Politics / Obansanjo's Letter: A Mirage Or A Reality? by danduke85: 2:44pm On Jul 22, 2019
The name Olusegun Mathew Okikiola Aremu Obasanjo is not only familiar to many Nigerians as former President but to many political analyst and observers as; an "Open Letter Writing Specialist".

His recent letter to President Muhammadu Buhari centered on internal security issues in Nigeria with four key areas to include; the ravaging activities of Fulani herdsmen, alleged planned reprisal against the Fulanis, counter revengeful reprisals on other ethnicities across the country; and violent uprising from a section of the country degenerating to the other ends.

The letter even though not different from the previous ones, it portrays the idle retired but not tired General as antagonistic who despite aerating his lamentations, indicated his lack of touch with current realities in the country and to say the least, promoting widespread primordial ethnic divide to provoke pogrom in Nigeria.

In his letter, Obasanjo claimed planned reprisal against the Fulanis by some ethnicities; the unanswered questions remain as who told him, who are those planning reprisal on the Fulanis, when and how? Is he postulating or privy to a planned widespread civic disturbance or even clandestinely, party to or the mastermind of such a plan.

In what appears derailment of intelligentsia and without any source of data, Obasanjo claimed there is 50% and 70% illiteracy and poverty levels, respectively in North-Eastern Nigeria. This according to him is the root course of Boko Haram insurgency.

One wonders if Obasanjo really worked for the Ph'd in Christian theology awarded to him by the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in December 2017. Because, he ought to have known (if his PhD is not politically awarded) that Boko-Haram is a faith-based driven threat founded by a heretical group of aggrieved youths in Maiduguri, Borno state. This is enough indication that the man is not well schooled or simply put "Certificated but Not Educated".

It is not far forgotten, his failure to secure for his cronies, the award of contract for Kashimbila hydropower project in 2016 leading to his first animosity against Buhari. The hostility became apparent in the midst of 2018 when Federal Government (FG) threatened to revoke all oil bloc licenses from allegedly, corrupt individuals believed to be connected to him and allocate same to State Governments.

To recap it all, let Obasanjo know that his time is off and let those close to him advert his attention to a wise saying by Maya Angelou "If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude".

Politics / How Atiku Is Being Served Abiola's Treatment By PDP Stalwarts by danduke85: 10:06am On May 06, 2019
"...Failure is an orphan"

The Presidential and National Assembly elections have come and gone, with President Muhammadu Buhari emerging victorious. Interestingly, the outcome of the elections which has been controverted by the PDP has been hailed by local and international observers. Consequently, world powers including China, UK, US, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Ghana among others have all congratulated Buhari.

Sadly, unlike the widely celebrated Jonathan who accepted defeat by congratulating Buhari in 2015, Atiku has vowed to seek redress in court, claiming that the exercise was rigged. More intriguing is the fact that despite appeal from traditional rulers (Sultan, Ooni of Ife, Emir of Kano etc), eminent lawyers including Falana and Agbakoba; religious clerics including Apostle Suleiman; Atiku has insisted on approaching the court.

It is clear that Atiku is being pushed to seek redress by some of his close associates. These associates may be doing so for many obvious reasons. Some of them include the Senate President, who doubled as his campaign Director General, former President Obasanjo, Fani-Kayode, Ayodele Fayose, Uche Secondus, Babangida Aliyu, Edwin Clark, Bode George and a host of others.

Glaringly, these political gladiators are pushing Atiku for personal reasons. For instance, while Obasanjo could be doing so in order to save face, having been demystified, Saraki is fighting the battle of his life to save his collapsed political dynasty having failed to even secure a return to the Senate. Secondus may be contemplating savoring the joy of leading the party to victory against the incumbent while others in the class of Fani-Kayode, Fayose, Aliyu and Lamido might be doing so in order to evade ongoing prosecution by the EFCC. There are also others who believed that Atiku gained serious financial backings from Dubai based Arab businessmen and thus if they could push him further they might get their own fair share of the 'Arab money.'

