Nigerian comedian cum actor, Afamefuna Klint Igwemba popularly known as Klint da Drunk has luckily escaped a near-fatal car accident in Nigeria.
According to reports, the accident occurred along Bauchi – Jos expressway yesterday, Thursday, August 15.

Klint da Drunk survived with only minor injuries after the unfortunate car crash.

The famous Nigerian stand-up comedian took to Instagram to share his survival story.

He wrote;

“Please, help me in praising God Almighty for delivering us from the Jaws of death. Along Bauchi-Jos express road, we were involved in a terrible car crash. We boarded a golf 2 on charter as it was the only means to move.

The road was wet as it had been drizzling.
The driver tried all he could to stop the car but the slippery road just made it look like he did nothing all I was shouting was “JESUS! JESUS!! JESUS!!!” and with a speed of about 100km/H or thereabout, we rammed right into the back of this truck.

God being so merciful and wonderful, we got off with very minor injuries. how the tail of the truck was stopped from causing major damage on us is just God’s doing.
God I thank you for life, I thank You for Your Mercies, I thank You for Your Grace and for your love on sinners like us.

May your name be glorified forever in Jesus Mighty Name!!! Amen!!!”

PoliticsBuhari To Nigerians: I’ll Fight For The Poor, Underprivileged by dailynaijamode(op): 10:10pm On Aug 13, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari says he will use his second term in office to improve the lives of Nigerians by paying closer attention to the poor and the underprivileged in the society.

A statement by Malam Garba Shehu, the President’s spokesman, in Abuja on Tuesday said Buhari made his feelings known when he addressed leaders of various communities from five Local Government Areas of Daura Emirate.

The affected leaders were at the private residence of the president in Daura, Katsina state, as part of Eid El-Kabir celebration.

The President said he was convinced that majority of Nigerians understand who he was and his mission, on account of which they returned him for a second term in office with larger margin of votes than in 2015.

“You know how much I laboured to get here. I ran three times in the past. The fourth time, God used technology to do it for me.

”The fifth time I ran (Feb. 23, 2019), I went to all the states of the federation. The turnout of crowds was overwhelming.

“Truly, the people know and understand my mission. This is what the votes showed.

“The administration will dwell on our campaign issues — security, economy and corruption. We will fight for the poor,” he said.

He emphasised the important place of agriculture under his administration, promising to appoint a minister ”who is knowledgeable and will know how to promote interest and investment in the sector.”

The president said: “I will appoint a minister who knows agriculture and its role in providing jobs and growing our economy. You have seen how we broke the fertiliser jinx in the country.

”We will do more to better the lots of our farmers. Agriculture is our strength.”

President Buhari expressed delight with the changing attitude of young people to agriculture, with many earning respectable incomes, urging all of those without regular incomes to return to the farm.

In his remarks, Malam Yusuf Mai’ Aduwa, one the leaders of the delegation, thanked Nigerians for giving the President a second mandate to lead the country, stressing that he would not let the country down.

Mohammed Saleh, another community leader, said the communities under the Daura Emirate were grateful to the President for signing a bill to establish a Federal Polytechnic in Daura.

He noted that this came after they had complained that the area needed a tertiary institution to encourage the youth to pursue higher education.

In her remarks, Hajiya Talatu Nasir, a Permanent Secretary with the Katsina State Ministry of Information, said President Buhari’s government had empowered many women, with many already owning businesses like poultry and livestock farms.

While offering special prayers for the President, the Daura community urged him to pursue the vision for a better Nigeria with the fear of God, courage to stand by the truth always, and mindful of the needs of the poor and underprivileged.

TravelCanada Invites 49,000 Candidates In 7-months As Scores Drop Again by dailynaijamode(op): 9:51am On Jul 29, 2019
The latest draw by the Canadian Government has taken the total number of candidates invited to apply for the Canadian Permanent Residency to 49,000 in the first half of 2019.

