The Enugu Catholic Communication Director, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Achi, has confirmed the abduction of Fr. Ndulue on Saturday morning.

He said “my brother that was the bad news we went to bed with after our meeting at the Holy Ghost Cathedral last evening.

“A colleague working in that area just informed me. That’s all. No extra information.”

HealthNigeria Ranks Number 1 In Open Defecation In The World by dailynaijamode(op): 3:04pm On Oct 31, 2019
The Federal Government says Nigeria now ranks number one in the world with people practicing open defecation.

Mr Suleiman Adamu, the Minister, Ministry of Water Resources disclosed this while declaring open a two-day Private Sector Forum on Sanitation, on Monday in Abuja.

The forum was organised by Organised Private Sector on Sanitation with the theme:”Coordinating Indigenous Private Sector Initiatives to End Open Defecation in Nigeria”.

Breaking: Nigeria ranks 131 in world bank ease of doing business – Presidency boasts(Opens in a new browser tab)

It would be recalled that on Oct 2. India exited as the world number one with the highest number of people practising open defecation in the world.

According to Adamu, Nigeria currently ranks at number one, in terms of the number of people practicing open defecation in Africa.

“Moreover, we are on the brink of being ranked first globally, as approximately 47 million people do not have access to sanitation services in its most basic form.

“Understandably, this is a serious concern to all of us as it has immense economic consequences and also hinders the social development of the country,” he said.

He said that the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) six is aimed at ensuring availability of WASH services as well as the sustainable management of water and sanitation for all by 2030.

He said that the SDGs, Target 6.2 also focused on achieving access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all and to end open defecation, paying special attention to the needs of women and girls and those in vulnerable situations.

Adamu said that although the SDGs have stipulated these targets, they have also highlighted some hurdles that would require collaborative efforts to overcome them “which is our concern for the course of this workshop”.

“Besides the exposure to diseases, there is a lack of dignity that is inherent in open defecation practices, particularly with regard to women and girls. As such, there is also a gender inequality issue which must be addressed with urgency.

“If effective solutions are not found, the non availability of sanitation facilities inadvertently further exposes women and girls to violence including rape, when they are forced to go out at night to defecate in the open.

“Again, I will emphasise that this problem has many layers in terms of the vast consequences.

“As part of the efforts to address this issue with particular reference to ending open defecation, a National Roadmap towards making Nigeria Open Defecation Free (ODF) by 2025 was developed and launched in 2016.

“However, only minimal progress has been achieved in the implementation of the Roadmap with only 14 LGAs across the country so far being certified as open defecation free, according to the National ODF Protocol.

“However, it is comforting to note the positive efforts being made by my ministry in the WASH sector toward improving the living standards of our people both in the rural and urban areas.

“Access to Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene are part of the indices for socio-economic development of any nation and thus cannot be ignored,” Adamu said.

The minister however, said that the role of the private sector in the revitalisation of the WASH sector would not be overlooked as the engine for economic growth and key players to creating innovative structures that pertains to the financing of WASH services.

He said that historically, the private sector had always been adept at coming up with new technologies and solutions relating to development.

“However, this is the first time that there is a call toward leveraging the capabilities of the private sector in a collaborative manner in light of dealing with inadequate WASH services globally.

“The SDGs have also reiterated this point that the eradication of inequality in water and sanitation cannot be achieved without greater emphasis on private sector engagement,” he said.

He said the essence of the forum was to identify areas of private sector involvement and collaboration on issues of (WASH), and ultimately come up with innovative solutions on how the pressing challenges would be effectively addressed.

“This workshop will address the challenges of financing the WASH sector through the collaboration of all stakeholders including the private sector to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) WASH targets by 2030, ” he said.

Dr Nicolas Igwe, the Managing Director, Zenith Project Ltd. said the two-day workshop was to create stronger private sector collaboration in the light of solving national WASH problems and also to meet international standard as the key.

Igwe said that there was need to reinforce commitment to re-emphasising multi-sectoral solutions in WASH as part of the private sector culture in Nigeria.

Mr Benson Attach, the National Coordinator, Society for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (NEWSAN) said it was committed to supporting the Federal Government, private sector and other partners in addressing the issues of WASH in the country.

“We want to call on all partners to ensure that we avoid those issues that will not keep us on track and let us also access the challenges and come up with strategies that will enable us achieve Open Defecation Free (ODF) by 2025,” he said.(NAN)

NYSCNational Youth Service Corps To Receive Minimum Wage by dailynaijamode(op): 12:05pm On Oct 30, 2019
The National Youth Service Corps has said corps members will enjoy the N30,000 new minimum wage once the Federal Government commences payment.