Worrisomely, Atiku seems not to interpret unfolding events correctly. In case he has forgotten, it was the same politicians that were very close to MKO Abiola, including his Vice President, Babagana Kingibe that betrayed him by taking up appointments with the Abacha Government, the same government that invalidated their election victory on June 12. According to Abacha's CSO, al-Mustapha, other Yoruba leaders including members of the famous NADECO who did not get appointment were settled handsomely with millions of US Dollars.

Already, Atiku's Campaign DG, Gbenga Daniel has abandoned him and the party. He betrayed the party by supporting the APC in Ogun state governorship election. The Igbos that massively supported him in the election are realigning in order to secure the position of the Senate President.

Buhari has promised an all-inclusive government and some of Atiku's men are already reaching out. While Buhari remains tight-fisted, his hatchet men will be generous to calm nerves and some of Atiku's men might smile to the bank or new offices, leaving Atiku alone to suffer Abiola's fate. His men are increasingly being alarmed by the massive acceptance that Buhari is gaining including from countries they thought were their friends. Atiku has to decide, to either tow the part of honour or the part of shame.

Reading the article again points me to the fact that, Atiku has never even been prepared for the positions he has held in time past. From being a one time vice-president, top Nigerian Custom employee, to holding various political positions in the country. He has repeatedly failed at various levels. What do the people of Adamawa really think about the Waziri? Nigeria is not a project hinged on trial and error. Let the real leaders of repute take the lead and effect the change we want to see in this country. I met someone reading about true leaders in Africa yesterday, the list baffled me as Nigerian were mentioned in the top 5 most influential leaders on the continent. I believe these leaders will have a chance to lead.

The real truth about the 2019 Election is that Buhari did not have an alternative. Atiku would have sold us out to his friends. What is important, is to get Nigerian on the right path again. The slogan may sound familiar, but we can surely do it as a country. We have to change our attitude towards change to get on the next level to effect it. The question is, what do you dream for Nigeria? what is your vision for the success story of Nigeria? Focus o! We have a bright future ahead.

Atiku, the PDP man, please "mind the gap". Protesting or not, Venezualan treatment or any other form of threat following the outcome of the election would not revert the victory of President Buhari. Nigerians have given him the mandate to lead for another four years. Therefore, forget all this growling like a wounded pig and focus on supporting Buhari in making Nigeria work as you promised.

Politics / Why Obasanjo Is Crying Again by danduke85: 7:18pm On Jan 24, 2019
Barely 26 days to the Presidential elections, the self-acclaimed purist and Nigeria's political kingmaker, Olusegun Obasanjo has spoken again, reiterating his call for Nigerians to vote out President Buhari.

His grouse: the administration has not lived up to expectation especially in the areas of security and the fight against corruption. He even attempted to say the administration is despotic, lacking democratic tenets. Obasanjo who recently endorsed Atiku also called on Nigerians to vote for Atiku.

Some of us that were actively involved in the truncation of his heinous third term agenda and remember his political maneuvering and desperation are bewildered that the man, lacking in morality could muster the courage to speak about governance as he represents everything reprehensible about governance.

I am more shocked because his latest attack is coming a few days after Atiku assured that he would make his friends richer because they are entitled to be wealthy. He further vowed to sell the NNPC, the lone national patrimony. Is Obasanjo now one of Atiku's friends? Is Obasanjo the head boy of Atiku's kingmakers (IBB, Gasau, Saraki, TY Danjuma, Abdulsalam, Kwankwaso, Sule Lamido, etc)? Has Atiku promised to return the retired Generals to power or allow them unfettered access to the treasury?

Today, Obasanjo, like one heavenly saint pontificates on the ills of other administrations. He has written to all Presidents except himself. He has accused successive Presidents of all the sins he committed and institutionalized while in office, yet failed to apologize to Nigerians for laying the foundation for the pathetic state Nigeria has found herself today.