According to the Canadian Immigration Newsletter obtained by Nairametrics, the Canadian Government invited 3,600 Express Entry candidates to apply for Canadian Permanent Residency in a draw which held on Wednesday, July 24. It was further revealed that the Comprehensive Ranking Score (CRS) cut-off of 459 in the latest draw was a point lower than the score (460) used in the previous draw that was held on June 26th.

The cut-off drops again: In the latest draw, the CRS score witnessed another downward trend as recorded in each of the last three draws.

Essentially, the drop in CRS score is attributed to the regular bi-weekly interval between draws maintained by the IRCC since the end of May.
Although the shorter interval between draws denotes fewer candidates had time to enter a profile in the Express Entry Pool.

Record high ITAs issued: With the country’s expanded admissions targets for the three Express Entry-managed programmes and its Provincial Nominee Programme, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has so far, issued a total 49,000 ITAs in 2019. This suggests that the IRCC is likely to surpass its ITA record of 89,800 issued in 2018.

Meanwhile, the past two weeks have seen Express Entry-linked provincial nominee streams in Ontario, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island, and British Columbia invite candidates for applications for the provincial nomination.
Basically, the Express Entry pool consists of candidates for Canada’s three federal high skilled immigration programmes, which are: Federal skilled workers class, Federal skilled trade class, and Canadian experienced class.
The province with the biggest draw: Ontario’s first Tech-draw was the largest of 2019 draws through its Human Capital Priorities stream, issuing 1,623 invitations to Express Entry candidates with CRS scores between 439 and 459, and work experience in 6 tech-related occupations, amongst other prerequisites. It should be noted, however, that:

Ontario has the largest allocations with 6,900 nominations of the nine provinces and two territories participating in the PNP for 2019.
Ontario was the destination of 64% newcomers to Canada annually for new permanent residents admitted through the Express Entry system in 2018.
A big first half of 2019: Canada’s Provincial Nominee Programme was expected to hit the ground running in 2019 and it did not disappoint according to report.

Canada’s Provincial Nominee Programme (PNP) allows the participation of Canadian provinces and territories to nominate foreign workers and international graduates for the Canadian permanent residence through a network of streams tailored to their several labour market needs.

The PNP streams were in alignment with the Federal Express Entry system and were tremendously active in the first 6 months of 2019, inviting thousands of applications for a provincial nomination to immigration candidates with a profile in the Federal Government’s Express Entry pool.
About Express Entry: Express Entry is a selection system for Canadian immigration, designed to select skilled workers for immigration to Canada. It is completely an electronic process involving the country’s Federal Government, Provincial Governments, and Canadian employers.

Eligible candidates for these categories are entered into the Express Entry pool and assigned a ranking score based on factors such as age, education, work experience, and proficiency in English or French.

The highest-ranked candidates are invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence through regular draws from the pool.

TravelNo Going Back On Lagos-ibadan Road Four-month Closure –FG by dailynaijamode(op): 9:29am On Jul 29, 2019
@dailynaijamode
https://dailynaijamode.com/no-going-back-on-lagos-ibadan-road-four-month-closure-fg/
Despite concerns raised by motorists and other road users, the Federal Government has said there is no going back on the four-month planned partial closure of sections of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway for reconstruction.

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Mr Adedamola Kuti, said on Sunday the planned partial closure starting from August 3 would not be postponed even with the next month’s Sallah holiday trips and other religious activities that would increase traffic on the road.

According to him, the aim is to complete that portion of the road before Christmas when the traffic is expected to be heavier.

“What we are doing is to finish the project before Christmas when more people will be travelling. We are not closing the road totally; we are providing routes where people will follow and once everyone is patient, everything will go well,” he said.

The Federal Road Safety Corps had last week notified the public that Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, the construction company handling rehabilitation work on Section 1 of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, had given notification of its plan to commence intensive work on the Berger-Kara end of the road on August 3, and would close some sections for four months.

In a telephone interview with one of our correspondents on Sunday, the Ogun Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Clement Oladele, said the partial closure of the 1.4 kilometres portion of the road had been postponed before and any further delay would affect its delivery date.

