DMW boss, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has declared that his record label is the best in Africa. The singer, took to his Snap chat on Friday morning to express his feeling about how his record label has done well for itself in the last four years. According to him, no other record label in Africa has done what his label has done for its artistes. Davido, who is currently working on his next studio album, which is set to drop anytime from now, also described the album as what his fans had never experienced before. With stars like Dremo, Mayorkun, Peruzzi, among others, on the label, which Davido floated some years back, the award-winning singer said no other record label could boast of what his label had recorded in terms of success with music. The statement from the singer drew the ire of some public commentators and music lovers including his fans, who cautioned him against making a sweeping statement. While some believe that Davido made the statement to create a buzz around his new album, others simply knocked him, adding that there were some artistes in Africa who are bigger than his label. A popular social media commentator, The Flex, said Davido should stop talking as though he’s the only artiste in Africa who could boast of top acts on his record label, adding that Olamide’s YBNL, Don Jazzy’s Mavin and other top labels across Africa make good songs and their acts don’t come out to make boastful statement. https://dailynaijamode.com/i-have-the-biggest-record-label-in-africa-davido-boost/

The new caretaker Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Lagos State, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has described the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, as his “father, leader and mentor”. Oluomo said this in a message he posted on his official Instagram handle on Thursday. He thanked Tinubu for supporting him to emerge as leader of the NURTW in the state. He also praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for supporting his candidature. Oluomo wrote, “I cannot but also thank my father, my leader, my mentor His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his love and support towards my emergence as the NURTW chairman. He is truly a father and a father indeed.” He also praised Oba Saheed Elegushi and other traditional rulers as well as APC leaders in the state for supporting him. The NURTW chief called for support from other members of the caretaker committee. The union in Lagos State has become notorious for extortion of money from commercial drivers and shop owners and have become untouchable due to the cover they allegedly receive from politicians and security officials. The union has also been known to perpetrate acts of violence, leading to the death of many in recent years. Oluomo was stabbed several times at an APC rally in January during a fracas with another faction of the union. His close associate, Olayinka Mamowora, aka Mamok, was stabbed to death in 2015 while another prominent NURTW member in his Oshodi/Isolo community, Rasaq Bello, popularly known as Hamburger, was shot dead in Shogunle during the APC council primaries in 2017. https://dailynaijamode.com/mc-oluomo-hails-tinubu-sanwo-olu-over-nurtw-job/

The Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture, Olusegun Runsewe, on Friday described controversial cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, as “an embarrassment to this country”. Two weeks ago, Runsewe condemned Bobrisky, saying if nothing was done to stop the celebrity immediately, it might be too late. But Bobrisky took his Instagram account five days later to dare Runsewe. The cross-dresser said, “I heard someone in government talk about me a few days ago. Please, tell him I’m waiting for him. It’s then he will know that I roll with his bosses in government, not someone at his level. So, he left serious issues in Nigeria to address Bobrisky.” The police last Saturday stormed the venue for Bobrisky’s 28th birthday party at The Pearl Gardens, Lekki, Lagos, with several arrests making reportedly made. The celebrity lamented on his Instagram page that the money spent on the party had gone down the drain, including what appeared to be a lavish seven-tier cake. But Runsewe, who spoke on Platform, a programme of the Nigerian Television Authority, on Friday, said the money spent on Bobrisky’s birthday had been wasted. The interviewer had asked Runsewe to comment on the conceivably funny statement made by “a particular character” on social media after the NCAC boss had reprimanded him “for behaving in a certain manner”. He said, “I am sure you are referring to Bobrisky. That is a national disaster. He is an embarrassment to this country. He said he deals with my bosses but that is for yesterday. Today, if he deals with my bosses, when his party was to take place on Saturday, why didn’t he call my bosses to tell me to open the door? “We dropped the whole thing and all the food was a waste because he thought he was dealing with the Nigerians of yesterday. A change has come and there must be a new vision for this great country. “We are going to issue a statement very soon. If we catch anybody on the street disgracing this country, there is law and order in this country. He was only dropping names. He knows nobody. That statement he made is enough to destroy the credibility of our country https://dailynaijamode.com/bobrisky-is-embarrassing-nigeria-runsewe/