Apart from jettisoning the rule of law by ignoring Court rulings including those of the Supreme Court, Obasanjo's era witnessed an unprecedented level of political assassinations and insecurity. In brazen disregard for the law, opposition elements were harassed and arrested by the Police. Police Chiefs that failed to do his biddings were sacked. The EFCC became government's 'whipman' and attack dog, unleashed on politicians that opposed his administration. His tenure was even more than that of Abacha.

In flagrant disregard for the Rule of Law, Obasanjo ordered the leveling of Odi and neighboring communities, an act that could have seen him being jailed by the ICC.

Apart from Odi, Obasanjo also ordered the killings of innocent Nigerians in Zaki-Biam, Benue State. His administration is still being dragged today for stealing $16billion meant for the power sector, a development that led to the near-collapse of the power sector with many power projects abandoned.

He illegally removed some State Governors including Ngige, Rasheed Ladoja, Fayose, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha. He Sacked National Assembly leadership at will, removed PDP National Chairmen whenever he felt they were not doing his biddings and had Maurice Iwu that was rigging elections for the PDP.

Obasanjo must not always select leaders for Nigerians. Nigerians have experienced, in the last 3 years, the administration of Buhari and they also know the track records of those jostling to replace him. They should be allowed to choose without interference.

Politics / OPINION: The Obasanjo Some Nigerians Do Not Know (10 Points) - Vincent Ikpu by danduke85: 3:45pm On Jan 22, 2019
In Nigeria today, no former leader has written letters to incumbent Presidents, like former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Sadly, these letters which should have been tailored towards proffering solutions to some of the existential problems in our polity that he created, they are hypocritical and self-serving. The letters, as trend analysis has shown, usually come in the second or third year of the administration, probably when the Government of the day fails to do his bidding.

But does the Ota farmer have the moral right to accuse successive Presidents of incompetence, insecurity, electoral fraud, corruption etc? Let me examine some of the things that transpired during his administration for younger Nigerians to know.

i. Obasanjo appointed Maurice Iwu the Chairman of INEC and practically supervised the rigging of the 2007 general elections for the PDP. The beneficiary, Musa Yar-Adua later admitted that the process that led to his election was flawed;

ii. He unleashed gunboat, attack helicopter and ruthless soldiers on Odi and Zaki-Biam communities, leading to the killings of about a thousand innocent Nigerians; a crime that would have seen him convicted by ICC;

iii. In blatant disregard to supreme court ruling (AND OTHER RULINGS) Obasanjo withheld Lagos statutory allocations for several years, because of his disdain for opposition;

iv. He arbitrary sacked sitting State Governors including Fayose, Ngige, Dariye, Alamieyeseigha because they oppose some of his policies;

v. His reign witnessed an unprecedented increase in political killings with prominent politicians including a sitting Attorney General, Bola Ige, Harry Marshal, Chief Dikibo being victims;

vi. EFCC became Government whip and hangman under his watch, with perceived political opponents being chased and illegally incarcerated;

vii. He plotted an illegal amendment of the country's constitution to enable him do a third term, a move that was ruthlessly resisted by even his Vice. No wonder he vowed never to forgive him until recently that Atiku has promised to return them to the treasury for the continuation of looting;

viii. He complains about nepotism, but under his watch, his daughter Iyabo served as a Commissioner of Health and subsequently Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly. At the Senate, Obasanjo lobbied for her to emerge as the Chairman Senate Committee on Health. She was later investigated by the EFCC over funds stolen from the Ministry;

ix. He is notorious for brazen corruption. The stealing of the $16bn funds for power remains fresh in our minds. This has left the power situation the way it is; it was during his tenure that Ghana-Must-Go (money in bags) became a norm in the National Assembly;

x. With stolen funds, the man who left prison before the 1999 elections with barely N2k, built his magnificent library, brought his farms back, made his Ota residence a befitting edifice, established Bells University, bought major shares in Transcorp after illegal privatization, bought shares in oil and telecom industry. Today he is about the richest Nigerian. Can he explain his wealth? Let Nigerians decide who is undemocratic.