“The project is expected to be delivered by 2021 and any further postponement will affect the date,” he said.

He urged motorists to use alternative routes such as the Lagos-Ota-Itori-Abeokuta and Ikorodu-Sagamu roads during the period.

According to Oladele, palliative work is also ongoing under Ogun River Bridge at the popular Kara Cattle Market to help improve traffic flow.

He stated that the FRSC had made plans to deploy more personnel to the area for 24-hour patrol, while the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and other security agencies would be available to help with traffic control.

“Our plan is to make sure we reduce the discomfort that motorists are expected to face. It is a huge challenge to them and to us as enforcement agents as well but we are setting up camp in the area. We are bringing in personnel from other parts of Ogun State and some from Lagos State to help with traffic control,” he said.

Oladele, however, stated that indiscipline might compound the challenges on the road and cautioned motorists to obey traffic rules by reducing their speed to 50 km/hour and avoid driving against traffic.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Wale Musa, said officials of the agency would ensure effective traffic control as well as assist in the evacuation of faulty vehicles.

“Fifty per cent of vehicles that break down along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway are evacuated by our officials; so, traffic control won’t be a problem. Although a good portion of the road is in Ogun State and so by law, it is not under our jurisdiction; the part under Lagos will be handled effectively,” he added.

The President, Association of Maritime Truck Owners, Chief Remi Ogungbemi, said the closure would have adverse effects on commuters and cargoes coming in and out of Lagos, and advised that adequate plans for alternative roads should be made.

He said for ease of traffic, the Ikorodu-Sagamu road, a suggested alternative route, should be put in good condition and dedicated to heavy-duty trucks.

The Director General, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Muda Yusuf, while welcoming the rehabilitation of the road, said the government needed to start thinking of constructing a new bypass because of the level of development going on around the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

He said, “All over the world, as cities grow, the road network is increased. The capacity of Nigerian roads has been overstretched and there is a need to increase the number of roads and build byways.

“Even if they complete the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, there will still be the need for a bypass because of the level of development along that axis. People waste a lot of time there as a result.”

A former Chairman, Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners, Mr Bola Ogunyele, transport operators appreciated the efforts of the government to provide good road but decried “the avoidable inconveniences and anguish drivers, passengers and road users are subjected to during road repairs and reconstruction.”

He said using the alternative Ikorodu-Sagamu and Epe/Ajah-Ijebu-Ode roads would come with additional cost such as increase in the amount of fuel by vehicles and other operation costs as well as travel time.
CelebritiesMeeting With Davido Has Improved My Brand –broda Shaggi by dailynaijamode(op): 1:39am On Jul 28, 2019
Known by many of his fans as ‘fine boy agbero ’, Samuel Perry, popularly known as Broda Shaggi, is indeed enjoying some of the best times of his life at the moment.

A relatively unknown star a little over a year ago, the University of Lagos graduate has moved from that stage to become one of the most popular young comedians on the social media space in recent times.

Shaggi, who plays the character of a lout (agbero in local parlance) in most of his skits on the Internet, told Saturday Beats that beyond his creativity and hard work, his friendship and association with hip hop artiste, Davido, was among the things most responsible for his wide acceptance today.

According to the young entertainer, managing fame and keeping up with people’s expectations have not been easy for him even though he is doing well in his craft.

He said, “Without a doubt, my association and friendship with Davido has significantly improved my brand.

“Davido is a great guy who is willing to support anyone that comes his way. Knowing and moving around with him has been a blessing for my brand.”

Speaking on how the situation had been with ladies throwing themselves at him, Shaggi, who hails from Ogun State, disclosed that he had learnt to remain focused despite the attention he got from fans.

He added, “It is not unusual for ladies to appreciate you in different ways if you are good at your craft and are famous.

“But as a person, I do my best to focus on my craft and find new ways I can improve.

“Trying to stay up there and make a bigger name has not been easy and it is only through focus that one can achieve that.

