Politics / Saudi's Crown Prince To Build A $500 Billion Desert City With Artificial Rain by damilogogle(m): 4:38pm On Jul 27, 2019
Fresh details have emerged about Saudi Arabia's wildly ambitious plan to build a $500 billion mega-city in the middle of the desert, officially known as the Neom project.
According to a report from the Wall Street Journal on Thursday , plans have been drawn up to furnish the city, which Saudi Arabia wants to be the size of Massachusetts, with a variety of futuristic, and in some cases, downright weird sounding, technologies.

The Journal cites reports created by three of the world's biggest consultancy firms - McKinsey & Co, Boston Consulting, and Oliver Wyman - all of whom have been employed to help plan the creation of Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman's vision for the city.

The city will be known as Neom, a portmanteau of the Greek word neos, meaning "new," and mustaqbal, the Arabic word for "future."
Among the ideas presented in the consultants' reports, the Journal says, are artificial clouds to create rain in the desert, robotic maids to do housework, and a beach featuring glow-in-the-dark sand.

Proposed features mentioned in the consultancy reports are said to include:

Flying taxis. In the future, one report says, according to the Journal: Driving is just for fun, no longer for transportation (e.g. driving Ferrari next to the coast with a nice view)."
A giant artificial moon that will be illuminated every evening.

A state-of-the-art security and surveillance system, which will use drones, security cameras, and facial recognition technology to track every citizen constantly.
"Cloud seeding" technology to make artificial clouds and produce higher rainfall that naturally possible in the Saudi desert.

School classes taught by holographic teachers. Neom will have the "leading education system on the planet," the consultants' reports say.
A Jurassic Park-like island filled with robotic dinosaurs to entertain residents and visitors.
A dining scene including the "highest rate of Michelin-starred restaurants per inhabitant" of any city in the world.

Neom is the centerpiece in bin Salman's Vision 2030 plan to modernize and diversify the Saudi economy, lessening the kingdom's reliance on fossil fuels.
Saudi Arabia is the world's second biggest producer of oil, narrowly behind the US in terms of production capacity.
As a result, its economic prosperity is linked closely with global oil prices, which are volatile.

Politics / Ed Sheeran Acquires His Neighbours Houses After They Complained About Noise by damilogogle(m): 4:24pm On Jul 27, 2019
Superstar Musician, Ed Sheeran took a swing to stop his neighbours from filing noise complaints against him, by spending £4million to buy up houses around him.

The singer said to be worth $160million (£128million) reportedly bought not only the flat above his Notting Hill restaurant, but also the two houses next to his £19.8million mansion in London.

Ed’s had neighbours grumbling about noise before so when he got a chance to buy up the two houses next to his London home, he jumped at the chance,’ a source told The Sun.

‘Ed has not only made a wise investment but is limiting the chance of people grumbling about loud music or parties.’

It was further gathered that he used the same plan for his restaurant in London. These latest purchases have resulted in a property portfolio worth a reported £47million.
He also decided to buy the flat above his restaurant because that could have been a massive sticking point for the business going forward.

Nairaland / General / Alleged reason why Davido was not on Beyonce's Lion King's Gift album by damilogogle(m): 1:40pm On Jul 26, 2019
Some days ago, I posted an Article on Naijaloaded asking what could be the reason why Davido was not on the Beyonce ‘s “Lion King ” album which Wizkid , Burna Boy , Tekno and others graced.

While checking out some tweets on Twitter, a particular tweet caught my attention and I can’t help but bring it here for you all to see.

It might be true and might be false but believe me, I have a feeling this could be the reason – anything is possible oooo.

What’s NDA “Non-disclosure agreement”?

When working on a project, some Brands/Companies or Individuals do not want anyone involved in that project to disclose anything about it to third parties or share the info on Social media.
Most brand will ask you to sign this Agreement, so they can be rest assured you won’t let anyone knows about the Project. You will be sued if you go against this.

Could This Tweet be right?

Even though I do not believe in this tweet, am having this impression that it might be 100% correct because none of the Artistes involved mentioned or hinted their fans about it.
None of them said anything at all, no one saw Nigerian Artistes on that album, we just woke up to it and the internet was on fire.

Why Davido is not on the Album

According to the tweet above, Davido won’t keep to the agreement as anxiety will make him post something about it on Social media.
Davido might just pick up his phone, open the Twitter app and tweet something like this

Well, over to you guys, we want you guys to have a say on this.

Politics / Termites Ate My School Certificate, New Installed CJN Tanko , Says by damilogogle(m): 1:42am On Jul 25, 2019
An affidavit which Tanko Muhammad, the new Chief Justice of Nigeria submitted to the Senate last week ahead of his confirmation as the head of the Supreme Court, revealed claims of termites destroying his primary school certificate.

