dayokanu: Why didnt the Edolite, Bayelsans etc go and bring them and campaign for them, fund them and elect them as Governors of their statesLMAO!!!! I am tired of arguing. You have a legitimate point though. I don't think that non-Yorubas should impose a candidate on Lagosions. Such a thing would backfire. Something like this, if it ever happens, should happen organically. A successful non-indigenous candidate would need to prove him or herself. He or she would need to know the language, culture, history, and nuances of the people of Lagos. The person must have confirmed beyond all reasonable doubt their love for the people of Lagos and their desire realize the dream of Lagosions of making their city an international megacity. A few years ago, it seemed like Nigeria could only elect a WaZoeBia candidate for President but then came Goodluck Jonathan and now Nigerians believe that anyone can be elected President. All I am saying is that it would be inspiring if a non-indigene is elected governor of any state. It would be a giant step out our national integration and unity. Cheers!!! |
dayokanu: So why have they been denied the chance? Why did they vote Igbinedion and not Soyinka? Why did Deltans vote ibori, bayelsans vote Alams and Sylva instead of Adamu Muazu and Nuhu RibaduDid those people present themselves as candidates for governor in the states you mentioned? Did they run a well funded and managed campaign? |
dayokanu: ^^ Yes the people of lagos would vote for an incompetent Yoruba before any other.I know for a fact that the people of Edo state would vote for Wole Soyinka before voting for Lucky Igbinedion if given a chance. |
topazjosh: that question sound sooI was simply questioning the premise of his statement. I am not saying that Yorubas do not have competent people. I am sure that Oyo and Ogun state had better people than Alao Akala and Gbenga Daniels but the "cabal" did not choose them. I hate engaging in these type of tribal discussions. Even when one attempts to stay above the fray, things end up being perceived in an offensive way. All I am saying is that we should allow the best people in an area present themselves to the public to make their pick. In the 1950s Zik was elected from Lagos. Keep in mind that the people of Lagos voted for him even though they knew that he had a very realistic chance of becoming the Premier of the Western Region. All I am saying is that we must remember that our politics is very complex. While there may be many competent Yorubas in Yoruba land, the cabal may annoint an incompetent candidate. Do you think that the people of Lagos should vote for an incompetent Yoruba man or woman over a competent non-indigene settler? For example, if the political cabal in Lagos (currently controlled by ACN) picks an incompetent candidate, do you think that the the people of Lagos should vote for him over a non-indigene settler who has a proven track record of success? |
babapupa: Rubbish.....If there are so many skilled Yoruba people in Yoruba land, why did Alao Akala and Gbenga Daniels get elected? |
Sincere 9gerian you are a paid PDP agent. Why are you obsessed with Buhari? LEAVE BUHARI ALONE!!! |
babapupa: Rubbish.....Tribalist!!! |
PointB: Why is it annoying to use Lagos? Is Lagos not a microcosm of Nigeria, judging from its cosmopolitan nature?I have truly come to realize that in politics there are no permanent friends and enemies. I completely agree with PointB on this one. Lagos is a microcosm of Nigeria. If there is any state in Nigeria where a non-indigene can get elected, it would be Lagos. Lagos could set the pace for national integration. Nigeria needs to move away from State of origin and start focusing on state of residence. If a person has made Lagos his home, has children enrolled in Lagos schools, owns a business that contributes to the Lagos economy, and is an active member of the community, why shouldn't such a person be given a shot at rising through the ranks of the political system in Lagos? I guess, Lagosians would prefer an Alao Akala to replace Fashola than a Donald Duke to replace Fashola. I am from the South South and for the record, if Fashola met the residency requirement of my state, I wouldnt mind if he became governor of my state. We need to shine our eyes in Nigeria and stop being sentimental. We need good governance and we need it now. If a Hausa man or an Idoma man or an Igbo woman can complete Fashola's vision of making Lagos state a mega city then so be it. |
Are you talking about the Obasanjo whose FIRST daughter lost her senate seat in Ogun state? Is it that same Obasanjo? |
What is wrong with you people. I guess you would prefer it if Fashola left federal roads in Lagos to rot regardless of whether the Federal Government fixes them or not. That is what many governors do. If a federal road is bad they leave it alone. Some have even gone as far to create billboards on federal roads saying "This Road Belongs to the Federal Government." But Fashola decided to repair them and ask for a refund. What is wrong with that? |

Sealeddeal: lol...nothing for him. even if INEC rig election in his favour,he is going no where. The 2003 election cycle was the first cycle that I followed closely and Okorocha and Moghalu were two candidates in the Southeast that caught my attention during that election cycle. You seem pretty certain about what you just said. From a prior post, you said that you live in Nnewi and Moghalu comes from Nnewi. Your comment is surprising to me because if Moghalu has any base of support in Anambra state, it should be in Nnewi. Also, in 2003, the perception I got from some Anambra residents is that Moghalu probably came in second to Peter Obi in the election. Why you think that Moghalu stands no chance for Governor? Also do you think that he would stand a better chance running for a senate seat instead? |