The NYSC Director-General, Brig Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim, stated this in Abuja during an interview with reporters on Tuesday after a meeting between the body and the representatives of state governments.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Sunday Dare, and the Chairman of NYSC Governing Board, Fatimah Bala, attended the meeting.

The DG said, “We are going to commence payment as directed by the Federal Government. I spoke to corps members when I visited Jigawa State about four days ago. I told them that they had also benefitted from the minimum wage. They were so excited and were praying for the Federal Government, saying it will engender them to perform more duties for the country.

“Once the government commences with the civil servants, the corps members will enjoy the same. Our minister has directed that the further details will be communicated to us by the minister of finance.”

Daren said some states and local government areas had over the years failed to discharge their statutory responsibilities to the NYSC, adding that such trend must be reversed.

He said, “For the potential of corps members to be fully harnessed for national development, an atmosphere conducive to working must be created for them. However, there is the inability of critical stakeholders, especially states and local governments to fully discharge their statutory responsibilities to the scheme.

PoliticsWe’ve Reached Agreement On Minimum Wage –keyamo, Labour by dailynaijamode(op): 9:24am On Oct 18, 2019
The Federal Government and organised labour on Thursday finally agreed on the percentage increase on the consequential adjustment in workers’ salaries as a result of the new minimum wage of N30,000.

As the meeting reached an advanced stage, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, tweeted from the venue that both parties had reached an agreement, but he did not give details.

The tweet read, “After some delicate negotiations (with both ministers as conciliators), the government and labour have finally reached an agreement on the consequential adjustment of other wages following the implementation of the enhanced minimum wage of N30,000. We are working on the communiqué.”

In a statement, the President of the Trade Union Congress, Quadri, and the Secretary General, Musa-Lawal Ozigi, confirmed the peace pact, commending the Federal Government and labour for their patience while the National Minimum Wage negotiations lasted.

The statement read, “We commend the Head of Service of the Federation, Dr Folashade Yemi-Esan, and her team for their sincerity. Though they argued that the government could not afford to meet our earlier demand of N30,000 minimum wage across board because of the economic situation in the country, we made them understand that some people could not be more Nigerian than others. If we are tightening our belts, government should also do so.”

The secretary of the JNCSNC, Alade Lawal, also confirmed the figure to our correspondent through a text message after confirmation on what was agreed with the FG was sought from him.

Lawal had earlier told our correspondent that the parties had reached an agreement on the wage crisis.

He said both parties agreed on 23.2 percentage increase for workers at grade level 07; 20 per cent for those at grade level 08; 19 per cent for workers at grade level 09; 16 per cent for those on levels 10 to 14; and 14 per cent for workers at grade levels 15 to 17.

The meeting was still going on as of the time of filing this report (12.56am) on Friday.

The agreement did not come easy as negotiations between both parties collapsed several times in the last six months.

The agreement came 182 days after President Muhammadu Buhari signed the new minimum wage into law.

After the necessary legislative processes at the National Assembly, Buhari signed the 2019 New National Minimum Wage Bill into law on April 18, 2019.

Thursday’s meeting was slated to begin at 7pm but more than one hour after the labour team, led by the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Ayuba Wabba, and the government team had taken their seat, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, and Keyamo came into the conference room.

Present at the meeting were the General Secretary of the Trade Union Congress, Musa Origi; NLC General Secretary, Emma Ugboaja; Chairman of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council, Simon Anchaver; Secretary of the council, Alade Lawal; the President, Nigeria Union of Civil Service, Amaechi Lawrence; and the union’s General Secretary, Issa Aremu.

On the government side were the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Folashade Yemi-Esan; acting Chairman of the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission, Ekpo Nta; and the Permanent Secretary in the labour ministry, William Alo.

Ngige reminded the gathering that the future of the country must be given consideration in the negotiations.

He said if the country became broke because of personnel cost, it would suffer the consequences.

The leader of the government team, Folashade Yemi-Esan, said since Wednesday’s meeting adjourned around 2am on Thursday, members of the government team had not rested because of the enormous work given to it for an agreement to be reached at the Thursday meeting.

CrimeBanker Jailed One Year For Fraud In Osogbo by dailynaijamode(op): 8:11pm On Oct 09, 2019
A Divisional High Court in Osogbo, on Tuesday jailed a 51-year-old banker, Yetunde Adewunmi, for conspiracy and fraud.

