Hi all. For people that have recently received their passports back from VFS, how long did it take from when you paid for courier and filled the form to when you received the passport. I don’t know why there’s been a delay in them sending my mom’s passport back. |

olajisunkanmi:Are you a citizen/PR/student/work visa in Canada? Did you add your own bank statement to help bolster her financial capability? When we applied for my mother she didn’t have up to what your mum had. We used our own bank statement to support hers (although my MIL has a registered business she runs sha). I think the problem the visa officer has with the application is that she might not return so you need to show more ties she has in Nigeria (landed property, spouse/other kids etc) 1 Like |

Kaylash: Check on ircc site as long as the person is exempt from travel restriction, there’s an email address you send email to telling them your application details and showing proof that the person is exempt from travel restriction. Check their website the info is there. |

I’m back to drop this here. Got a lot of info from this group, my parents submitted paper application on February 11th at Vfs Lagos, did biometrics same day. Not sure when they got bvl, got final decision letter on Friday March 7th and picked up passport today. My dad was given 10yrs visa and my mum 5yrs. My dad sponsored both of them, submitted his company documents, bank statement, landed documents and invitation letter from me and my husband. They have plenty travel history. Fingers crossed now for my mother in law, we submitted her application two weeks ago but she doesn’t have travel history. 2 Likes |

Hello people. I used to actively follow this thread when I was in Naija imagining how Canadian life will be but now I guess life has just taken over, and I used to vex for people that did it! Like once ppr comes and they land most people just stop coming here. Now I’ve joined them (I’m sorry) so just little feedback, I landed In September 2019. It’s been a journey, I thought this Canadian dream was going to be the answer to all my prayers well I thought wrong (like everything will be automatically better) It’s hard, super tasking, drains you and sometimes you’re just tired but it’s been amazing and fulfilling I guess, I’m more at peace here, life is simple. So I landed in Edmonton Alberta, got an apartment before we left naij so job hunt basically started immediately. So tip 1: Try and start looking for accommodation before you leave naija, if you have family or friends that can view it for you before you land then good, if not just have an idea of the area you would like consider factors like daycare close by, grocery stores cos you might not have a car immediately. (And trust me their public transportation especially in Edmonton sucks!). This is helpful so that when you land you basically have an idea of the area you would like and what amenities are available to you, I’m not saying it can’t change o but you’ll save some time. When we landed I immediately enrolled my daughter in daycare, please tip 2 for people that have kids, enroll them in school or daycare as soon as you can, it’ll give you free time to job hunt and just get your life started. I also enrolled in an employment success program, didn’t plan it just one of my waka to the settlement agencies and someone just mentioned it and I’m like oh well why not? I was kuku jobless, I did the program for 2 weeks and I got my first job, so tip 3: the importance of those agencies can’t be overemphasised, don’t go there with the impression that they’ll get job for you o, cos that’s what I thought too but then I started applying and using the tips I got from them, I got the interview and I did a mock interview with them before I went for the actual one which helped a lot. Tip 4 : Canadian culture is complete opposite from our naija one so you have to unlearn and relearn (which I’m still doing sef). see ehn it’s one thing to get the job and it’s another to keep it, just lay low and observe your surroundings basically do as they do, you’ll get the hang of it ( like I said I’m still learning o), they have a way they do things and you can’t just come with initial gra gra. I think that’s all I remember for now. Ps for people landing in Edmonton between now and March, better set aside winter gear funds, you’re gonna need it o(in chigurl’s voice). Pps these tips are just from my point of view, if anyone has any other tips please share them o (I need it plis) 93 Likes 23 Shares |

I think i know where you orked. Working as a collection agent has opened my eyes to see how canadians handle finances. Most live pay to paycheck and that person that's barely surviving is paying off a $35,000 car. Im like CanadianWasp: 1 Like |