“My style of comedy is different and that is why I rely on God for inspiration in coming up with my skits.

“I am a strong believer in God. Anything I do, I put Him first and that is why I rely on Him for inspiration.”

CrimeR. Kelly Rep Resigns After Saying He Would 'absolutely Not' Trust Singer With Da by dailynaijamode(op): 5:16pm On Jul 23, 2019
Darrell Johnson, a member of jailed R. Kelly's inner circle, stepped down as the singer's crisis manager Monday after walking back a potentially damaging comment he made on CBS about not leaving his daughter alone with someone accused of pedophilia.

"I should have worded it better," Johnson told USA TODAY, adding that he meant to say, "I would leave my daughter with Kelly because I do not believe he is a pedophile."

A short while later Johnson confirmed he no longer worked for Kelly as a crisis manager or spokesperson. "This has nothing to do with Mr. Kelly it's for my (own) person(al) reasons," he said in a statement to USA TODAY.

Johnson sat down with Gayle King on Monday's "CBS This Morning," saying that Kelly is not doing well in custody.

"I am concerned about Mr. Kelly," he told King in the interview, saying that he would "assume at this point" that Kelly is under suicide watch. He said Kelly can't busy himself with books in his cell because he can't read or write.

Kelly has been held without bond at the federal Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago, after being arrested July 11 on separate indictments by the Northern District of Illinois and the Eastern District of New York, which is based in Brooklyn.

Johnson's role on Kelly's defense team had been unclear for months. When he first appeared on the scene in Chicago after Kelly's first arrest on state sex-crime charges, the media referred to him as a "publicist" or a Kelly "spokesman."

He has been a contentious figure: He got into an argument with the father of one of the R&B singer's girlfriends during a press conference earlier this month in Atlanta.

Several of Kelly's attorneys have previously told USA TODAY that Johnson is neither a lawyer nor a member of Kelly's defense operation, with Steve Greenberg, who heads Kelly's legal team in Chicago, saying that Johnson "has been acting as a PR person."

Celebrities20 Memorable Quotes From Late Activist And Former South African President, Nelso by dailynaijamode(op): 5:49pm On Jul 18, 2019
Nelson Mandela was born to the Thembu royal family in Mvezo, British South Africa, on July 18, 1918.
He was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment in 1963 for conspiring to overthrow the state, and served 27 years in prison.
In 1990, Nelson Mandela was finally released by the then President amid growing domestic and international pressure.
Mandela passed away in 2013, aged 95 but his fight for freedom and human rights continue to be a guiding light to the world.
Today, which should have been his 101 birthday celebration, we remember 20 memorable quotes of his that will never fail to motivate:
1). “I can rest only for a moment, for with freedom come responsibilities, and I dare not linger, for my long walk is not yet ended.”
2). “For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.”
3). “If you want to make peace with your enemy, you have to work with your enemy. Then he becomes your partner.”
4). “When a man is denied the right to live the life he believes in, he has no choice but to become an outlaw.”
5). “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
6). “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”
7). “I am fundamentally an optimist. Whether that comes from nature or nurture, I cannot say. Part of being optimistic is keeping one’s head pointed toward the sun, one’s feet moving forward. There were many dark moments when my faith in humanity was sorely tested, but I would not and could not give myself up to despair. That way lays defeat and death.”
Cool. “A good head and good heart are always a formidable combination. But when you add to that a literate tongue or pen, then you have something very special.”
9). “It always seems impossible until it’s done.”
10). “Resentment is like drinking poison and then hoping it will kill your enemies.”
11). “I am not a saint, unless you think of a saint as a sinner who keeps on trying.”
12). “There is no passion to be found playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”
13). “No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
14). “If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language that goes to his heart.”
15). “Do not judge me by my successes, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.”
16). “As I have said, the first thing is to be honest with yourself. You can never have an impact on society if you have not changed yourself… Great peacemakers are all people of integrity, of honesty, but humility.”
17). “As I walked out the door toward the gate that would lead to my freedom, I knew if I didn’t leave my bitterness and hatred behind, I’d still be in prison.”
18). “It is said that no one truly knows a nation until one has been inside its jails. A nation should not be judged by how it treats its highest citizens, but its lowest ones.”
19). “A leader. . .is like a shepherd. He stays behind the flock, letting the most nimble go out ahead, whereupon the others follow, not realizing that all along they are being directed from behind.”
20). “We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, handsome, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?”