@dailynaijamode https://dailynaijamode.com/dieter-zetsche-to-earn-n1-4m-daily-in-retirement/ Not many people have had influence in the global automotive industry as Dieter Zetsche. For 13 years, he was the chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and head of Mercedes-Benz, which is headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany. Once named on the TIME magazine’s list of 100 most influential people, Zetsche, 66, is credited with bringing significant core changes to the Mercedes-Benz company and successfully running a brand with an annual turnover of £150bn and workforce of 300,000. On May 22, 2019, he retired as the German automaker’s CEO, having run one of the largest and most important companies in the automotive industry. As a former chairman of Daimler, Zetsche will get an annual pension package of €1.55m (N521m) starting from 2020, the company has said. This implies that he will get around €4,250 (N1.4m) per day. Until now, a former head of Volkswagen AG, Martin Winterkorn – who stepped down in 2015 following the company’s diesel emissions scandal – held the title for having the highest pension package of about €3,100 (N1m) per day, in Germany. The man with the white walrus moustache Zetsche was famous for his white walrus moustache and shunning ties more than anything else – even at the company’s corporate events. He was born in Turkey while his civil engineer father, Herbert Zetsche, temporarily relocated there for a dam construction project. The family later returned to Germany when Dieter was three years old. Zetsche graduated as an electrical engineer from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany, in 1976 and completed his doctorate in engineering in 1982 at the University of Paderborn, also in Germany. He joined Daimler-Benz in 1976, working in the firm’s research department. In 1981, he was promoted to an Assistant Development Manager. He became a member of the Daimler Chrysler’s Board of Management in 1998 and served as the President/CEO of the Chrysler Group from mid-2000 to December 31, 2005, where he was credited with a turnaround of DCX’s American operations. Zetsche was appointed as chairman of Daimler AG on January 1, 2006 and was the main influence behind the demerger of Daimler and Chrysler in 2007, which ended in the newly formed Daimler AG. He received €14.4m (N4.8bn) in pay and bonuses in 2014, making him the second-highest paid employee at a listed German company. More in Home Zetsche as an ingenious CEO While Zetsche was still in the US heading the Chrysler Group, he was famously called Dr Z. He was regarded as a friendly CEO who would answer all and any questions. It was said that not many knew he was actually the boss. When he was named the Daimler AG head in 2006, he ran the Mercedes car division himself. There he was able to introduce an entirely new design for the brand. These efforts were a great success and impressed buyers around the globe. As an engineer, he also gave a lot of attention to how the cars ran and improved quality and customer satisfaction. However, it was said that one thing Zetsche was not able to do while he headed Daimler AG was to save the high-end Maybach division. Revived in 2002, the brand was supposed to be the ultimate in driving luxury and compete with other high-end brands like Rolls Royce. In the end, only around 3,000 Maybachs were sold and the last one was made in December 2012. Today, Mercedes makes its own Maybach-branded car, but it is just a beefed-up S-Class. It is said this is why most Maybachs look like the S-Classes. Be that as it may, Zetsche is said to have left a legacy at Daimler AG. Asked in a recent interview by Top Gear, a British motoring magazine, what had been the best part of his career, he answered, “The products and technology. I liked to spend two hours a week in the design studio and do test drives. My original motivation was that I like to create things and have an influence on things. Obviously, you have more influence as CEO than as the guy sitting at the gatehouse.” He added that as a leader, he wanted to be shaped, not to shape things. He said, “I like to go round the globe and talk with people who have insight and get different perspectives. My family have become more open-minded, a global family. “You have a lot of potential for personal growth through a job like this. But it comes with responsibilities, challenges, setbacks and pressures. It doesn’t come for free.” Speaking on particular regrets and setbacks in his career, he said, “Of course, the financial crisis, the necessity to sell Chrysler when I had originally been part of the vote for the merger. “Of course, when you’re standing in the sunshine, it’s nice, but when you’ve been through the storm, that’s when you grow and you learn.” After retirement Zetsche is not the type of person to rest. Just a few days after retiring from Daimler AG, he was named as the chairman of Tourism Union International AG, popularly known as TUI AG. TUI AG is an Anglo-German travel and tourism company headquartered in Hannover, Germany. It is described to be the largest leisure, travel and tourism company in the world. It owns travel agencies, hotels, airlines, cruise ships and retail stores. The group is said to own six European airlines, the largest holiday fleet in Europe and several tour operators in Europe. Meanwhile, Zetsche was highly celebrated in the automotive industry as he retired from Daimler AG in May, to the extent that one of the company’s biggest rivals, BMW, released an emotional video documenting his last day at work. In a short clip published on YouTube, the video showed Zetsche saying goodbye to his colleagues, handing in his badge and going home by a chauffeured black S-Class. As he got home, the garage door opened to uncover a vintage Mercedes-Benz car, but went out for a ride in a BMW i8 Roadster. At the end of the tribute video, BMW thanked Zetsche for his work. “Thank you, Dieter Zetsche, for so many years of inspiring competition,” BMW said in the video. Of course, Mercedes quickly reacted with a cheeky response to the video on Twitter and suggested that Zetsche was going for an all-electric EQ model from Mercedes, instead of BMW’s open-top hybrid sports car. Meanwhile, as Zetsche retired from Daimler AG, the company’s then-head of product development, Ola Källenius, was named to replace him. Källenius is a 50-year-old Swedish who is a strong advocate of plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles. Net worth and house Zetsche is reportedly worth $4bn and lives in an expansive mansion in Stuttgart, the capital and largest city of Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