What do Anambra residents think of George Moghalu? I know that he ran for governor against Peter Obi and Ngige in 2003. |
Smh. Let them fight their own Battles. These are the Same Nigerians who call us Akata, and Brag about selling us as Slaves, for mirrors and gun powder
Why are you on a Nigerian forum? Get out of here!!! |
Nigerians who voted for Goodluck Jonathan, I hope you are enjoying the Fresh Air that you voted for. |
GBAWE!!!! |
I have several ideas for 2015: - Fashola/Shekarau - Fashola/Ribadu - Fashola/Marwa - Buhari/Fashola - Buhari/Rochas |
Last year I opened a thread about Marwa. I said that CPC should focus on the governorship in Adamawa state because a person like Marwa being a governor could have given a boost to the party the same way Rochas gave APGA a boost. Unfortunately, CPC took their eyes off the ball and Marwa was decisively defeated. Right now CPC does not have any elected official that has a national profile. Yes they have an elected governor in Nasarawa state but the average Nigerian cannot tell you the name of the governor of Nasarawa state without googling it first. Marwa cannot run for President in 2015. His defeat in the governorship election would dog his campaign. |
trillville: The fact that both fashola and shekarau are Muslims makes the ticket a little hard to sell in some regions of the country. 2015 is too big an opportunity for acn, cpc and anpp to play with so hopefully they will present candidates that are truly electable in all parts of the country. In 1993, SDP ran MKO Abiola and Baba Gana Kingibe for President and VP and they were both Muslims but they won the South decisively. The point I am making is that Southerners are not afraid of voting for Muslims. Fashola and Shekarau are mainstream personalities that can win the votes of Christians. |
Assuming ACN, CPC, and ANPP merge, would you vote for a Fashola/Shekarau Presidential ticket in 2015? Fashola is a media darling and will easily win the southwest and perform well (though not necessarily win) in the middle belt. Shekarau, raised his profile when he exceeded very low expectations in the 2011 Presidential debate. He was articulate and appeared like the kind of Northerner that Southerners would not mind voting for. The two biggest comma issues with this ticket are the following: 1. Do Buhari and Tinubu want to run for President or VP? If Buhari runs he will definitely get between 9 and 12 million votes and thus hurt the chances of this ticket. If Tinubu has national political ambitions, he could potentially frustrate Fahsola. 2. Will Goodluck get the 98% and 97% of votes that he got in the Southsouth and Southeast? For this ticket to succeed, the candidates will need to make inroads into the Southsouth and Southeast. Endorsements from people like Okorocha will help. However, the candidates have to make inroads before people like Okorocha can put their credibility on the line. In my opinion, what this ticket would need is the full unequivocal endorsement of Buhari. That will give them 9 - 12 million votes to start with in the Core North. Fashola has the clout to deliver the Southwest and he has the goodwill to be competitive in the Middle Belt. The last piece of the puzzle will be the Southeast and the Southsouth. If Fashola gets more than 20% in those regions, he could be elected President. What do you think? |
When are Nigerian States going to start generating revenue internally? Most of them cannot even pay salaries without free allocation money from the Federal Government. |
He is not a Senator. He was a senate candidate. |
Botswana and Namibia are the prettiest. |
Gbawe: The mistake you make is to think some are concerned about leaving a legacy. If you go and make a man who was a credit card fraudster in the UK (Ibori) Governor of a Nigerian State, what legacy do you think such a chap will be concerned with?Gbawe, you just killed an ant with a sledge hammer. TRUTHTELA's argument was too weak and baseless. |
cogitoErgo: I like this idea of pastors establishing schools at least its a development compared to buying of jets! That is the million dollar question. |
To all the cynics who are saying that it is natural for babies to able to swim, please experiment with your baby. Put your baby inside a swimming pool without any flotation device and tell us if your child survives. |
IMHO any world trade center in Nigeria should be located in Lagos not Abuja. |
mekaboy: NIGERIAN GOVT, PLEASE STOP TELLING US YOUR PLANS, WE ARE TIRED OF HEARING THEM. NO MORE PLANS PLEASE.I agree with you completely. Fashola should not start this habit that GEJ and PDP are addicted to. We do not need to hear plans or promises. We want results. When Fashola said that the first phase of the Lagos light rail project would be completed by 2012, I was so happy and I was looking forward to it. But what has happened, the project is dragging at a very slow pace. |
pak: @DanJohn,Thank you very much for the compliment. I studied business administration and I currently work as a Finance Professional. |
Iolo: He's just trying to be smart. Buhari would have won if we had an electoral college in Nigeria.Iolo, Jonathan won the 2011 election with 59% of the vote. If we had an electoral college, his percent tally would have stayed the same.
|
Iolo: In Nigeria alll states have d exact same number of senators and reps. that's different from what the uS practices if am correct. California one has about 55 votes at the electoral college.Iolo, please look at the pictures that I posted. Your above statement is false. In Nigeria, each state has an equal number of senators but representation in the house of reps is based on population. For example, while Lagos and Bayelsa have 3 senators each, Lagos has 24 representatives in the house of reps while Bayelsa has only 5. |
that question sound soo