PoliticsReturn To North Now, Northern Elders, Youths Order Fulani Herdsmen by dailynaijamode(op): 7:40am On Jul 17, 2019
Members of the Northern Elders Forum and the Coalition of the Northern Groups have asked Fulani herdsmen to leave the southern part of Nigeria.

They said the herdsmen should return to the North where their (herdsmen) safety and that of their property could be guaranteed.

The northern elders and the youths said they were worried that some southern leaders had allegedly openly threatened war against the Fulani herdsmen.

They claimed that for this reason, all the herdsmen from the North living in the South should return home.

Recall that the controversial Ruga policy suspended by the Federal Government generated various reactions with southern leaders rejecting it.

The southern leaders had argued that it was wrong for the Federal Government to take people’s land by force and give it to herdsmen who were operating personal businesses.

The rejection was further fuelled by kidnappings and killings of innocent men and women by the suspected herdsmen.

Also, the Coalition of the Northern Groups had given the Federal Government a 30-day ultimatum to resolve the objection raised by the southern leaders.

However, at a press conference after a meeting of the NEF with the CNGs on Tuesday in Abuja, where the youths demanded the return of all the Fulani herders to the North, the NEF’s chairman, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, also backed the youth’s position.

However, Abdullahi said the call on the herders to retrun to the North was borne out of the alleged realisation that their lives had allegedly been put at risk due to the recent actions and utterances of the southern governors.

Abdullahi said, “We are worried about their well-being. If it is true that their safety can no longer be guaranteed, we rather have them back in areas where their safety is guaranteed.

“The bottom line is that their safety is far more important than their stay there. This is a country we all wish to keep together but not at the expense of other sections.”

Abdullahi, who is a former vice-chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, also called for the establishment of a judicial enquiry that would be saddled with the responsibility of determining the quantum of loss of properties by herdsmen and farmers.

This, he said, should be done with a view to paying compensation due to each of the warring parties.

Also speaking at the event, the CNG’s spokesperson, Abdul-Aziz Sulaiman, who presented the position of the northern youths to the elders, alleged that the southern governors had on July 9, 2019, jointly agreed to stop the movement of herders and cattle in the South.

He also said the governors even arrogated to themselves powers to decide which category of herdsmen could be allowed to live in the South and others whom he said they allegedly tagged as criminals.

Sulaiman also regretted that herdsmen were being blamed for the killing of Mrs Funke Olakunri, daughter of the Afenifere leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti.

He said this was wrong as the culprits had yet to be identified.

He noted, “Throwing caution to the winds, Gani Adams, Fani-Kayode, Yinka Odumakin and a host of other southern regionalists shamelessly insisted on changing the narratives around the killing of the Fasoranti lady.

“In the process, they threatened all forms of violations and breaches against northerners including the threat of an all-out war.

“With all these statements and steps taken by the southern governors and opinion leaders, we are worried that none of the northern governors or federal official has deemed it apt to caution them.

“The failure or neglect of the police to trace a connection between the Fasoranti daughter’s murder and the seeming prearranged conduct of Fani-Kayode, Odumakin and Adams by their haste to shift the blame in order to render the Fulani object of attack is certainly suspicious.

“We are concerned about the sincerity of the Federal Government in implementing the NLTP going by the manner previous efforts at executing developmental projects like the Mambila hydro-electric power project and several initiatives on the herdsmen dilemma were invariably stalled.

“We are equally worried that the NLTP is vested in the office of the vice-president that is believed to have frustrated previous projects meant for the North.

