Accord party governorship candidate in the Anambra State governorship election, Dr. Godwin Maduka, has called for the cancellation of the election.

Speaking at a press briefing at his country home in Umuchukwu, he said he is displeased with the massive fraud that rocked the polls across the State.

Maduka said "This is the biggest and hi tech electoral fraud ever witnessed in recent elections in Nigeria.

"Most of the devices INEC used for the governorship election in Anambra State never worked in many places especially in the rural areas, thus disenfranchising thousands of eligible voters across the State.

"This is a shame and a rape of democracy in Anambra State.

"Majority of the people who wanted to vote and particularly for my party, the Accord party, were denied the opportunity to do so because of faulty devices INEC (BVAS) used for the polls.

"It is an open secret how many people, including eminent citizens of the State who could not vote because of faulty devices INEC rolled out for the election.

"This is totally unacceptable, there is an urgent need for INEC to improve on the nation's electoral process.

"The election was poorly conducted and I am displeased with the process" he said.

Aside Maduka, the All Progressive Congress, APC, had also called for the cancellation of the election, accusing INEC of manipulating the entire process to favour Obiano's APGA and Soludo.

Dr Godwin Maduka told Ndi Anambra resident in Asaba, Delta State, during his visit to the state, that he stood out among other contestants in the race, being the only person with the capacity to turn Anambra into Dubai, infrastructure-wise, the only man who will make Anambra the medical tourist centre in Africa, the only man who will bring intellectual respect to Nigerians if elected.

He promised that, if elected, within the first 100 days of his administration, he will rebrand the present airport into international standards and fix the Onitsha–Enugu road.

I will fix Anambra in every aspect because I have done it before,” he stated.

Facebook changes name to Meta: Mark Zuckerberg announces company rebrand as it moves to the metaverse

Facebook has changed its name to Meta in a major rebrand as the social media giant faces an scrutiny over its business practices.

The company said the new name would better “encompass” what it does now, a reference to its plans to invest in virtual reality.

The firm has made clear its future goal is to create an online world, called Metaverse, where people can work, game and communicate in a virtual environment, using VR headsets.

“From now on, we’ll be metaverse first, not Facebook first,” CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Thursday. “Over time, you won’t need to use Facebook to use our other services.”

Last week, the company said it would hire 10,000 people in the European Union to build its metaverse project. It is investing $10 billion in the project.

“Today we are seen as a social media company, but in our DNA we are a company that builds technology to connect people, and the metaverse is the next frontier just like social networking was when we got started,” Mr Zuckerberg said.

“We believe the metaverse will be the successor to the mobile internet. We’ll be able to feel present – like we’re right there with people no matter how far apart we actually are. We’ll be able to express ourselves in new joyful, completely immersive ways.”

The name change comes as the company faces scrutiny after a former employee leaked damaging documents showing the company knew its brands such as Instagram had negative impact on young people but focused more on profit-making.

Facebook, as it was then known, has denied wrongdoing. On Thursday, the company said its “corporate structure is not changing.”

The rebrand is expected to position the flagship app (Facebook) as one of several products under a parent company, Meta, following in the footsteps of Google which set up a holding company, Alphabet, in 2015. Meta will also be the holding company for Instagram and WhatsApp.

The company said from December 1, its shares will trade under the stock ticker MVRS and no longer FB. Meta’s stock price rose more than 3 per cent on Thursday.

Mr Zuckerberg on Thursday provided a demonstration of the company’s ambitions for the metaverse, according to CNBC.

“The demo was a Pixar-like animation of software the company hopes to build some day,” the news organisation reported. “The demo included users hanging out in space as cartoon-like versions of themselves or fantastical characters, like a robot, that represent their virtual selves. Zuckerberg used part of it to accuse other tech firms of stifling innovation with high developer fees.”

Reacting to claims of the apps being taken down from Google play store for violating its policies which includes functionality, Osita Nwanisobi, spokesperson of the CBN told TheCable that the removal was to help the apex bank upgrade the apps functionalities.

Nwanisobi said;

“There is an upgrade going on and I guess it’s ok now.”

The mobile application for merchants which is called ‘eNaira Speed Merchant Wallet’, is still available for download. It also has bad reviews even though it has 10,000 downloads.
