how the budget of the National Assembly has continued to grow while the minimum wage has stagnated.

However, you cannot blame some of us for not seeing anything scandalous about a salary that an OND graduate will earn in Total.

Yes, compared to the civil service that salary is way higher, but political service and civil service have never had the same pay structure and will never have.

What should not be allowed is having the political class easily adjust their own pay to cater for inflation, while doing nothing significant about minimum wage.
Stop confusing yourself. There is no such thing as "political service" that is different from "civil service". They are all PUBLIC SERVANTS and their pays are commensurate.

Be careful when you say what Nigerians in Nigeria make in Naira.

Stop confusing the obviously suffering civil service to what the private corporations pay.

Even in the US, political salary compares more with the private industry pay, and not with American civil service pay, despite that both civil service and private industry both derive their pay from the same minimum wage as it is in Nigeria also.

Entry level salary at ExxonMobil for Engineers as at 2010, was about N1.5m in this same Nigeria.

That was about $10k monthly at the rate then.

The problem you have with Nigeria political office pay versus civil service pay, also exist in the US.

Your true comparison should be if such pay is outrageous for that economy.

The answer is hell No!
What is wrong with this guy?? How much is the minimum wage in that US? How much does the president make.

I still do not understand why many Nigerians lie to themselves about the actual pay of political persons being high, when many entry level roles in the private corporations in this same country pay up to that and more than that in some instances.

I can never quit my private sector job to go earn all this chicken change in the public or political service that many will still hate you because they think it is this small salary that is making them to suffer.