He alleged that his documents were destroyed beyond recovery, following a termite invasion at his Bauchi State home in 1998. “No portion of the certificate was salvaged,” Mr Muhammad said.
It was further learnt that the new Supreme court head swore the affidavit on February 13, 2002, while he was a judge at the Jos Division of the Court of Appeal and before he became a Supreme Court judge in 2007.

Justice Tanko Mohammed was sworn-in today as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria by President Buhari, following a senate confirmation.

Nairaland / General / Wizkid’s “brown Skin Girl” Vs Burna Boy’s “ja Ara E”, Which Is A Better Jam? by damilogogle(m): 1:12pm On Jul 24, 2019
Hi Guys,
Trust your day has been good so far.
First, we’ve got to appreciate Beyonce for putting on some African acts on her “Lion King ” album.
This is gesture that will remain in the hearts of music lovers in Africa for a very long time.

Meanwhile, we would not allow the trend of this Beyonce ‘s iconic album to fade-off without reviewing the efforts two big Afro-beat exports, Wizkid and Burna Boy on the album.

Wizkid – Brown Skin Girl.

In collaboration with Saint Jhn and Blue Ivy Carter, Wizkid delivered a masterpeice on the song, “Brown Skin Girl “.
Being the lead vocal on the song, Wizkid played his role well on the track, especially the way he was able to set the pace in his introductory verse for others to follow.

Burna Boy – Ja Ara E

Burna Boy was all alone on the track “ Ja Ara E ” on Beyonce’s “ Lion King “. Could this be another proof that Burna is truly the GIANT of Africa, musically?
In as much as we would agree that Burna Boy Kinged it out among other African act on the Album for having a solo track, on the other hand, a feature of another artiste on the other side would have made the track sound better.
Truth be told, Burna Boy ‘s one mopol still murdered the track.

Apparently, these two tracks are fans favourites among other songs by other African acts on the Album.
The question now is, Which Do You Think Is A Better Jam Off Beyonce’s Album?

Sports / Breaking!! Lionel Messi Banned & Fined After Copa America Red Card by damilogogle(m): 12:57pm On Jul 24, 2019
Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, has received a one-game ban from World Cup qualifying series, after a controversial red card at this year’s Copa America, ESPN reports .

Messi was also fined $1,500 for criticising the tournament’s refereeing and the quality of the pitches.
Argentina were eliminated 2-0 by the hosts and eventual champions Brazil in the semi-finals.

Messi was given the red card in the third-place match after bumping chests with Chile’s Gary Medel, which triggered the automatic one-match ban.
He later apologised for his statements, but South American football body CONMEBOL upheld the ban on Tuesday and added the fine.

South American qualifying starts in March.

Nairaland / General / Reno Omokri Reveals The Two Yoruba Men Who Won The Biafran War For Nigeria by damilogogle(m): 12:50pm On Jul 24, 2019
Reno Omokri has debunked a comment of ‘sleeping when Yorubas are beating the drums of war’ credited to Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, as he revealed how two Yoruba men; Benjamin Adekunle and Olusegun Obsanjo won the Biafran war for Nigeria.

Alleging that Nigerians never learn from history, the former Presodential spokesperson recalled how Murtala Mohammed suffered defeat at the hands of Biafrans at Abagana, losing almost 4,000 soldiers and had to be airlifted by a helicopter.

Reno On OK to wrote:-

If I am sleeping and wake up to hear Yorubas beating drums of war, I will go back to sleep” -IBB,1993? ?The above quote is a HOAX. IBB NEVER made that comment. I urge those circulating the ‘quote’ to research the history of the Yoruba led 2nd Marine Commando. ?

The problem with Nigerians is that we don’t learn from history. Murtala Mohammed suffered defeat at the hands of Biafrans at Abagana and lost almost 4,000 soldiers and had to be airlifted by a helicopter. These are facts you can verify from the BBC. It was 2 Yoruba men who won the war for Nigeria. Their names are Benjamin Adekunle and Olusegun Obasanjo.

Nigerian music producer, gospel singer and proprietor of the popular Ibadan radio station, Fresh 105.9 FM, Yinka Ayefele, has finally confirmed his wife’s delivery of a set of triplets, two boys and a girl in the United States.

Ayefele reportedly broke the news on Tuesday during his live programme, “Let’s Talk About It” the programme he co-anchors with Enitan Olusegun Bamidele on his Fresh 105.9 FM.

