Romance › Re: Most Embarrassing Moment Of Your Life by danjohn: 5:11pm On Nov 15, 2012
In college, I got drunk at a party and tried to hit on a cute petite chick. She wasn't having any of it and was pretty rude with the way she rejected my advancement. She said something very very rude and then I said "shut up you b*tch." The girl slapped my face and started yelling. People came to hold her. The party stopped and everybody started watching this girl insulting me at the top of her lungs. I was shocked. I just sat on my stool and was smiling. I was too drunk to win a shouting match and I couldn't engage in an unfair physical fight with a tiny woman. To cut the long story short, I was kicked out of the party. I later saw the girl on the bus one day and I apologized to her for my conduct.

I always carried myself in a respectable manner at school and I felt like this incident really damaged my reputation.

I think a better proposal would be to make ATMs free if you go to the ATM owned by your bank. If the ATM is not owned by your bank, you should pay a user fee. Banks are not charity organizations. Why should they have ATMs if cannot even make money from them?

Politics › Re: Presidency Bans Ministers From Phone Calls During Meetings With GEJ by danjohn: 4:35pm On Nov 14, 2012
I am not even a fan of GEJ and I think that this is very disrespectful. Cant these people put their phones on silent? GEJ is really timid. This is the type of thing that you nip in the bud. The first time a phone rings, you simply say "Minister Lagbaja, we are having a meeting, your call can wait. And that goes to all of you." After you do that once, everybody knows that taking calls during meetings is unacceptable. Shikena!!! This story makes the President look very weak.

Politics › Re: David Mark.. National Assembly Will Create More State, Anioma To Join Anambra by danjohn: 4:31pm On Nov 09, 2012
Most of the states in Nigeria are glorified local governments. The only legitimate argument for a new state in the SE, is that it will provide Igbos with more representation in the Senate. However, I have an alternate idea. Why don't we consolidate the states in each region? We can either make Nigeria have only 6 states or we can make each region have 2 or 3 states with every region having an equal number of states. Doing this will give us states that more viable economically and it will reduce the cost of government.

Right now most of the states in Nigeria are too dependent on the federal government. They cannot sustain themselves with internally generated tax revenue. Instead they come to Abuja every month to collect Niger Delta oil money. This needs to stop. There is nothing wrong with states sharing in the proceeds on the nation's oil revenue. However, there is a problem if that is the only way a state can sustain itself.

Politics › Re: Fashola: Stay In Your Village If You Cant Obey Our Traffic Law by danjohn:
Why are Nigerians so tribalistic? Where do people get all this hate from? I am a big Fashola fan but in this case his word choice was very condescending. A good politician should not talk like this. If Fashola wants to run for President, he will need the votes of the non-Lagosian "village" people that he is deriding. I can already picture a negative ad with Fashola making the comment and then the narrator asking "does Fashola believe Non-Yoruba's are village people?" the ad can also show a clip of a disgruntled Igbo Okada man whose bike was ceased by Fashola saying "Oga Fashola does not like us."

Fashola should careful. He should remember that Awolowo was a great administrator who was loved by his fellow Yorubas but he could not be elected President because Non-Yorubas did not like him. A word is enough for the wise.

Politics › Re: The Best Democratic President Nigeria Has Ever Had by danjohn: 3:26pm On Nov 02, 2012
1. Obasanjo: Despite all his shortcomings, he got sh.it done.

2. GEJ: Electoral reform may be Jonathan's lasting legacy. Despite all the disappointments of the Jonathan administration, he has begun the process of making Nigeria's elections more credible.

3. Yaradua: Although he was a sick man, he appeared to have a good heart.

4. Tafawa Balewa and Shehu Shagari are tied for fourth. Tafawa Balewa was Ahmadu Bello's stooge. So much so that Ahmadu Bello once referred to him as his lieutenant. The country fell apart under Tafawa Balewa, the 1964 elections were a complete disaster and the Western Region crisis that erupted created the environment conducive for the military coup that claimed Balewa's life. As for Shagari, he was too weak. He did not have the balls to bring the corrupt people in his administration to book.

5. Shonekan: I know that the thread is about democratic presidents and not civilian presidents, but I just couldn't resist the temptation. Shonekan is a disgrace to the great Egba people, a disgrace to his family, and above all a disgrace to himself. There was no need for an Interim National Government (ING). Abiola won the June 12 election fair and square and Shonekan should have joined the cause to give Abiola his mandate.

After reading the first two paragraphs, I started looking for "but" or "however." If the third paragraph did not include "but" or "however," I would have stopped reading. On a more serious note though, this is a very nuanced write up. It gives Asiwaju his due commendation and then goes on to provide some constructive feedback that Asiwaju needs to hear. The author of this article should be a politician. He will do very well as a legislator.
Politics › Re: Ironsi Walked Around With A Dead Lizard In His Hand, Why? by danjohn: 9:41pm On Nov 01, 2012
Wonders shall never end. Aguyi is a very common Igbo name. General Ironsi's supposed lizard story should have nothing to do with his last name being "Aguyi"-Ironsi. From what I know, General Ironsi was raised by his older sister's husband. Aguyi is his biological father's last name, while Ironsi is the older sister's husband's last name. Since he saw his sister's husband as his father, he combined the two names thus naming himself Aguyi-Ironsi.

Politics › Re: Why Do Nigerians View Hard Work As 'suffering'? by danjohn: 4:05pm On Oct 29, 2012
There is a shortage of artisans in Nigeria. Nigerians would rather take Jamb 9 times than learn a trade. I have seen so many Nigerians who graduated from university when they were 30, 31, and 32. After they are done with youth service, they find out that Nigeria is a country that openly discriminates against people based on age, and as a result, most entry level jobs would not even allow them to take an assessment test.

When my Dad was building his house, most of the artisans had more projects on their plate than they could handle. They would work on your site for 3 weeks and then leave for two weeks to work on other projects and then come back and work for 2 weeks and then leave for a week. Most of the time the site manager had to call them to beg them to work.

Brothers and sisters, THERE IS A SHORTAGE OF SKILLED ARTISANS IN NIGERIA!!!!. If you take Jamb 3 or 4 times and you do not pass, then think of a fall back plan. Learn how to do plumbing for construction sites, or roofing, or laying tiles, or doing wardrobes, or paving stones, or painting, or POP ceilings. The list goes on and on and on. These people make a lot of money. If you have an uncle who is a trader, go and do an apprenticeship with him. I hear that the usual arrangement is that after a couple of years the owner of the shop/business helps the apprentice establish his or her own business.

People need to shine their eyes. Nigerians need to stop chasing degrees that will not benefit their lives. There are many millionaires in Alaba market that can barely read or write. I know that people like to call them "money miss road," but these people enjoy the dignity of work and they are able to provide for their families. What use is a degree if you cannot use it to get a job that pays a living wage? I don talk my own be dat.

Shekarau: 8,941
Others: 37,229

bilms: who said Lagos state has 9million population? common.. stop this...the number of registered voters in Lagos before the 2011 election was 9million or 11million, i cant remember, and if 9 million or 11 million people could register to vote,Lagos would have around the 17million you said or more, due to the fact that we have more young people in the country..

I am not attacking Fashola, believe me, i am only not in support of most of his policies which is circled around inflicting more pains of the poor in the name of beautifying a state.
6,108,069 people in Lagos registered to vote in 2011.