The anti-graft agency, EFCC, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, said Ms Adewunmi was sentenced to one-year imprisonment by Justice Peter Lifu on the one-count amended charge.

The name of the bank was not mentioned in the statement.

According to the EFCC, investigations revealed that the convict used her position as a staff of a new generation bank in Ile Ife, Osun State, to forge two identity cards for Abayomi Onalaja, an internet fraudster, to enable him cash two Western Union transactions received from his foreign victims.

”She was said to have benefited N236,736 (Two Hundred and Thirty-Six, Seven Hundred and Thirty-Six Naira) from the illegal dealings.

The EFCC said it had earlier filed against her a five-count charge bordering on money laundering but later amended it to one-count after agreeing to a plea bargain option with her.

The anti-graft agency said her offence is contrary to Section 27(2) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention etc) Act, 2015.

At the court hearing, she, however, pleaded guilty to the charge and was accordingly convicted.

The prosecution counsel, Shamusuddeen Bashir, had earlier asked the court to accept the conditions of the plea bargain, which included restitution of the proceeds of the crime and as well confirmed that the Commission had indeed received the sum.

Justice Lifu sentenced Ms Adewunmi to one-year imprisonment.

CrimeLeah Sharibu’s School Shut Over Fear Of Boko Haram Attack by dailynaijamode(op): 10:58pm On Oct 06, 2019
Following Saturday’s Boko Haram attack on Babangida in Tarmuwa Local Government, authorities of Government Girls Science Technical College Dapchi have closed down the school.

A source from the school informed our newsmen that the decision was taken by the leadership of PTA of the school as a measure to safe guard the students from Boko Haram terrorists.

Government Girls Science Technical College Dapchi is the girls’ secondary school where over 100 school girls were abducted on February 19 2018 along with Leah Sharibu, who is still in Boko Haram captivity after her mates were released.

The Chairman of Abducted Dapchi School Girls’ Parents Alhaji Bashir Manzo confirmed that the PTA in conjunction with the parents of the Abducted Dapchi School Girls and the management of the school took that decision to avert the looming danger of attack on the school.

Manzo disclosed that on two occasions after the resumption of this term, the JTF Commander in Dapchi instructed that the students should be evacuated from their hostels due to intelligence reports that some Boko Haram elements were sighted at Sasawa close to the town.

“It is true that the school has been closed down for now because of the recent developments that are going on around the town.

“Last Thursday, the military commander in Dapchi instructed that the girls should be moved out of the hostel.

“They were evacuated to the house of the District Head. The military told us that some Boko Haram elements were sighted at Sasawa and therefore the school girls should be kept safe.

“For the second time again, the soldiers came and instructed for the evacuation of the girls to the house of the District Head where they slept.

“Now following what happened in Babangida yesterday and the recent developments, we sat down with the PTA and decided that the children should just go home pending when adequate security measures will be taken.

“We gathered the students and addressed them and gave them transport fare to go back to their houses.

“We have written a letter which will be sent to the SSS, police, and the permanent Secretary of Ministry of education on the decision that we have taken. This is the reason why GGSTC Dapchi is closed for now,” Manzo explained.

PoliticsFG To Arraign Sowore On Monday -dailynaijamode by dailynaijamode(op): 10:39am On Sep 29, 2019
The Federal Government is set to arraign the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the February 2019 presidential election, Omoyele Sowore on Monday, September 30, 2019.

The activist, who was arrested for planning to stage a nationwide protest tagged #RevolutionNow would be arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Sowore is to be arraigned on seven counts bordering on treasonable felony, money laundering and cybercrimes. The Federal Government also accused him of granting an interview that caused an insult on President Muhammadu Buhari.

He has been in the custody of the Department of State Service since he was arrested on Saturday, August 3, 2019.

Omoyele Sowore contested as a presidential candidate on the platform of the Africa Action Congress in the 2019 presidential election. (Sahara Reporters)

Following his arrest, Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court granted the DSS the permission to detain the Publisher of Sahara Reporters for 45 days.

After the expiration of the 45 days, the judge ordered the security agency to release Sowore on the ground there was no subsisting order keeping him in detention.

Despite the court’s order, the DSS has refused to release the activist, even after depositing his passport in the court’s registry to meet his bail condition.

However, the Federal Government is reportedly planning to drag Justice Taiwo Taiwo before the National Judicial Council over his decision to grant bail to Sowore.