Also confirming the news of the babies arrival to Tribune Online, David Ajiboye, the media aide to Yinka Ayefele, said the wife, Mrs Tope Ayefele, recently delivered the triplets in Maryland, US.

Ayefele had in June 2019 denied the story of the arrival of his triplets in US.

But speaking with Tribune Online, Ajiboye said his boss earlier denied the delivery of the babies because he doubted the credibility of the source who had contacted him for information on the matter.

Crime / Our Native Doctor Asked Us To Get Skulls Of People We Know For Money Rituals by damilogogle(m): 11:18am On Jul 16, 2019
Suspects who were suspected to be ritual killers have confessed to their crimes, narrating their encounter with a native doctor.
According to The Nation, three suspected ritualists have told the police that their native doctor asked them to get the skulls of people they know for rituals.
Sunday Mathew (52), Samuel Olaniyi (65) and Uchenna Olewunne (49) were arrested with a human skull on July 6, 2019, at Iju, near Ota, Ogun State by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

They claimed, during interrogation, that the native doctor told them they must know the name of anyone whose skulls they would be using, and members of his family, among other information.’’
They paid the native doctor N45,000 which he used to prepare a special concoction with the human head.

Sources said they have given the names of other members of their syndicate to their interrogators.
It was also gathered that the suspects on July 9 took detectives to the family of one of the deceased whose body they exhumed.
The deceased was identified by his family as Idowu Jimoh, who died at the age of 19 on November 15, 2018 following a brief illness and was buried behind his family house.

One of the suspects, Samuel Olaniyi, is said to be related to the family of Idowu Jimoh.
Matthew who claimed to be a farmer from Ipokia , Ogun State said it was his first time of participating in exhuming human remains for rituals.

The father of three said:-
“I am living with this man (Olaniyi Samuel) in the said family house Obere, after Iju.
“I know Uchenna Olewunne. Uchenna is an herbalist and I used to scout for customers with different personal problems for him.
“At a point, my work was not moving fine and I discussed this hard life of mine with Uchenna. I told Uchenna that I was tired of living from hand to mouth, that I wanted to free myself from the chains of abject poverty.

“He said it would cost me just one human head and must be the head of a person known to me in order for the money making charm to be effective and produce the needed millions of naira.
“I told Samuel what Uchenna told me and we met Uchenna again who promised that he would take us to another native doctor who specializes in money rituals at Owode (in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State).

“The native doctor accepted to do it on the condition that we must bring the human head with correct name and other important details. He told us not to be afraid as he had rescued several human head merchants caught by the police in the past.
“In the night of that fateful day, at about 11:00 pm Uchenna came to the family house and we told him that the human head was in a family house. Samuel exhumed the skull while I kept watch to see that nobody was watching us.

“When we took the human head to the native doctor, the man said there were other things needed to prepare the concoction and that it would cost N48,000.
“Samuel and I arranged N16,000 while Uchenna promised to add N10,000 to make the total sum N26,000. But, I don’t know whether Uchenna eventually gave the native doctor the N26, 000 that the three of us contributed.

“However, the native doctor asked us to come back the following day with charcoal to burn the skull to make the concoction. Unfortunately, operatives of IRT arrested us on our way to get the charcoal.’’

The second suspect, Olaniyi, a palm wine tapper and also father of three said: “Matthew lived with me in my one room apartment. Matthew told me about the deal because I had the details of the boy whose skull we wanted to dig out from the grave at his family house.

“The deceased was my relative but I didn’t attend his burial. My role was to bring out the skull while Uchenna’s role was to dig the grave.
‘’My regret is that I didn’t get a dime after the whole exercise. I am still a poor man. The devil deceived us.

Uchenna, the native doctor, denied being a ritualist.
He claimed to be only a specialist in curing ailments.
He said:-
”I am a native doctor, but I am not into rituals. I only cure stomach trouble, venereal diseases, impotency, fever, acute malaria, and fibroid, among others.
“This is my first time of getting involved in money rituals. They came to me and brought the issue of money ritual and I told them the babalawo (native doctor) that could do it for them. I didn’t want to become a millionaire. I didn’t follow them to the grave. They lied against me. I only took them to a native doctor.”

Foreign Affairs / Donald Trump And The Plot To Take Over The Courts by damilogogle(m): 10:59am On Jul 16, 2019
Donald Trump will not be president of the United States forever. He will lose his reelection bid in 2020 or be term-limited out of office in 2024. Or perhaps the inevitable result of human frailty will do its work and put an end to Trump’s ongoing illegal reign. Most people now living will outlast his presidency and be left to pick up the pieces of the shattered nation he will leave behind.