Nigerians in Diaspora beg on behalf of Leah Sharibu Leah Sharibu The Federal Government has said that it is not giving up its moves on negotiating for the release of Leah Sharibu, stating that she is still alive. Senior Special Assistant to the President, Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said the Buhari administration was still in talks with her captors in the hope that she would be released soon. Leah Sharibu, the student of Government Girls Science and Technical Secondary School, Dapchi, was kidnapped by a faction of Boko Haram terrorists in February 2018. Speaking to a group of journalists on Saturday in Abuja, Shehu said: ‘‘Instead of giving up, the government is carrying forward processes that should hopefully yield her release by her captors.” The presidential spokesman was responding to speculations on whether Leah Sharibu, the kidnapped Dapchi school girl had been harmed by her abductors. He told reporters emphatically that much of what is written about the girl in the press is false news. “Lines of communications remain open with the kidnappers, ISWAP, to secure the release of Leah Sharibu. ‘‘Contrary to false reports, she is alive – given assurances from our security agencies-, and the government is committed to her safe return, as well as all other hostages to their families. “Kidnapping for ransom should never be encouraged. This means not capitulating to the demands of terrorists: refrain from rewarding their heinous crimes with payment. ‘’With the abduction of loved family and friends, the government understands how difficult these times are for them, but government is pursuing many options to ensure the safe return of Leah Sharibu. “We must commit to law and communication, using the breadth of strategies at our disposal: legal initiatives, stakeholder cooperation, involvement of all relevant parties and the use of the latest hostage negotiation techniques. ‘‘Kidnapping for ransom is rising across the Sahel. We must – collectively – make sure we implement best practice to prevent its exploitation,’’ he said. https://dailynaijamode.com/sharibu-alive-fg-not-giving-up-on-release-presidency/ |

