Kemi Olunloyo, and Port Harcourt-based publisher, Samuel Walson’s bail application was on Thursday stalled as Magistrate Alatuwo Fubara of the Magistrates’ Court in Port Harcourt who was to preside over the hearing failed to appear in court, forcing them to stay back in prison custody. Olunloyo and Walson were arrested for purportedly publishing materials believed to have defamed a Port Harcourt based cleric, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, of the Salvation Ministries. The magistrate was said to have been unable to come to the court due to ill health. The duo’s lawyers and counsel for Salvation Ministries were present at court. Others at the court were journalists and bloggers, who came to cover the hearing and also show solidarity to their colleague. Olunloyo, who was arrested in Ibadan and Walson, apprehended in Port Harcourt, were remanded at the Port Harcourt Prison. |

While the Kardashians might be one of the world’s most famous families seemingly loved by all, they definitely do have some folks who are bent on putting a dent in their oh so “perfect lives”, According to TMZ, popular DASH shop in Los Angeles belonging to sexy reality stars (Kim, Kourtney and Khloe) was vandalised in the early hours of Thursday morning. The outside was also covered in red spray by the vandals. Meanwhile supermodel Kendall Jenner reportedly had $200,000 worth of jewellery stolen from her home in the Hollywood Hills. According to rumours, burglars entered Kendall’s house between when she went for lunch and returned home at 8pm on Wednesday night. Kendall didn’t raise the alarm at first as she was yet to discover things had gone missing, it dawned when she went to her bedroom just after one in the morning. However, the was no sign of a forced entry according to the police who now believe it was taken by someone who attended a party at the house on Wednesday night; Kendall is said to have held a party at her Hollywood Hills home with a group of friends. Note that this isn’t the first time The LA DASH shop has been vandalised; Last June a firebomb attack was attempted. Recall that Kim Kardashian was also robbed in Paris and is yet to recover fully. see photos here: http://happenings.com.ng/kendall-jenners-home-burgled-kardashians-dash-shop-vandalised/ |
As a way of containing the outbreak of water-borne diseases in Queens College which unfortunately led to the deaths of two students, the Lagos State government has advised an indefinite shutdown of Queens College. Addressing journalists in Lagos on Thursday, Jide Idris, the state’s Commissioner of Health, said the school’s resumption should be delayed until appropriate health measures are put in place for the safety of the students. Two students have died since the outbreak of water-borne diseases in the school, while more than 50 others are currently on admission in the school’s clinic after eating spaghetti and drinking water in the refectory. According to Idris the water samples which were collected from the school and analysed at the state’s Drug Quality Control Laboratory as well as the Microbiology Department of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital showed high bacteria content. “The results from the two laboratories showed high bacteria content in the water samples from kitchen, behind dining hall and Queens Delight, the school water factory,” said Mr. Idris. “The bacteria range from Coliforms, Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Klebsiella ozoana, and Aeromonas hydrophilia.” The school, a federal government-owned institution, is billed to reopen from its midterm break on March 19, however Mr. Idris called for a postponement because, according to results from school’s sick bay, onset of the students’ illness began on January 16. “The total number of students who presented at the clinic on account of abdominal pain, fever, vomiting and diarrhoea was 1,222 from the first date of presentation (11/01/17) to the last date of presentation (15/02/17),” Mr. Idris said. “There were four different peak periods of infection namely 31st January 2017, 2nd, 8th, and 14th of February 2017. “16 ill cases were admitted in various hospitals. Nine have been discharged, two died, while one is still on admission at the Intensive Care Unit of LASUTH and three at LUTH.” he said See more here: http://happenings.com.ng/2-student-dead-govt-advices-indefinite-closure-mass-bacterial-infection/ |

Roger Federer played superbly to claim a third straight win over Rafael Nadal for the first time in his career and reach the last eight in Indian Wells. The Swiss, 35, won 6-2 6-3 to follow up his Australian Open final victory over the Spaniard two months ago, when Federer won his 18th Grand Slam title. He will next face Australia’s Nick Kyrgios, who upset world number two Novak Djokovic 6-4 7-6 (7-3). Svetlana Kuznetsova was the first player into the women’s semis. The eighth seed saw off fellow Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-3 6-2 and next meets Czech third seed Karolina Pliskova or Spaniard Garbine Muguruza, seeded seventh. In the pair’s 36th meeting – and first before the quarter-finals of a tournament since their initial meeting in Miami 13 years ago – Federer notched his 13th victory and third in a row. Nadal, 30, had built his success against Federer over the years on attacking the Swiss player’s backhand, but Federer turned his weaker wing into a weapon in the Australian Open final, and if anything was even more aggressive in Indian Wells.
