Car TalkRe: Just Bought My First Car Camry Pencil Light by danadam(m): 10:56pm On Sep 30, 2014
which of the oil is he goin to "top" weekly? if he adds water/coolant every week, then something is wrong with his cooling system. Congratulations on your new ride.
Car TalkRe: Is Golf4 Model1999 To2002 HELL Ride?i Need To Know! by danadam(m): 10:02pm On Sep 30, 2014
I love that car, I just don't understand why nigerians hate it. I believe it has to do with the nigerian attitude of abusing a car's electrical and mechanical system, German cars don't take that sh*t. i'm planning on selling my 94 civic and getting a mk 4. My only obstacle right now is the funds, i'm not sure my budget can get me a good one. If I can't get the mk 4, I will get the mk 3 (again.... I drove one for 2 yrs).
Car TalkRe: C320 Engine Cost by danadam(m): 6:21pm On Sep 28, 2014
I don't think there's a 2006 c320. 2006 and 2007 models are c280 and c350 which have the same engine with w204. I might be wrong though, the op should clarify by stating his VIN. we need to know if the engine is M112 or M272.

abatically: It is not possible. That road is not less than 200km. So let's say u are doing 200km/hr (which is very unlikely). Does that mean u can maintain 200km/hr for a whole hour? I'm not saying it's not possible to to 200km/hr on that road but its not possible to maintain it for even 20 mins. There are corners, vehicles in front of u that will make u step on ur brake, etc.
Following the now famous jere-bwari route should be less than 200 km (183 km by Google map). Once again, I don't have any proof cos I didn't reset and note down my odometer.

lomomike: Apart from that, the Big V8 turbo German muscle car was really into its own, and Mike was in the mood. I fell in love with that piece of car but I had to climb down from my high horse when my friend told me the Amount he bought that car and how much time and cash he spend to maintain it.
You remind of my first benz, a W210 E430. Men that V8 sweet die.

uboma: The point i am making is no one can make to Kaduna from Abuja in 1hour.
Ok Sir, Accepted. I will checking my timing when next i travel on that route.

Yes.
Car TalkRe: Please Help Me With Clarification Of Odometer by danadam(m): 12:49pm On Sep 20, 2014
abatically: Look at it one more time. Km is outside while miles is inside. Km is written in bold hence odometer is in km not miles.
You are right. it's in km not miles.
Car TalkRe: Abuja To Uyo By Road on 19 09 2014/ Uyo To Abuja By Road on 21-22 09 2014 by danadam(m): 10:52am On Sep 20, 2014
uboma: Why didnt you go through the new route so as to make it to Abuja in 1hour?
I passed through the new route but I really didn't take note of the particular time I left kaduna so I can't categorically state how many hours it took me to make the kaduna-Abuja trip. What I remembered vividly is praying subhi by 5:30 am, taking my bath, hitting the road around 5:55 am and by 9 am I was at the venue of the training at Abuja CBD.
Car TalkRe: Abuja To Uyo By Road on 19 09 2014/ Uyo To Abuja By Road on 21-22 09 2014 by danadam(m): 10:44am On Sep 20, 2014
abatically: U got there in 3 hours, uboma was saying it is impossible to travel that distance in 1hr. If truly the distance is 211km, for u to make the journey in 1 hour then u have to be doing 211km/hr for 1 hour. Of course we know that is not possible on any Nigerian road. Hardly possibly on any road in the world unless some isolated interstate roads where u hardly see any vehicles.
My bad... didn't really take note note of the total kms from kaduna to abuja through the jere-bwari route. I will measure the distance when next i'm passing through.
Car TalkRe: Abuja To Uyo By Road on 19 09 2014/ Uyo To Abuja By Road on 21-22 09 2014 by danadam(m): 7:29am On Sep 20, 2014
uboma: No way can anyone make to Kaduna from Abuja by road in just 1hour. Its not possible.
It's possible bro. there's a new road through jere-bwari, you can make it if you're fast enough and traffic isn't much on the highway. I had a training in abuja for Saturday morning 9 am, I left kano some few minutes to 6 am and I was at the venue by exactly 9 a.m. 3 hours kano to abuja and I even stopped for refreshments... so it's very possible.
Car TalkRe: Share Ur 1st Car Wahala With Us by danadam(m): 12:56pm On Sep 19, 2014
Lagusta: Let me share mine....