“We find it difficult to trust the commitments of this government ,which has for the past four years, failed to execute any positive initiative towards resolving the herders’ problems nor shown any encouraging concern for the dilemma of the Fulani who have been attacked in various states.

“Based on the above observations sir, and the fact that the instigation of hatred against the Fulani persists, we feel obliged to advise the leadership of the Northern Elders Forum to consider calling on the Fulani to forgo their right to live and flourish anywhere in the South and relocate to their various states in the North to ensure their safety.”

We’re not aware of return to North order – MACBAN

But when contacted to know whether the herders would heed the advice, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria told one of our correspondents that it was unaware of the recall of herdsmen to the North and refused to speak further on it.

The National Secretary of MACBAN, Baba Usman, said, “I am not aware of this development. I didn’t know anything about it. I am just hearing it from you now. So, I have no comment on it. I don’t know anything about it.”

When contacted on whether or not herdsmen in the South should heed the call by the leadership of NEF, to return home, the Arewa Consultative Forum’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Muhammad Ibrahim-Biu, declined comment on the matter.

No Fulani herdsmen in Benue – Gololo

However, the Leader of Fulani herdsmen in Benue State, Garus Gololo, has said there is no need to ask if the Fulani herdsmen will leave Benue or not, “because we have left the state long time ago.”

Gololo, who spoke to one of our correspondents on the telephone, said that all Fulani herdsmen had left Benue State since the enactment of the anti-open grazing law.

“Why are you asking me that question as if you are not in Benue, (Governor Samuel) Ortom has driven away Fulani herdsmen from Benue. As I am talking to you now, I have since left the state when there was a threat to my life. Fulani herdsmen started leaving Benue State shortly after the enactment of the anti-open grazing law.

“Those who tried to stay behind have to leave when the livestock guards (group enforcing the anti- open grazing law) were impounding their cows and spending millions to retrieve the cows. So no herdsmen is in Benue State now, we have all left,” Gololo said.

PoliticsWe Will No Longer Condone Xenophobic Attacks On Nigerians, Says Lawan by dailynaijamode(op): 7:49am On Jul 16, 2019
President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has condemned the continuous killings of Nigerians in South Africa, warning that the government will no longer tolerate further attacks on its citizens.
He expressed concern that no fewer than 118 Nigerians have so far been killed in xenophobic attacks over the years, of which the South African Police perpetrated 13.

Lawan made the assertions when he hosted the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Bobby Moroe yesterday in Abuja.

Moroe and his delegation visited the Senate leadership on his government’s investigations to unravel the causes of xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and steps being taken to stop it.

The Senate President disclosed that the meeting became pertinent considering the incessant attacks on Nigerians residing in South Africa, adding: “We in the Parliament must speak up to prevent any further killings.

“The killings must stop. This is the era of social media where the corpse of a victim may spark violence that may go beyond the government’s control.”

Lawan restated that the South African government should do whatever it takes to protect the lives and property of Nigerians living in that country, just as the Nigerian government would remain committed to the safety of South Africans residing in Nigeria and their investments.

“I believe we have faced enough, we will no longer take it anymore. We want to write the names of Nigerians killed, and the South African parliament must act fast to put a stop to this menace.

“Over the years, 118 Nigerians have been killed, while 13 of them were killed by South African Police”.

He recalled Nigeria’s enormous contributions to South Africa during the Apartheid rule, adding: “We must establish events that led to the killings, including Mrs. Elizabeth Chukwu, who was killed recently in her hotel room.”

Nigeria, he insisted, would no longer condone such killings, urging the South African government to, as a matter of responsibility, protect Nigerians residing there.

Responding, Moroe who lamented the killings of Nigerians, extended his country’s condolences to families of the victims, saying an inquest had been instituted to investigate all cases of xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa.

The inquest, he said, would reveal the cause of the menace and find solutions across the board, saying the commitment of the South African government and its law enforcement agencies were committed to unraveling the root of the matter and prosecute perpetrators of the attacks.

Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced plans to embark on massive picketing and protest against all South African businesses in Nigeria.

