Gee2728: not bad for a v6 engine but the compressor will still travel about 15km more when u stop to re-fill.Lemme drive like a great grandpa (i doubt i will have the patience), maybe I can achieve more kilometers. The traffic gridlock is also a pain in the a** but i'm gonna give a try. The Kompressor (W202) and her big bro (W203) after a clean bath.

W203 Fuel Consumption Statistics The ride is a 2005 C320 4matic. I've actually never bothered bout my fuel consumption but I decided to care a little when I read two benz brothers post on their W202 Kompressor fuel consumption. I filled up my tank, reset the car's trip meter/mpg and drove like a granpa...LOL My tank got empty today and I had to refill, not without taking pics of my statistics. I'm satisfied with the result. There is no much difference in fuel consumption between the W202 Kompressor 4 cylinder engine and the W203 V6 engine. The pics says it all. Pix 1... The full tank and trip meter reset to zero Pix 2... The total km achieved with the full tank Pix 3... Fuel consumption statistic Pix 4... Volume and price of fuel purchased to refill the tank.
@ danadam What car do you drive? Car-Doctor.
2005 C320 4matic |
Nop... don't feel lyk that. However i'm always conscious of the value of the car so I drive like a gentleman to avoid been hit/dented by some reckless and careless keke guys. Last weekend I was on kano-jos highway. For those familiar with that route, saminaka-jos is damn bad, too much potholes. I was amazed at the manner in which some drivers dive into this potholes nonchalantly. I try to dodge the ones I can or drive into them slowly to avoid wrecking my suspension. I reckon that probably their car spare parts are far cheaper compare to mine so the can afford to be that reckless. So sometimes I drive lyk the lady you mentioned. |
@Trac Now I get your message. Next time i'm gonna take both parts home, though rebuilding this exact CV axle might be unsuccessful here where i reside. I doubt if our mechos have the technical knowledge of rebuilding such a sensitive part. However, there's no harm in trying so I will find out more about it. The New part replaced is also OEM, used one. At least it far better compare to any china brand New part, quality wise. Thanks for your time, I believe we all appreciate your efforts on the Mercedes thread. |
It’s not a drive shaft. It’s a constant-velocity axle. Drive shafts acts as a propeller. Did you keep the original part? What attracted my interest was quality. This is the first MB of that age that I’m knowing where such axle failed. As previously stated, I’m not surprised. Thanks for the enlightenment. I kept the original part, the right side CV axle only. I felt there was no need keeping the left side CV axle which was faulty. You are not surprised! Sorry I don't get the message you're tryin to relay, Please kindy explain a little further. |
Hope you don't mind. I am just curious what required such a scale of repair. --- then again, I'm not surprised.
The drive shaft was making noise whenever the steering wheel was turned extensively. The noise was from the left side drive shaft. I discovered that the boot band (clip) was no longer holding the rubber boot (hose) in place. Sand, dust and water must have affected the components inside the rubber boot which resulted to the annoying clicking sound. I didn't want to have any broken drive shaft experience so I had to replaced immediately. Both sides drive shaft were replaced and the car now drives.... wow. |
Sorry have been busy, just seeing your post. wow ok...so you chose 135k instead of 110k why? Hope you ride is okay now? I needed the ride back in shape as fast as possible so I couldn't wait for the price confirmation. Anyway, I believe there's likely to be slight differences depending on the grade/quality of the shaft. The ride is now VERY OKAY. I will be goin to yola (over 600km from kano) soon and hopefully it's gonna be a fun drive to & fro. Thanks for the assistance, I appreciate. |
The pictures pix 1 shows the new shaft purchased in lagos at a price of 130k and transportation expenses 5k totaling a sum of 135k. pix 2.. The machanic trying to remove the old shaft pix 3.. The culprit. The old driver side (left) shaft that makes the clicking sound pix 4.. Checking out the alignment.
