26-year-old accountant, Adewura left her office on May 15 and called her family when she was close to Gowon Estate where they live to inform them that she was almost home. But she never made it home. A missing person tweet was shared by her family and a search began.


Readers later hinted that a bike man carrying a woman suffered a mishap close to an open manhole and the women fell into the canal through the open drain, while the bike man was arrested for not heeding warnings to avoid that route.

Days later, the family of Lateefa revealed she was the one who fell into the canal and she didn't survive it as her body had been in there for days before a search was conducted.
_ According to one of the men who made up the search team, Lateefa's body was found lying face down at the Abule Odu end of the canal. She was recognized with her shirt and birthmark as her face had been badly damaged.


The search team drew up a map of Gowon Estate to determine where the open drain leads to. They went through every tunnel till they got to the end which is a "canal that is channelled to Abule-Odu/Iyana-Iba, Badagry." _
The source blamed Adewura's death on "pure negligence on the government's part" and said the deceased might have had a chance if a search was carried out immediately it was reported that a woman had fallen into the open drain.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama disclosed this on Tuesday during an interactive session with the Diplomatic Correspondents on his stewardship.
Onyeama noted that migrant decisions taken by some countries were as a result of negative perceptions about few Nigerians who do not obey the laws of other countries. “And a lot of it is that they released statistics to show that 10 per cent of people who overstayed their visas globally are Nigerians. .

Those who do not obey the rule of other countries’ have more negative impact on those who obeyed. “The issue of those who overstayed their visa is a real issue. We have engaged with the US government over it. We are just trying to work through them and they are looking at various alternatives and solutions and to make less difficult for genuine visitors and the like. .
.

Things like you have to have guarantor or surety and the like all those things are what they are trying to apply to really address this prickly issue,” he said. .

“We are doing what we can they (U.S. Embassy) told me that notwithstanding the suspension of dropbox mechanism that there would be an expedited interview for certain people. “And that there would be that flexibility to request for interview that might make it easier for those seeking visa,” he said.

The monarch father pleaded with FG to consider given security vote allowance to them and see kidnapping and other crime on reduce.

Oluwo of Iwoland in Osun State, Oba Adbulrasheed Akanbi, has called on the Federal Government to make provision for security votes for the traditional institution to help fight insecurity in the country.

Akanbi, who spoke to journalists in Osogbo yesterday, said the traditional rulers were closer to the grassroots and were privy to the intelligence needed to curb crimes in communities.

He said: “Traditional rulers should be empowered to domesticate security at the grassroots which constitutes higher percent of the hideouts for kidnappers. Co-opting monarchs will unavoidably decimate security threat.

“Traditional institution should be given security vote to engage local hunters, vigilante, the Agbekoyas, trusted local Odua Peoples Congress (OPC), among others.

“In my own capacity, I am trying my utmost best in my domain but the institution I represent deserves security funding to act more.

“I have personally arrested a criminal in my domain and handed him over to the police. I know the nooks and crannies of my city. No criminal can survive with illegality here. I have instilled the fear in them and this has decimated atrocities in Iwo. I am ready to do more if empowered by engaging trusted local security details.

“The police saddled with this primary responsibility is underfunded and under staffed. Nigeria of over 200 million population is parading about 300,000 policemen. The police should be equipped with modern tools and should be paid good salaries and as well be assured of job security to motivate them for maximal performance.

“Government should provide surveillance helicopters to aid technical detective assignments by the police, most especially when searching kidnappers’ hideouts.”

The African Action Congress (AAC) has suspended Omoyele Sowore, its presidential candidate in the 2019 General Election.

Punch reports that Mazi Okwy, a member of the AAC National Executive Committee read the party’s resolution to journalists in Abuja on Monday.Sowore and eight others, including its Deputy National Chairman (South West), Ogunlana Rotimi Jacob, were suspended for six months over alleged anti-party activities.The party then appointed Dr. Leonard Ezenwa, the acting National Chairman, while Abayomi Francis Olufemi has been named Deputy National Chairman.

The allegation against Sowore bordered “particularly on inflow of illegal foreign funds into the party and personally retaining same in contravention of Section 225 (3)(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), together with eight others.” When contacted, the Head of Media and Public Relations, Sowore Campaign Organisation, Rachel Onamusi-Kpiasi said: “Leonard (Ezenwa) has been suspended from the party for anti-party activities for months and is in no position to suspend the national chairman;” adding, “I will send a fully formed press release shortly.”