But Trump’s Court—the collection of judges and justices now swarming our judicial system, nominated and confirmed to lifetime appointments on his recommendation—will linger, like an infected wound poisoning the body politic even after the initial injury has scabbed over. As of this writing, the Trump administration has had 123 federal judges confirmed, including 41 to the federal courts of appeal—the circuit courts just one rung below the Supreme Court. By comparison, at this point in his presidency, Barack Obama had pushed only 19 circuit-court judges through to confirmation. Trump’s appointees now account for some 14 percent of the federal judiciary and more than 22 percent of the judges on the nation’s courts of appeal—and he has been in office for just two and a half years. Many of Trump’s other offenses could be overturned by a new president with the stroke of a pen. Trump’s Court will remain as his legacy.

The characteristics of these new Trump judges are not limited to their hostility toward a woman’s right to choose. Trump promised anti-choice judges, and he has made good on that threat. But while tapping judges who can be trusted to oppose the Supreme Court precedent of Roe v. Wade, he has also dredged up those who share a nasty disrespect for any individual rights that don’t flow from God or the barrel of a gun.

Trump judges are dismissive of LGBTQ rights and protections—in some cases, to the point of open bigotry. They’re hostile to minority voting rights and claims of racial or gender discrimination. They’re largely young and inexperienced, and an unsettling number have earned their stripes as partisan think-tank writers, op-ed columnists, or even bloggers. They believe in deregulation to the point of corporate anarchy, meaning that significant climate-change proposals might have to wait until they can be enacted over these judges’ literal dead bodies. And they don’t much resemble the rest of the country: 78 percent are male, and 87 percent are white. Appealing to Trump’s Court is like letting the board of governors at your local yacht club—or Proud Boys chapter—decide your fate.

The Trump Court, of course, is not actually Trump’s idea; he probably wouldn’t be able to tell you the difference between Chief Justice John Roberts and Judge Wapner. But Trump has been all too happy to play along with the game orchestrated by Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell and his coterie of Senate enablers because—it’s a deal, see? Trump delivers the judges, helping fulfill the conservative movement’s long-cherished dream of remaking the judiciary, and his base remains content.

For McConnell, this moment has been a long time in the making. Even before he blocked Merrick Garland, who was nominated by Obama for the Supreme Court after the death of Antonin Scalia, McConnell had been busy systematically stymieing the previous president’s judicial appointments. This years-long campaign of obstruction left an astonishing 106 judicial vacancies at the end of Obama’s second term and is a prime reason that Trump has been able to fill seats at such a brisk pace. The senator was playing a very long game.

Still, McConnell and Trump would not have been able to capitalize on this obstruction if they hadn’t had help from a network of far-right legal arsonists who have spent the better part of the last decades working to change the federal courts from the protectors of last resort for minority rights to the enforcement arm of the Republican Party.

These include organizations like the Heritage Foundation, the Alliance Defending Freedom, the Judicial Crisis Network, and above all the Federalist Society. When Trump MAGA’d his way to the White House, the Federalist Society was ready with a raft of archconservative nominees that it had been incubating to unleash on the country.

Funded by powerful right-wing donors—including Charles and David Koch, Robert and Rebekah Mercer, and the Scaife foundations—the Federalist Society has become the de facto Department of Judicial Appointments in the Trump administration. It’s the Federalist Society, not the White House, that does the serious vetting of many potential nominees. A significant number of Trump’s appointees have come with some sort of approval from Leonard Leo, the Federalist Society’s leader. For Supreme Court appointments, Leo and McConnell give Trump a list. When it comes to lower-court appointments, I’d be shocked if Trump knew anything more than the names of most of the people he’s nominating.

The Federalist Society and McConnell want the same thing: the supremacy of the Republican political agenda. And now they’ve almost won. We stand on the brink of a precipice. In March, Trump finally flipped the critical Third Circuit Court of Appeals (which covers New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware), achieving a majority of judges appointed by Republicans instead of Democrats. In other regions, he’s made the GOP-controlled circuit courts even more conservative.

The Republicans, of course, already control the Supreme Court. If Trump wins a second term, the conservative Anschluss of the lower courts will be complete. And these courts are incredibly important. The Supreme Court heard only about 70 cases during its 2018–19 term, out of nearly 7,000 that are filed annually for potential review. For all the cases that are not taken up by the Supreme Court—the vast majority—these lower courts serve as the final arbiter.

Nothing can reasonably be done to remove the people on Trump’s Court from their current positions. The damage they’ll do for the rest of their lives is our collective punishment for not caring or voting on the basis of court appointments sooner. But we should know who these new judges are, and we should understand what they’re up to.