At the end of the investigation, about 80 Nigerians were indicted, with some of the accomplices still in Nigeria. Iro and Igbokwe’s role was to ensure the laundering of money deposited by a victim into a bank account or a money services account. The Wednesday afternoon announcement comes a day after the United States announced increases in its visa fees for Nigerians as a way of retaliating Nigeria’s high fees. The U.S. State Department said the visa fees were increased after 18 months of consultation with the Nigerian government, to make its visa fees for Americans proportional, failed. The department also said it was compelled by existing laws to increase fees for Nigerians after issuing them visas. Nigerians whose American visa have been approved are now to pay extra fees ranging from $80 to $110 (N28,800 to N39,600), depending on the type of visa being applied for, the State Department said on Tuesday. Applicants were required to pay $110 for B1, B2, B1/B2; F1 and F2 while H1B and H4 visas attract $180. I visa applicants will pay $210 while L1, L2 applicants will pay $303 and R1 and R2 $80. “These fees are based on the principle of reciprocity: when a foreign government imposes fees on the US citizens for certain types of visas, the United States will impose a reciprocal fee on citizens of that country or area of authority for similar types of visas,” the State Department said. On Wednesday, Nigeria’s Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola, said that a downward review of the visa fees charged to Americans by Nigeria had been approved months ago, but could not be implemented due to the transition process. President Muhammadu Buhari was announced the winner of 2019 elections in February and was inaugurated in late May for a second time. He, however, did not set up his cabinet until last week. https://dailynaijamode.com/breaking-nigeria-backs-down-slashes-visa-fees-for-americans/ |

Dino Melaye, lawmaker representing Kogi west senatorial district, has described himself as Daniel, one of the prophets in the Bible. One of the most famous stories of Daniel was how he was thrown into a lion’s den for refusing to worship a king but he came out of the den unharmed. In an interview with Channels Television, Melaye, who was reacting to the judgement of the tribunal which sacked him and ordered a fresh election in the senatorial district, said he can never fail. The senator had earlier declared interest in the November governorship election in Kogi. He said there would only be another election in Kogi west after he has been sworn in as governor of the senate. Taunting Smart Adeyemi, his opponent in the election, the lawmaker said: “Smart Adeyemi is my political wife; I defeated him in 2015, I defeated him in 2019 and any day any time, he is my political wife. “I want to say that I cannot be distracted and I will not be distracted. My name is Daniel; I will not fall… I am focused on my governorship ambition and we will get it. The only time there will be election for the seat of the Senate in Kogi West is after I am sworn in as the governor of Kogi State. “That will necessitate vacancy but before then, there will be no by-election as a result of attempted robbery that is going on right now.” He added that efforts were in place to appeal the judgement of the tribunal which he described as unfavourabel. “Spiritually we are already in the court of appeal; physically we will be there on Monday. The only election that will be conducted is the governorship election that I will win. My mandate is secured, my mandate is guaranteed,” he said. https://dailynaijamode.com/dino-melaye-my-name-is-daniel-i-will-not-fail/ |

The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) says it has arrested many Nigerians in an ongoing investigation related to fraud cases. In a press conference monitored by TheCable on Thursday, Nick Hanna, US attorney, said the fraud cases involved suspects colluding with federal and state agents to dupe unsuspecting victims of their money. He said a total of 80 suspects “many of whom are from Nigeria” have been arrested and charged to court with 57 more being hunted globally. He said: “FBI agents along with federal and state law enforcement authorities arrested a total of 14 defendants in the US, all named in a sweeping fraud and money laundering case. “Those arrested today are among 80 defendants charged in a federal grand jury indictment that alleges that millions of dollars were taken from victims through a variety of scams and online frauds. “We believe this is one of the largest cases of its kind in US history. BEC scam is used to hack email accounts to convince businesses or individuals to make payments that are either completely bogus or that should have been otherwise paid to legitimate companies. “Indictments showed very specific allegations against this suspects many of whom are based in Nigeria in terms of stealing money from victims. The indictment also focuses on those responsible for enabling these fraud schemes including operatives in Los Angeles.” Hanna said some of the victims were targeted specifically because they were elderly or vulnerable. He added that a total of 252 count charges ranging from “conspiracy to defraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering, aggravated identity theft” have been filed against the suspects. https://dailynaijamode.com/fbi-announce-arrest-of-fraudulent-nigerians/
