This was a well deserved win, IMO ..not a fluke one....

Once again, we missed some good chances...the boys need to work on that..

It's hard to pick a MOTM...Aina, Bassey, Nwabili, Osimhen,Ekong, Onyeka, even Ajayi and Iwobi were all solid...

I can finally agree that we miss Victor Moses in the super eagles... Not the current one anyway, but the player he was... He was one of those guys guys, that on bis day, he can create something out of nothing....
Sports / Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2023, 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Danielnino00(m): 6:55pm On Jan 18
Whatever our game plan is, it certainly isn't working... The Ivorians have control of the midfield and it isn't helping matters..
Zaidu has been underwhelming and Osimhen messed up witht hat miss early on..
Nwabili, Lookman, Ekong, Aina and to some extent Iwobi have been the most active players so far..

The talk is about impact overall.

Pls drop Simon impact for us.

Explain it pls.

2018 world cup qualifiers, Simon was one of our best player..2019 AFCON when Rohr used Simon as a wingback,he shown..2021 AFCON Simon was also one of our best player albeit in the group stage alone...
Simon is an inconsistent player, but he has had far better performance for Nigeria than Zaha has had for Ivory Coast..
You can prove otherwise

daveP:

Zaha for club and country vs Simon Moses for club and country.

Abeg There is no argument here pls. You're doing like Simon do much for country. But can he replicate Zaha EPL form? No argument here.

I sha pray we see wingers that are good finishers and teamplayers. Or solely make things happen alll by themselves. I prefer the latter. Till then, this argument is no dey. Lol

Where did u see me mention Simon?

For what it's worth, Simon has more impact in the national team than Zaha has for Ivory Coast.. he isn't that much of an important player for them...

Starboytwo:
even komekn himself don't rate the Turkish league, so why even mentioning some Zaha playing there??

Same Zaha that cannot be a franchise player in Man utd, but can dribble everybody for palace. Till date, the community shield he won in Man utd is the only silverware of his "franchise career" nothing else won. He didnt even play upto 5 games for united. Compare with Simon Moses, Belgian champion with KAA Gent 14/15. Belgian Super cup 15/16. Slovak champion 13/14. Slovak Cup winner 13/14. French cup winner with Nantes, 21/22.

Zaha is overrated... He hasn't made any impact for Ivory Coast since he started playing for them.. thats why it was very easy for them to drop him for another player..
Truth is that countries like Ivory Coast,Senegal, Mali,Morocco, Guinea, Burkina Faso and the other francophone African countries hardly lack talented players due to their relationship with France that makes it easier for migrants from those countries to enter France..Unlike the UK with strict migrant policy...
Also, I say it without apology that France breeds better player than England...

komekn:

A team that can drop Zaha should not be dismissed.

Zaha has never been exceptional for Ivory coast, so they didn't mind dropping him... 33 games and 5 goals and no game changing or awe inspiring performance to make him invincible in the team...

Ivory Coast themselves have always been underachievers..this their current team is nowhere better than the golden generation of Drogba time...that generation still underachieved...

I knew the man couldn't resist the return of strikers in the squad.. lol..

Masai Ujiri traded for Jordan Nwora. Hopefully Jordan gets a bigger role with the raptors

It looks like the raptors are going to tank this season . They have traded Siakam and Anunoby, two of their best players... I expect Nwora to get more game time now ..

Things not looking good for Al-hassan, might undergo scan to ascertain the level of his injury. Osimhen also uncertain.

Alhassan already had a scan yesterday. The result weren't announced, but nothing concrete to suggest that the knock he suffered is serious..

Alhassan has been ruled out of Thursday game as a precautionary measure..

Peseiro will likely draft Aribo to replace him..

You dey mind am grin. Host team will come in over confident and then we will roast them with that.. That game will 2-1 in Favor of Nigeria.. But we go suffer
I don't think we will have it that tough against CIV... One thing that's sure about the super eagles is that regardless of our form, we dont lose disgracefully to opponents, no matter how strong the opponent is.. and to be honest, host nation or not, CIV haven't been that impressive in the past few years despite the many talent at their disposal..

Watching Nwabili yesterday almost made me swear for whoever made us put up with Uzoho for years.

Sey na composure, confident handling, dangerous long balls or anticipation? His shot stopping I'm sure will be above average. Could be maning the sticks for a while if he stays consistent.

I won't be too excited about Nwabili.. he was composed and confident yesterday, yes, but he was barely tested...we can't say for sure how good he is until he faces some real threat..CIV will definitely provide that

Aside midfield and defense, the wing is abother area that needs fresh additions..
Simon and Chukwueze are aa inconsistent as NEPA.... I was surprised Jpes didn't bring in Musa today...

This is one of those games where you can't blame the coach... We played well.. the team set up was alright. What we lacked was the finishing... Osimhen and Zaidu were the biggest culprit...

Can we beat CIV? I think we can... They aren't that special..

I hope Alhassan is okay... Man was immense today..

Yes I pray onyeka comes to the party. If we must pass from the back, then he has a lot of work to do today. Let him just keep it simple. His primary duty is just to screen the defence. Provide passing channels to other MF's and to beat the opponents press. He should stick to it. Abeg

Onyeka plays more like a box to box midfielder... I think Alhassan will be charged with the primary responsibility of playing DM .. he too has a lot of energy to bomb forward..

It's a good midfield set up overall . Plenty of energy there .

The lineup is okay enough..

But this Peseiro is a funny man sha.. he is literally doing what we have been clamouring for him to do ages ago.. trying another goalkeeper aside Uzoho... Inviting Alhassan and using a 3 man midfield more..

owngoalnigeria that just reported that Yusuf will start ahead of Iwobi

And onyemachi will be at LB
while Bassey will start at CB

And chukwueze isn't fit to start

I just saw the report.. I wont be surprised if its true. For some funny reasons, Iwobi doesn't get the trust of the managers during international tournaments. 2019 AFCON is the only one I remember him being a guaranteed starter. 2018 world cup, rohr was still using him as a winger.. 2021 AFCON, Ndid and Aribo were favoured in Eguavon 4-4-2

If Owngoal speculation is anything to go by, then our starting lineup today will be:

Uzoho

Osayi/Aina
Ekong
Ajayi
Bassey

Onyedika
Aribo
Iwobi

Chukwueze
Lookman
Osimhen