According to Punch, the criminal case instituted against Sowore has been assigned to another judge, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, and the judge has fixed Monday for the activist’s arraignment.

Earlier, the Nigerian Security and Intelligence community had reportedly expressed shock over Justice Taiwo’s decision to grant bail to Sowore.

The community at its meeting on Friday, September 27, 2019, resolved to appeal the judgment and decided to petition the NJC on the issue.

CrimeBusinessman Dies During Sex With Lover In Hotel by dailynaijamode(op): 4:15am On Sep 27, 2019
A businessman, Onyekachi Nwosu, has died while having sex with his lover, identified simply as Chima, in the Aguda area of Surulere, Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Nwosu and Chima visited the Alfredo Suites around 10pm for a short-time rest, but the 36-year-old man suddenly started gasping for air.

Chima, who was jolted by her lover’s condition, rushed out of the room to alert the receptionist and others at the hotel to the development.

It was learnt that the manager of the hotel, Uche Ejionye, in company with other staff members, rushed to the room only to discover that Nwosu had died.

When PUNCH Metro visited the hotel, it was gathered that the receptionist, one Marylyn, and the waitress, identified simply as Mary, who served the room 107, where the lovers lodged, were arrested alongside Chima by personnel from the Aguda Police Division, who visited the scene of the incident.

Ejionye told our correspondent that a barman, Isaac, who saw Chima screaming for help at the reception, called him to attend to her, adding that when they got to the room to find out what had happened, they met Nwosu’s lifeless body naked on the bed.

The manager stated, “I was in the bar with some guests, who came to lodge, when Isaac suddenly rushed to inform me that Chima was panting at the reception. I immediately went to enquire what was wrong and she said something had happened in the room. The security guard and I went to the room and met Nwosu’s lying naked on the bed.

“When I asked her what happened, Chima said she and Nwosu had a round of sex and afterwards, he started shivering and that was when she rushed to call us. I told her that he was dead and called the Divisional Police Officer, Aguda Division, who instructed us not to release her.

“When the police came, Chima and two of the hotel workers, Marylyn and Mary, who served the lovers, were arrested. But I accompanied them to the station, where we all wrote statements, and later, the police, our security guard and I went back to evacuate the corpse to the Mainland Hospital’s mortuary around 2am.”

A source in the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said if Chima had not been apprehended, the hotel management would have been held responsible for Nwosu’s death, adding that the deceased’s car, which was parked a distance away from the hotel, was taken to the police station.

More in Home

PUNCH Metro, learnt from another source, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, that Nwosu’s family, after being informed of the incident, refused to press charges against Chima after a doctor, who is a member of the family concluded that he died of cardiac arrest.

The source said, “One of the relatives of the deceased is a doctor and listened to Chima’s explanation that after they finished making love, he went for a shower in the bathroom and came back to lay on the bed and started gasping for air and foamy substances started coming out of his mouth before he died.

“I was told that the family said they were not pressing charges and demanded the release of his remains for burial, because the doctor said he was convinced that he died of cardiac arrest.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, who confirmed the incident, said investigation into the matter was ongoing, adding that immediately the police were alerted on September 12, personnel were mobilised to the scene and the corpse was evacuated to the mortuary.

“We have launched an investigation into the case and also moved the corpse to the mortuary. We have questioned some persons, who we believe could shed light on what really transpired before the man died. Investigation is ongoing,” Elkana stated.

PoliticsReps Step Down Motion On Border Closure Despite Masses Outcry by dailynaijamode(op): 2:27am On Sep 26, 2019
The House of Representatives on Wednesday stepped down a motion on the closure of Nigerian borders initiated by Federal Government.

The motion which was sponsored by Hon. Valentine Ayika was aimed at soliciting for the “understanding of the Executive on the closure of the Southern and Northern borders of Nigeria.”

https://dailynaijamode.com/reps-step-down-motion-on-border-closure-despite-public-outcry/

While speaking on the intent of the motion, Hon. Ayika prayed the leave of the government to assist genuine users of the closed border in the regions.

The lawmaker who acknowledged the reasons advanced by the government for the closure to check insecurity and economic sabotage through the porous borders, however, decried the shock of the closure without due notice.

He lamented that the multiplier effect of the sudden closure of the borders was “massive as it adversely affected businesses of genuine users of the borders.”

Without much ado, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Ahmed Wase who presided over the plenary session argued that the border closure was in the security and national interest of Nigeria.