It has also asked all South African business interests in Nigeria to relocate their businesses to their country.

NANS President Comrade Danielson Akpan, who disclosed this yesterday in Abuja after its emergency executive meeting, said the only way to stop further killings of Nigerians in that country was to picket its business entities in Nigeria.

PoliticsBuhari Grants Passport Printing Monopoly To MINT by dailynaijamode(op): 4:51pm On Jul 11, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari has granted the Nigerian Security Printing & Minting Company (NSPMC) the monopoly for the production and personalization of all Nigerian E-passports and related documentation.

Buhari gave the directive today.

Popularly known as The Mint, the company was established in 1963 with the objective of producing the nation’s currency notes and coins for the Central Bank of Nigeria as well as security documents for Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government, banks and other blue chip companies.

With the new directive from the President, all existing memoranda of understanding and contracts on printing by other institutions/ companies will not be renewed.

The Mint is the largest banknote and security documents specialist printing company in West Africa. However, its performance was rapidly dwindling in terms of both currency production and security documents prior to 2014.

Under the chairmanship of the Central Bank Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, new targets were set, and Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of The Mint, Mr Abbas Umar Masanawa recounts some of the achievements to include: zero importation of currency from 2014 to date, with attendant benefits of conservation of foreign reserve, revenue and employment generation, as well as safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty.

Mr Masanawa counts the blessings further: “The Mint has returned to profitability. From a moribund organisation with heavy losses, the company grew from a loss position of N14. 6 million in 2014 to a profit of N14. 3 billion in 2018. Turnover also grew from N17.8 billion in 2014 to N61. 4 billion in 2018.

“Other achievements include enhanced production capacity, revenue diversification, reduced cost of production, institutionalisation of corporate governance, improved staff welfare and industrial harmony, among others.”

The Managing Direction pledged that The Mint would justify the renewed confidence reposed in it by the President, “as we are moving to the Next Level, and poised to boost national security and integrity, we will conserve scarce foreign exchange, improve revenue generation, create job opportunities, and boost acquisition/transfer of technology.”

PoliticsOshiomhole Is Planning To Kill Me – Rochas Okorocha by dailynaijamode(op): 7:29am On Jul 08, 2019
Former Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has raised the alarm about alleged plot by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole to kill him, according to Punchng.com.

The paper said Okorocha shared a text message purportedly sent to him by an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, with its correspondent where he was intimated about the alleged plot.

The message read: “Your Excellency, I will like to give you this information. You must be careful. There is a plan to either eliminate you or sink you politically. They said you want to contest for the deputy senate presidency, a position that will give you an edge to contest as President in 2023, so everything must be done to get you out of the way.

“The arrowhead of this plot is Adams Oshiomhole. He has vowed that he will block you from realising your ambition and the first step towards achieving this was to make sure your preferred successor did not emerge. He has been having secret meetings with our Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, over your matter.

“One of my colleagues, Abdullahi, has been given the task to liaise with INEC and meet with one Aminu in the legal department of INEC and two powerful women in the department as well as some national commissioners over your matter.”

Recall that the two former governors are engulfed in bitter feud precipitated by the rancorous dispute that characterised APC primary in Imo State.

CrimeNigeria Records 46 Suicide Cases In Half Year 2019 by dailynaijamode(op): 6:35am On Jul 07, 2019
A professor of neuropsychiatry, Richard Uwakwe, says suicide cases across the country can be stemmed if early signs of mental disorders are noticed and addressed.

Speaking at the 2nd Public Lecture organized by Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) College of Medicine titled, ‘Alarming Rate of Suicide: The underlying factors and issues’, the guest lecturer noted that though suicide is a complex issue that cannot be traced to a particular factor, 90% of suicide cases have been traced to mental disorders.

He noted that complex factors that predispose one to suicide thoughts and actions include environmental, physiological, social, cultural, genetic and legal factors. Uwakwe said suicide incidences could be avoided if the inequality in the society is addressed among other things.