Politics / Enough Is Enough: Kwarans Revolts Against The Saraki Empire By Rasheed Bamidele by danduke85: 1:42pm On Jan 09, 2019
By Rasheed Bamidele

There is a political movement currently sweeping across Kwara State. It is a movement that captures the struggle of a people, who for years have been subjugated by one family. “O TE GE!” loosely translates to “Enough is Enough’.

For years, the people of Kwara State have seen their collective patrimony turned into a personal empire by the Saraki’s. Starting with the patriarch of the family, Oloye Olusola Saraki, the family has smartly aligned with successive governments to ensure that Kwarans were ruled by either a member of the immediate family or their protégé. At one point, the two older children of Oloye Saraki occupied both the Governorship and Senate seat of the State among other position held by other members of the family.

That the end is in sight for this great injustice is evident. The recently held Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency by-election held across the four councils in Kwara State demonstrated this. The massive crowd that graced rallies of the opposition party throughout the campaign sent a clear message that the people have had enough of the old order.

This was not lost on the head of the Saraki empire and President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki. Having become so desperate and scared, Saraki personally pledged to pay off the debt owed to a certain category of the State workers in an attempt to buy the votes of a people long neglected. One wonders if the workers have become an extension of Saraki’s domestic staff that he would now want to pay their salary. But most importantly, it highlights the failure of the State governor, Abulfatah Ahmed, a man handpicked by Saraki despite his late fathers’ antagonism to the choice.

Indeed, this is the best time for Kwarans to liberate themselves from the shackles of oppression by this family. That Saraki himself has by his statement acknowledged the failure of his stooge is further reason why the people are crying ‘O te ge’.

Indeed enough is enough, and the people of Kwara cannot wait to have a leader chosen by them emerge in 2019. There is also the relief that their children can now boldly aspire to electable positions in the State without having to bow down to a self-made god of Kwara.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

WHY FORMER VP ATIKU ABUBAKAR WITH RESTRICTED GLOBAL ACCESS CANNOT LEADBy Heineken Agbamu

Nigeria, with its unique location, diversity and rich natural resources has over the decades attracted and maintained a lot of global ties, partnership and foreign relationship in trade, commerce and direct foreign investments. This has largely been credited to purposeful leadership by individuals with integrity and ingenious ability to formulate attractive foreign policies, backed by solid long term Bilateral Agreements and Relations between Nigeria and many countries of the world including the United States of American (USA).

The emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the presidential flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2019 elections has raised more concerns than excitements owing to his track record of corrupt practices and mismanagement of public funds.

These corrupt activities led to his being blacklisted by the USA. This is because a Senate Report declared him and his family as Foreign Politically Exposed Persons (PEP) and thus unfit to be allowed entry to US because of his involvement in persistent money laundering activity using his political office as the Vice President of Nigeria.

He cannot be a saviour to the sin he created. The released Senate report in 2010 further exposed violation of U.S. Laws by both former Vice President Atiku and his wife Jennifer Douglas who became the clearing agent for illegal money transfers running into millions of dollars. Sequel to this criminality, the US Department of Home Security directed all US diplomatic missions to ensure Atiku is not granted US visa again.

Combating corruption and restructuring Nigeria cannot be steered by a man whose hands are deeply rooted in the damage the country has suffered. As a corrupt man, political hawks and self-centered individuals would remain his closest friends to serve their pecuniary interest.

Being barred from entering the U.S. suggest that, as President, Nigeria would be unable to be fully represented at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly and this would greatly undermine the countries influential powers as the giant of Africa.

The Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Saturday confirmed their place in the Cameroun 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) winning the BAFANA BAFANA of South Africa to an away game which ended a 1-1 draw, leaving the Eagles with 9 points to top the Group E. The match win confirmed Eagles first AFCON ticket since 2013.