As i was driving along muritala mohammed way (agric area, ilorin) i noticed that the needle on my tachometer suddenly dropped from 2800 to zero in motion, the car slowed down and finally stalled.... I had the brains to quickly park it before coming to a halt on that kind of busy road...

Anyway, i opened the bonnet to figure out what was going on, started the car and noticed the starter revolved faster than usual... Chooii!!! I felt doomed!!?

Called a clown nearby, he just put a spanner here and there, told me to start it and he said "oga your engine don knock, go buy another one"... At first, i nearly fainted, but i later thought; there is water in the radiator, fan is still spinning, i serviced it 3wks ago, this engine cannot knock jare....

Finally called a genuine mecho, he took off a compartment at the side of the engine, and that was it... A snapped timing belt and a cracked water pump.... All caused by a faulty engine seat (my car is very old tho)

well, we changed all for about 5500... Started the car, and still driving it till today!!!
Wow... Timing belt and water pump for 5500. You car is quite economical (spare parts). What brand/model year is your car?

As a student, i don't think you should be bothered about fancy. Your main concern should be a car that will ease your transportation needs.

Thanks.... will surely do.
Car TalkRe: Best Benz To Buy by danadam(m): 10:55pm On Sep 16, 2014
Eyop: Oga danadam preach very well to the Mercedes haters. So many people are afraid of joining the family all because of the news they heard in the past how it consumes fuel and how pricey the parts are. Ok was it the CV boot that resulted to affecting the CV joint(shaft)? #130,000 is much oooo and is not even a brand new unit.
I first noticed that the boot was opened and the grease leaked out during a change of brake pads (N5,000), so the mecho added some grease and sealed it back. I started hearing that annoying clicking sound months later only for me to check and discover the boot opened with some elements of sand inside. I had to change sha, I hate that sound it makes. Infact, I don't wanna hear any abnormal sound from my ride. I also make sure I don't have any messages on my instrument cluster, it gives me a sense of joy when I see "no messages" on my display.

lomomike: Don't tell me again, I'm green with envysad
LOL.. Now the scary part. I had to change my CV joint (shaft) for N130, 000. The good thing is i've learnt to check my CV boot for any tear or opening on a monthly basis. don't wanna go through that wahala again. Overall, that car sweet die.
Car TalkRe: When Advanced Technology Goes Wrong by danadam(m): 5:28pm On Sep 16, 2014
TheGrandMaster: Your car was converted from a right hand to a left. Does it make sense to open a car from the passenger side if your remote control and/or central lock isnt working? Do some reesearch, i drive a 2008 C300 and the key hole is on the driver side door.
Mine is a 2005 c320 and the keyhole is on the driver's door. I've used it on some few occassions that my smartkey decides to mess up.
Car TalkRe: Best Benz To Buy by danadam(m): 4:54pm On Sep 16, 2014
lomomike: Chai, chief one service in 1 year or 20900km which one comes 1st? Chai... How then is this expensive compared to the toyota/lexus when I'm doing 3/6months service interval?
In my lexus I spend 9K for engine oil, 2k for filter, 1K for labour. And I use to mock those folks in German cars thinking their cars are oil consumers. Now I know I've been doing myself sad
In over 16 months of ownership, i changed the engine oil and oil filter twice. The first oil change was immediately after purchase, mobil1 was used. The second oil change was 10 months later (i actually drove close to 20,000km in 10 months) in which i switched to total 5w40. The difference in price is about a thousand naira.
engine oil... N8,000 (2) i.e. N16,000
oil filter N1,000
Labour N500
TOTAL.... N17,500

ovkie: Nice! Servicing once a year? Nice!! I was thinking every 3 months!! Maintenance is not expensive as people proclaim after all!!! Thank Eyop for your contribution. I sincerely appreciate your time
According to my manual, 13000 miles (20900km) or 12 months, whichever comes first.
Car TalkRe: Best Benz To Buy by danadam(m): 6:44pm On Sep 04, 2014
cne010: An average naija mechanic runs for safety when they see a v6 engine. The w203 rarely have engine problems once you use the right oils. On the plus side the C320 toks engine costs about 80 to 100k while the toks engine of the C230k is above 200k.