Politics / Obasanjo His Been “childish ” – Sagay Reacts Over Letter To Buhari by damilogogle(m): 10:47am On Jul 16, 2019
An eminent Professor of Law, Itse Sagay (SAN), has branded former president Olusegun Obasanjo “childish and immature”, for making his letter to President Muhammadu Buhari public.

Obasanjo in the letter released by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, had expressed worry over the high level of insecurity in the country.
Sagay, speaking to the Nation, however, agreed with the points raised in it.
“As far as I’m concerned, Obasanjo’s main motive is publicity, the capacity to embarrass the President, and for adulation.
“He sustains a mentality of being superintendent-general of Nigeria and not accepting that he is no longer in power. It’s all part of it.

“What he said could have easily been communicated by phone; the letter could have been delivered privately. I find writing it to the whole country immature and childish. He made a serious point, and then spoilt it by the way he presented it.
“If he had said it quietly to the President, it would have been acceptable. Is he not embarrassed that he’s the only former president doing it? Gowon and Abubakar are there, just to mention two.

Even Jonathan, who was defeated by Buhari, is there. It’s too childish and immature. It takes away from the quality and the strength of the message he’s trying to deliver,” he said.

Sagay also urged Buhari to sustain efforts in tackling rising insecurity.
“Is the President not already doing that? Can he be the President and not be concerned? Already, the Vice President has spoken of steps being taken – that the roads are going to be heavily monitored by the Police and soldiers.
“I don’t disagree too much with Obasanjo on substance. It is his style that I disagree with, as well as the so-called conference of ethnic stakeholders. I don’t see its relevance. We’ve held so many other conferences out of which nothing came except mutual abuse and insults.
“I think what the President should do is to sustain a very vigorous onslaught and not rest until the bandits and insurgents are rooted out and Nigeria is made safe again.
“He is already doing it and he must sustain it so that we can be free of this menace to our freedom and peace of mind,” Sagay added.

Nairaland / General / Flood Destroys 300 Houses, Renders 2 , 000 Residents Homeless In Anambra by damilogogle(m): 1:42am On Jul 16, 2019
Okpoko community in Ogbaru local government area of Anambra State has been ravaged by flood, destroying 300 houses and rendering 2,000 residents homeless.

The Nation gathered that most residents have fled their homes while others had their belongings buried in the sand.
Some government institutions, including a secondary school and Okpoko Secretariat were also reportedly affected by the flood.

President General of the community, Edwin Emesinwa, said about 100 buildings with over 700 occupants, including landlords and tenants were either pulled down or sand-filled to roofing level.
He revealed that over 1,300 of those living along Obodoukwu road were also rendered homeless while the roads remained inaccessible.

He said; “Since the commencement of this year’s rainy reason, it has been destruction galore in Okpoko. Nobody is spared anytime it rains.
“Most parents don’t allow their children to go to school if it rains, while they will rush to pick those already in school before they will be carried away by flood.
“Areas mostly affected include Ezeakunne street, Unity Comprehensive secondary school and environs, Okpoko secretariat, Obodoukwu road where the 15-feet deep sakamory drainage system has been completely filled with sand.
“One of the victims, Ugochukwu Ejezie, whose house is located along Ezeakunne street, attributed the scourge to the ongoing road construction work in the area.
“The situation is worsened since the awarded of contract for the rehabilitation of Mgbemena street in Awada, Obosi.

“The sand the construction firm piled there will always be carried by the flood with other debris down to Okpoko through Ezeakunne street and that is why you have this massive destruction,” he lamented.

Sports / Angry Dani Alves Lashes Out At Messi After Outburst At Copa America by damilogogle(m): 12:54pm On Jul 09, 2019
Brazil captain, Dani Alves, has criticised his former Barcelona team-mate, Lionel Messi, after the Argentina star alleged that the Copa America was corrupt following his side’s loss to the Selecao.

Messi hit out at CONMEBOL and the tournament as a whole following the semi-final defeat and once again after Argentina’s third-place clash with Chile, a game he was shown a straight red card.

He suggested the officials had been favouring the tournament hosts throughout the competition.
Alves, who captained Brazil to winning their first Copa in 12 years, put aside his friendship with Messi and called his action “disrespectful”.

“A friend is not always right just because he’s a friend. You can say it in the heat of the moment, but I still won’t agree.
“Firstly, he’s disrespecting an institution such as the Selecao, in my view. Secondly, he’s being disrespectful with several professionals who put a lot of things aside so they could be there fighting for a dream.
“I’m a friend who always tells the truth when it’s due, and I think he was wrong for saying these things,” Alves told SporTV’s ‘Bem Amigos’. “

TV/Movies / Kunle Afolayan ’ S Mokalik To Feature On Netflix by damilogogle(m): 2:29pm On Jul 03, 2019
Netflix, America streaming giant, has acquired award-winning director and producer Kunle Afolayan’s acclaimed movie ‘Mokalik.’
Afolayan disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday on the sideline of the French-Nigerian Cinema Days holding from July 2-3 at the Alliance Francaise, Ikoyi, Lagos.

