Here's an update on the little girl, Khadijah Bashir, who was raped when she was 6 months old by her mother's friend. The suspected culprit reportedly hired 10 lawyers to defend him in court. The traumatized baby who is now 8 months old -is being treated at a hospital in Kano after undergoing surgery as her parents are unable to hire any legal representative due to lack of funds. Read an update by Aishat Alubankudi who visited the baby in the hospital. UPDATE: Justice for Khadija Bashir Today, I visited Khadija Bashir at Murtala Muhammad Teaching hospital. She is just 8month old and was raped at 6month by husband of her mother's friend. I couldn't hold my tears when Khadija's father show me pictures of how she was brutalised by the rapist. She was bleeding and sperm was coming from her private part even after the surgery. The culprits are currently in prison custody and they hired lawyers to cover their shame. They are also intimidating the father of the baby. Her poor father is the one putting her medical bills and he need our assistance. Some NGOs in Abuja and Lagos have indicated their interest to help the parent. The help coming from Kano is discouraging. We are calling on Kano state government, Civil society organisations and wealthy individuals to assist in anyway possible. This is the moment angry workers disrupted the rally at the Eagle Square in Abuja to mark this year’s May Day yesterday as thousands of unionists demanded that President Muhammadu Buhari “must address the suffering workers.” The drama in Abuja started, when the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, failed to appear in person to address the workers, but said he would only deliver President Buhari’s message to them. The workers, who claimed to have been deceived on many occasions by Ngige, approached the podium and disallowed further proceedings, warning that they would only listen to the president they voted for in 2015, especially as he had promised to help cushion the sufferings of millions of Nigerian workers. The unfortunate event, threw the dignitaries, including the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and the representative of the Senate President, into confusion. They were later shielded and rescued out of the venue by security men. Source; http://www.nationalhelm.net/2017/05/see-moment-angry-workers-nearly.html

Troops of Operation DELTA SAFE in line with its mandate to rid Niger Delta of all criminal acts of militancy and kidnappings in a special operation repelled an attack on troops location around Ajakpa community in the creeks of Southern Ondo State last night. The attack was led by one notorious gang leader, Ossy Ibori with a hideout at Ajakpa, Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State. The leader was gunned down during the gun duel, along with some of his his gang members. His body was identified by some of the locals in the area. While search for other criminals who jumped into the water with gunshot wounds is ongoing, troops had recovered one AK-47 Rifle and 4 Magazines. It could be recalled that, criminal gangs led by late Ossy Ibori have been terrorising parts of Lagos,Ogun and Ondo states prior to this operation. They committed many atrocities threatening the peace and security of the general areas. Last month, the gang kill an army captain and 2 Policemen at Ikorodu. Also late last year, abducted students and staff of a secondary school. The criminals in addition, carried out several attacks at Ese-Odo community around Ajakpa,Safarogbo and Balowo areas. The need to flush them out from their hudeout became necessary to ensure peace and sexurity in Ondo state. Sadly in the process, one gallant soldier paid the supreme price while 3 others sustained gun shot wounds. They have since been moved to military hospital for proper medical attention. While the operation is ongoing, let me appeal to law abiding residents of the affected communities to remain calm, vigilant and support our troops with valuable information on whereabouts of other criminals. Read below what was shared by Samson Akindele, Head of News at Fresh 105.9 FM, Ibadan A 50-year-old photographer died yesterday in the Challenge area of Ibadan. He was reportedly tortured by some men of the Oyo State Special Anti-Robbery Squad at their Dugbe Headquarters. According to family sources, friends and neighbours, the man was arrested on Friday, April 21, 2017 alongside four others during a raid at a spot for allegedly smoking Indian hemp. One of his co-suspects told me on tape that on getting to SARS detection facility at Dugbe, they got daily vicious beatings from the policemen who used what they claimed looked like hockey sticks and other iron materials to torture many detainees. It is now believed that this man died from the torture due to internal bleeding. My investigation further revealed that each of the other suspects' relations and friends had to pay nothing less than 30,000 naira to get bailed after days without food. It learnt that the deceased could not get to his family nor friends because his phone was seized and having realised that he could die in detention, his the policemen quickly released him to a man (who also spoke on tape) who brought him to his house after paying 3,500 Naira as bail. According to the man, the police reduced the bail money to 5,000 Naira but when he could not raise up to that, they hurriedly released the deceased to him. But on getting home, as the man was being helped to alight from the motorcycle (Okada) that brought him home, he gave up the ghost just at the front yard of the house. From the taped interview I had with one of those arrested and detained with the deceased, he never smoked cannabis, even though he (co-suspect) admitted doing so. Neighbours also attested to the simple lifestyle, industry and good neighbourliness of the man. They all opposed to the Indian hemp theory woven around the man they loved to see around. Meanwhile, family members have reported the matter at the Orita Police Division and have contacted pathologists to examine the body to determine the real cause of death. Police are yet to react to the incident. Details later.... Source; http://www.nationalhelm.net/2017/05/how-sars-operatives-beat-photographer.html

Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets on Friday successfully destroyed an artillery piece being sneaked into Sambisa forest by insurgents. Air Commodore Olatokunbo Adesanya, Director of Public Relations and Information, in a statement, said the artillery piece was concealed under a tree and sighted by a NAF Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft while on daytime patrol in the Sambisa general area. He said that about seven insurgents were also observed to be moving out from under the tree. “The crew on board the ISR platform therefore, immediately called for air strikes by NAF combat platforms. “Following the alert, one Alpha Jet and one F-7Ni fighter aircraft were scrambled for air interdiction on the artillery piece. “The Alpha Jet and F-7Ni strikes were observed to have hit the target. Thereafter, the Alpha Jet strafed the area with rockets and the location of the artillery piece was completely engulfed in an inferno. “Subsequently, Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) footage by a NAF ISR aircraft revealed that the strikes were successful as the artillery piece was neutralised,” Adesanya explained. Adesanya stated that with the successful attacks, attempts by the remnants of the insurgents to reinforce their capability with the artillery piece was thwarted.