Amidst the unfavorable weather condition and erratic temperature, the combined team efforts of the Stand-in Captain, Ahmed Musa alongside Iwobi, Iheanacho and Goal Scorer, Samuel Kalu saw the Eagles through the qualifying round to the tournament in Cameroun in 2019.

Celebrating the victory, coach Gernot Rorh confirmed that it was not an easy game, bearing that his 3-5-2 formation payed off and also with the high altitude at the FNB stadium, Johannesburg, the eagles deserved the commendation from fans for their hard work. It was indeed a clash of the titans as both teams needed to put in their best to confirm a sure lead at the top of the group.

However, the loss by the Bafana Bafana to the Super Eagles and that of Seychelles to Libya, leaves the South African ticket the 2019 AFCON threatened by Libya. The decider match for the second group qualifier between Bafana Bafana and Libya has been scheduled for 23th March, 2019.

Politics / Atiku Abubakar And The Politics Of Four Is Greater Than Eight by danduke85: 7:32pm On Oct 27, 2018
By kolawole Faseun

As 2019 approaches, politicians have commenced their intrigues of lies and deceit all in an attempt to sway gullible voters. The latest being the claim by the PDP presidential aspirant , Atiku abubakar that he will spend only four years if voted into power.

In his thinking, by deceiving southerners into believing that he will spend only 4years , just as Buhari has left, we will be deceived into voting another fulani man for another eight years. As far as I am concerned, the issues at stake are these

1. Both Buhari and Atiku are descendants of the born to rule Fulani herdsmen that have thwarted Nigeria’s growth from
independence to date;

2. Herdsman Buhari has only four years left and power will move to the South; be it the south-west, south-south or the south-
east; I don’t care, let power move away from the herdsmen period.

3. Herdsman Atiku if elected has 8 years to remain in power; though he is promising to do only 4 years; we all know he is lying as
PDP men never surrender power voluntarily.

MY CONCLUSION;
Voting for Atiku, will translate to another eight years of Fulani rule. Nobody should be deceived into believing that Atiku will surrender power after four years. This is simply because Eight is indeed greater than four!!!!!!

I believe in Nigeria and not in wolves in sheep's clothing who discredit others to take their share off the ailing treasure of country. How can the country be ruled by a few who have failed at different opportunities given to them, now they want more power to commit more havoc. We need to wake up and smell the coffee, Nigeria is too old for this nonsense. We cannot have leaders who for their selfish reasons, choose to empower their immediate families at the expense of tax payers money. They travel to other countries and have learnt nothing off their trips usually sponsored by budgeted wealth of the country. What a shame. This is unacceptable and must stop forth with. We know better and can decide who leads this country. I still believe in Nigeria, anyway.

Have you done your research properly? Is it not in the prayer of parents that children should do better than them in life? Parents leave legacies and expect their children to build on and extend their legacies. I believe that should be your wish brother. Remember that in the game of power there is no room for sentiments. Bukola Saraki was well tutored by his father and all he read, he practicalised. He rose up when it mattered and fought for that political power from his father and got it. He did not wait for the crumbs. Kwara state is does not belong to the Sarakis alone and he understood it early. He said it to his father clearly that Kwara state is not their sole property. That even gave the likes of Lai Mohammed to opportunity to boast in Kwara today. The rest now is history cause just as his father was a godfather he now is a godfather. Look at this: which of his sibblings did their father hand over power to? Which of his sibblings rose up to fight for power? Which of them has power? NONE! Today he is the most powerful politician in Kwara state. It is a eye opener for people who want to wait for small tashere from their parents always. Ok now look again. Have you heard him and his sibblings fighting over their inheritance from their father. Life is about change, handing over the baton and moving on. Thanks.

Quit the sentiment and smell the coffee. Nigerians are quick to display emotions. SARAKI is selfish and wants more power and immunity. Give him power and you will not recover from it.
