Buhari was touted as a frugal and incorruptible man.

Having had the disaster of Jonathan for 5yrs with a treasury that was emptying as oil income was increasing, those qualities touted in Buhari became very attractive.

No president is an economic genius, rather they try to build a sound economic team. So we expected any President to do so. However the political will of the president to grow the economy is what you look out for.

We saw the will in candidate Buhari to revamp the economy and fight corruption, while we saw the denial in candidate Jonathan who as the incumbent believed he was doing a good job despite emptying our treasury and borrowing more funds and with a determination that he will not fight corruption.

The mistake made is that we did not give the other candidates from other parties the chance to sell their agenda to us. They did not have the robust platform of APC or PDP, and we also were too lazy to seek them out.

It was mandatory to sack Jonathan, it was not mandatory to elect Buhari, but we did.

I campaigned for Buhari and was so disappointed when I couldn't get to vote for him as I did not have the PVC released to me by INEC, and eventually I was away on a project.

Now I know I had been saved the trauma of voting a useless president.

Nigerians stop deceiving yourselves and wasting billions of naira printing ballot papers and election materials.

Adopt 100% Electronic voting. Sit in your house, register on the INEC portal with your BVN and vote from the comfort of your home.

No Agberoes, no vote-buying, no Wike sending his thugs to attack voters, and write ridiculous results to keep himself in power, No INEC complaining about the cost of printing long ballot papers to accommodate XYZ parties, and the cost of moving election materials across 774 local government within a short time frame. INEC would not have to engage thousands of policemen, soldiers, Airforce, Navy, Civil defence etc and shut down the country just to hold to an election.

India has more than 1000 political parties and do electronic voting.
If we correlate their population with ours, we should have at least 200 political parties in Nigeria. Corrupt politicians love monopoly and don't like to compete for power. That is why they are very serious about tearing down new political parties and are against registering new ones.They want to be the only one at the banquet table.

That is alsi why Wike and Tinubu are fighting to make this country a 1-party or 2-party state by intimidating other parties. Nigeria does not belong to APC or PDP alone. Even America has numerous other parties about from the GOP and the Democrats. In Nigeria, we already use electronic means for everyday business, real time money transfer, Banking, research, education, shopping etc. Why is difficult to adopt it for an electoral exercise that happens only in 1-2 days every 4 years?

Its still yuck. I was in Unilag over twenty five years ago when they started suggesting black and white for law students and even back then we thought it was madness.

If all University students were forced to wear Uniforms, police would have fewer young men to harrass at road blocks. They fear and respect those dressed responsibly.

I am in the medical field, graduated many years ago, but before I got into the University, I fancied wearing baggy jeans and Timberland boots as we immitated American hip-hop stars in high school.

Got into the university thereafter, and got accustomed to dressing corporate and clean to medical classes till graduation, it stuck with me, and now you will only catch me dead wearing a baggy jeans or bandana.

I have ended branded my corporate dressing in some way and love wearing white and navy blue as my fashion style.

I will tell you what this has done for me. While people struggle to get into banking halls, I stroll in because they think I work there or must be a very important person.

Sometimes police stop my car (I drive an expensive car), I salute them, they salute me, I greet them by calling them by their name and rank (if there is a name tag) and they pass me on to go. They sometimes think I am a military naval officer, because I am now accustomed to wearing those colours while studying in school after leaving school. It was our departmental colour..I don't keep a beard or a dread. I am always clean-shaven and well-groomed.
I pass through military checkpoints and have soldiers salute me.

So, I have concluded that I hadn't become confident in the way we were forced to dress to class, I would have ended up wearing bandanas and baggy jeans- the trademark of those the police love to shake-down and harass.

The maxim- 'You are addressed the way you dress is the biggest truism that I have ever experienced.