He, therefore, argued that the Legislature should not be seen to be standing in the way of the Executive to do what is right.

When he put the voice vote, the majority of the lawmakers chorused ‘nay’ as the Deputy Speaker ruled that the motion should be stepped down.

PoliticsN90bn Election Fund: Your Allegations Against Osinbajo Are False, FIRS Replies T by dailynaijamode(op): 10:38am On Sep 24, 2019
The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has said that the allegations that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is in trouble over N90 billion it took from FIRS to fund the 2019 election by Timi Frank is totally false and malicious.

The Service in a statement, said “the attention of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, has been drawn to publication in some online and daily newspapers by a certain Comrade Timi Frank, the former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who claimed that the FIRS supported the APC, through the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo with a phantom N90 billion.”

The statement which was signed by the Director, Communication and Servicom Wahab Gbadamosi noted that the allegations are malicious, wicked and an attempt to smear the image of the FIRS and that of the Vice President.

ALSO READ: Lagos-Ibadan rail: Amaechi berates CCECC for slow pace of work

The statement reads: “The entire allegation being spread by one Frank Timi that the Federal Inland Revenue Service spent N90billion to fund the last election is mendacious, wicked, malicious and a calculated attempt to smear the image of the Service and that of his Excellency, the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

“This campaign of calumny and vilifying false claims are entire, libellous, unfounded in fact, irresponsible and a brazen assault on the integrity of the Service as a responsible and accountable organisation and clearly demonstrates an abysmal ignorance of the budgetary and expenditure process of the FIRS.

“That in the last four years since Mr Tunde Fowler has supervised operations at the FIRS, the agency had not received up to N90billion, per annum, as Cost of Collection from the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee, FAAC. Mr Frank and his band of liars might wish to cross-check this from FAAC, a public institution, whose records are open to the public.

“That it is from the remittances from FAAC—which had never grossed up to N100 billion, per annum, that FIRS pays the salary and emoluments and trains it’s over 8000 staff, runs over 150 offices and provides for other needs of the Service.

“That given the above, it is not plausible nor does it make any sense that FIRS will commit its resources to a phantom campaign of N90billion as suggested by Mr Timi Frank and FIRS does not fund political associations.

“That FIRS is a creation of statute and its activities are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and financials regulations and thus, it is not plausible, that its funds could be expended in such a cavalier manner as suggested by Mr Timi Frank.

“That FIRS Budget and expenditure approval processes pass through the Budget Office and the Ministry of Finance before such is presented to the National Assembly for Appropriation into Law.

Gov. Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State on Monday enrolled his six-year-old child, Abubakar Al-Siddique El-Rufai into primary one in Capital School Malali, Kaduna, a public school, in fulfilment of a promise he made in 2017.

El-Rufai in a state broadcast in December 2017, promised to enrol his child in a public school when he turns six years.

“The move is part of reforms to revamp public schools in the state to make them more competitive. We are determined to fix public education and raise their standards so that private education will become only a luxury.

“As we make progress, we will require our senior officials to enrol their children in public schools. And I will by personal example ensure that my son that will be six years of age in 2019 will be enrolled in a public school in Kaduna State, by God’s grace,” El-Rufa’i had said.

Briefing newsmen shortly after he enrolled the child, El-Rufa’i explained that it was a commitment that had been fulfilled.

“I made that commitment because I believe that it is only when all political leaders have their children in public schools that we will pay due attention to the quality of public education. I went to a public school like this. The school I went to is not as good as this one, but here I am, because of the quality teaching I got.

“I intend to ensure that all our public schools offer quality education, and so we are encouraging all our senior public servants to send their children to public schools. Once the public schools are improved to a point they are nearly as good or even better than private schools, no one will waste his money taking his child to private school,” he said.

Ummi El-Rufa’i, the mother of the child said: “l am glad that we can send a strong message to our leaders and the elites, that we need to start making things work from within our homes. By the time we start attending public hospitals and send our children to public schools, the system will get better. This is a very huge step,” she said.

On his part, the little child said: “I am sad that I will miss my old school, my friends and my teachers. But I have to help my father keep his promise”.

PoliticsGbajabiamila Came Under Fire For Threatening To Report Service Chiefs To Buhari by dailynaijamode(op): 1:25am On Sep 23, 2019
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has come under attack over his recent threat to report the service chiefs to President Muhammadu Buhari, for failing to honour an invitation to a meeting on security.

Gbajabiamila gave the warning in Abuja on Wednesday when the management of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms led by the Director-General, Mr Dasuki Arabi, visited him.