“I wish to inform you that Netflix has acquired “Mokalik” and some other of my films,” He said.

However, Afolayan did not disclose the value paid for the acquisition, but added that the company has not announced when the films will be released on the platform.
The acquisition represents Netflix’s ongoing aggressive interest for Africa motion picture sector in recent times where there is still relatively untapped source of talents and contents.
The company had reportedly signalled that it planned to get serious about ordering/acquiring original series and films from the African continent, created by Africans.

At the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF 2018), the streamer acquired Nigerian drama “Lion heart,” the directorial debut of Nollywood veteran actress Genevieve Nnaji.
It was also picked as a Netflix Original movie and was released worldwide on January 4, 2019.
NAN reports that ‘Mokalik’ features singer Simisola Ogunleye, a.k.a Simi, in her debut acting role and Big Brother Naija ex-housemate, Tobi Bakre among other actors.

Other stars in the all-Yoruba cast movie include Femi Adebayo, Ayo Adesanya, Faithia Williams and Lateef Oladimeji.
Comic actors, including Wale Akorede (Okunu), Ayo Ogunshina (Papa Lolo) and Dayo Akinpelu (Alabi Yellow), also starred in the movie.

‘Mokalik’, written by Tunde Babalola and directed by Kunle Afolayan, is set in an automobile repair workshop (mechanic village).
The plot follows the story of an 11-year-old boy, Jaiye, from the middle-class suburbs, who decides to find his path in life as an apprentice at a mechanic workshop.
When his father arrives to take him home, Jaiye has to make up his mind if he wants to return to school or take on his apprenticeship full tim

“Visiting the mechanic workshop after about 15 years opened my eyes to a lot of things that I believe the world should know about our local auto car repairs industry,” Afolayan had said of the movie.

The President of the United States continued to vilify the USWNT captain's actions after she said she would not go "to the f*cking White House"
United States president Donald Trump has fired back in the row with USWNT star Megan Rapinoe over her refusal to attend the White House, saying that the midfielder should "win first before she talks".

The 33-year-old helped fire the defending champions into the World Cup quarter-finals on Monday after scoring two penalties in their 2-1 victory over Spain , to set up a last eight clash with hosts France in Paris.
The veteran winger made subsequent headlines this week after stating that she would refuse an official invitation to the President's residence were the USA to retain their title, stating: "I'm not going to the f*cking White House."

The Reign FC captain added that she did not expect the team to recieve such a honour as they did in 2015 during Barack Obama's administration, adding: "We're not going to be invited."
Trump previously criticised Rapinoe's refusal to sing the national anthem at the World Cup earlier this week, stating that he did not feel her actions were appropriate.

Now, he has responded on social media to her latest comments to announce that he will invite the USWNT to the Oval Office regardless of whether they triumph again in France, in a rambling missive that saw him also fire criticism at Rapinoe's comments and actions while characteristically heaping praise upon himself with several factually misleading statistics.

"Women’s soccer player, Megan Rapinoe, just stated that she is “not going to the F...ing White House if we win.”," the 73-year-old
wrote on Twitter .
"Other than the NBA, which now refuses to call owners, owners (please explain that I just got Criminal Justice Reform passed, black unemployment is at the lowest level in our country’s history, and the poverty index is also best number EVER), leagues and teams love coming to the White House.

"I am a big fan of the American Team, and Women’s Soccer, but Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job!
"We haven’t yet invited Megan or the team, but I am now inviting the TEAM, win or lose.
"Megan should never disrespect our country, the White House, or our flag, especially since so much has been done for her and the team.
"Be proud of the flag that you wear. The USA is doing GREAT!"

Inspired by former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick's protest, Rapinoe became the first white athlete to kneel during the USA national anthem in 2016, in solidarity to protest against discrimination.
While she is the only player at the World Cup who currently refuses to sing the national anthem, she is not the only one to have shot down accepting an invitation to the White House, with captain Alex Morgan also stating that she would decline such an offer .

Politics / No Governor Can Beat The Records I Set In IMO - Okorocha by damilogogle(m): 11:22am On May 16, 2019
The Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, on Wednesday disclosed that history will vindicate him despite been misunderstood and seen as the most controversial governor the state ever produced.