I have no clue how mix the Turbo cost, sometimes it's an easy fix you might just change the clutch in the Kompressor.
That's a huge plus. I would've guess a higher figure for the engine, I never cared to ask. Like you mentioned, Mercedes engines are quite strong so a meticulous user might not need any engine change during the course of ownership.
Car TalkRe: Best Benz To Buy by danadam(m): 5:14pm On Sep 04, 2014
ovkie: Thanks Cne10. I reside in Benin City, Edo State. I think I can easily find a good benz mechanics around. Benz are very common in the city and I think mechanics around are not too bad. Do you advise on the 2002 C320 compared to other models like C230 and co?
It depends on which of the engines you prefer. C320 and C240 are V6 engines in prefacelift models while C280 and C350 are the V6 engines in facelifted models (same engines with W204). The W203 was given a facelift from 2005 MY. The bumpers, Headlights, onboard computer display and CD system are different. you will only notice the difference when you take a critical look at both models. Mine is a 2005 MY C320 4MATIC. hope the little info helps. You can read through the benz thread for more info.

cne010: Drive on the bad road slowly. Sadly the ones we call good roads in Lagos are littered with pot holes. You see a fresh one daily like they are dug overnight.
I try as much as possible to avoid bad roads and I drive very carefully on the ones I can't avoid. I have a 94 civic for the dirty job (bad roads). That way I can curtail unnecessary expenses.
Car TalkRe: Mercedes Benz Thread by danadam(m): 10:14pm On Sep 02, 2014
Spare parts for W203 are kinda pricy. I replaced my CV joints for 130k (2005 MY 4MATIC) last year. The front strut (shocks) are weak and need to be replaced but i'm even scared of asking for the price of a new genuine set. A mechanic told me a pair of tokumbo is about 65k, i'm yet to confirm sha..

CityNG: These are my goto guys for european parts, I would buy this instead if it were for my car though sadly it's on back order.
Would've love to order some parts when i'm financially buoyant but they don't ship to nigeria. Do you know any other site that is reliable and ships to nigeria?
Car TalkRe: Mercedes Benz Thread by danadam(m): 10:14pm On Aug 18, 2014
Eyop: If you must go for the Kompressor, please ensure you inspect it thoroughly because the Kompressor(can be repaired when faulty) is a wear item and considering the age of the vehicle, you need to be sure that all is good and fine before you buy. Some 6 Cylinder naturally aspirated engine cannot meet up with the kompressor despite being 4 cylinder engine. Very economical machine i must tell you.
how can a novice verify that the kompressor is in order I.e. functional not faulty. I will really love to know.

Personally I don't really need the dipstick. the digital guage is okay for me, it work pretty well. as for the coolant, I use TOTAL coolant. you will get it at any of their major stations. congrats and welcome to the club.

Gee2728: @ danadam, that ur w203 does not look like over 200kmiles at all. nice work in keeping her clean at such a mileage. have heard of someone with over 400kmile w202. mine is just 186756mile
Just 186756 miles? That's over 300,000 kilometers. Well, we are all driving high mileage vehicles and with the right/proper maintenance, we can go much higher.
Car TalkRe: Mercedes Benz Thread by danadam(m): 5:08pm On Dec 07, 2013
@Eyop & Gee2728

I bought her in may 2013 with 250,000 km and I have added over 20,000 km to her. She gets a clean bath every 2 days. I intend to keep her for at least 5 yrs. When the pay is available, I will get a smaller ride (golf mk4) for my local/city runs while the W203 will be strictly for highway travels.