wow okay I will give you some one's number in Lagos but can't/don't want to post it here without his permission....but I'd send it to you if you can post your email/fone here I called Mr C****** in lagos and he gave me a price of 110k. However, I did make initial payment through another source and it was delivered on Wednesday. I drove straight to the workshop this morning and changed them. the ride now feels smoother and accelerate faster. I also checked the alignment to save my new tyres from any unnecessary wear. pics coming soon... |
wow... my predicament wit w203 has given birth to a new thread. before I purchased the w203, I was also considering the 2005 bmw 3 series and 2005 audi a4. I made a little research on the availability of spare parts in my locality (kano) and the benz seems to win in that regards. it's my only car so I can't afford to leave it at a mechanic garage while I scout for replacement parts. well, lemme leave for folks who have driven both the benz c class and bmw 3 series to share their experience. |
wow okay I will give you some one's number in Lagos but can't/don't want to post it here without his permission....but I'd send it to you if you can post your email/fone here 080******** Thanks alot |
My W203 dilemma I had noticed that my C320 4matic driving shaft makes that dreaded knocking sound whenever i make a u-turn. I checked it up and discovered the left side shaft hose opened. Took it to the workshop and fixed the hose back after applying some grease for lubrication. checked it a month later and I discovered the same thing. The knocking sound had also increased so decided to change the two front shaft, that's when I got the shock... The two front shaft is gonna cost me 130k and it has to be ordered for from lagos. searched for it in kano but didn't get to see any. 130k no be small money ooh. will be glad if anyone out here can help me confirm the price in his locality. the car is a 2005 C320 4matic. |
Gee2728: That's all I cld achieve with a full tank of fuel on city drive.... 306miles.i'm not sure I can achieve 306 miles wit my w203 but i'm gonna give a trial. truth is... I don't bother myself much bout mpg. I won't have bought a v6 benz if I was much concerned bout mpg. nevertheless, it will be nice to know if my ride is actually performing optimally... mpg wise. |
@au.hanson Amzdeal MS 509 OBD2 EOBD Code Scanner Reader Tool will do just fine. That's approximately N32, 000. I need one, will work towards aquiring it soon. Thanks. |
@au.hanson I currently drive a w203. which scanner would be most compatible for my ride? any idea bout price? I want to start getting some minor things done myself DIY. |
HILCROWN: NO DEAL, MEANWHILE I DONT CALL CLIENTS. AM PROUD TO SAY THIS ONCE WHAT I WANT TO OFFER IS EXCCELLENTThe instrument cluster, centre console and audio systems of the 2005 model is different. I can't guess based on pictures, the VIN number can help. One thing i'm sure of is... it's a 2001-2004 model. |
Gee2728: tommy na 6litrs no be 8.I believe it depends on the german engine. mine consumes 8 litres, a C320 V6 benz engine. |
The car in the picture is not a 2005 model. check your record and make the necessary correction. Good price though. |
smartchoice: I need to know more about the E430! If you don't mind...The E430 is a 270 hp V8 ride. mine was a 2000 (millennium model) purchased as naija used. Cost of maintenance is pretty okay. I changed the water pump for #15000 at apo mechanic village, used shocks/struts for #8000, repaired the sagging roof liner for #10000 etc. the fuel consumption is also quite okay for a V8. Can't remember the figures but I have em posted on siena's fuel consumption thread. A family friend crashed the car and I had to replace the front bumper for #70000. If I was rich enough, I would have gotten myself a tokumbo of same specification. what I loved most bout the ride is the engine. Mercedes didn't lie with the 270 hp figure. You need to have a feel of it on the highway, that machine is damn fast. Had to let it go wen I got tired of naija used Cars. My 1st car - naija used 1990 Toyota corolla 2nd - naija used 1996 golf MKIII 3rd - naija used 2000 E430 I needed a more compact car, not mo than 9 yrs old model, must be a German machine. The W203 won my heart so I got myself a sweet tokumbo facelift C320 4matic. |
You reside in KANO. Anyway am talking about 2003 and below, 9ja used. By the way how is your E430/420? Okay. you are right, saw a couple of them at #1.2 - 1. 4 million but I didn't want any naija used car. My E430 V8 is presently in possession of my Dad... the old man is really enjoying the car. |
W203 for #1.2 million is definately naija used. I reside in kano and did my survey back in april 2013 after finally deciding to retire my benz E 430 2000 model. I saw a very clean 2006 C 350 for #3.5 million and another relatively clean 2006 C 280 for #2.5 million. I finally went for a 2005 C 320 @ #2.4 million. I believe it kinda depends on where the car was sourced from, mileage etc. but a W203 for #1.2 million is definately questionable. |
I believe you enjoyed your trip. How's your benz doin? I can deduce it's a facelift W203. more pix. |
the map on android phone is very effective. I use a Samsung galaxy grand, the map guides me anytime i'm out of town. the voice command is also very helpful, no much need staring at the map. |
What model of Benz were you driving?[/quote 2005 C 320 4matic. |
Left Abuja this morning on my way to kano. I was driving steadily at 150 kmph (using the cruise control). A new (tokumbo) peugeot 307 overtook me wit ease (guess the driver was doin 160 kmph). I noticed the car has two occupants (chaps) smiling and looking at me from their side mirror. we were already approaching Kaduna so there was no need for a chase (don't like chase in traffic). I followed them behind, didn't let them outta my sight and patiently waited for my chance to teach em a lesson. we continued until we got to makarfi junction on zaria-kano highway (very smooth and reconstructed recently), I overtook the 307, (the driver was accelerating more) I zoomed passed them at 200 kmph and they never saw my brake light again. next time they won't try it wit a german machine. Abeg, don't try this on the highway.

earthrealm: was that a bmw or a benz...really interested in knowing such a 'smart car'A Benz, W203 aka C 320 4matic.
|
Changed engine oil and oil filter. Car was purchased two months ago and its her first service wit me. Got a message on the car's display indicating that 1.5 quart of engine oil should be added so I decided to do a complete oil change.
|
Gee2728: on my car manual it states 62liters but most times it takes abt 65 to 67 liters 2 fill up.I noticed the same thing with my W203. manual indicates 62.01 liters but I unusually have to take more than that at the gas station. |
I follow manufacturer's recommendation. 13000 miles or 1 yr whichever comes first and its strictly mobil 1. |
nisspart and siena... thanks for the correction. |
Car: Mercedes Benz Model: C 320 4matic Model year: 2005 Engine: V6 My average estimated fuel consumption on a trip from Abuja to Kano. that's approximately 34.7 km per litre (hope i'm right) which is good.