He made the disclosure during the commissioning of the Justice Chukwudifu Akunne Oputa High Court Complex in Owerri, the state capital.
He boasted of setting a standard, which no successor in the state can beat.

According to Okorocha:

“Let my works speak for me after leaving office. I am not in the business of wasting the tax payers’ money to commission projects because I believe that such funds should be channelled to other productive ventures.
“I have set a standard which any incoming governor would not beat.”

Speaking also, the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Paschal Nnadi, said the commissioning of the court complex would go a long way to reduce the current suffocating situation of insufficient court facilities.
Nnadi stated that for many years insufficient court facilities gave rise to the uncomfortable situation where two or more judges shared one court hall.

Celebrities / Jahbless Reacts On Arrest Of Naira Marley, Zlatan By EFCC, Addresses Ruggedman by damilogogle(m): 3:50pm On May 13, 2019
Nigerian Singer, Jahbless, who some time ago relocated to the United States, has shared his opinion on the recent arrest of popular musicians; Naira Marley and Zlatan by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,Commission, EFCC.

We recall that EFCC had on Friday explained why it arrested Naira Marley, real name Afeez Fashola and also confirmed the arrest of Omoniyi Temidayo Raphael aka Zlatan.
Reacting to their arrest, Jahbless in a post on his Instagram page, urged the government to persecute Marley and Zlatan if they are found guilty of being ‘Yahoo boys’

However, he noted that if both artists are found to be innocent, the case will be an issue to the rights of creative minds in Nigerians.
Making reference to American rappers; Jay-Z and Rick Ross, who sing about crime, Jabless stressed that if Marley and Zlatan are in prison for their lyrics, then songs like ‘Yahooze, Maga’ should be investigated.

He also lauded Ruggedman for speaking up against fraudsters in Nigeria, adding that Nigeria would have been a better place if everyone spoke up like Ruggedman.
He, however, noted that if Marley and others were arrested for their songs, then Ruggedman is not on a good course.

Jahbless on his Instagram page wrote: “Dear Ruggedman, first of all, I would like to thank you on the civil right services, if all artiste could speak up the same way you’ve been doing, Nigeria would be a better place.
“However, if this new acts are being arrested because of there creative process then you might have been paddling to a wrong direction.
“The last time I checked there is freedom of speech in this country, if an ignorant 22 years old tweeted a wrong statement …we can always put him on check, which you did regarding Naira Marley, but how about Zlatan, he Is picked up for a tweet or a song “am I a Yahoo boy” you think is worth the energy and resource for the agency to pick them up because of there creative process? then songs like Yahooze and Maga Don Pay and many more should be subjected to investigations.investigations.

“Even in the western world people make music about guns and drugs if the governments are quick to pick them up people like Rick Ross or JayZ should have a duplex in penitentiary, because they sing about crime doesnt make them criminal
“If Naira Marley and Zlatan are truly fraudsters, let the government takes its course and do there investigation, everyone charged with a penal offence has the right to be presumed innocent until proved guilty".

“We all need to thread carefully, and make sure this whole process is for the right course, if this guys end up being innocent then our creative rights is in trouble. Meanwhile “Am I a Yahoo boy” has 300k views in 24 hours not a bad publicity after all. Peace”

Politics / Why Zamfara Must Stop Fooling Us By Richard Murphy by damilogogle(m): 6:34pm On May 06, 2019
Richard Murphy, a security expert based in Calabar, Cross Rivers state capital city writes on the ongoing banditry in various mines sites in
Zamfara state .

According to Murphy, the Zamafar state government is focused on fooling Nigeria and her people rather than working towards finding a lasting solution to the criminal activities in the state.

We must all finally accept that the elites in Zamfara state are resolute on having the other citizens of their state for diner.
The red flag has been there all along but we collectively misread them, we rather saw the ‘poor people’ of Zamfara state as being their own enemies without realizing that they are victims of a greedy few that care nothing whether they live or die.

The orgy of violence that has gripped Zamfara state in recent months has had us all forgetting the other things that had gone wrong in that state. Incidentally, the killings in the state has been directly linked to mining activities taking place there.

Before the violence, the people were deprived to the point of mining gold with the same utensils they use for cooking at home. The result was an epidemic of lead poisoning that killed scores of people and maimed hundreds, mostly children.
With the lead poisoning, the poor citizens that engage in artisanal mining were solely blamed for engaging in an activity that claimed their lives and those of their children. It never occurred to anyone at that time to see them as victims of power brokers that sit at the top of the pyramid while deploying them as slaves.

It appears these political elites soon realized that the possibility and prospect of gold mining on a larger scale, an operation that they contrived to go on below the radar and away from the Federal Government oversight.