Reacting, however, the Arewa Citizens for Democracy (ACD) said the fact that Gbajabiamila could only threaten to report the service chiefs to President Buhari is an admission of his screaming incompetence.

“He is aware that he does not possess the powers he attempted to exercise over the military,” AbdulGafar Usman, President of ACD said at a press conference on Sunday in Kaduna.

Usman said instead of making trouble for the military or anyone within the security architecture, the Speaker with the other members of the House should come up with innovative ways of providing a budget that makes it possible for the military to get the equipment needed to fight terrorists.

His speech below.

We express our disappointment with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila, who threw all the honour accruable to his person and position away to cast aspersions on the office and persons of our great nation’s security chiefs.

The Speaker, under the guise of ventilating his anger over the non-appearance of the military chief before the House, threatened to report them to President Muhammadu Buhari.

He also went ahead to castigate them not minding that these are men that have given more to Nigeria in the past five years than the Speaker can give in five lifetimes even if he lives to be a thousand years in each life.

Arewa Citizens for Democracy (ACD) is of the view that rather than throwing decorum to the dogs and embark on the ranting show he put on for the entire world, the Speaker should have search deep within himself and his institution, the National Assembly, to understand why the Military chiefs did not show up even when invited.

We make this point without prejudice to the reasons that kept the security bosses away, especially when they made it their duty to delegate worthy and competent representatives to appear before the lawmakers. We shall call the attention of the Speaker to a few some realities that he may be deliberately ignoring but which right thinking Nigerians are aware of.

We all know that there is not much that happens when the House of Representatives invites public office holders and heads of agencies to appear before them. It is often nothing but an extortion racket, something they use to blackmail the invited persons to pay bribes to lawmakers from the budget of their organizations. It is on record that even when the public officers in question do appear before the House or its committees, it is often the subordinate officers with jurisdiction for the areas of interest that eventually answer all the question being posed.

The office holder is only compelled to put in appearance to make sure he is on ground to negotiate the bribes to be paid. For a country that is battling a terrorist insurgency Gbajabiamila should have known better than trying to coax money out of the military chiefs.
In addition to monetary considerations, the other thing that makes lawmakers summon office holders to appear before them in person is usually to shore up their fledging images.

With Nigeria running smoothly under the able leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, the lawmakers have been removed from the limelight, which is an opportunity the should have exploited to do their legislative duties.

PoliticsSowore's Trial Will Dent Your Image, Shehu Sani Message To Buhari by dailynaijamode(op): 1:00am On Sep 23, 2019
Former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has condemned charges of treason and felony levelled against pro-democracy campaigner, Omoyele Sowore, by the government.

In a statement on Sunday in Abuja, Sani described the trial as unnecessary and uncalled for, adding that the action would further stain and diminish the human rights record of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government.

He said, "Sowore’s charges amount to electrocution of freedom.

"The democratic credentials of any elected government is not simply about the legitimacy of its mandate but about the degree of its tolerance to dissent and compliance with the fundamental principles of freedom.

"I appeal to the government to drop the charges filed against Sowore.

"Our democracy is becoming inhabitable and inhospitable to its ideal content.

"When a state equates dissent to disloyalty, it progressively decays under the weight of its courtiers."

Sani added that if the government was confident of moral standing and support base, it should defeat Sowore with superior ideas.

PoliticsPresidential Tribunal: We Have Enough Evidence For Buhari’s Sack – Atiku by dailynaijamode(op): 1:58am On Sep 10, 2019
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the last general elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and his party have called on the tribunal to sack President Muhammadu Buhari when it finally delivers its judgement on their petition.

They called on the Tribunal to determine the petition on its merit rather than technicalities and ensure substantial justice.

The PDP and Atiku insisted that Buhari was not qualified to have contested the election and as such should be disqualified.

Mike Ozekhome, SAN, one of the senior lawyers in Atiku’s legal team, said it was the expectation of his client “that the judiciary, as the last hope of the common man, will be dauntless in addressing the substance of the petition by the peoples’ candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in the collective quest to retrieve a stolen mandate through the legal process,” according to Sun.

“We have made a solid case before the panel. Our client, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has also presented his case supported by credible evidence.

“We had presented incontrovertible evidence to show that our presidential mandate was stolen. Every Nigerian now looks on to the judicial officers for justice.

“Nigerians are waiting and hoping that the judiciary will have the courage to do justice in the presidential election petition.”
