Senator Godswill Akpabio has fulfilled the promise he made to a boy, Elijah Aniefiok Edem during the solemn assembly by the All Progressives Congress on Sunday. Master Edem from Mbiabong Ikot Essien had last Sunday on sighting Senator Akpabio, out of sheer excitement removed the T-shirt he wore, threw it on the floor and asked the Senator to march on it. The story of Boy Edem is unique. Although both parents are alive, they are separated. They have both remarried. He lives with his grandmother, Mrs Ema Ani Edem who takes care of him. He is a presently in JS 3 at Secondary School, Etoi. He sells pure water to support the grandmother. On this fateful day, the Boy had abandoned his pure water business when he learnt Senator Akpabio would attend the solemn assembly at Nsima Ekere’s campaign ground along Four Lanes. He defied the security cordon around the Senator and removed his shirt, threw it on the floor for the Senator to walk on. Moved by the commitment of the Boy Senator Akpabio promised to give the Boy five hundred thousand Naira to replace the T-shirt. On Tuesday, December 4, 2018, Senator Akpabio through his Special Assistant on Media, Anietie Ekong presented the five hundred thousand Naira cash to Boy Elijah and the grandmother. Mr. Ekong later took Elijah to a boutique and literally changed his wardrobe by buying shirts, trousers and shoes for the boy. He later took the Boy and the grandmother to a bank and opened an account in the Boy’s name to be operated by the grandmother and deposited the five hundred thousand Naira for him. Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu, wife of late Biafran warlord, and former Nigerian Ambassador to Spain, has recollected the good old moments when she contested in the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria beauty pageant and won as an undergraduate law student 30 years ago. The former beauty queen also won subsequent beauty pageants and visited over 20 countries within one year. Mrs. Ojukwu took to her Facebook page to share throwback pictures as she wrote; Thirty years ago this day, 4th Dec. 1988, I ventured in trepidation onto the grand stage of the National Theatre, Lagos, as a contestant in the MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRL IN NIGERIA PAGEANT by Silverbird Productions. By the grace of God I won the contest. I was then a law undergraduate at the University of Nigeria. The rest, as they say, is history. Then it was the era of ‘winner takes all’ as pageant winner. From there I took off to Banjul, where the MISS AFRICA Pageant was held and I once again emerged the Winner. Next was the MISS CHARM Contest in Moscow which saw me emerge as Miss Drushbah. After that was the MISS INTERCONTINENTAL Pageant. I am the ever African ever to have won this Pageant. This was an awesome experience which provided a wonderful opportunity to visit over 20 countries of the world in the space of one year of my ‘reign’( a great privilege for a mere student) including 12 European countries as well as several other world destinations including Singapore, Japan,Russia, Taipei, Dubai, Republic Of China, Hong Kong where I represented Nigeria at the MISS WORLD beauty Pageant and Cancun, Mexico where I was the Country’s representative at the MISS UNIVERSE Pageant. It is to God’s glory that I went this far. Today, as always, I continue to celebrate the amazing opportunities God has thrown along my path in life. This is just one of them. The soldier identified as Chuks Abaga took to social media to reveal how the superior fire from the Boko Haram insurgents left them demoralised and forced them to retreat. He also said that many corpses are still in the bush and are yet to be recovered due to the rescue mission being thwarted by the Boko Haram insurgents even after the attack. Below is what he shared on Facebook yesterday. Am a Survival of Metele attack on 18th. We were attacked by 5pm by Boko Haram. A soldier on the observation post alerted everybody in the camp were we all took cover and dash into our trenches we started exchange of bullet that lasted for about 15mins, they came with enough gun truck mounted with A.A GUN, the gun truck I can count when the attack was going on was 13 gun trucks, 2 Mrap, 3 Ammo personnel carrier (APC), when we noticed the type of weapon and the rate of volume of fire that was coming from their weapon we were demoralise by their fire power and heavy volume of fire. We were force to withdraw to avoid been killed by the insurgence we ran into the bushes to save our lives. From there we start to locate our colleague and move to 119 battalion camp where we were welcomed and taken care of. The following morning the morning the 7 bridage Commander came brig. General Yahaya and ask us to go for evacuation of soldiers died body we were given air support so called surveillance in which we are communicating together to go metele to recover bodies. So we ask the pilot to move ahead of us and tell us the situation of the camp he went ahead and came back that everywhere is Charlie charlie means everywhere is okay from there we carried only 8 dead bodies on the road that lead to the camp from no where we started hearing firing from our camp Boko Haram are in our camp from they started firing at us with there AA gun so we turn back to 119 camp back up till now soldier dead bodies are still in that bush as am speaking to you the Nigerian Army have not recover any dead bodies.