It is an arrangement that worked for them: there was no need to pay taxes to the state government that they control and no need to pay taxes to a federal government that was not in the loop.

The only obstacle then was the populace. The citizens of Zamfara state that were once used as brute labour for getting gold out of the ground suddenly became obstacles to the semi-mechanized mining for which they have imported foreign companies. They are obstacles first because they have to be sent away from the lucrative sites and secondly because they are ordinarily meant to be factors when considering compensation for indigenes of host communities.
It must be noted that illegal mining presents an opportunity that appears too juicy for these Zamfara politicians to ignore.

It appeared low risk compared to treasury looting at federal or state level, which would normally come with consequences like protracted trials for corruption and possibility of jail term for anyone unfortunate enough to have their trial concluded. Even when not convicted for corruption being linked to theft of public funds will one day come with stigma.

Illegally mining gold does not carry such risks for these people so they have all the incentive needed to dig for the precious metal and anyone in the way of the enterprise is not seen just as a stumbling block but as a threat that must be neutralized.

What Zamfara politicians came with will make Hitler and his pogrom gang feel like amateurs. Across political and generational divides - past and present, ruling and opposition politicians – came up with a relocation plan that showed humanity at its most brutal. They contracted killers that first pretended to be cattle rustlers that were killing farmers for livestock. They later mutated into ‘bandits’ that kill on compulsion.

The appellation of banditry is was a misnomer in the early days because these killers snuff life out entire villages without stealing anything of note. Bandits attack to dispossess people of their belongings and the amazement was that these killers were attacking and killing people in communities that appeared to have nothing of value to steal. Only later did it become apparent that what they were stealing was their victim’s land.
By unleashing terror against the citizens on such scale, the elites of Zamfara achieved their evil goals with such speed that the rest of us in Nigeria are only now beginning to appreciate what happened and is happening.

The artisanal miners, the ones that are not suicidal or possessing death wishes among them, have since vacated their mining sites or volunteer their services to the semi-mechanized operations owned directly by the politicians or owned by them through foreign looking proxies.

Communities that should have laid claim to the land where the mining operation is taking place have either fled the mindless violence unleashed against them or they have been wiped out.
The dark manner in which these politicians defiled their own state is rivalled only by the dubious way in which they have misled the entire country to misread the atrocities they have committed.

Being fully aware of the criminality they are engaged in, they have managed the telling of what is happening to an extent that Nigerians now believe that violence is ravaging Zamfara because President Muhammadu Buhari does not have a grip on the security situation in the country in general but Zamfara state in particular.

The reality however is that those who have the patience to review the situation will realize that the political class in Zamfara state are taking the entire country for a ride.
A fair appraisal of the situation will confirm that Mr President took the right steps. Ban the mining operations that were fueling the killings, deployed security and military to restore order and initiating engagement with stakeholders.

Had this been done when mining related violence first began to rear its ugly head in my Niger-Delta the cycle of violence that almost destroyed our homelands would have been avoided.
But even with the deployment of these well-intentioned measures, the politicians in Zamfara state found ways to truncate the good outcomes they were meant to achieve.

They mobilize traditional and religious leaders to join their ranks or to come out as being part of the axis of evil that does not want the state to know peace.
Their strategy was to demonize the military and security operations against the killers by falsely claiming that civilians were being harmed. They also instructed their contracted killers to export the violence into other states that are contiguous with Zamfara.
They have also modified the nature of violence to include kidnapping in the shopping list of how they planned to own their state.

Meanwhile, these Zamfara politicians, religious and traditional leaders, knowing the crime they were involved in, had banked on President Buhari not being re-elected. They has this hope not because the President was not worthy of re-election but because they had perfected means of rigging the votes.
So confident were they that they had prepared for the post-Buhari era. Their preferred candidate even threatened that the killings will increase if President Buhari is re-elected.

He got re-elected so the Zamfara ruling clan and their opposition leader have made good on this threat by scaling up the body counts from their assassin-contractors. We do not need a soothsayer to tell us that politics and not national interest is behind the crisis and harvest of death in Zamfara.
Even as we seek security and other solutions to end the killings in Zamfara, which are rapidly seeping into other states, it is crucial that Nigerians and indeed the entire world marshal the courage to hold the elites of Zamfara state to account.

They must be told in clear terms that they must stop trying to fool us with their false expression concerns about the situation when they are the ones that started it and have done even more to sustain the regime of deaths.
If they are now being caught in the crossfire of the war they started it is not because they are victims it is because they are being consumed by the fire they started or that the dogs they unleash on others no longer recognizes their owners.
